Nenê Bandalho

9/10

sexual frustration, killing, man hunt, media celebration (panis et circences)

This is what remember from this film. I saw it a long time ago. "Nene Bandalho" was made in 1971. Around that time there was a movement in the Brazilian cinema called "udigrudi" (underground). The "udigrudi" furthered still more the deconstruction of film traditional structures begun by the "Cinema Novo". The "udigrudi" privileged spontaneous filming and the story was more free-structured than that shown by traditional movies. A feeling of happiness and experimentation exuded from these films, even the sad ones. This film along with "O Bandido da Luz Vermelha" by Rogerio Sganzerla, "Matou a Família e Foi ao Cinema" by Julio Bressane, "Bang Bang" by Andrea Tonacci etc.. composes one of the pillars of the "udigrudi", but now it's forgotten and as far as I know you can't find them in VHS or DVD copies. Maybe it's lost. I don't know. Maybe some day a miracle will happen and someone releases it on DVD.
