Poor girl, rich folks

Iris Klewe lives in a forest cottage with her foster parents Taneli and Sere Puuska. Her mother is dead and her father is a violin player travelling around the world. The girl's uncle, bank manager Kaarlo Heinonen discovers she's got a fine singing voice so he invited her to Helsinki to go to school there. His wife and eldest children can't tolerate this poor girl in rags.Only the little girl and the cook like her.Soon Kaarlo has some financial problems and the inheritance of Iris is in danger.Edvin Laine, who belongs to the group of the finest directors ever lived in this country has done fine job with Pikku suorasuu (1962).The movie is based on the novel by Anni Swan.Nora Haque, who won the diploma of merit is truly wonderful as Iris. Her performance can make you laugh and it can make you cry.And she can really sing beautifully.Risto Mäkelä can also sing and he makes Taneli Puuska a very likable man.And Tyyne Haarla makes his wife a likable woman.Tarmo Manni plays the girl's father Henrik.Eeva-Liisa Peronkoski as Ulla Stjernfelt is one of the nicest persons from the rich folks. And I also liked her father, General Gustaf Stjernfelt, who's played by always great Helge Herala.Kyllikki Forssell plays his wife.Kauko Helovirta is fantastic as Kaarlo Heinonen.Mirjam Novero plays his wife Selma.Leila Väyrynen plays the eldest daughter Ester.Stig Fransman is Aksel and Aila Kaihlanen is the youngest child Sissi.Director's younger brother, Aarne Laine plays Varatuomari Vuori. At the concert you can see Tapani Perttu, Liisa-Maija Laaksonen, Maija-Liisa Peuhu and Ritva Oksanen. And the young Jyrki Nousiainen is there at the birthday party. This movie does a fine job portraying this young girl's life and the boundaries between the rich and the poor.
