Keanu Reeves
London, England – May 22: Keanu Reeves attends the world premiere of “Ballerina” at Cineworld Leicester Square on May 22, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by Tim P. Whitby/Getty Images for Lionsgate UK) From the mind-bending realities of Neo in The Matrix to the relentless resolve of John Wick, Keanu Reeves has an unparalleled talent for bringing iconic action heroes to life. While he’s starred in four mainline Wick films, get ready for a surprising fifth appearance from the legendary assassin – and it’s not in the announced John Wick 5! Keanu Reeves returned as John Wick in Ballerina, a spin-off in the John Wick universe. The story occurs between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, expanding the series’ lore. Reeves enjoyed the opportunity to wear the bulletproof suit and revisit his character. (Click on the media bar below to hear Keanu Reeves.) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content...

Why Netflix Canceled Michael Cera's Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
Image
We are Sex Bob-Omb and we are here to make you think about how silly it would be to read this without watching the entire season of "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" because there are heavy spoilers ahead and stuff!

There are too many live-action remakes of animated projects. More often than not, these remakes merely take away the uniqueness, the endless imagination and possibilities, and the exquisite visual styles of their source material and reduce them to bland, visually uninteresting live-action movies without personality. Even the best ones struggle to reach the heights of their animated counterparts.

Sure, their continued existence makes sense commercially, but creatively every studio in Hollywood is going about things all wrong here. Why turn great animated movies into dull live-action slop when you could just turn an already fantastic live-action project into an even better animated one? "The Animatrix" fulfilled the promise of the world...

‘Swordfish’ 4K Uhd Review (Arrow Video)
Image
Stars: Hugh Jackman, John Travolta, Halle Berry, Don Cheadle, Sam Shepard, Vinnie Jones, Drea de Matteo, Rudolf Martin, Zach Grenier, Camryn Grimes | Written by Skip Woods | Directed by Dominic Sena

Question… What do Hugh Jackman, John Travolta, Halle Berry and Don Cheadle have in common? No, we are not talking about how they have all been in comic book movies! They were actually all together in one film that has become a cult classic over the years.

In 2001, Dominic Sena directed an epic thriller entitled Swordfish. It is hard to believe, but this film is coming up on its Silver Anniversary. But before it gets to that anniversary, Arrow Video has decided to give Swordfish a just as epic 4K UltraHD release.

Former master hacker Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman) is on parole after getting caught infiltrating an FBI program. Even so much as glancing at a computer could send him straight back to prison,...

Ready to get locked and (re)loaded? At Tudum: A Global Fan Eventin 2023, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that he’ll “be back” as Luke Brunner for more laughs and shenanigans in FUBARSeason 2, which is streaming now, only on Netflix.

“Season 2 is bananas,” creator Nick Santora said when the series was initially renewed in 2023. “We’re coming up with some real fun surprises for Fubar fans in Season 2, for sure.”

“It is bigger, it is better,” Schwarzenegger tells Tudum — and you can see proof in the official trailer above. “There are more laughs. There is more of everything … including one more legend!”

He’s talking about action titan Carrie-Anne Moss, who’s joining the series to play a German spy named Greta Nelso, who also happens to be Luke’s ex.

“They are icons,” Santora says. “They know how to do action, be funny,...

Sinclair to add more premium shows to multicast networks
Image
(Clockwise from top left) The logos of Sinclair’s multicast networks Comet, Charge!, The Nest and Roar.

After two years of securing new channel positions on broadcast TV, refreshing schedules and revamping brand identities, Sinclair is ready to move into the next growth phase for its over-the-air multicast networks.

Later this year, the four networks — Comet, Charge, Roar (formerly Tbd) and The Nest — will increase the availability of premium TV series to drive further viewership growth.

Charge, which previously offered a schedule that consisted mainly of retro law dramas, will lean further into its offering of more-modern, premium police procedurals with the addition of “Criminal Minds” and “Homicide: Life on the Street.” The shows join “CSI: Miami,” “CSI: New York” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.”

Comet, the sci-fi and thriller multicast network, will add “Xena: Warrior Princess” and “The Outer Limits,” while continuing to offer hit TV series like “The X-Files” and “Grimm.

All Five John Wick Movies, Ranked from Worst to Best
Image
11 years ago, Keanu Reeves hadn’t had a hit movie in several years, Chad Stahelski was a stunt performer who had yet to direct a movie, and action cinema was in a bit of a rut. All that changed with the release of a little movie called “John Wick,” one that brought some much-needed spark to its genre.

Named after Reeves’ taciturn lead, the original 2014 “John Wick” was on paper a relatively straightforward revenge story, following a legendary hitman who reenters the criminal underworld to get revenge on the men who killed his dog (a storyline that provided a long-lasting icon for animal lovers everywhere). What made it stand out against a sea of similar films was the care with which Stahelski and writer Derek Kolstad fleshed out this world, placing Wick’s quest for vengeance in an over-the-top universe of cartoonish assassins who abide by their own rules and...

Jonah Hill Almost Starred In One Of The Best Crime Thrillers Of The 2010s
Image
It can be surreal to learn about the casting decisions that almost happened. "A Clockwork Orange" star Malcolm McDowell almost played Pennywise the dancing clown. Val Kilmer was almost Morpheus in "The Matrix." For every movie or TV show, there are a whole bunch of "almost" casting stories that would have completely changed the way things turned out. Usually, things seem to work out for the best, but there are always those circumstances where fans wonder what might have been. There's even one to ponder about actor Jonah Hill.

Brothers and directors Josh and Benny Safdie had a long road to making their 2019 thriller "Uncut Gems," which eventually starred Adam Sandler as Howard Ratner, a jeweler and gambling addict who gets in way over his head. It's a harrowing anxiety attack of a movie in the best possible way, and Sandler's performance is a career best, surpassing even his work...

Review: Alex Proyas’s ‘Dark City’ on Arrow Video Limited Edition 4K Uhd Blu-ray
Image
The urban hell hole in which Alex Proyas’s Dark City takes place is a passé science-fiction dystopia. As crafted by production designer Patrick Tatopoulos, the setting draws heavily from the sci-fi of the early 20th century. This is an analog world of clockwork gears, bulky gadgets, and wires that reveals a heavy debt to Fritz Lang that only deepens when taken in tandem with the noir costuming.

The film’s atmosphere suggests a stasis reinforced by the manner in which a group of pale beings called the Strangers can freeze and reverse time in order to perform experiments on a city’s denizens. Able to implant and rewrite memories at will, the Strangers give their subjects new identities every day, rebooting them in a world of endless night to see how humans respond to the stimuli of their pasts.

One resident of this grotesque zoo, though, proves resistant to these manipulations.

The Real Reason Glen Powell Rejected A Role In Jurassic World Rebirth
Image
Dinosaurs may have gone extinct more than 65 million years ago, but the "Jurassic Park" (or "Jurassic World") movies seemingly can't be killed. To date, across six films spanning more than three decades, the "Jurassic" franchise has made more than $6 billion at the box office. That legacy will continue this summer with "Jurassic World Rebirth," which promises a new start for the property, complete with an entirely new cast. And while that ensemble features some impressive names, one name that won't be on the call sheet is Glen Powell.

Powell has rocketed to superstardom in recent years thanks to his work in surprise hits like the rom-com "Anyone But You" and the blockbuster sequel "Top Gun: Maverick." That being the case, Universal Pictures and director Gareth Edwards approached him for a role in "Jurassic World Rebirth," but Powell declined the offer. So, why wouldn't a star on the rise want to...

‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Review: Live-Action Redo Is a Squandered Opportunity
Image
It doesn’t seem like 15 years since the original “How to Train Your Dragon” animated feature earned raves for its heart and remarkable visuals, a 99% Rotten Tomatoes rating, Oscar nominations and nearly $500 million at the box office. And that’s one of the problems with a live-action version coming out so soon – the third feature in the animated series was only six years ago. Comparisons are impossible to avoid, forcing us to wonder what is gained and what is lost in the move to live action. The answer, sadly, is the balance tips into the red.

The story, characters and plot movement are almost identical to the 2010 film: On the island of Berk, hardy Viking-like people engage in regular battles with dragons as they eke out their existence. Robust chieftain Stoick is a fearless fighter, but his teen son, Hiccup (Mason Thames) is a sensitive soul more interested in learning and inventing.

John Wick: How a movie that almost went direct-to-dvd became iconic
Image
One really has to hand it to Keanu Reeves. The guy has a knack for starring in zeitgeist-defining action films, with him leading Point Break, Speed and The Matrix. Yet, perhaps his most iconic character, John Wick, is the most unlikely success story of them all. It was seen as an upstart indie flick which came close to going direct-to-video, only for it to become one of the most successful action franchises of all time, and a property that’s unlikely to die anytime soon, even if its own hero’s survival is kind of up in the air right now post John Wick 4. With Keanu Reeves reprising the role in Ballerina, now’s a good time to look back at how this little action franchise that could came to be.

Flashback to the fall of 2014. Keanu Reeves, while already a legend, was struggling to reinvent himself as a now middle-aged star.

15 Best Movies Of The 1990s, Ranked
Image
The 1990s are having a moment, a quarter of a century (yikes!?) since we welcomed the new millennium. Maybe it's merely millennials sipping the sweet nectar of nostalgia, "kids these days" having an archaeological-like fascination with the past, or our collective desire to remember the last time the world wasn't constantly ending (except on the big screen). Whatever the reason, it's also worth noting the '90s were also a terrific time for movies.

It was the last decade before Hollywood completely sold its soul to serialized slop. Sure, the film industry has long fawned at the feet of franchises, but get this: in the '90s, only a handful of sequels led the end-of-year box office, while Best Picture-winners even topped the domestic box office twice. Beyond the box office, the decade saw the apex of the indie film movement, "grown up" movies still being made for theaters, and...

How Much Money Did Sean Connery Lose by Rejecting ‘Lord of the Rings’?
Image
Sean Connery may’ve been James Bond, but even 007 couldn’t dodge this Hollywood misfire. When Peter Jackson approached Connery to play Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the legendary actor turned it down, reportedly because he “didn’t understand the script.” That decision ended up costing him more than just a chance at cinematic immortality.

With the trilogy going on to become a global phenomenon, Connery walked away from a deal that could’ve earned him about $400+ million. Here’s a closer look at how one of cinema’s coolest icons passed on one of its biggest paydays.

James Bond Star's New Action Thriller With 88% Rt Audience Score Sets Digital Release Date
Image
The Amateur is out of theaters and heading to digital. The 2025 action thriller starring Rami Malek is set to arrive on VOD and digital platforms in the coming days.

Per When To Stream, The Amateur will premiere on VOD and digital platforms on June 10, in just four days. The movie comes two months after the spy thriller opened in theaters, where it has so far grossed just under $96 million worldwide. Malek, who is best known for his leading role as hacker Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot and as the James Bond villain Lyutsifer Safin in No Time to Die, headlines The Amateur as a deeply introverted CIA decoder who takes matters into his own hands when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack.

Critics weren't exactly hot on The Amateur, with the movie just barely qualifying as "fresh" on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. With 117 reviews counted,...

Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Joe Pantoliano, and Carrie-Anne Moss in Matrix (1999)
Death is not the end! From the new robot Walt Disney to Mountainhead, movies are fuelled by immortality
Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Joe Pantoliano, and Carrie-Anne Moss in Matrix (1999)
Transhumanism has long propelled films from Metropolis to The Matrix. But Jesse Armstrong’s billionaire satire isn’t sci-fi fantasy. Nor is the ‘robotic Grampa’ Disney’s granddaughter so despises

For years, the world’s most perfect urban myth was this: Walt Disney’s body was cryogenically frozen at the moment of death, waiting for technology to advance enough to bring him back to life. Started by a National Spotlite reporter who claimed to have sneaked into a hospital in 1967, only to be confronted by the sight of Disney suspended in a cryogenic cylinder, the myth prevailed because it was such a good fit.

Disney – and therefore Walt Disney himself – was the smiling face of rigidly controlled joy, radiating a message of mandatory fun that is magical when you are a child and increasingly sinister as you age. This policy (essentially “enjoy yourself or else”) suits the idea of cryogenic preservation.

Seth Rogen and Jason Segel First Bonded As Two Teens Watching ‘The Matrix’ While High
Image
Though they’re each big names in their own right these days, Jason Segel and Seth Rogen both got their start on the cult classic show Freaks and Geeks. It pains me that I might have to explain that, given how long it’s been since the show aired. So if you’re a young comedy fan who’s never seen it: I recommend fixing that immediately. Outside of being known for being really, really good, Freaks and Geeks was also known for the casting of, at the time, unknown actors who were actual teens. No 32-year old high school quarterbacks with clear five-o-clock shadows here.

Maybe because of these natural age similarities, the cast is also known for having become very close. After all, working on a smaller show when your colleagues aren’t already famous actors looking toward their next gig engenders more genuine interpersonal relationships.

Seth Rogen and Jason Segel Relive 27 Years of Friendship: Smoking Before ‘The Matrix,’ Peeing Next to Scorsese and Harrison Ford Watching Segel Naked
Image
Jason Segel and Seth Rogen, who both emerged from the Judd Apatow comic universe, are now two of the funniest multi-hyphenates in the industry. Segel, with Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, co-created “Shrinking,” a dramedy about an unconventional therapist, played by Segel, going through the stages of grief. Rogen, with his longtime writing partner, Evan Goldberg, co-created “The Studio,” and co-directs every episode. He stars as a newly appointed studio executive trying to keep his head above water.

Seth Rogen: The first time we met — 27 years ago — I was 16 or 17 when we shot the pilot of “Freaks and Geeks.” How old were you?

Jason Segel: I was 18 or 19. It’s crazy to think about that. In preparation for this, I was thinking about the first time we bonded. I have a very clear idea of the moment.

Rogen: What was it?

Segel: While we were shooting the pilot, “The Matrix” came out.

"It's Cool To Have A Shoutout From The Legend": Keanu Reeves Reacts To Endearing Support From Tom Cruise
Image
Tom Cruise recently gave a supportive shoutout to the upcoming John Wick film, From The World of John Wick: Ballerina, and that meant a lot to Keanu Reeves. Cruise and Reeves are both Hollywood legends in their own way, but when it comes to supporting the cinema experience and fresh original filmmaking, Cruise is in a league of his own. He's been campaigning for people to head back to theaters since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the industry hard in 2020, so it's no surprise that he's excited about some of the summer's biggest blockbusters.

During a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cruise mentioned the "fun" audiences can expect this summer, with the final Mission: Impossible film and Ryan Coogler's Sinners already in theaters, and went on to say, "You've got the John Wick series, with, you know, Keanu and Ana, they're going to do Ballerina..." When Entertainment Tonight later...

‘From the World of John Wick: Ballerina’ Review: Ana de Armas Fights ‘Like a Girl’ — That Is, Like Jane Wick — in an Entertaining Ultraviolent Spin-Off
Image
In “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina,” an unabashedly pulpy, ultraviolent, and entertaining spin-off of the “John Wick” franchise, Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), a ballerina who is being trained in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma, gets a piece of advice that sounds like it’s going to be iconic. Her trainer, Nogi (Sharon Duncan-Brewster), shoots her a gaze of fury and says, “Fight like a girl.” She means that men possess a brute strength that Eve can’t necessarily match; instead, she should evolve a combat style out of her feminine essence. That tends to be how a lot of female action fantasies have gone, stretching back to the “Batman” TV series, where Batman and Robin were all Pow! and Bam! while Yvonne De Carlo’s Batgirl employed elegant karate kicks. In movies from “La Femme Nikita” to “Wonder Woman,” “Fight like a girl” has not...

Swordfish: Does this “high tech” thriller hold up 24 years later?
Image
People may not appreciate now just how much of an impact The Matrix had on action films. It came out in the spring of 1999; by the summer of 2000, every movie was copying it. That’s why you had Jet Li doing wire-fu in Romeo Must Die, Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt packing two pistols (and wearing a black leather trench coat) to Limp Bizkit performing the Mission: Impossible Theme in M:i:2, and the gals of Charlie’s Angels doing bullet time stunts. It changed the genre for a while, but one of the movies that owes the most to The Matrix is a little-remembered would-be summer blockbuster called Swordfish.

Not coincidentally, it was produced by Joel Silver, the man who produced The Matrix. It would include A Lot of nods to that film, including a massive opening bullet time explosion, a techno soundtrack by Paul Oakenfold (who had several tracks in...

All movies in the John Wick Universe (including Ballerina), Ranked
Image
“John Wick” came out of nowhere to become the most influential action movie of the 2010s, changing Hollywood’s approach to stunt work. After audiences had grown tired of the relentless use of CGI within larger blockbusters, “John Wick” provided an opportunity for stunt performers to show the merits of practicality. Although he had faced a period of critical decline in the aftermath of “The Matrix” sequels, Keanu Reeves returned with a vengeance to deliver one of the defining performances of his career. The now-infamous line of “I’m thinking I’m back” feels like a not-so-subtle reference to his own trajectory as a movie star.

“John Wick” has spawned many imitators, as the notion of a ruthless, darkly comedic revenge thriller has taken hold of Hollywood; films such as “Nobody,” “Atomic Blonde,” “The Beekeeper,” and “Monkey Man” certainly wouldn’t have existed without the groundwork that “John Wick” established.

'The Amateur': Action Thriller With Rami Malek To Release on Digital This Month
Image
One of the year’s best action thrillers is all set to land on digital release later this month. Starring James Bond actor and Oscar-winner Rami Malek as the most unexpected action hero in years, The Amateur follows a CIA pencil pusher who transforms himself into a merciless vigilante when his wife is killed.

Directed by James Hawes and written by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli, The Amateur is based on the 1981 novel of the same name by Robert Littell and finds Rami Malek leading the way as a mild-mannered CIA cryptographer who gears up and wages a one-man war after his wife is murdered. Alongside Malek, The Amateur boasts an all-star cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan (Superman), Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg (Call Me by Your Name), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), Julianne Nicholson (August: Osage County), Adrian Martinez (Focus), Danny Sapani, and Laurence Fishburne.

The Real Reason Keanu Reeves' Constantine 2 Is Taking So Long
Image
Francis Lawrence's 2005 demonic thriller "Constantine" wasn't terribly well-reviewed when it first came out. Some critics liked the film's visuals, and many praised Peter Stormare's performance as Satan, but just as many critics (including Jack Matthews in the New York Daily News) lambasted the film for being a painfully traditional action/murder fantasy hooey. "Constantine" was also unremarkable at the box office, netting $200 million worldwide on a $100 million budget.

The film was based on the "Hellblazer" comics, published by DC's adult-oriented imprint Vertigo, and the comics' many fans eventually came to admire Lawrence's film adaptation. A cult grew. Back in 2022, Warner Bros. found that the original film's clout had grown to the point where a sequel could be officially announced.

"Constantine 2" has now been in pre-production for three years. /Film offered an update in September of 2023, and the film had been put on hold because of the writers' strike.

John Wick's Director Helped Create The Sleek Action Of An Adult Swim Series
Image
Shinichirō Watanabe's "Cowboy Bebop" warrants no introduction. A neo-noir space Western like no other, "Cowboy Bebop" is an operatic tale about fate, the inevitability of violence, and the sum of our choices. Everything Watanabe has made post-"Bebop" has contained bits and pieces of this futuristic saga, including his historical adventure anime "Samurai Champloo," which looks back at an anachronistic Edo-era Japan.

The groovy, jazzy aura of "Bebop" has always found a way to seep into Watanabe's brilliant oeuvre, but nothing has ever come remotely close to this elusive sentiment. So when Watanabe's currently-ongoing "Lazarus" first aired in April this year, "Bebop" lovers were enthused about this fresh, snazzy story set in the distant future (also featuring a group of misfits banding together to accomplish the impossible). While Adult Swim's "Lazarus" does revisit the anime auteur's most compelling impulses, it pales in comparison to the riveting stories Watanabe has penned all his life.

Uncanny Valley | Natasha Lyonne responds to backlash over her film which uses AI
Image
“I became some weird Darth Vader character,” says actor turned director Natasha Lyonne over the internet response to her forthcoming film, Uncanny Valley, partly made using ‘ethical’ AI.

In April, Poker Face and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne announced that she’s to direct and star in a sci-fi film called Uncanny Valley, co-written with fellow actor Brit Marling. The more controversial part of the announcement was that the project will in some way use generative AI alongside more typical filmmaking techniques.

The internet reaction to the news was, presumably, rather unfavourable, as Lyonne brought the online response up during an interview with Variety.

“It’s comedic that people misunderstand headlines so readily because of our bizarro culture of not having reading comprehension,” Lyonne said. “Suddenly I became some weird Darth Vader character or something. That’s crazy talk, but God bless!”

Uncanny Valley is said to be about a...

Tom Cruise Shows Love for Keanu Reeves' Action Movies: 'I Grew Up With Keanu'

Mission: Impossiblestar Tom Cruise opens up about being inspired by fellow Hollywood icon Keanu Reeves.

On Extra (via ScreenRant), Cruise took the time out of a red carpet appearance prior to the New York premiere of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning to sing the praises of his fellow silver screen action hero. "I grew up with Keanu," Cruise said. "You see Speed, you see The Matrix, and also what they did with the [John] Wick franchise, and looking at that you're saying, look at how they captured the tone from that and that ability and charisma… I know what it takes to do that stuff so I always call him. I'm like 'Hats off man, hats off,' and I dig those movies, I really love it."

Cruise has led the Mission: Impossible feature film franchise since the first film premiered back in 1996. The series stars Cruise as Ethan Hunt,...

Why Tony Stark’s Heroism In The MCU Was Fueled More By Ego Than Altruism—The Truth Behind Iron Man’s Legacy
Image
The Dark Side of Tony Stark’s MCU Legacy: Genius, Ego, and the Illusion of Heroism (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Tony Stark didn’t just build a suit of armor; he built a legacy. But the deeper you dig into it, the shinier that red-and-gold surface looked only because it was covering up a whole lot of ego. Stark’s journey across the MCU and comics was often framed as redemption. But beneath the flashy hero act and witty one-liners, his actions screamed one thing louder than anything else: “I know best”. His charm worked like a mask.

It bought him goodwill, but time and again, his arrogance left others to clean up the mess. In Christopher Cantwell and Cafu’s Iron Man series, the mask slipped hard. This wasn’t just classic Stark bravado, this was a man floating above New York City, literally and figuratively, declaring, “I don’t...

This Steven Spielberg Blockbuster Left Quentin Tarantino In Awe As He Crowned It As “The Greatest Movie Ever Made”
Image
Steven Spielberg’s Jaws Crowned “The Greatest Movie Ever Made” By Quentin Tarantino (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)

One of the most renowned and outspoken auteurs in the film industry is Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino, who is well-known for his stylized narrative, witty banter, and profound storytelling, has never hesitated to discuss the films that influenced him. But among the movies he admires, there’s one that he boldly calls “the greatest movie ever made.” That honor, according to the Pulp Fiction director, belongs to Steven Spielberg’s classic hit.

Quentin Tarantino Reveals The Name of The Greatest Movie Ever Made

As per Tarantino, Steven Spielberg’s iconic thriller, Jaws, is the greatest movie ever made. The shark movie that not only terrified beachgoers for generations but also rewrote the rules of Hollywood. Tarantino doesn’t just love it; he reveres it. Released in 1975, Jaws was based on the best-selling novel by Peter Benchley...

The Matrix: This Deleted Scene Could Have Explained Neo’s True Role but Was Never Released
Image
The Matrix’s Secret Scene Exposed A Truth The Wachowskis Didn’t Want You To Know About The One (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

The Matrix was lightning in a bottle. A perfect blend of cyberpunk cool, philosophical intrigue, and revolutionary filmmaking. But somewhere between that first trench coat flip and the CGI chaos of Revolutions, things got messy. Why? Because the so-called “master plan” was never as bulletproof as they sold it.

We’ve all heard it — interviews, DVD extras, press tours: The Matrix trilogy was always meant to be a complete story. Neo’s journey, the twist about The One, and the Machine war was all part of one big, glorious narrative. That’s the official pitch.

Except… it’s not the truth.

The reality? The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions reek of retroactive storytelling. And the proof isn’t some Reddit theory. It’s in two key deleted scenes...

The 89% Korean Movie That Inspired a Sandra Bullock Movie That Made Me Want Her to End Up With Keanu Reeves
Image
Speed (1994) will always be one of those movies that you will want to root for the main characters, despite their love story not being the center focus of the film. Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves’ chemistry was off the charts, and when they finally returned for an actual romance film a few years later, it was as if they were blessing the entertainment industry.

Lake House is a fantasy romance, directed by Alejandro Agresti. It was released in 2006, and while it may not have great reviews from critics, fans of the genre hold it near and dear. However, did you know that the movie was actually inspired by one released years ago in South Korea?

"I Grew Up With Keanu": Tom Cruise Praises Keanu Reeves & Reveals He Calls Him About Big Movies
Image
Tom Cruise heaps praise on Keanu Reeves, revealing that he calls the John Wick star to congratulate him when he makes a big movie. Cruise began his journey as Ethan Hunt way back in 1996, and by all accounts is ready to call it a day with this summer’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Cruise’s fellow action movie headliner Reeves, meanwhile, is taking a break from his own hit franchise John Wick, whose last installment seemed to finally kill the series' previously invincible assassin.

Cruise and Reeves are indeed connected by more than just their action hero status, as the former detailed at a recent red carpet appearance ahead of the New York premiere of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, taking a moment to praise Reeves, while revealing that he always calls the John Wick star to congratulate him on his successes (via Extra):

“I know what it takes”: Tom Cruise Reveals What He Truly Feels About Keanu Reeves After Watching John Wick
Image
For the last few weeks, Tom Cruise was busy with his Mission: Impossible 8 promotions. However, it almost felt like the actor wasn’t just promoting his film, but also some of the major upcoming films. He recently shared that he was excited to see Keanu Reeves return to the role of John Wick in Ballerina.

In a recent red carpet interview, Cruise had nothing but great things to say about the Matrix actor. Cruise revealed that he was a fan of many of the Keanu Reeves action films. Especially, the Top Gun actor loves the fact that Reeves, too, commits to the stunt work he does in his films.

Tom Cruise Praises Keanu Reeves: “Hats Off, Man — I Dig Those Movies”
Image
Tom Cruise recently shared his admiration for Keanu Reeves, and he didn’t hold back. In a chat that’s been making the rounds online, Cruise praised Reeves for his long and successful career, especially highlighting his action roles.

Cruise said he’s been a fan of Keanu for a long time and mentioned how much he enjoyed his work in Speed, The Matrix, and the John Wick movies. He talked about how much effort it takes to pull off action films at that level and gave Keanu full credit for making it look so smooth.

“I love his work. I grew up with Keanu. Speed … The Matrix … with the John Wick franchise … Look at how they captured the tone … that ability and charisma … I know what it takes to do that stuff … I always call him and I’m like, ‘hats off man’ … I dig those movies,” Cruise said.

‘Jason Goes to Hell’ & ‘Jason X’ 4K Review – Evil Gets an Upgrade in Flawed But Fascinating ‘Friday the 13th’ Sequels
Image
Horror fans can be a fickle bunch, especially when it comes to nostalgic franchises. We don’t want the same story regurgitated with new characters, but straying too far from the established formula risks losing what drew fans to the property in the first place.

After churning out eight Friday the 13th movies with little deviation over the course of nine years, Paramount sold the rights to Jason Voorhees to New Line Cinema. “The House that Freddy Built” teamed with original Friday the 13th director/producer Sean S. Cunningham to revive the slasher icon with 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday — which sidelines Jason, does not show Hell, and is not the final Friday.

The film kicks off with one of the franchise’s best prologues, condensing all the slasher tropes into a single sequence that subverts expectations by culminating in Jason being blown to smithereens by a Swat team.

‘The Last of Us’s Jeffrey Wright leads Emmy Guest Actor Drama odds as eligibility window closes
Image
Hot off of a Last of Us finale that suggests a bigger role next season, Jeffrey Wright is sitting pretty atop Gold Derby's ranking of likely Emmy nominees for Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

Wright, who previously won an Emmy for the HBO adaptation of Angels in America, plays Isaac, the former Fedra soldier in post-apocalypse Seattle who switches sides in explosive fashion. The character's showcase scene — perhaps unexpected on a show about fungi-fueled zombies — dealt with cookware and the relative conductivity of certain metals. (Iykyk)

A nom for Wright would mark his sixth shortlisting. He was most recently nominated for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance in 2022 for his role as the Watcher in Marvel's What If... He also has three previous nominations, alternating between Lead and Supporting, for Westworld.

Nipping at Wright's heels is The Pitt's Shawn Hatosy. The Animal Kingdom vet plays plays Dr. Abbott, whose rooftop scene with Dr.

Good Fortune Makes Keanu Reeves a Divine Disaster Manager With a Seth Rogen Problem
Image
Nobody will be shocked if Keanu Reeves announced that he was all set to be a part of an all-out action blockbuster movie. But the news that the John Wick star is returning to the big screen as a guardian angel is all set to attract a lot of eyes.

The news that Aziz Ansari would be making his directorial debut was out in the open by 2023. Seth and Keanu had joined his side by then. And it looks like they have quite the role to play in the comedy drama.

John Wick Star Keanu Reeves Is A Disillusioned Angel In First Trailer For Aziz Ansari's Good Fortune
Image
Though Keanu Reeves has tried his hand at more comedic and light-hearted fare over the years, the actor has established himself as a bona fide action star thanks to leading roles in the likes of The Matrix, Speed, and, of course, the John Wick franchise. So, his next project can definitely be viewed as an intriguing change of pace.

In Good Fortune, Reeves plays a well-intentioned but underqualified "budget guardian angel" named Gabriel, who asks his boss Martha (Sandra Oh) to give him more "meaningful duties" (we later learn that he's in charge of keeping people who text when they drive out of danger).

Martha tells him that in order to save a lost soul, he needs to find a lost soul, which is where Aziz Ansari's Arj comes in.

Arj does odd jobs for a wealthy socialite named Jeff (Seth Rogen), and Gabriel decides to attempt to convince...

We Can Hate Joss Whedon but a Key ‘Firefly’ Detail Makes Its Cancelation Even More Heartbreaking After 23 Years
Image
Firefly creator Joss Whedon may have fallen from grace after the serious accusations against him, but his creative genius in the Western space show won over many fans. While the ratings of the show during its run did not do justice to its quality, it only rose in popularity in the following 23 years. A key detail about the cast speaks volumes about Whedon’s work.

The stars of the show, Nathan Fillion, Morena Baccarin, Gina Torres, and Alan Tudyk, have all gone on to build great careers in successful sci-fi projects. It meant that the 2002 show could’ve gone places if Fox provided favorable conditions for its run. Sadly, the cult show didn’t get enough support from Fox from the get-go.

The Best American Martial Arts Movies
Image
It can’t be denied that as far as martial arts movies go, the best ones come from Asia, particularly Hong Kong during their action heyday, which was arguably the 70s, 80s and first half of the ’90s. It’s tough to compete with the likes of the Shaw Brothers and the drunken master known as Jackie Chan. That said, martial arts movies were also making a foothold in the States decades ago, thanks mainly to Bruce Lee-mania following the release of Enter the Dragon. Before that movie, very few actors in Hollywood seemed like they were credible martial artists, except maybe James Coburn, a student of Lee’s, who pulled off some pretty good-looking moves in the otherwise silly Our Man Flint movies. Steve McQueen also had training but didn’t use martial arts on screen. Up to then, though, the most notable uses of martial arts in movies usually revolved around Judo,...

The 15 Best Movie Villains Of All Time, Ranked
Image
A hero is cool and all, but a great villain that makes a movie even more special. If a rogue is blander than nonfat yogurt, forget about having a good time, because let's face it, it's all about the chaos -- and the more, the merrier, baby!

In cinema, we have been blessed by Hades with some of the greatest villains of all time. From Thanos snapping away half of the universe to Hannibal Lecter snacking on friends and foes, there's no shortage of rapscallions to see and relish on the big screen. The question is, how do you pick the best of the best here?

It's about looking at their legacy and all-round influence on the medium of film. Most importantly, how did they make the audience feel? Not every baddie needs to have the viewer trembling in their boots, but they should stir complex emotions in everyone. So,...

Vanilla Sky Ending Explained
Image
The 1990s was a time of optimism and opportunity, but Gen-Xers also had a lot on their minds. This was reflected in the cinema of the decade as we pondered our love lives, our approach to work, and the way we partied. Things got extra angsty around the turn of the century with concerns about the future and our relationship with technology that seemed like science fiction a decade or so earlier. Two movies bookending the end of the 20th century, in particular, brought all this together: "The Matrix" and "Vanilla Sky." While they look vastly different on the surface, both films asked the same question: Would you rather stay tucked inside a blissfully ignorant dream world or wake up and face real life head-on?

"Vanilla Sky" was Cameron Crowe's next film after "Almost Famous," and it feels very much a '90s movie despite its release date in...

I Can Categorically Prove Prime Tobey Maguire Spider-Man Was Way Stronger Than Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland Combined
Image
After years of witnessing online debates about who’s the better and strongest Spider-Man of all, I’m here to finally put the discussion to rest. You can love Andrew Garfield’s cool skater-boy vibes or Tom Holland’s tech-savvy charm all you want, but deep down, we all know who the real Goat is.

Yep, I’m talking about Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. The one who didn’t need fancy gadgets, backup from the Avengers, or AI in his suit to save the day. All he had and all he needed was his Spidey senses and pure grit. So let me give you 5 tiny but crucial details from just Spider-Man 2, to prove my point. And no, this isn’t nostalgia talking—this is cold, hard Spider-facts.

1. Precision web-slinging mid-fall

Rick And Morty Season 8 Episode 1 Recap, Ending Explained & Mid Credits Scene
Image
The Smith family is back with their multiverse-hopping shenanigans as Rick and Morty returns with its eighth season, and right off the bat, viewers have been warned to leave the Matrix in the season premiere itself. The first episode of the season, titled “Summer of All Fears,” is a funky cocktail that mixes alternate timeline zaniness with existential dread and uses it as an allusion to launch satirical jabs at governmental foreign policies. With the comedic flair and character writing remaining on par with some of the best moments the series had to offer in the past, the eighth season couldn’t have gotten off to a better start.
