- TriviaThis movie was the biggest Hungarian box-office hit in the 1980s. In 1981, it was also chosen as movie of the year. This is an especially notable achievement, as the jury of the Hungarian Film Week festival have previously dismissed animated works. Reportedly, a single critic convinced them to give the film a chance.
- GoofsAt the beginning of the movie father fox is about to hunt food while mother fox takes care of the children. During the conversation the amount of children resting by mother fox changes from five (Vuk and four siblings) to six (Vuk and five siblings).
- Quotes
Young Vuk: Am I stupid, Karak?
Karak, old fox: No you are not Vuk. You just don't know enough, yet.
- Alternate versionsThere are two English versions available. The first, harder to find version is a fairly faithful uncut dub of the original movie. More recent VHS releases sloppily cut the film by 12 minutes. Most notably, the dialog is toned down ("stupid" becomes "silly"), and all the death scenes removed.

Featured review
Lovely animated film, we loved it as children! It includes both some really sad moments (including the death of sympathetic characters - a topic rarely treated in children's films), but also some funny ones, like the hilarious scene where the two geese get drunk or the scenes that feature the two stupid dogs. It is a nice, moving, often funny, sometimes serious story both children and adults can well relate to. I would recommend it to anyone interested in "non-Disney" animated movies.
