Additionally, unfortunately, this movie may be challenging for sensitive viewers due to its portrayal of serious topics like drug use and AIDS/HIV. However, if one can approach the film with a degree of detachment from these elements, it offers a compelling emotional roller coaster.
In the grand scheme of things, this film serves as a reminder to appreciate the love and life we possess while they are within our grasp and to recognize that our existance may not be as challenging as we may sometimes percieve it to be.
This is another showcase of the truly talented actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt at a young age.
The extraordinary relationship between the two could've gone on forever.
The love in this film isn't the usual, but a strange mix of affection and pity. Still making a great Romeo&Julie -touch to it. Its like Holy Matrimony(1994) done much deeper.
There are flaws, of course. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been one of my favorite young actors, but I couldn't totally handle his acting in this film without drawing connections to the 3rd Rock´from the Sun. But somehow these flaws, like the old-fashioned dubbing in the end, just make the loneliness of the two greater.

- TriviaThe movie title comes from a Velvet Underground song on their 4th album "Loaded". Mary Woronov, who has a role in the film, was part of the Andy Warhol Factory scene which included The Velvet Underground and she toured with them as a part of the Exploding Plastic Inevitable multi-media event.

Jane: Tony, how'd you get it?
Tony: What? I don't know.
Jane: Well, you must know.
Tony: No.
Jane: Well, you never did drugs, right? Was it a blood transfusion? Did you ever street hustle?
Tony: No!
Jane: Look, it's nothing to be ashamed of.
Tony: Well, maybe not for you! You're not ashamed of nothing!
Jane: Is that what happened?
Tony: No! Just shut up about it!
Jane: Okay, okay. I'm sorry, okay? Look, I won't mention it again. Tony, I'm sorry.
Tony: My dad...
Jane: What?
Tony: My dad gave it to me.
Jane: Your dad?
Tony: Yeah. Gave it to me and he gave it to my mom. Get it now? My mom, she never drowned. She died from the same fucking thing I'm gonna die from.
