Everyone loves cheesy movies, right? And who doesn’t like that warm feeling you get in your stomach when you help out the unfortunate; especially at this time of the year? Well, last year Nerdcage Live (which comes to us from our very own writer/editor Jay Saint G) did a charity stream called Cheesy Movies For Charity where they watched various bad movies. Since they smashed their goal last year, they’re bringing it back for another one. We here at JoBlo are all about giving back, so we wanted to make sure to highlight a cause we care about this Holiday Season.

Some movies are artistic masterpieces, while others are complete wastes of time. This is true across all genres, with just as many bad films as good. However, just because a film may not be successful in the way its filmmakers intended does not mean it was a total failure.

Sometimes, a movie is so bad that it becomes unintentionally funny. These films tend to gain a cult following and become significantly better when watched with the mindset that the movie is actually a comedy instead of whatever the filmmakers originally envisioned it to be.
Updated on May 24, 2023 by Angelo Delos Trinos: As long as movies are one of (if not) the most popular form of entertainment in the world, there will always be bad films. This isn't a slight against the medium, since even the worst movies can be the most unexpected sources of laughs and joy.

I love “so bad, they’re good” movies. From canonical classics like Plan 9 From Outer Space and The Room to deeply flawed gems like Miami Connection and Samurai Cop, the best “so bad, they’re good” movies are more than simple guilty pleasures. As that designation suggests, they’re movies that make it genuinely hard to answer the seemingly simple question “Is it good?”
When it comes to gaming, though, it’s always been tougher to find proper “so bad, they’re good” titles. Games like Deadly Premonition, Metal Wolf Chaos, and Harvest all arguably belong in that category, but most bad games are just fundamentally unenjoyable experiences that are fun to mock. Games that fall so far into “bad” that they somehow end up landing closer to “good” are rare.
That’s what makes Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin so special. In some ways, it’s a legitimately good game.

There are relatively few famous unfinished films, ranging from von Sternberg’s “I, Claudius” to Jerry Lewis’ “The Day the Clown Cried” to various Orson Welles joints that continue to be patched together by former collaborators long after his death. But most such projects, usually abandoned due to financial and/or legal woes, languish in an obscurity compounded by the fact no one cries for the resuscitation of something they don’t know exists.
But somebody did notice the plight of “New York Ninja,” , a moderately successful figure in Taiwanese action cinema. An already marginal, guerrilla-shot endeavor whose plug got pulled when the planned distributor went under, it has now been meticulously if none-too-seriously reconstructed by Vinegar Syndrome’s Kurtis M. Originally filmed in 1984, John Liu’s “New York Ninja” was left unfinished as the martial arts standout lacked the resources to have the film completed, and shortly after decided to retire from show business all together. Cut to the current year, where Vinegar Syndrome was able to get a copy of the unfinished negatives and soon realized that the film was a hidden gem ripe for re release to the modern crowd of cinephiles who embrace the absurdity of 80s over-the-top schlock. In order to remaster the film required all new audio and soundtrack, and to best capture the aesthetic of the period, Vinegar Syndrome relied on the talents of cult icons like Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Linnea Quigley, Cynthia Rothrock, Ginger Lynn Allen and Michael Berryman, along with music by Voyag3r to breathe new life into the long-lost film. The result, a perfect midnight film that has the...

So this is technically a really late review for the Secret Screening of last year’s New York Asian Film Festival Winter Edition but it took a long time to get this out! I’ve never been to the secret screenings before but was very, very happy to experience The Killing of Satan, a filippino film from that 80’s that’s got a hilariously bad dub, fun practical special effects, and then some questionably hilarious gore and editing. How do we end this scene? How about just cut to the next one! If you’re a fan of films like The Room or my personal favorite, Samurai Cop, then The Killing of Satan should not be missed. For the video review, I was influenced by the DVD release of...

Not only do we get to see the full list of Dlc characters for Tekken 7's second season pass, but we also have footage of Negan in action!
Back in August, Bandai-Namco announced the second season of Dlc for Tekken 7. Not only did it show off series mainstays Anna Williams and Lei Wulong, but it made it known that the final spot would go to Negan from The Walking Dead. In this game alone, he would join Street Fighter’s Akuma, Fatal Fury’s Geese Howard, and Final Fantasy Xv’s Noctis Lucis Caelum as guest characters.
We still didn’t know about the other three names in the second season of Dlc. There was also question about what Negan would even look like in the Tekken engine. Now we have our answers.
The next two names have been released and are now available to download. First up is Craig Marduk.

All right class, take your seats. It's time for roll call: Bruce Campbell? Tom Atkins? Laurene Landon? Richard Roundtree? Robert Z'Dar? Robert Z'Dar? Unfortunately, Robert is no longer with us, however, he and his contributions to cinema won't be forgotten. His film career spanned decades, mostly within the horror and action genres from the mid-’80s to as current as 2014. His most notable roles being Samurai Cop and of course Maniac Cop and its subsequent sequels.
Interesting how life takes you down a path that you don’t even see coming. Back in 2015 while at a friend's movie night, we were watching Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance and after the credits rolled, Maniac Cop popped up in the "suggestions" section. We knew that Robert was in Samurai Cop and we enjoyed his presence and personality there, so it didn’t take much convincing to give it a chance. Not to mention,...

Action movie vet Mel Novak (Samurai Cop 2, An Eye For an Eye) has completed work on his latest film, the supernatural thriller When It Rings.
For the first time since the death of his sister, Zach (Martin) returns to his childhood home to get it ready for sale. While there, he uncovers an old toy phone he once used to “talk” to his dead sister. Years of counseling convinced him it was all in his head until an unexpected call comes through the plastic phone, setting off a series of terrifying events, and making him question what, and who, is real.
Novak, whose many credits also include Game of Death, Holy Terror and the upcoming Steve McQueen: American Icon, joins Golden Globe Winner Sally Kirkland and newcomer Gonzalo Martin in the film – which is directed by Ty Haisten and David Rivers – whose short film “Chatter,” inspired this movie.

Welcome to another edition of Over/Under Movies, the podcast in which we choose one overrated film and one underrated film — similar in tone, genre, style, or however we may see fit — and we discuss them.
On this episode, my co-host Oktay Ege Kozak has chosen two movies as a means to launch into a larger discussion about what goes into making a great “so-bad-it’s-good” movie. We start with “Sharknado,” the first chapter in the successful schlock series that started on the SyFy Channel in 2013 (a fifth one is arriving this summer, in case there was any confusion how popular these movies seem to be).

You get the brand-new exorcism movie Holy Terror – from writer/director Rich Mallery (Sociopathia) and executive-producer Gregory Hatanaka (who helmed Samurai Cop 2 from a script co-written by Mallery).

But instead of their child, the three accidentally invite a vengeful demon to cross over. Samurai Cop is one of the premiere bad movies, up there with The Room, Birdemic, and Fateful Findings. It's nonsensical (what was up with that nurse scene?), ridiculous (why call your movie Samurai Cop when the cop barely does samurai things?), and shoddy (notice how the main character's hair goes from real to a wig in-between scenes). It's abysmal, but still fun to watch. It's why... Read More...

An introductory paragraph for director-writer-star-producer Tommy Wiseau seems redundant, pointless. He is a towering figure in the canon of So-Bad-It’s-Good cinema with his smash cult hit, The Room. Behind the scenes stories of his antics are widely spread — in fact, they’re the central focus of the James Franco’s latest directorial feature, The Masterpiece. Since The Room, Wiseau has since worked in various forms — on a short-lived sitcom of his own creation called The Neighbors and as a villain in Samurai Cop 2, all the while selling his brand-specific underwear. No, I’m serious.
So now, after a 15-year gap, the cult classic icon has reunited with Room star Greg Sestero — who penned the book The Disaster Artist, which Franco’s film is based on — for a new feature, the title of which is, frankly, ingenious. Best F(r)iends, which Wiseau himself promises will “make you find paradise” after viewing,...

This past Thursday I went with my columnist of choice, Molly, to take in all that Captain America: Civil War had to offer. There were thrills, chills, and carefully crafted and choreographed spills. Molly and I also went and saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice the day they came out. Well, technically those were all the day before they came out. The official release dates for all those movies was the Friday of the week. So how come they were in theaters the day before?
Because we don’t have midnight movie premieres anymore.
Personally, I think that sucks. For years, going to a midnight release was exciting for me. Sure, it often led to a miserable Friday at work, but it was worth it. Waiting on a line with lots of fans, the chatting with strangers about the shared love of Star Wars,...

Dolemite is a flick stacked to the rafters with “shouldn’t”s. A man of Rudy Ray Moore’s build shouldn’t be able to pull down the insane amounts of trim he does. A man that knows so very precious little about martial arts (R.R. Moore again) shouldn’t be attempting those high kicking moves. These people that are about as far away from being actual actors (with a few exceptions) as my house is from Venus shouldn’t be reading reams of dialogue. Amir Shervan's Samurai Cop (1991) was a miracle of modern megalomania.Shervan's film, the tale of a samurai trained renegade La cop taking down the yakuza in the USA, is the rarest of beasts. A cult film that earned its cult through the blood, sweat, and tears of a cast and crew that appear to have been completely convinced that they were making a good film. These kid of films of course make for the best kinds of cults, those that can appreciate the blind sincerity that can only come from a full heart and a kind of blind ambition to make something great. The Room had it, Birdemic had it, Miami Connection had it, and Samurai Cop, in spite of its completely ridiculous premise, definitely...

In Search of the Ultra-Sex
Written & Directed by Nicolas Charlet & Bruno Lavaine
France, 2015
In Search of the Ultra-Sex is a dream-come-true for the 14 year-old boy inside all of us. With footage lifted directly from vintage X-rated films and then over-dubbed with outrageous dialogue, directors Nicolas Charlet and Bruno Lavaine have created a pornographic Mystery Science Theater 3000. Hilarious, raunchy, and extremely hairy, In Search of the Ultra-Sex is the perfect midnight aphrodisiac.
A ragtag group of space cowboys, led by Captain Cock and his crew from the Foreskin Five battle cruiser, must retrieve the stolen ‘Ultra-Sex;’ a mysterious force that regulates fornication. Without the Ultra-Sex, the Earth is consumed by a calamitous orgy of sex and questionable fashion choices. Battles will be waged and panties will be lost as Captain Cock plunges into the impenetrable void of space to reclaim the Ultra-Sex.
At an economical 60 minutes, this pornographic space opera never overstays its welcome.

Special effects have come a long way in a very short amount of time, and that becomes especially obvious after taking a look at the two videos below. The first is a supercut of the worst special effects of all-time, highlighting scenes from Deep Blue Sea (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001), King Kong (2005) and more. Funny thing is, I saw all three of those movies in theaters and it isn't until looking back at them in this video that I recognize how poor their effects are. Will there come a time where we do the same with today's filmsc The second video is yet another super cut, this one focused specifically on the ten worst practical effects of all-time. It contains a few honorable mentions in the form of the dam jump in The Fugitive (1993) and the bed scene in Howard the Duck (1986), among others, but here are the ten films that...

Hollywood is just a trash bin full of chiseled bone structure. Aaron Eckardt, Ben Affleck, and of course Michael Douglas and his dad Kirk are all known for their strong jawlines. But cult actor Robert Z’Dar made those guys look like pikers with his mammoth chin, which he exploited to perfection with a string of nasty villain roles that were B-movie heaven. A Chicago native, Z’Dar is probably best know for starring as Matt Cordell in a trio of Maniac Cop films between 1988 and 1993, but his imposing mug graced over 121 films over the past 30 years.
Those credits include such gems as Hellhole, Beastmaster 2, Tango And Cash (he played “Face”), and the amazing Samurai Cop (he was filming the belated sequel to that one when he died). Z’Dar was a staple of the horror convention circuit and was a genuinely nice guy. He was apparently attending one of...

I recently got to ask a few question to actress Mindy Robinson about her career and craft. Robinson currently has a ton of movies available to rent, including Chicks Dig Gay Guys, The Coed and the Zombie Stoner, Alpha House, Club Lingerie, After School Massacre and Abstraction. Also keep an eye out for The Green Fairy coming soon.
For a complete list of credits and appearances visit Robinson's official IMDb: Mindy Robinson.
Read the entire interview with this exciting indie talent below:
Jw: You have a wide range of credits, from horror, to comedy, to reality TV. What is your favorite genre to work in? Do you take a different approach to different genres?
Mr: Comedy comes pretty naturally to me. I only feel like I'm acting when I have to be super serious because that's just not how I normally am.

Holy shit guys! No, seriously. Dreams are coming true with the video above. I heard about Samurai Cop in the mid 2000’s when Media Blasters put out the DVD with the Joe Bob Briggs commentary. Rumors were that the man who played the title character, Joe Marshall (aka. The Samurai Cop), Matt Hannon had shuffled off this mortal coil. Hell, that’s what I was telling people when we showed Samurai Cop at Late Nite Grindhouse. Then, last year, Hannon emerged via a YouTube video stating & proving that he was still alive and in excellent shape.
The ball started rolling from there. Gregory Hatanaka, who is behind Cinema Epoch and was releasing all of the original director’s, Amir Shervan, films, met up with Hannon and others and started an Kickstarter to get the feature some funding. As I reported last month, Samurai Cop, the 1991 cult film that still smacks of the 1980’s, has gained a large following due to its availability on VHS and now DVD (in a special edition on the latter). With the availability of digital cinema projection, the film has played to sold-out crowds on weekend midnight shows and continues to do so. There are efforts afoot to make a sequel and Cinema Epoch has launched … Continue reading →

Last year, James put together a comprehensive guide, of every piece of Halloween programming and horror movie that would air during the month of October. When I asked him if we were doing the same again this year, he acted like I was an idiot. Why wouldn’t we? With that knowledge in my head, I decided we would expand a little bit this year, and throw together a comprehensive DVD & Blu-ray buyer’s guide for the months of September and October. There are some really great horror releases between now and the end of October. Some studios wasted their opportunity to rope in the rabid genre fans. Fox, for example, except for a new Wrong Turn film, and a few catalog releases making their Blu-ray debuts(Exorcist sequels), has a calendar filled with nonsensical re-releases of titles that are already widely available, and at cheap prices.

Amir Shervan’s 1991 goofy cop thriller Samurai Cop has developed a cult following and has been playing to sell-out crowds all across the country. On Thursday, August 28, 2014, the film will be shown at the Cinefamily Theater in Los Angeles at 10:30 pm. The event will be hosted by actor Douglas Dunning and scheduled to appear in person following the screening are actors Matt Hannon and Jimmy Williams, as well as director of photography Peter Palian.
From the press release:
One of our favorite Everything Is Festival late-night actioners is back — this time, with star Matt Hannon in person for his first L.A. Q&A ever! Even in an era when action sludge was more common than shoulder pads or skinny ties, 1989’s Samurai Cop stood out as a true anomaly. Perhaps living legend Joe Bob Briggs summed it up best: a “recently unearthed, soon-to-be-classic kung-fu action-comedy skin flick with gratuitous gore elements.

They’d come for a triple bill: Amir Shervan’s Samurai Cop (1989), Don Dohler’s Nightbeast (1982) and Arizal’s American Hunter (1990). Numbers had depleted and decibels had doubled by the time the lights came back on at around quarter-to-three the next morning. Long rumored to have passed away and leaving behind his mortal coil, 4 days ago, a YouTube video surfaced. It’s true, Matt Hannon, the Samurai Cop is Fuckin’ Alive!!!! As someone who is a fan of the film and who was one of the first to officially book a theatrical show of the film. I just….I can’t believe it. Watch the video!
The video looks to be uploaded by Matt himself. I suggest subscribing to his YouTube channel to keep up with all the updates! Thanks to David Nofire and his buddy Jeremie White for pointing this out as we believe we are the first blog/site to report about it. Looks like those sons ofa bitches at Daily Grindhouse got the first word about this.

The guys at Destroy The Brain.com have dusted off a 1979 obscurity for their monthly Late Night Grindhouse midnight series this weekend (December 6th and 7th). The Visitor is a film I’m completely unfamiliar with. I do have a vague recollection of seeing the VHS box on video store shelves decades ago but I know I never watched it. Apparently, like Miami Connection and Samurai Cop, two other recent Late Night Grindhouse entries, The Visitor has developed a cult following in recent years and someone somewhere thinks it is worthy of big-screen reassessment. Its slumming cast includes Oscar winners Mel Ferrer, John Huston and St. Louis’ own Shelley Winters, as well as Glenn Ford, director Sam Peckinpah and Lance Henriksen, so I’m game.
The Visitor was an Italian-American co-production, a mixture of horror and mysticism that ripped off several of the horror/sci-fi cycles of the ’70s (Omen...

★★★☆☆ In what's been a difficult year for summer blockbusters, it seems Hollywood is returning to the venerable set up of the good ol' buddy cop comedy for cheap thrills and fast bucks; firstly with Paul Feig's The Heat, which opened last week, and now 2 Guns (2013) - a brisk, unpretentious crime caper from Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur. The sub-genre lives and dies by the chemistry of its leads, and with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg - who are always devilishly pleasing to watch, especially in comedy roles - Kormákur ensures that his own contribution is more Midnight Run (1988) than Samurai Cop (1989).
Washington and Wahlberg pick up the schtick of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover's Lethal Weapon duo as two mismatched friends: Wahlberg as garrulous tough nut Stig, a definite nod to Gibson's Riggs; and Washington as smooth operator Bobby, a sexier version of Glover's retiring family man. The difference this time,...

From the first frame of Amir Shervan's 1989 film Samurai Cop, you know that you're in for a treat. Cheesy 1980s artificial pop music that sounds like it was generated by a Casio keyboard, courtesy of Alen Dermarderossian, with white credits set against a black background (a surefire indicator that you're watching a low-budget film) give way to Okamura (Gerald Okamura) complaining that they are not an established gang, and as such, they should be very cautious to make friends with the Chinese and Japanese gangs. The guys at Destroy The Brain.com have dusted off the 1980 “classic” Samurai Cop for their monthly Late Night Grindhouse midnight series this weekend (May 3rd and 4th). I have to confess Samurai Cop is a film I’m completely unfamiliar with. It looks like an amalgam of every cheap ‘80s exploitation film made with nudity, mullets, hara-kiri, beheadings, racism, death by sword, synth rock, and slow motion karate duels! And it stars Robert Z’Dar the star of Maniac Cop with that enormous face, gigantic jaw and massive physique of his.
I’m so there! I’ve heard is that Samurai Cop is one serious deliciously demented slice of cinematic cheese and I cannot wait to see it this weekend at St. Louis’ fabulous Hi-Pointe Theater.
St. Louis filmgoers will have a chance to see Samurai Cop in all of its big screen glory this weekend when it plays...
