O Caso dos Irmãos Naves

A violent and well-done film on authritarianism, absence of rule of law, police vicious deceit, and torture as routine. Cinematography and edition are perfect and make spectator feel as if she or he were in that harsh and oppressing situation. Torture scenes are quite strong, and court scenes are very revealing. The movie would already be important just for portraying a real story of state violence and violation of human rights during Getúlio Vargas dictatorship. However, it is even more important than that, as it was made during the following authoritarian regime in Brazil, military dictatorship, which practiced the very same atrocities (if not even harsher ones). Therefore, while showing violence from the past, this great and brave movie was indeed also denouncing contemporary state crimes.
