    Rare chances...

I know that, strictly speaking, it is not a very good film. A silly screenplay, an almost non-existent direction, bad sound quality--the sound was dubbed! But consider this: it's the first Greek colour film that has a contemporary theme and the only Greek colour film of the 50s that colourfully shows us what life was like in the 50s. What is more, it is supposed to be the first film Rena Vlachopoulou has ever starred in! And the only film in her career in which she is playing an ingenue!

Despite the sound problems, the colours are great--Vassilis Maros's photography is excellent. Menelaos Theofanidis's music is beautiful, Rena's singing is perfect as usual. Do see the film and try to imagine what the Greek film industry would have gained if this woman had been given the chance to do more films in the 50s and early 60s. We should be grateful to the late Yannis Petropoulakis who directed the film for doing exactly this: giving her a chance to act, if somehow "unripely", in a movie and us a rare chance to enjoy a great comedian/singer playing a charming, easy-going young lady who is flirting, laughing, singing, falling in love in an enchanting --and bygone-- city. If Rena Vlachopoulou weren't in the film, I would say that the environment (Athens, Corfu, Greece of the 50s) actually stars in it. But Rena IS in the film. And she is stealing most scenes, as usual! Because she is a STAR!
