8MM is a dark and disturbing 1999 thriller from Joel Schumacher (Batman and Robin) and the film stars Nicolas Cage (Face/Off) as Tom Welles, a private detective whom is hired by wealthy widow Mrs. Christian (Myra Carter - Storm of the Century) to investigate a 8MM film containing shocking footage of a young woman (Jenny Powell - The Big Menarski) being slain by a mysterious masked man (Chris Bauer - Face/Off) and to determine if it is real or make believe. After discovering the young woman is a runaway teenage girl named Mary Ann Matthews. His investigation leads him on a dark and dangerous journey into the dark underworld of the Hollywood pornography industry and soon leads him to become suspicious of porn filmmakers Dino Velvet (Peter Stormare - Armageddon) and Eddie Poole (James Gandolfini - The Sopranos) and suspects their involvement. But Welles's investigation soon become a deadly obsession which leads him to uncover the sinister and terrifying truth behind the film and places the lives of his wife Amy (Catherine Keener - Out of Sight) and their infant daughter in great danger and the truth forces Welles to make a choice and Welles decides to go vigilante and punish the people responsible.
