‘Duster’ Stars Talk Shifting Dynamic Between ‘Crazy Criminal’ Jim and ‘Badass’ FBI Agent Nina
Image
“Duster,” the new Max crime series from J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan, initially pits getaway driver and career criminal Jim Ellis (Josh Holloway of “Lost”) and rookie FBI agent Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson) … until they realize they might have a common enemy in Jim’s boss Ezra Saxton (Keith David).

TheWrap spoke to Morgan, as well as Holloway and Hilson, about the shifting dynamic between the two lead characters and how they go from wary distrust to actually becoming partners in a way.

I love how these characters play off of each other.

Series co-creator Latoya Morgan: We knew from the beginning that if Jim was going to be this crazy criminal in this crime syndicate, that we had to have a really badass law enforcement officer coming after him. And that’s where Nina comes in.

I love the idea of having her be straight out of Quantico, almost too green to know,...

‘Duster’ Cast and Character Guide | Photos

“Lost” star Josh Holloway is back on TV as another exceptionally smooth criminal in “Duster.” The show, from J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan, is set in 1972 Phoenix, with Holloway as a getaway driver for a mob boss and Rachel Hilson as a rookie FBI agent who’s dead set on making him her confidential informant.

Here’s who plays who on the series and where you might have seen them before.

Josh Holloway in “Duster.” (Max) Josh Holloway as Jim Ellis

The actor, who broke out as con man James “Sawyer” Ford on “Lost,” is back as another guy named Jim on the wrong side of the law. This time, he’s a getaway driver for a mobster in 1970s Arizona whose sweet ride is a souped-up Duster, a muscle car that was only made from 1970 to 1976. He’s loyal to his employer, Saxton (Keith David), until FBI Agent Nina...

‘Duster’ Is J.J. Abrams’ Homage to B Movies and All Things Seventies
Image
As a filmmaker, J.J. Abrams wears his influences on his sleeve. A die-hard Twilight Zone fan, he turned an episode of his first series, Felicity, into a black-and-white riff on that show’s famous “Five Characters in Search of an Exit,” while Lost was full of Rod Serling-esque twists. Abrams’ films as a director have included a Mission: Impossible and two entries apiece in the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises. And his one wholly original movie as a director, Super 8, is an unmistakable homage to early Steven Spielberg.

Lifting the glass ceiling by Paul Risker
Emily Bett Rickards in Queen of the Ring (2024)
Queen Of The Ring

Ash Avildsen's Queen Of The Ring, based on Jeff Leen's 2009 biography, Queen Of The Ring: Sex, Muscles, Diamonds, And The Making Of An American Legend, is based on the real-life story of pioneering female wrestler, Mildred Burke, played by Emily Bett Rickards.

Unfortunately for ambitious single-mother Mildred Burke, women's wrestling is illegal across the United States. When she persuades wrestling heel Billy Wolfe (Josh Lucas) to train her how to wrestle, neither can imagine that they're set to make women's wrestling respectable. From shows at carnivals to sold out professional venues, they took women's wrestling to heights no one could have foreseen. However, Burke's complicated and sometimes violent relationship with Wolfe tells of the behind-the-scenes struggle for this trailblazer to hold onto her fair share of the prize.

Emily Bett Rickards is known for playing Felicity Smoak in Arrow (2012-2020), The Flash (2014-2023), Legends Of Tomorrow.

25 Celebrities Who Have Faced Death Threats
Image
Fame is one side of a single coin. While on one side, there is adoration, praise, and a spotlight on every corner of the way, on the other, a darker undercurrent lurks among the shadows. Celebrities, especially actors and public figures, often have to face these two sides: an unprecedented level of success as well as outright hostility.

The rise of social media has only amplified this phenomenon, making sites like X or Instagram a megaphone for vitriol and threats. From obsessed fans to anti-fans, celebrities are at more risk than ever, especially when every little detail about their life is just a simple Google search away. Hence, death threats have become increasingly common over time, adding a lethal disadvantage to being in the limelight.

From misdirected anger over fictional roles to personal vendettas fueled by public controversies, celebrities face death threats for several different reasons. Let’s delve into...

Image
As TV fans, we always welcome a new month because that means there's new shows and seasons to tune into! There's quite a few exciting additions coming to streaming in May 2025, and a couple that we feel like may not be worth your time. So here's 4 best new shows to watch, as well as two to skip, in May 2025.

Shows to watch on streaming this monthPoker Face season 2 on Peacock

One of the most highly-anticipated shows of the month, and honestly the year, is definitely Poker Face season 2. We've waited a long time for the new season to arrive, and it's finally almost here this spring. The series just has such a unique take on the murder mystery genre, even though it's been done many times.

The fact that we travel on the road with Charlie (Natasha Lyonne), and each episode brings with a new case and new famous guest star keeps things interesting.

J.J. Abrams' Duster will take us on an exciting ride along (Trailer)
Image
Ready for a wild ride? That's what J.J. Abrams’ Duster looks like it's going to deliver, with high-stakes action, gritty drama, and a compelling story set against the backdrop of 1970s America. Slated to premiere on Max on May 15, here's everything you need to know about this new original series.

Ordered by Max in 2023, Duster is described as a crime thriller. It's created by Abrams and Latoya Morgan. You might know Abrams for co-creating shows such as Felicity, Lost and Fringe. He also created the beloved TV show Alias, which starred Jennifer Garner in the leading role. Morgan, on the other hand, is known for writing for shows like Parenthood, Shameless, Into the Badlands and The Walking Dead. With these two talented creatives at the helm, I'd say Duster is in very capable hands.

Now, let's take a look at the thrilling, action-packed trailer for a sneak peek of what's to come!

‘I’m Wilford Brimley’s Age’: Felicity Star Thinks It May Be Too Late for a Reboot
Image
It’s been more than two decades since Felicity ended its four-season run in 2002, and fans wanting a revival of the WB romantic drama series may not want to hold their breath. Per Deadline, Scott Foley, who played Noel Crane in all 84 episodes of Felicity, addressed the possibility of a reboot in an appearance on Good Morning America.

GMA co-host Michael Strahan asked Foley, who was appearing on the morning show to promote his new role on the ABC series Will Trent, if he would be up for starring in a Felicity reboot, indicating that the show’s titular character, Keri Russell, said she would be willing.

“Of course I’d do it. My question to you, Michael: I’m going to be 53 this year. I feel like the Felicity reboot window may have passed.” Strahan replied, “It’s Felicity of the future.” Foley then joked, “It’s Cocoon Felicity,...

Scott Foley Says ‘Felicity’ “Reboot Window May Have Passed” & Revival Would Be “Cocoon Felicity”
Image
Scott Foley doesn’t think a Felicity reboot could happen due to the actors’ ages.

While appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America, Foley was asked about a potential reboot for the WB drama, which ended its four-season run in 2002.

Michael Strahan asked Foley if he would be down to star in a revival of the series he co-starred with Keri Russell and Scott Speedman.

“Of course I’d do it,” Foley said. “My question to you, Michael: I’m going to be 53 this year. I feel like the Felicity reboot window may have passed.”

Strahan added, “It’s Felicity of the future,” and Foley joked, “It’s Cocoon Felicity.”

Foley was referencing 1985’s Cocoon, a film directed by Ron Howard about a group of senior citizens who are rejuvenated when they encounter aliens.

“I feel like I’m Wilford Brimley’s age when he did Cocoon,” Foley joked.

Strahan...

'La Dolce Villa' Stars Got Scolded for Their Antics

The phrase “quiet on the set” was stretched to the limit during the upbeat shoot of La Dolce Villawhen director Mark Waters (Mean Girls) had to ask his costars gently but firmly to, well, pipe down. ‘La Dolce Villa’ Director Mark Waters Talks ‘Killing People’s Rom-Com Careers’ and ‘Freakier Friday’
Image
Rom-coms have been no small piece of director Mark Waters’s career. He’s the man behind films including “Just Like Heaven” and “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,” he produced “500 Days of Summer,” and more.

But, even with a new rom-com out on Netflix this week, if you ask Waters himself, he wouldn’t necessarily tout himself as a king in the genre.

“I think I’m the person who’s responsible for killing people’s rom-com career,” Waters joked with TheWrap. “Because I know that Mark Ruffalo, after [‘Just Like Heaven’], I don’t think he did another rom-com. And after ‘Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,’ I think Matthew McConaughey never did another one.”

In fairness, that’s because both actors went on to star in much heavier fare, intentionally so. And Waters knows that, saying that “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” was a “bridging” role for McConaughey, as the character...

Scott Foley Joins Cast Of ‘Scream 7’
Image
Exclusive: Scott Foley has joined the cast of Scream 7 from Spyglass and Paramount Pictures.

Details regarding his character and the film’s plot are currently under wraps. However, Foley is already part of the Scream universe having portrayed antagonist Roman Bridger, the film director and half-brother of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) who was revealed to be the Ghostface Killer of Scream 3.

Foley’s casting comes with its own set of questions because Roman was killed by Dewey (David Arquette) at Sidney’s request. Roman has faked his own death before so it’s plausible that he could reprise the role in the present or perhaps in flashback form in the past if he is deceased. Could Roman have a long-lost twin? This is Scream after all, so if he returns as a ghost (face killer?) or a zombie, it would not shock most.

J.J. Abrams Sets New TV and Film Production Pact With Warner Bros., Signaling the End of the Mega-Deal Era
Image
Back in June 2019, J.J. Abrams struck a massive overall deal that would keep him in the fold of Warner Bros., his home studio since 2006.

The five-year pact, pegged at $500 million at the time, had a unique structure that allowed Abrams to draw from a significant pool of money to sign other writers to overall deals. That positioned the multi-hyphenate behind “Felicity” and “Lost” as not just a content creator but a mogul whose Bad Robot production company would incubate the next generation of storytellers, with Abrams and his wife, Katie McGrath, overseeing the stable. Five and a half years later, Warner Bros. doesn’t have much to show for all the coin that it showered on Abrams, even as the value of the deal dropped by half because Bad Robot failed to reach the financial and output benchmarks that would have triggered the full $500 million. With less leverage than it...

20 Years Later, Lost's Series Premiere Still Has One Of The Smartest Episode Titles In TV History
Image
Two decades later, the opening episode of Lost still holds a place in the pantheon of great TV pilots, and even its title is surprisingly clever. Lost's first episode aired across two weeks on September 22 and 29, 2004. It introduced viewers to the show that would become known for its gripping story, mysterious atmosphere, and groundbreaking production.

The premiere episode immediately hooked audiences, making the show a massive hit for ABC all the way to Lost's controversial series finale. Like most first episodes of network TV shows, Lost's debut was titled “Pilot.” Yet, in a twist that exemplifies the show’s creativity, the Lost plot’s initial focus is on an actual plane pilot.

Lost's First Episode Cleverly Gave TV's Standard "Pilot" Title A Deeper Meaning A Deceptive Yet Brilliant Episode Title

The episode's title doesn't stand out at first. After all, naming the first episode of a...

Lost's Most Iconic Storytelling Trope Was a Complete Accident (But Fans Never Noticed)
Image
Quick Links Abrams and Lindelof Finished the Lost Pilot in Just Four Months Editor Mary Jo Markey Cut the Lost Pilot From the Characters' Perspective Lost Used Character Point of View In the Show's Most Iconic Episodes

Producing six seasons of Lost took careful and deliberate planning, but happy accidents led to iconic elements of the show. Co-creators Damon Lindelof and J.J. Abrams knew what kind of series they wanted to make. To create the pilot on a stunningly tight schedule, they had to rely on the talents of their collaborators a lot more. Editor Mary Jo Markey had to cut the pilot as Abrams filmed it, and one on-the-fly decision led to Lost using individual characters' points-of-view to ground its stories.

Perhaps the most iconic scenes in the pilot are Jack Shephard opening his eyes and finding the plane crash. What Lost fans may not have noticed is how...

Cory Hardrict's 10 Best Movies & TV Shows Ranked
Image
Cory Hardrict is a prolific TV and movie actor who has appeared in numerous productions over the years and, in the last decade or so, he's managed to break out into more leading roles. Born on November 9, 1979, Hardrict began his career at a young age, playing minor characters in popular programs like Smart Guy, Felicity, Angel, and CSI: Miami. This was his career for years. His IMDb is filled with one episode parts as primarily unnamed characters, but his dedication to the career path is impressive to look back on.

Hardrict's first movie role came in the Drew Barrymore romantic comedy, Never Been Kissed, as Packer, a surprisingly large part after years of small TV roles. Things then settled back down for the actor, but it seemed like every year, he was steadily increasing his screen time and appearing in more and more projects, as if he would not be denied.
