A big part of the Indiegogo campaign is to enable the creation of practical special effects and make up for the demons that will be created by artist and actress Ella Palmer.

If you’re trying to figure out what to watch on HBO Max, you may want to prioritize a number of films that are due to leave the streaming service in April.

Set to depart HBO Max at the end of this month are such noteworthy films as the Oscar-winning “Promising Young Woman,” the Tom Hanks Western “News of the World,” the Kurt Russell 1996 thriller “Executive Decision,” and the extended version of Bruce Willis’ final “Die Hard” film “A Good Day to Die Hard.”

In honor of Women’s Equality Day (August 26), HBO Max announces the launch of its “So She Did” campaign, which champions the network’s female pioneers in front of and behind the camera.

The campaign kicks off with a film that celebrates the women who have been told they are “too much” and break all the rules to be who they authentically are.

The film features nine female-identifying talent: Jordan Alexander (“Gossip Girl”), Laura Donnelly (“The Nevers”), Susie Essman (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Myha’la Herrold (“Industry”), Martha Plimpton (“Generation”), Lisa Ling (CNN’s “This is Life with Lisa Ling”), Hannah Einbinder (“Hacks”), Zion Moreno (“Gossip Girl”) and Eyricka Lanvin (“Legendary”).

Ling kicks off the promo video, saying “When we were little, they told us we could be anything.”

Wayne’s World director Penelope Spheeris has said farewell to Hollywood for good — but it wasn’t an easy decision.

The 73-year-old director opened up about leaving the industry in an interview with the A.V. Club in which she said, “there’s no forgiveness” in Hollywood.

“Women can’t make mistakes,” Spheeris said. “You can’t screw up when you’re a woman. One little mistake and you’re done.”

Spheeris is best known for her 1981 documentary The Decline of Western Civilization as well as for her 1992 film Wayne’s World which is her highest-grossing movie to date with $183.1 million at the box office.

Filmmaker Penelope Spheeris has not released a movie in theaters since the 2011 comedy “Balls to the Walls,” and she makes it definitely clear in a new interview with A.V. Club that she has no plans to direct in Hollywood again. It turns out Spheeris made a conscious decision to leave filmmaking and Hollywood behind after helming the 2012 television movie “The Real St. Nick.” The reason why? “Hollywood changed into something that I didn’t want to be a part of,” Spheeris said.

“It was too — it’s ugly,” she continued. “You have no friends in Hollywood. Hollywood is a lonely, lonely desert, especially as a woman.”

In exiting Hollywood, Spheeris put behind her a four-decade career in moviemaking. The Enterprise is proceeding towards a rendezvous with Shuttlecraft 13 (both ships travelling on impulse power. Er, you might want to read a book while you wait) when it receives a distress call. Troi and the pilot are in trouble, and the pair crash-land on the nearby planet of Vagra II. The Enterprise arrives, not knowing whether Troi is alive or dead. Of course, she's alive. You didn't think they'd kill off a major character in such a pointless and perfunctory manner, did you? Oh. Yeah. Never mind.

After arriving at the planet, the Enterprise sends down an away team only to discover a pool of tar-like liquid refuses to allow them near the shuttle. They spend what seems...

Matthew Lillard is an actor that everyone should be familiar with. He's played diverse characters in several different types of movies; from horror films like Scream and Thirteen Ghosts to comedies such as Senseless and She's All That and family fare like the Scooby-Doo movies and television show. His newest adventure in the movie industry is as the director of his first independent feature film - an adaptation of the young adult novel Fat Kid Rules the World. I had the opportunity to speak with Lillard about bringing the young adult novel to life onscreen.

Give us a little background on Fat Kid Rules the World and how it came about.

The movie is based on a young adult book by a woman named K. L. Going. I read the book 10 years ago and fell in love with it. It's about a kid that's on the outside looking in - an outcast.

No living organism, be they man, beast, or plant, should ever be asked to watch this. Comedy is subjective; everyone has a different range of humor that elicits laughter. That said, this still requires the presence of comedy in some shape or form. Some films achieve it unintentionally, like anything starring Steven Seagall or super-low budget horror films with utterly absurd premises. Unintentional comedies are a thing of beauty; conversely unintentional non-comedies should be avoided at all costs. Perhaps the best example of this accidentally unfunny genre is the spoof film as it has existed since the success of the first two entries in the Scary Movie franchise. Usually, the feckless Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg were to blame for the piss-poor comedy, but in the case of Scary Movie 4, the culprits are Craig Mazin, Jim Abrahams and Pat Proft – which makes its crimes against film even more egregious,...

Knight and Day is what you get when you throw together two aging stars trying to be cool, $100+ million (most of which was spent on mediocre CGI), a script written by a guy whose most recent claim to fame was his role as an extra in Senseless (the 1998 David Spade trainwreck) and stir it using the level of subtlety found in Walk the Line. Already, the box office has not been kind to it, and I can see why: The movie feels like it was meant to be inconsequential, but lacks enough focus to be fun or exciting.
