Since crossing paths in 2005, Eric Winter and Roselyn Sánchez, who’ve been married for the better part of 17 years, are still going strong. But like any other successful relationship, the duo isn’t immune to some healthy bickering, which isn’t surprising as despite being in the same field, Sánchez and Winter are complete opposites for the most part.

Buddy cop movies are a staple of the action-comedy genre, pairing mismatched partners who must overcome their differences to chase down criminals. Director Richard Donner's Lethal Weapon series is well-known for popularizing the buddy-cop genre, as Mel Gibson's reckless cop and Danny Glover's by-the-book officer made for plenty of mishaps and over-the-top action sequences. The 1980s/90s franchise went on to inspire a new wave of buddy cop films, including Rush Hour, Bad Boys, and Shanghai Noon.
More recently, the genre has evolved with hits like 21 Jump Street, The Other Guys, The Heat, and The Nice Guys. Among the modern entries in the genre, Ride Along carved out its own space thanks to the comedic energy of Kevin Hart, which paired hilariously with Ice Cube's stoic intensity. With a $154 million global box office haul, Ride Along became a surprise hit, setting the stage for its 2016 sequel.

Ladies and gentlemen, I implore you! Please bear witness to today’s Gunslingers trailer and revel in the action and unseriousness of this delightful preview for what looks like an off-the-wall Western starring Nicolas Cage, Heather Graham and Stephen Dorff.
Today’s Gunslingers trailer is the shot in the arm I needed. I’m a massive Nicolas Cage fan, especially when he’s most unhinged. Don’t get me wrong, I love his dramatic roles in films like Pig, Leaving Las Vegas, and Dream Scenario. However, allowing Cage to be at his Cageiest is a cure for what ails ya.
Brian Skiba directs Gunslingers from his own script. The story unfolds in Redemption, where reformed gunslinger Thomas Keller (Dorff) and a mad genius, Ben (Cage), are guided by a spiritual leader named Jericho toward vindication. While wrestling with his inner demons, Keller runs afoul of the Five Points Gang. The confrontation forces Keller’s hand,...

Shogun star Hiroyuki Sanada has grabbed a good deal of attention with his groundbreaking performance, and last night, he received a Screen Actors Guild Award for his efforts.
As big business bros run streaming services into the ground or sell off treasured IPs for quick cash, FX actually cares about storytelling. Actually cares about television.
It is no surprise that Shogun, a spectacular historical drama set near the end of Japan’s Sengoku jidai, became one of 2024’s most critically acclaimed productions.
Actor Hiroyuki Sanada portrays daimyo Yoshii Toranaga on the hit series. But fans are also curious about his personal life.

The minions might be taking over streaming. However, even two movies from the Despicable Me franchise aren’t enough to catch up with Kevin Costner’s Western thriller. There’s a lot of variety on streaming this week. From box office hits such as Moana and Interstellar, to action-packed comedies Rush Hour and The Fall Guy, audiences gravitate to familiar flicks to keep them entertained. But if you’re looking for something new, a 2025 international thriller just hit streaming as well to keep things fresh.

When it comes to Hollywood, two of the greatest action heroes of all time are none other than the legendary Jackie Chan and Tom Cruise. To say the least, both of these star figures of the entertainment industry even seem to have laughed in the face of death while performing their death-defying stunts as unhesitantly as ever.

For a long time, there have been debates between the fans of both of these real-life superheroes about who does it better. And, this time around, Chan might just have won with his outstanding performance, considering his one stunt from Super Cop that outclasses even Cruise’s helicopter stunt from Mission: Impossible 8.

After spending three weeks at No. 1 on Nielsen’s overall streaming viewership chart, Netflix’s Squid Game has relinquished its crown.
Netflix’s Jamie Foxx-Cameron Diaz thriller Back In Action landed the top spot this week with 1.5 billion minutes viewed, Nielsen said in its weekly update on Thursday. Squid Game fell to No. 4 on the overall streaming chart with 1.25 billion minutes viewed during the Jan. 13-Jan. 19 frame, the most recent week in the data firm’s tally.
Meanwhile, Billy Bob Thornton-starrer Landman kept up its run with 1.05 billion minutes of viewing and represents the only Paramount+ show outside of library title Dexter to chart in the top 5 for this week on either the TV or movies charts.
Speaking of Western-influenced shows, Peter Berg’s American Primeval, which was the top premiere on the streaming chart last week, rose to No. 2 on the overall chart with 1.41 billion minutes viewed.

There’s an old saying that “you can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family,” and let’s be honest—when your father is Jackie Chan, that’s like drawing the short straw in a lottery. The martial arts legend, whose fame stretches across decades, has dedicated his life to entertaining the world with his fearless stunts, charm, and unshakable love for his craft.
We’ve all seen Chan leap through windows, fight off baddies with a frying pan, and risk life and limb for our entertainment. But behind the scenes, this kung fu legend’s real battle was never with a bad guy in a black suit—it was with the messy, complicated world of family dynamics. And if there’s one thing the celebrated actor has learned the hard way, it’s that no amount of roundhouse kicks or heroic stunts can protect your family from the real world.

We all know the Hong Kong martial artist and actor, Jackie Chan. He’s beloved for films like Rush Hour, Karate Kid, Drunken Master, and many more. It’s all the more impressive when you realize the actor does his stunts himself. So what if there was a manga version of him?

Sakamoto Days has been growing more popular with its anime adaptation, but the original manga already had a huge fan base. The anime community loves it for its brilliant fighting choreography, despite not being able to see it in action.
Taro Sakamoto’s fighting style was initially compared to John Wick but on closer inspection, it’s more like Jackie Chan’s. The way he uses his environment and mundane objects to fight is similar to the actor’s stunt work. It makes you wonder if...

As Kansas City Chiefs players continue to process their lopsided loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl Lix, Hollywood insiders are watching to see whether Travis Kelce is ready to snag a coveted acting career.
The year has not quite gotten off to the start that Kelce might have expected. Although the star tight end — along with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the team — reached the Super Bowl with a chance to win a third straight championship, the Chiefs’ prolonged dominance saw some football fans turn on them or become convinced that refs give them more favorable calls. Kelce’s girlfriend Taylor Swift was booed at the Super Bowl by a seemingly pro-Eagles contingent, while Kelce himself caused a social media stir ahead of the big game after calling it a “great honor” to have President Donald Trump in the stadium.

Squid Game dominated the streaming charts, though it cooled off a good amount in its third week at No. 1. Landman also peaked following its season finale, and American Primeval had a strong debut.
For the week of Jan. 6-12, Squid Game racked up 2.37 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. That’s down by about 48 percent from the previous week — but still almost a billion minutes clear of Landman in second place. Since the Dec. 26 premiere of season two, Squid Game has totaled 11.88 billion minutes of watch time in the United States.
As for Landman, its 1.38 billion minutes for the week leading into its Jan. 12 season finale continued the Paramount+ drama’s streak of improving every week it’s been on. It grew from 1.3 billion minutes a week earlier.
American Primeval, a western from Peter Berg, was the top premiere of the week with 1.25 billion viewing minutes on Netflix.

Invincible Season 3 starts streaming on Prime Video on February 6, and the series has accrued many voice actors. Most of the characters have familiar voices tied to big-name actors who might be hard to identify without seeing a face. The series has added eight new actors as well, playing superheroes, villains, and more. Season 3 also builds tensions as Mark struggles to juggle life as a superhero, a Viltrumite, and a teenager.

After his Oscar win and Marvel stint, Ke Huy Quan is delving into an action-packed film from director Jonathan Eusebio. The film, titled Love Hurts, has some sleek action choreography, which is not surprising given that Eusebio was the fight coordinator of John Wick. Quan surprises fans with his fighting skills in the trailer of the film and they call him the next Jackie Chan.

Tony Robbins, the noted life coach and self-help author, is teaming with Paramount Global to launch a Fast channel.
The channel, which will be available this summer on Pluto TV, Prime Video, Plex and Roku, will offer access to Robbins’ seminars for the first time. It will feature programming spanning more than four decades.
Robbins announced the venture Wednesday at a panel during NATPE and the RealScreen Summit in Miami, appearing alongside Dan Cohen, Paramount’s Chief Content Licensing Officer.
In the conversation, the partners mentioned numerous times that filmmaker Brett Ratner played a key role in connecting Robbins with Paramount after the company initiated the idea and sought buy-in from Robbins. The exact nature of his involvement was not specified during the session, but he will lend a hand with production and planning. The Rush Hour director was spotted amongst NATPE attendees in the lobby of the InterContinental Hotel.

The franchise may be hopelessly tainted now, thanks to director Brett Ratner, but a whole lot of people have been watching the Rush Hour movies lately. Both Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2 are currently in Netflix’s Top 10 — of course, the list also contains Boss Baby, so it isn’t exactly the highest of honors.
While the Rush Hour series is mostly remembered for its martial arts action (and Chris Tucker being Chris Tucker action), one of the most interesting things about Rush Hour 2 is that it inadvertently inspired multiple people to commit a federal crime.
The sequel finds Detective Carter and Chief Inspector Lee teaming up to battle a counterfeiting ring, which, it turns out, is laundering the fraudulent cash through their casino. So, naturally, the filmmakers needed to acquire a lot of fake money for the shoot. One sequence literally involved Jackie Chan beating up some...

A night out with your best friends is still the best night ever.
I saw “One of Them Days” in theaters over the weekend and I have to recommend it. It’s a buddy comedy that follows two best friends (Keke Palmer and Sza) who are trying to make rent before they’re kicked out of their apartment. The film is funny and heartfelt – the two leads have a ton of chemistry, you believe they’ve been best friends for a decade – and the plot is wild and entertaining. Ultimately, it’s about what buddy comedies are about: a great friendship that makes each person better. It got me thinking about other awesome buddy comedies out there – so, here are my favorite top seven buddy comedy movies you can stream right now.

In the land of cinema, stars have been born time and again with a bit of luck and a hoard of talent. But legends are harder to come by. Icons like Marlon Brando and Daniel Day-Lewis left their indelible mark on Hollywood, but no one has embodied an identity as incredible and extraordinary as Jackie Chan.

Before Jackie Chan became the high-flying action hero we all know, he took a different kind of leap – straight into a controversial film career. Image Source: Warner Bros When the first Rush Hour movie hit theaters in 1998, it captured worldwide attention, earning over $240 million at the global box office. Its overwhelming success introduced audiences to one of cinema’s most unforgettable duos—fast-talking LAPD detective James Carter (played by Chris Tucker) and stoic yet skilled Hong Kong Chief Inspector Lee (brought to life by Jackie Chan). The combination was so well-loved that it led to two blockbuster sequels, and speculation about a fourth installment still keeps fans excited. The magic of Rush Hour lies in the unmatched chemistry between its stars. Carter’s humor and larger-than-life personality perfectly complement Lee’s calm and calculated demeanor, creating a partnership that feels genuine and relatable. Over the years we have spoken with Tucker who reflected on their teamwork, highlighting how the blend of their contrasting energies struck a chord with audiences and continues to resonate with fans.

Tom Cruise, undoubtedly, continues to be one of the biggest enigmas in Hollywood. Arguably the biggest action star and one of the leading lights in Hollywood, the actor has given us some truly wonderful projects.

These may be the most well-known and have significant renown, but many others stand out.
Many trilogies are overlooked, either because they come from lesser-known IPs or were released internationally. Animated trilogies, despite being a consistent source of quality, often fly under the radar. Additionally, thematic trilogies—those connected by theme rather than a continuous plot—offer some of the richest cinematic experiences.

Chris Tucker is the quirky actor and comedian from hits like The Fifth Element, Jackie Brown, and Rush Hour. He got his start performing stand-up in the early 1990s, before transitioning to film and carving out a niche as a supporting funnyman. His rapid delivery, zany personality, and live-wire energy stand out no matter what kind of project he's in. While his presence doesn't fit every movie, Tucker often turns in memorable appearances and steals scenes.

“Kraven the Hunter” (Sony) flopped in theaters when it opened five weeks ago (not even $25 million grossed in the U.S./Canada), but the Marvel world-adjacent action film had enough interest to vie for top home VOD title last week. It placed first at Fandango (which calculates by revenue) and second currently at iTunes (ranking by transactions), although it was #1 at the latter its first three days in release.
“Wicked” (Universal) in its third week of home release remained #1 at iTunes, but dropped to second at Fandango. Both rent for 48 hours for $19.99.
At Netflix, “Back in Action” is the latest original movie to lead their top 10. The spy comedy, Jamie Foxx’s first TV movie since 2004, and Cameron Diaz’s first film of any kind in over a decade, is the kind of star-driven lightweight effort that used to populate theaters on a regular basis. Rush Hour 2 needs no introduction. When the first movie came out in 1998, no one could have imagined the acclaim and success it would achieve – earning millions at the box office and basically begging for the next part. Usually, nothing exceptional ever comes out of sequels and neither is it expected.
Almost every time, the virgin feeling of the movie concept is absent, the storyline is on a similar pattern, there is no plot mystery and the viewer's feeling for expecting something new is usually not there. It is because, in most cases, the second or third part feels like the continuation of the same idea or maybe something new but on a slightly different tangent. Rush Hour 2 feels just like that. However, it is not implied in any way that the movie is bad – In fact the complete opposite.

For horror fans, life is split into two different phases: before watching Ari Aster’s Hereditary and after. Ah, to go back to that time in life when the very thought of a telephone pole didn’t chill you to the bone. If you’re interested in joining the club of traumatized souls, you can fall in rank with numerous other Netflix subscribers who are helping the title climb its way up the streamer’s Top 10. After just a few days of being on the platform, the movie is already at the #7 spot, giving titles like Rush Hour and Despicable Me a run for their money, and ushering in new members to a very specific sub-genre: family trauma-centered horror.

Amazon Prime Video announced plans to release a documentary about Melania Trump’s life, offering a behind-the-scenes look at her experiences. Prime reportedly paid $40 million for the film.
The film, which began production in December 2024, will be released in theaters and on the streaming platform in the second half of this year. Melania, serving as an executive producer, will have influence over how her story is portrayed.
Amazon described the documentary as a “truly unique story” in a statement, expressing excitement about the project. The film will be directed by Brett Ratner, known for movies like Rush Hour and The Revenant. Ratner has kept a lower profile in recent years following allegations of sexual misconduct, which he has denied.
The documentary follows Melania’s recent openness about her life, including her memoir published last year, which detailed her modeling career, marriage to Donald Trump and tenure as First Lady. The memoir was a No.

Hollywood greats Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker served up some sidesplitting movie magic when they joined forces for the electrifying 1998 action comedy extravaganza Rush Hour, which follows Hong Kong Chief Inspector Lee as he heads to sunny Los Angeles to help his close friend hunt down the criminals responsible for kidnapping his young daughter, forcing the determined cop and skilled martial artist to partner up with the fast-talking LAPD detective James Carter.
The original blockbuster hit was a knockout with audiences, grossing $244 million worldwide and garnering widespread praise for Chan and Tucker's winning chemistry and its thrilling action sequences, ultimately launching a sensational and enduring franchise. A24 has become one of the leading producers in horror over the past decade. Most recently, their horror film Heretic succeeded at the box office and among critics, scoring an impressive 91% Tomatometer. The central Heretic performance by Hugh Grant has also garnered attention at awards ceremonies, earning the actor nominations at the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards. 2024 also saw the release of other A24 horror films including Y2K, The Front Room, MaXXXine, and I Saw The TV Glow.

Jackie Chan's best movies from the past 15 years demonstrate a surprising trend that proves he is so much more than a (legendary) martial arts actor. Most prominently known for his crazy martial arts stunts, Jackie Chan has featured in over 150 domestic and international movies in his 60-year career, breaking into Hollywood with titles such as Rush Hour and Rumble in the Bronx. However, Jackie Chan's recent movies show a different side of the famous actor and stuntman, as he has made a significant move into animation, starring as a voice actor in numerous roles.
From Mulan to the Kung Fu Panda movies, Chan has had a successful run in the animated movie medium, partly due to his popularity, yet mostly due to his incredible wit. Chan excels in action-comedy roles, having been an actor and stunt performer in the genre for the majority of his career, and this translates to his animated films.

Robert Downey Jr. and Joker director Todd Phillips’ road trip comedy with a 39% Rotten Tomatoes score is climbing the Netflix charts, more than a decade after its original release. Among the most successful and beloved contemporary actors, Downey Jr. has starred in a wide variety of movies throughout his well-observed, 55-year career. Before portraying Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer, which won him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, or his tenure as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU, he had done many comedies and even joined the cast of SNL during season 11.
Within comedy, Downey Jr. appeared in The Pick-up Artist, Soapdish, The Shaggy Dog, and the acclaimed, but debated, Tropic Thunder, among other films. However, he has proven more than capable of working across genres, as evidenced by his more dramatic roles and blockbuster accomplishments, similar to Todd Phillips’ transition from largely humor-infused projects to the 2019 thriller Joker. Meghan Markle’s Last Stand: The Kitchen
To paraphrase Winston Churchill, never in the history of streaming has so much been paid to so few for so little. But with the debut of the much anticipated With Love, Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will have perhaps one last chance to prove they’re really worth the $100 million Netflix ponied up in that 2020 five-year deal to produce and appear in shows and movies. (Update: The series was supposed to release Jan. 15, but was pushed at Markle’s request to March 4 due to the L.A. wildfires.) So far, the couple’s output has been less than majestic. Yes, their initial 2022 domestic life docuseries, Harry & Meghan, was a hit, even if critics roasted it back at home (“So sickening I almost brought up my breakfast,” The Guardian sneered). But everything the Duke and Duchess have churned out since — their social justice series,...

Jackie Chan has had a cross-cultural appeal for a number of decades. The Hong Kong-born star began his career in his birthplace. He had his first on-screen role when he was just eight years old, acting in the 1962 film Big and Little Wong Tin Bar. After that, the star later played roles in movies alongside big stars such as Bruce Lee, with whom he acted in 1972's Fist of Fury. Other 1970s Chan films included Chinese Hercules, Facets of Love, Fist to Fist, and The Golden Lotus.
It was not until 1980 that Chan made his Hollywood debut in a movie called Battle Creek Brawl (also known as The Big Brawl). Netflix subscribers are all gas and no brakes for the Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker action-comedy, Rush Hour, with the iconic ‘90s film quickly cruising its way up the streamer’s Top 10. The movie’s title insinuates heavy traffic, and that’s exactly what’s going on, with the production currently in the #9 place on the coveted list. No gridlock is expected, with Rush Hour putting the pedal to the metal and ready to speed around the competition, eying up first place. It’s hard (and painful) to know that such a quintessential movie came out over 25 years ago (yikes!), but its rise on the popular streamer proves that some fans are taking a trip down memory lane or perhaps listening to their elders and checking out one of the biggest titles to come from the latter half of the decade.

The hit 1998 action film Rush Hour starring Jackie Chan is finding newfound success on Netflix. The buddy comedy climbed to the top of the streamer's charts shortly after it was released on the platform, reaffirming its position as one of the seminal martial arts action films of the late 90s. The popularity of the movie on Netflix also speaks to the enduring appeal of the comedic chemistry between Jackie Chan and Christ Tucker. Here's hoping they can get it together for Rush Hour 4 as soon as possible.
The film, directed by the controversial filmmaker Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand), centers around the unexpected partnership between Hong Kong Detective Inspector Lee (Chan) and LAPD Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) as they work together to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a Chinese Diplomat. Much like Jackie Chan's earlier films, Rush Hour blends laughs with martial arts, creating an incredibly entertaining...

The latest in our series of Guardian writers picking their go-to happy movies is a look back at 1998’s unlikely buddy comedy
There’s many a time in a grocery store or Cvs when Fantasy by Mariah Carey comes on, and all I can think of is Rush Hour. It’s 1997, and in the backseat of a car the Chinese consul’s daughter Soo-yung (played by an 11-year-old Julia Hsu) belts sweet fantasy in the only way a Mariah song can be belted, her stone-faced bodyguards in front wading through Los Angeles traffic. To 10-year-old me, who sang about heartbreak and desire with similar vigor in front of her immigrant parents, it was a quintessentially American moment. There’s pure joy in Soo-yung’s face before we cut to the scene at large, as the car is directed to the side. A police car swings in front of them and a man gets out,...
