Quentin Tarantino has often praised Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, calling it a true “artistic experience.” On the Rewatchables podcast, he shared how the film had a big impact on him, especially after seeing it multiple times.
“I found myself watching a bunch of stuff a second time or a third time that I hadn’t watched in years and pitting the movies against each other,” Tarantino said. Dunkirk, he admitted, rose to his number two favorite film of the 2010s after repeated viewings.

Activision has just announced that they are partnering with Paramount under Skydance for a film deal based on the Call of Duty video games. As per reports, Steven Spielberg‘s team pitched the filmmaker’s vision to Activision, but the company refused.
According to Puck News‘ newsletter by Matthew Belloni, Spielberg was interested in directing the Call of Duty films, and while it should have been an easy yes given his reputation, Activision backed out.
Why? Well, as reported by Belloni, Activision was spooked that Spielberg wanted full control over the film. Ultimately, they decided to sell the rights to Paramount. Now, if you’ve seen the 1998 war film Saving Private Ryan,...

Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest, most beloved filmmakers of all time. He's the man that directed both "Jurassic Park" and "Schindler's List" in the same year. One of those films went on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time up to that point, while the other won the Best Picture Oscar. There's really nothing he can't do when he's firing on all cylinders. That's why it might be surprising to learn that when he pitched a "Call of Duty" film, Activision turned him down.
We only just learned that Paramount has made a deal with Activision to produce a live-action "Call of Duty" movie. Skydance merged with Paramount earlier this year,...

Veteran Hollywood director Steven Spielberg may be responsible for some of cinema's biggest hits, but he has reportedly missed out on tackling the movie adaptation of a $30 billion video game franchise. Throughout his career, Spielberg has often dabbled in the video game space, with many of his films providing rich fodder for the gaming industry.
Moreover, the 1999 PlayStationMedal of Honor first-person shooter game concept was created by Spielberg himself, who was inspired by his work on the 1998 World War II movie, Saving Private Ryan. Hoping to create a gaming experience that was also educational, the vast majority of the franchise's later installments also featured a WWII-era setting.

If you’re a fan of great television — or just great history — you might want to clear some time before September 15. That’s the day both Band of Brothers and The Pacific, two of the most acclaimed WWII miniseries ever made, will officially leave Netflix. Both shows remain available on HBO Max in the U.S., but the removal from Netflix is a major blow to casual viewers who’ve rediscovered them in recent years. In countries like Germany and even Mauritania, the series have been streaming chart hits, a testament to their enduring appeal more than a decade after release.

Long considered to be one of the best in the game, getting a positive sign-off from Steven Spielberg is something that many filmmakers aspire to achieve. With numerous Academy Award nominations and three wins under his belt, the visionary behind such favorites as Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Saving Private Ryan, and more is a pioneer of the craft. But what film does Spielberg look to when he’s searching for inspiration? The answer lies with one of the other industry greats who has also been both awarded and nominated for multiple Oscars — Martin Scorsese. Back in 2022, Spielberg wrote an opinion piece surrounding one of Scorsese’s most celebrated projects,...

When it comes to sheer charisma, few actors manage to exude it as well as Nathan Fillion. He's been a staple across film and television for the past few decades, playing a wide range of characters that run the gamut of genres. He can deliver comedic lines with the best of them, even dipping into cocky territory without ever coming across like a bad guy. But he's also an extremely talented dramatic actor, grounding the outlandish worlds of "Firefly" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" with genuine pathos.

The fascination that Tom Hanks has with vintage typewriters and World War II stories cannot be overstated. He has written a collection of short stories based on the former, and has starred in and produced a bunch of projects about the latter. While most of his fans would be familiar with his blockbuster hit Saving Private Ryan, one of his best-received WWII projects sort of slipped under the radar when it was first released. But in the years since, it has remained a constant favorite on streaming. The movie Greyhoundis now gaining steam on Apple TV+ once again, about five years after its original release.

John Williams is one of the most prolific film composers of all time, having created some of the most iconic scores of the past 60 years, winning five Oscars and becoming the gold standard of movie musicians. Ironically, though, the 93-year-old maestro recently admitted to his indifference and criticism of film music as a genre, telling a biographer “I never liked film music very much.”
In this Guardian interview with author Tim Grieving about Grieving’s upcoming biography of the composer, Williams broke down the craft that he’s contributed so much to. “Film music, however good it can be – and it usually isn’t, other than maybe an eight-minute stretch here and there,” he said, “I just think the music isn’t there.”
He continued, brushing off the appreciation for film music as the product of “remembering it in some kind of nostalgic way,” before adding, “Just the idea that...

The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the latest reboot of Marvel’s First Family, has already outgrossed Captain America: Brave New World globally to become the ninth highest-grossing movie of the year. With a worldwide tally of $490.5 million, the next three 2025 films it trails are Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, F1, and Superman. However, given its current momentum and fresh competition from recent releases like Weapons, it looks unlikely that First Steps will outgross these three titles during its theatrical run.
According to a report by Screenrant, The Fantastic Four: First Steps was made on a budget of around $200 million.

With a global haul of over $475 million, the film is now expected to cross the $500 million mark, its break-even point against a reported $200 million budget. The film was released in 2009, and it tells a World War II revenge story through a series of loosely connected vignettes. The main plot follows a group of Jewish-American soldiers led by Pitt’s Aldo Raine, who are on a mission to kill as many Nazis as they can. At the same time, a young French cinema owner is quietly plotting her own years-long revenge after Nazis murdered her family when she was just a little girl.

Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan was poised to win the Best Picture Oscar at the 71st Academy Awards, only to be snubbed by the Harvey Weinstein co-produced period romantic comedy Shakespeare in Love. Despite Spielberg winning Best Director, the Academy was swayed to pick the latter as Best Picture.
As a result, Saving Private Ryan losing the award went down as one of the biggest and most controversial snubs in Oscar history. It inadvertently also fueled the trend of Oscar-bait movies, which dominated the awards scene for the next decade and continue to exist even today. Here is how it all started because Shakespeare in Love won Best Picture over Saving Private Ryan.

Matt Damon has long been recognized as one of Hollywood's most bankable stars. His debut came in Mystic Pizza (1988), but his breakthrough arrived nearly a decade later with Good Will Hunting (1997), co-written with Ben Affleck. The film's success, crowned by an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, launched him into stardom.
Building on this momentum, Damon quickly established himself as a versatile leading man. He delivered a chilling performance in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), embodied action hero Jason Bourne in a franchise that reshaped the genre, and charmed audiences as Linus Caldwell in the Ocean's trilogy, securing his place among Hollywood's most reliable draws.

Ahead of David Fincher and Brad Pitt‘s upcoming spin-off, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, Quentin Tarantino declared his support for the Fight Club director. In a lengthy 2-hour interview on The Church of Tarantino podcast, Qt revealed:
I think me and David Fincher are the 2 best directors. So the idea that he actually wants to adapt my work shows a level of seriousness towards my work.
The Adventures of Cliff Booth is set to be based on Brad Pitt’s Oscar-winning role in the 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Before this, there had never been a filmmaker or scriptwriter who boldly pursued a spin-off from Tarantino’s source material. For 23 minutes, Steven Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan” drops audiences into the D-Day landings at Omaha Beach. Handheld cameras and low angles follow Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) and his squadron as they come under intense fire from German soldiers. The epic opening sequence sets the tone for the film and its brutal depiction of war, making it one of the most harrowing and realistic portrayals audiences had ever seen.

The events surrounding World War II have long served as a fertile ground for some of cinema’s most unforgettable storytelling. From the bittersweet homecoming of William Wyler’s The Best Years of Our Livesto the sweeping romance of Casablanca, the tales of war have long been a source of cinematic magic. In recent times, Jalmari Helander’s Sisu, a blood-soaked thriller that throws historical subtlety out the window and charges headfirst into the chaos, has won the hearts and minds of lovers of war movies.
Arriving on Hulu this August 29, Sisu might not necessarily echo the solemnity of other World War II films, but it brings a brutal and often unrelenting depiction of events around the war, often ignored by most aspects of history and filmmaking. Set in the unforgiving wilderness of Finnish Lapland in 1944, Sisu tells a ferocious story of survival and vengeance at the tail end of World War II.

One of director Steven Spielberg's most successful films has been overtaken at the international box office by a sequel to his most successful film. Having completed a month of release in theaters worldwide, Jurassic World Rebirth has passed Spielberg's Ready Player One in overseas markets. The book adaptation was released theatrically in 2016, grossing $445 million internationally, most of which came from China. Ready Player Oneearned over $580 million worldwide, scoring mostly positive reviews. Rebirth, which serves as the seventh installment of the Jurassic Park franchise created by Spielberg back in the 1990s, has so far generated $449 million from overseas markets.
Globally, Rebirthhas grossed $766 million, against a reported budget of $180 million. The movie has now been released on home video, which might dent its theatrical performance in the coming days. Typically, when a major film lands on the PVOD market, theater chains don't waste much time in abandoning it. However, considering...

James Cameron, the man who dove into the wreck of the Titanic and waged war in Pandora, now confesses he’s afraid. Not of failure. Not of scale. But of the terrifying truth at the heart of his next film, Ghosts of Hiroshima. The acclaimed director revealed in an exclusive conversation with DiscussingFilm that adapting Charles Pellegrino’s harrowing new book might be the single most daunting creative endeavor of his storied career.
This might be the most challenging film I ever make. I don’t 100% have my strategy fully in place [right now] for how I want to see it, for how I want to shield people from the horror, but still be honest.
With Ghosts of Hiroshima, Cameron steps outside the safety of fantasy and science fiction. Gone are the blue-skinned heroes and immersive worlds of Avatar. In their place: human ashes, melted shadows, and the searing screams of survivors.

Since it was announced to be in production back in 2023, Black Phone 2 has kept audiences perplexed surrounding its storyline. It made complete sense why Universal Pictures would want to follow up the 2021 film with a chill-inducing sequel, thanks to the overwhelming positive feedback and the gargantuan financial gain of the first, but the question remained — how will they do it? After all, the ending tied things up into a neat bow, with Finney (Mason Thames) not only escaping from The Grabber’s (Ethan Hawke) basement prison but killing the sadistic madman in the process. But, as we now know, thanks to the first trailer, Finney can’t seem to shake the child killer even in death. As part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we’re excited to share another look at the reunion between victim and villain in a never-before-seen shot of Black Phone 2.

A washed up action star, a drug-addicted comedian, a sell-out rapper, and a pompous self-important method actor walk into the jungle. That's either the beginning of a very tasteless joke or the premise of Ben Stiller's Hollywood satire "Tropic Thunder." This audacious comedy goes further and lower than just about any other movie dares to go, lampooning every layer of Hollywood from the obnoxious foul-mouthed studio bigwigs to the lowly production assistants they disrespect and demean for sport.
The go-for-broke satire in "Tropic Thunder" still causes controversies to this day, with Stiller insisting that he makes "no apologies" for the storyline involving Robert Downey Jr. 's Oscar-winning method actor recoloring his skin so that he can "authentically" play the part of a Black army sergeant. Minority Report
Starring Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton, Max Von Sydow
Directed by Steven Spielberg
Now Showing At Veena (Patna)
At times, as we watch Steven Spielberg’s latest spin on futuristic trauma, we wonder if we’re watching a Hindi film. A slick, supple and slender film, but nonetheless inured to Hindi film conventions.
Now take this particular sequence from Spielberg’s sleek spinball: a woman who can see into the future accompanies fugitive Tom Cruise into a shopping mall. As the cops run helterskelter searching for our hero on the run she murmurs, “Just stand here.” At that very minute a man with a bunch of balloons passes in front of Cruise, blocking him from the surveillants’ view.
Now take this sequence: Cruise is chased into a futuristic car manufacturing plant where he gets squeezed into a moulding machine. We soon see him emerge in a sleek sports car and drive away.

It was reported last year that fans would be returning to the most frightening guest house with a television adaptation of Hostel, adapted from the popular horror film franchise of the same name, and we now have a major update on that front. The series has landed at Peacock for development and is currently being fast-tracked for production, according to Variety. Plot details remain slim, but the show does have a recent Oscar nominee attached.
The series is set to star Paul Giamatti, and it seems that the iteration of the show at Peacock is largely the same as first reported. Hostel will be based on the horror franchise that first premiered in 2006. The original film, directed by Eli Roth, followed a group of college students who take a trip to Eastern Europe. But things go bad when they are abducted in Slovakia by a group known as the Elite Hunting Club,...

Matt Damon is one of the most bankable stars and highest-grossing actors of all time. He rose to stardom in 1997 with Good Will Hunting, a film he co-wrote and starred in alongside his lifelong friend Ben Affleck. Their work earned them an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, while Damon was also nominated for Best Actor, launching him into Hollywood's firmament.
From there, Damon quickly became a leading man with standout roles in The Talented Mr. Ripley, the Jason Bourne series, and Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's trilogy. He earned additional Oscar nominations for Invictus and The Martian. He's also starred in Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan, Martin Scorsese's The Departed, and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, the last of which is Damon's highest-grossing film to date at $975 million.

John Cena has made a name for himself as both a wrestling superstar and a successful actor. He has starred in action movies, comedies, and television shows, showing a wide range in his performances. This success in Hollywood has made many people curious about the kinds of movies he personally enjoys.
Given his long career in the WWE, it is not surprising that Cena’s taste in film is influenced by his experiences in the ring. The world of professional wrestling is built on clear stories of good versus evil and the journey of a hero. These themes have had a strong impact on what he looks for in a great movie. They are central to the films he values the most.
In a recent interview, Cena shared the movies he considers his all-time favorites. When asked to name his top four, he actually listed six. His list includes The Shawshank Redemption,...

Brad Pitt’s Se7en To Stream Again—Crime Classic Set For Digital Resurrection(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Se7en is one of those films that lingers long after it ends. David Fincher, still fresh from his rocky start with Alien 3, hit something sharp and unforgettable in 1995 with this disturbing crime thriller.
The film brought together Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey in a dark, rain-soaked city where names don’t matter and nothing feels safe. Freeman plays the older detective counting his final days, while Pitt’s younger cop comes in with fire in his chest. Their hunt leads to a killer who follows the seven deadly sins like a roadmap, and what follows is a slow pull into something much deeper than blood and bodies.

Which Real-Life Memory Inspired The Opening Scene Of Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan?(Photo Credit –Wikimedia/Facebook)
Steven Spielberg has always carried World War II in his bones, as it runs through his stories in different tones and textures. Although the legendary director shifted the lens across drama, action, sorrow, and spectacle, war remained at the center, not as a history lesson, but as a source of something he could not let go of.
Steven Spielberg’s Deep Connection With World War II
Spielberg’s adventure of Indiana Jones chasing relics through Nazi plots worked after the comic mess of 1941. His Oscar epic, Schindler’s List, stripped everything back to something deeply human, and in Saving Private Ryan, the war was not just a setting but the weight crushing every frame. However, the director did not stop with films; he served as executive producer of Band of Brothers, The Pacific,...

Superman may be the Man of Steel, but Mr. Terrific is hands-down the most terrific hero populating the newly relaunched DC cinematic universe. That's one of the key takeaways from James Gunn's Superman, which promotes DC Comics' resident tech genius and brilliant tactician from the B-list to the A-list. Played by Edi Gathegi, Mr. Terrific emerges as the breakout star of the blockbuster film, scoring big laughs and an even bigger solo action sequence that firmly establishes him as a force to be reckoned with.

There’s just something about a Western that proved to be like a magnet during the careers of Kevin Costner and the late Gene Hackman. Both men appeared in numerous gunslinging projects, with the former continuing to chase his dream of the biggest genre epic of all time with his Horizon saga. But, more than 30 years ago, the pair’s paths crossed when they joined the call sheet for Lawrence Kasdan’s (Dreamcatcher) period classic, Wyatt Earp. Although the movie may not have been as popular as other similar titles that the two leading men starred in, it’s still certainly worth a watch all these decades later. And soon, Netflix fans will have the chance to do exactly that, as Wyatt Earp rides onto the streamer on August 1.

Since at least the late '90s, HBO has been hailed as the gold standard of television. When people think about the network, the same sort of work usually comes to mind. Whether it's classic prestige TV shows "The Wire," "The Sopranos," or "Six Feet Under" or groundbreaking contemporary miniseries like "Watchmen," "The Night Of," or "I May Destroy You." Heck, even their biggest misses like "The Idol" or "John From Cincinnati" are fascinating works of art.
As much praise is heaped on HBO, however, surprisingly little is afforded for the litany of feature films they produce and release every year. With such a large back catalog of great movies to choose from, we've selected the 15 best HBO original movies to get your next marathon underway.
