After ten films teamed together, this film was the final feature film collaboration of actors Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon.
This sequel to Drôle de couple (1968) was made and released about 30 years after the original. The movie is significant in film history for being one of the longest gaps between the release of the original film and a sequel where all the main lead actors actually reprise their roles. Later, the record was beaten by 11 years, as the film Goin' Down The Road (1970) and it's sequel Down The Road Again (2011) featured the surviving main cast and original director, 41 years apart.
This Neil Simon movie was written directly for the screen and was not based on a Neil Simon play as many of his other films had been, such as the original Drôle de couple (1968).
The penultimate theatrical feature film for both Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. Matthau's last was Raccroche ! (2000) whilst Lemmon's last was La légende de Bagger Vance (2000).
