There’s officially only one episode remaining in the first season of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and while the identity of The Supervisor on At Attin still largely remains a myth, a crucial detail about the character has officially been unveiled. The credits for the penultimate episode of Skeleton Crew revealed that Stephen Fry, best known for his work in V for Vendetta and Wilde, is the voice of The Supervisor, the mysterious leader of the Republic Mint At Attin. Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, episode 7, "We're Gonna Be In So Much Trouble."
A key piece of the puzzle to one of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's biggest mysteries has been revealed. This mystery is in regard to the mysterious Supervisor who oversees the government and all life on the planet of At Attin. Despite the Supervisor's importance, the character is not seen or heard from in the first six episodes of Skeleton Crew, even after the children leave the planet.
That is no longer the case as of Skeleton Crew episode 7, which includes the Supervisor's voice for the first time. As the Onyx Cinder approaches its landing, the Supervisor makes a public announcement, informing the citizenry of At Attin that a Republic Emissary is arriving with a shipment and that all non-essential work will be paused until the shipment is offloaded.

Johnny Flynn was murdered within a week of stepping onto the set of Ripley.
The British actor plays Dickie Greenleaf in the eight-episode Netflix adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley and while he knew the character would meet an untimely demise in the story, he wasn’t prepared for it to be within days of meeting Andrew Scott, who plays the title character.
“I was just getting to know Andrew and there he is bludgeoning me and cradling my dead body,” Flynn tells Rolling Stone. “It was a good icebreaker.

Playwright James Graham has teamed up with Michael Sheen for three part BBC drama, The Way. Here’s the trailer.
Michael Sheen has spent a good portion of his career playing real-life figures, perhaps most notably David Frost in Ron Howard’s film version of Peter Morgan’s Frost/Nixon.
He has also played journalist Robbie Ross in Wilde, writer Jeremy Dyson in The League Of Gentlemen’s Apocalypse, Chris Tarrant in Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? scandal drama Quiz and he played a heightened version of himself opposite David Tennant in Staged. He’s about to take on the role of Aneurin “Nye” Bevan in Tim Price’s play Nye at the National Theatre. Likewise, James Graham often writes political plays based around recent events.
The two have now teamed up for BBC drama The Way, which although it takes its inspiration from real events, follows fictional characters.

January 1999. One quarter of a century ago. I attended the Golden Globe Awards for the first time (as an accredited member of the press) — and it was a night that I’ll never forget.
Interestingly enough, the most memorable moment of the night for me wasn’t having Best TV Supporting Actress co-winner Camryn Manheim (“The Practice”) quiz me on lines from 1997’s hit comedy “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.”
Rather, it was when I was practically escorted out of the backstage press room for expressing my shock when Lauren Bacall announced Jim Carrey as the year’s Best Drama Actor for “The Truman Show,” beating out the likes of Tom Hanks in “Saving Private Ryan,” Ian McKellen in “Gods and Monsters” and Nick Nolte in “Affliction.” (My money had been on McKellen.)

Are you ready? The official trailer for Paramount+’s Zoey 102 is here, and the gang’s (mostly) back together again.
The first look at the film sees Pacific Coast Academy alumni Zoey (Jamie Lynn Spears), Quinn (Erin Sanders), Logan (Matthew Underwood), Chase (Sean Flynn), Michael (Christopher Massey) and Stacey (Abby Wilde) reunite for Quinn and Logan’s wedding.
The trailer opens with a look at Zoey 15 years after Zoey 101 ended. She’s now 30, single and eager to know why everyone her age is obsessed with marriage, only to find out her best friend, Quinn, is set to be wed.
“Chase is gonna be there. It’ll be fine,” Quinn tells Zoey. “It’ll be the reunion we all need.” It’s a response that makes Zoey want to get another drink, hinting that the former high school couple may not be on the best of terms anymore after ending the Nickelodeon series together.

During a standing ovation for Don’t Worry Darling at the festival in September, the film’s stars were met with cheers from the crowd as they shared a kiss and hug.
When asked about kissing Styles in a new interview with Vanity Fair, Kroll replied: “That’s not true. Harry kissed me.”

Olivia Wilde’s second feature behind the camera, Don’t Worry Darling, will more likely be remembered for the offscreen intrigue — tabloid romance, lead actor replacement, a glaringly public serving of custody papers, a rumored clash between director and star — than it is for much else in this umpteenth Stepford Wives knockoff. That’s not to say it’s without sizeable pluses, chief among them a meaty lead role for the dependably compelling Florence Pugh, who hasn’t played a woman in this much peril since Midsommar. It also scores points for allowing Chris Pine to show what a devilishly charismatic villain he can be.
The high-concept, low-satisfaction psychological thriller marks an ambitious upgrade in scope for Wilde from the character-driven coming-of-age comedy of Booksmart, and she handles the physical aspects of the project with assurance. It’s just a shame all the effort...

Film financier Peter Samuelson and showrunner-director Jonathan Prince have joined forces to launch PhilmCo, a production and distribution banner designed to produce socially-conscious movies and TV shows with a built-in philanthropic component.
Samuelson and Prince are working with private investors to fund the development of a range of projects that are about to be shopped to studio and network partners. The content backed by PhilmCo will focus on issues and causes that allow creative partners to build in calls to action to address the problems illustrated by the story.
Prince said issue-oriented content in the past has rarely taken the step of directly connecting audiences to charitable donations or social actions to capitalize on awareness. This will be a primary focus of PhilmCo which aims to knit together a network of appropriate nonprofit, charitable and philanthropic partners to help support each project and benefit.

Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.
The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!
Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much.

“I think color is one of the best storytelling devices that we have,” explains costume designer Alexandra Byrne. “It is a kind of subliminal signpost. You’re guiding the audience’s instinctive response to something.” The Oscar winner used color to great effect while bringing Regency-era clothing to life in “Emma.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“Emma” isn’t the first time Byrne has tackled a Jane Austen adaptation. She previously designed the outfits for “Persuasion” (winning a BAFTA TV Award in the process). It was her first ever film, with the designer admitting she “had not a clue what I was doing.” That allowed her to work off of her intuition, after amassing mountains of research of course (which she notes was more difficult back in 1995 before the internet inundated us with information and images). “There is a great joy in trusting your instinct,” says Byrne. Michael Emerson's name might not be as recognizable as his roles, two of the most prominent of which are as Ben Linus in Lost and serial killer William Hinks on The Practice.
But some people may be aware that Emerson has been acting since the late '90s, landing his first starring role in an off-Broadway play called Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde. He continued to act on stage before getting the guest-starring role of Hinks, which earned him an Emmy in 2001.
Related: Lost: The 5 Tallest (& 5 Shortest) Actors In The Cast
Emerson continues to act and rack up credits on his resume, often playing quirky, eccentric, and downright murderous characters. Looking back at his career, he has had a few notable roles, both big and small.

First published in 1887, Wilde’s tale is an eerie, heart-warming story with touches of humor, following Sir Simon de Canterville’s ghost, which has been dwelling in his ancestral castle for 300 years. His quiet life will be unsettled when an American family—a Minister, his wife and their four children— move into the house. The ghost tries with all his might to scare them away, but fails miserably. Emma. (Autumn de Wilde)
Draw the quick conclusion for why I had little desire to note-take during Emma. (stylized with a period; reasons probably unnecessary), but don’t mistake this limited interest as a dismissal of the entire project. And if whatever compliments it can be paid require meager critical insight, these virtues are nevertheless evident: its ensemble cast befit their talky material with total charm; its design elements, a live-or-die component of 19th-century period pieces, are often exquisite; and notwithstanding slightly anemic aspects to its digital palette, this ornate package is photographed with care. – Nick N. With Directorial Debut ‘Booksmart’, Olivia Wilde Addresses Underestimated Demographic Of Young Women
After playing determined free spirits who refuse to be boxed in, like Quorra in Tron: Legacy, Devon Finestra in HBO’s Vinyl, and ambitious Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Kathy Scruggs in this season’s Richard Jewell, Olivia Wilde expanded her resume, which already included producing Meadowland and A Vigilante, to make her feature directorial debut with revisionist teen comedy Booksmart. The pic follows two brainy high schoolers played by Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever, who realize they have only 24 hours before graduation to finally let loose. What ensues is a comedic caper packed with poignant musings on friendship and identity.
While the pic, like many smaller films this past summer, was bulldozed by Avengers: Endgame and Aladdin, it spoke to its core audience, and Wilde impressed studio executives around town to the point where they were clamoring and bidding on her follow-up directing projects with Booksmart writing collaborator Katie Silberman:...

Broad-shouldered, square-jawed and standing six foot three, you wouldn’t think Rupert Everett would be so imposing considering the boyish playfulness he exhibits as Oscar Wilde in “The Happy Prince,” which also marks the actor’s directorial debut. It’s a wonder Everett has never portrayed Wilde before given the number of qualities the two men share: cutting wit, a self-awareness, an outspoken nature that can be both dark and humorous at the same time.
Everett was nominated for Best Actor at the recent Bifas, losing out to Joe Cole for “A Prayer Before Dawn.” However, he is still in the running for several categories at this season’s Baftas: Best Actor (we Brits love to reward our own), Best British Film and Outstanding Debut by a British Writer/Director/Producer.
It’s a debut, by the way, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Dramatizations of the life of playwright Oscar Wilde usually dwell on his sentence to prison with hard labor for homosexuality. The films “Oscar Wilde” and “The Trials of Oscar Wilde,” both of which came out in 1960, put the emphasis on his downfall, as did the biopic “Wilde” from 1997 and numerous theatrical productions, such as “Gross Indecency.”
Rupert Everett played Wilde in a revival of David Hare’s play “The Judas Kiss” in 2012 in London, and now he returns to the role in “The Happy Prince,” which he also wrote and directed. Everett shows little sense of how to structure his material, or how to shoot it, or even sometimes how to act it, but he does have one key element that sees him through: keen insight into Wilde’s world and character. And this insight gets him pretty far here.

Jude Law is 44 years old today and what better way to shake off the blues than to appreciate extremely vivid talent that's still very much with us and has always comes in such delicious wrapping? Next up for Jude Law is the intriguing but-who-knows HBO series The Young Pope.
But until then we gawk at the beauty for with Jude Law the beauty never ends, no matter what phase of life he's hit or what character he's lurking within. He began as callow twinks, moved into suave young guns, aced the sexually promiscuous twenty-something swingers and wounded thirtysomething romantic. And now he charms whether purposefully going to seed or cleaning up real nice in middle age.
We've loved him since his film breakthrough in 1997 (Wilde, Gattaca, Bent). Twenty years later after offering up many great performances and generous eye candy to his fans, he has yet to give us a reason to stop.

England is viewed by the wider world as a nation of eccentrics. This is considered a genetic characteristic, and something to be celebrated. Like most assumptions, the truth lies somewhat wide of the remark. Quentin Crisp, one such "National Treasure," is now rightly revered as one, but his journey from pariah nuisance to that of sage-like venerability was a long and winding affair. He migrated to New York, remaining vital till the end, an amalgam of defiance and disappointment worn as wit.
Some considered him a latter-day Oscar Wilde, a comparison he didn't much value, remarking that he'd known many who'd been sent to prison for crimes of the flesh like Wilde's, without being broken or penning such bad verse.
Unkind maybe, but Wilde had it all and lost it largely because of his own arrogance. He could have fled to Paris, had the chance to but didn't take it.

Today in 1939, The Importance of Being Earnest opened at the Vanderbilt Theatre, where it ran for 61 performances. Written by Oscar Wilde, the show was first performed on 14 February 1895 at St. James's Theatre in London, it is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious personae in order to escape burdensome social obligations. Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play's major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways. Its high farce and witty dialogue have helped make The Importance of Being Earnest Wilde's most enduringly popular play.

Director Clio Barnard’s 2013 film is an unflinching look at the hard scrabble lives of two teenage misfits growing up in a poverty-stricken area of post-Thatcher England. The two boys, who earn their money collecting and selling scrap metal, fall in with a Fagin-like dealer whose shady ways lead to inevitable tragedy. The film was very loosely based on a children’s parable written by Oscar Wilde and though Wilde’s story takes place far from the destitute foothills of Bradford, England, the melancholy allegory proves both moving and authentic.

If you're betting on "Boyhood" to win big at the upcoming Academy Awards, think again! Richard Linklater's "Boyhood" was deemed to be the big Oscar frontrunner but a double-dose of guild awards over the weekend tamed those prospects down. First, the Producers Guild of America gave their top honor to Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman," and the Screen Actors Guild followed suit!
"Birdman" took home the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award! But, since the movie is about acting, this award is just fitting.

The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations were revealed Wednesday morning, serving as yet another precursor on the long road to the Oscars.
In the film categories, Birdman was the big winner, scoring four nominations, including for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as the collective ensemble cast. Boyhood followed right in its footsteps with three nods for Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and another ensemble nomination.
The big surprises of the morning’s nominations started with Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, a bubble contender in a crowded Best Actor race, Jennifer Aniston for Cake, a bubble contender in a disappointingly less crowded Best Actress race, Robert Duvall in the poorly reviewed The Judge and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent (Watts was in Birdman as well, but that must’ve slipped SAG’s minds).
