“Home Improvement” actor Zachery Ty Bryan has pleaded guilty to felony assault but has cut a deal to avoid jail time.
“He believes this is the manner he could best resolve this to avoid further trauma to his family,” the actor’s attorney John Kolego told TheWrap on Wednesday.
Bryan, who played the eldest son in the Tim Allen sitcom “Home Improvement,” was arrested in July in Eugene, Oregon. He was charged with felony assault in violation of the Abuse Prevention Act because the victim had already filed a restraining order against him for a previous incident of domestic violence.
Instead of spending 19 to 20 months in Oregon Department of Corrections, Bryan will given 36 months of supervised probation. He must also serve seven days in jail.
If he violates the terms of the agreement, which include no contact with the victim and undergoing alcohol and substance abuse treatment, the deal will...

Zachery Ty Bryan, former star as the eldest son in the Tim Allen vehicle “Home Improvement,” has been arrested on domestic-abuse charges for a second time.
Bryan was arrested Friday in Eugene, Oregon, on a charge of felony assault in violation of the Abuse Prevention Act. This happens when the arrested is accused of attacking someone who has previously filed a restraining order against them for domestic violence. According to media reports, police received a call about a physical dispute between a man and a woman. The man fled the scene by the time police arrived on the scene but was later found and booked.
This isn’t the first time Bryan has faced charges of this nature. In 2020, the 39-year-old actor was arrested on domestic assault and strangulation charges in Eugene. He was accused of assaulting his then-27-year-old girlfriend. According to reports from the AP, he obstructed her...

Marvel? DC? They have their moments, but how about Shogun Assassin, and in turn, the Lone Wolf & Cub movies?
Like most western viewers, I came to the Lone Wolf & Cub series via Shogun Assassin – a recut/mash-up of the first two movies, trimmed to 90 minutes and dubbed into English by a pair of enterprising Andy Warhol acolytes. It was one of the original 'video nasties' in the UK, banned for years, so highly desirable to a kid like me. And it didn’t disappoint. In fact, it was probably the goriest movie on the list.
While it may seem criminal now to butcher a pair of bona fide Japanese classics and completely change their meaning and tone, Shogun Assassin got away with it by being so vibrant and hyperactive. The inappropriate score is a joyful synthesiser meltdown and the spirited dub goes full-pelt, even if what they...

If one wishes to highlight what made Jacques Rivette a significant figure in the cinematic landscape, it’s key that they cite his cinephilia — the rabid sort that is uncommon in even our smartest voices, filmmaking or otherwise. More than one who saw a bunch of movies, though, the late, great director maintained a critical fashioned at Cahiers into our contemporary day, sharing a wide, sometimes unexpected range of thoughts on what made works of all kinds stand tall or fall apart.
All of which is to say that his list of favorite films should come from a wellspring of knowledge and passion. In any case, his selection, shared by critic Samuel Wigley — rather a selection, being that it’s from the 1962 Sight & Sound ballot — is a fine one for spanning from the form’s earlier days to its then-contemporary masters, and perhaps as an immediate window into the Cahiers critical mindset.
