Scatena & Rosner Films is rolling out Grammy and Tony winner Jhett Tolentino’s film directorial debut “Asian Persuasion” across North American theaters, with a digital/VOD bow to follow. The romantic comedy, penned by Mike Ang, toplines “Hook” alum Dante Basco and Filipino star Kc Concepcion (“Boy Golden: Shoot to Kill”).

The film, which snagged the Audience Award at the 2023 Soho International Film Festival, follows an underachiever who concocts an elaborate scheme to dodge alimony payments to his fashion-exec ex-wife. The ensemble cast features “Bling Empire” breakout Kevin Kreider, Paolo Montalban (“Cinderella”), Geneva Carr (“It’s Complicated”), Scarlet Sherr (“Hustlers”), Celia Au (“Lodge 49”), and newcomer Jax Bacani.

Netflix’s restructuring continues with the impending departure of one of the streamer’s top film executives, Tendo Nagenda.

The veteran executive, who joined Netflix from Disney in 2018, shepherded such movies as “The Harder They Fall,” “Da 5 Bloods” and the upcoming “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” for the streamer. Variety can confirm that Nagenda’s last day in his role as VP of original film will be Sept. 1.

The son of director Dick Moder, he was born on April 25, 1936, in North Hollywood. He attended Notre Dame High and graduated from Loyola University before starting his career in the film industry in 1960. Moder’s credits include working as a first Ad on Jeremiah Johnson, Little Big Man and Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke, before he produced those big studio films among many other features and TV.

A 25th anniversary celebration of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella will air with a news special cast reunion and presentation of the original film as part of Disney Princess Week.

The package, Cinderella: The Reunion, A Special Edition of 20/20, airs on ABC-tv on Tuesday, Aug. 23 stating at 8 Pm Et/Pt and will stream the next day on Hulu.

The reunion will feature Brandy, Whoopi Goldberg, Paolo Montalban, Victor Garber, Bernadette Peters, Jason Alexander, and Veanne Cox. In celebration of the beloved fairytale musical’s 25th anniversary, ABC will air a special edition of the news program “20/20” that will reunite the cast of the television film, set to air on Aug. 23. The film’s entire surviving cast — including Brandy as the titular princess, Paolo Montalban as the prince, Jason Alexander as his valet Lionel, Whoopi Goldberg as the queen, Victor Garber as the king, Bernadette Peters as the wicked stepmother and Veanne Cox as one of the stepsisters — will return for the special, which will be followed by the first broadcast airing of the original film in two decades.

ABC is celebrating its iconic TV Movie production of “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” for its 25th anniversary.

The network announced it will release a reunion special with the original cast titled: “Cinderella: The Reunion, A Special Edition of 20/20” and following the special, re-air the original 1997 musical production.

“We’re delighted that the 25th anniversary of this landmark incarnation of ‘Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella’ is being celebrated on its original network,” said Imogen Lloyd Webber, SVP at Concord Theatricals, on behalf of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s unforgettable score is truly timeless — still enchanting listeners 80 years after their partnership began and 65 years since their ‘Cinderella’ first charmed the largest audience in television history.”

Pop singer Brandy broke ground as America’s first Black Cinderella on television along with her fairy godmother, Whitney Houston in the film.

Streaming dreams do come true — at least when it comes to Cinderella. The latest installment of the beloved fairytale, which stars Camila Cabello, Billy Porter, Idina Menzel and Minnie Driver, is finally dancing its way into theaters and on-demand this Labor Day weekend.

Last week, Disney Plus announced that 1997’s “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” starring Brandy and Whitney Houston, would begin streaming Feb. 12.

The movie’s streaming debut has been long awaited by fans who urged Disney Plus to rerelease the musical, which was originally televised as a “Wonderful World of Disney” special on ABC.

“I feel like it’s divine timing,” Brandy tells Variety, saying she learned that the film would come to streaming just over a week ago. “This is the month of love; this is a month of Black history. This is just the perfect time for this product to be shared with everyone.”

Brandy made the public announcement on ABC’s “The View,” where she reunited with “Cinderella” cast mate Whoopi Goldberg, who plays Queen Constantina in the film. Houston famously played the Fairy Godmother.

“Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” was nominated for seven Emmys and well-received by critics and audiences alike for the diverse cast in the musical fairy tale, including Brandy as Cinderella, Filipino-American actor Montalban as Prince Charming, and Goldberg as his mother.

Actress Natalie Desselle-Reid has died at age 53. Her manager, Dolores Robinson, confirmed the news on Twitter on Monday writing, "Natalie Desselle the beautiful talented actress passed away this morning. Natalie was a bright light. She was an amazing actress and comedienne but also an awesome mother & wife. Sending prayers to her family. I had the pleasure of managing her career." Natalie had reportedly been battling colon cancer prior to her death.

Natalie was well known for her portrayal of Mickey in B.A.P.S., along with many other acting credits, including Eve, Set It Off, How to Be a Player, Built to Last, and Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. Following the news, Halle Berry, who starred alongside Natalie in B.A.P.S., reacted on Instagram writing, "i'm in total shock. completely heartbroken. gonna need a minute." Natalie is survived by her husband, Leonard Reid, and three children.

However, in 2013, over 55 years after its first broadcast, led by Broadway's favorite princess Laura Osnes and crowned prince Santino Fontana, RampH 's Cinderella took its first Broadway bow. The show earned nine Tony nominations, running for nearly two years. Now, Cinderella's First National Tour sets up shop in its own little corner at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, with performances beginning on Tuesday night.
