"It Was A Nightmare & I Was A Whiny Little B-tch": Gerard Butler Explains Why Filming His New Movie Was So Difficult
Image
Gerard Butleris no stranger to action movies. Though his first movie was a period piece, playing Archie Brown in Mrs. Brown (1997), his career has often included high-octane genre movies. After performing in Mrs. Brown, he went on to play a supporting role in the Pierce Brosnan Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies, making his first foray into the action genre. Butler then revisited genre movies the next year with his adventure fantasy Tale of the Mummy, which was released in 1998. He would return to them time again throughout his career.

Fast-forward over 20 years, and Butler is still regularly involved in action movies. These range from disaster movies, including Geostorm (2017) and Greenland (2020), to the action thrillers Kandahar (2023) and Last Seen Alive (2022). Though he has been in many one-off movies, Butler has also made his way into franchises. This includes the DreamWorks animated franchise How to Train Your Dragon and the Has Fallen series.

Gerard Butler Action Thriller 'Plane' Finds Success on Streaming
Image
Action star Gerard Butler continues to be hugely popular with audiences as we enter 2025. One of the actor’s best-reviewed movies, 2023’s Plane, is now taking flight on streaming, landing at #4 on Starz in the United States. Boasting a score of 79% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences were even more enamored with this tale of a stranded passenger plane, awarding the movie a hugely impressive 94% on the Popcornmeter. “Check your critical thinking at the gate: The plot's preposterous and loaded with entertaining action, making Plane plenty of good old-fashioned fun,” the audience consensus reads.

Directed by Jean-François Richet and written by Charles Cumming and J. P. Davis, Plane is led by Gerard Butler as pilot Brodie Torrance and Luke Cage star Mike Colter as the mysterious convict Louis Gaspare. The rest of the cast behind the action thriller includes Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World Dominion), Yoson An (Mulan), Remi Adeleke (Transformers: The Last Knight...

Gerard Butler Had a Failed Mummy Movie Before Brendan Fraser's Hit
Image
In 1999, the Stephen Sommers movie The Mummy, featuring Brendan Fraser, killed it at the box office. Banking over $400M and entertaining audiences with its action-adventure story, the film proved there was an appetite for mummy-related projects for arguably the first time since the 1930s. This interest was somewhat surprising due to a massive bomb released the year prior: Russell Mulcahy's Tale of the Mummy — yes, the director put his name in the official title — starring a babyfaced Gerard Butler in his third ever feature. Despite their similar topic, The Mummy and Tale of the Mummy couldn't be more different. So, why was one film so successful and the other so... not?

Why Shelley Duvall Left Hollywood (It Wasn't Because Of The Shining)
Image
Shelley Duvall's career began by chance when she met Robert Altman and went on to appear in his films, including the critically acclaimed Nashville. Despite her other notable roles, Duvall's performance as Wendy Torrance in The Shining is considered one of her most memorable, although her experience with director Stanley Kubrick was difficult. Duvall left Hollywood due to a combination of dwindling film roles, her brother's illness, and the aftermath of an earthquake near her home in LA. After a 20-year hiatus, she returned to acting in the independent horror film The Forest Hills.

Shelley Duvall left Hollywood on a two-decade-long hiatus, but as some might assume, it wasn't because of her experience on The Shining. Never an actor by training, Shelley Duvall's career began almost by accident when she met Robert Altman at a party while he was filming Brewster McCloud (via Texas Monthly). This led to more castings in Altman films,...

Michael Lerner at an event for Blanche Neige (2012)
An Academy Awards nominee for his performance in 1991’s Coen Brothers-directed film Barton Fink, veteran actor Michael Lerner has passed away at the age of 81 years old.

Michael Lerner made several appearances in the horror genre throughout his decades-spanning career, including the films Anguish (1987), Maniac Cop 2 (1990), and Omen IV: The Awakening (1991). You’ll also remember Lerner from the 1993 episode of “Tales from the Crypt” titled ‘People Who Live in Brass Hearses,’ one of the show’s most memorable tales.

Later in the 1990s, Michael Lerner played Mayor Ebert in the big screen movie Godzilla (1998), a role he soon thereafter reprised in the animated “Godzilla: The Series.”

Lerner’s nearly 200 credits in film and television also include The Candidate, Reflections of Murder, The Missiles of October, Ruby and Oswald, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Strange Invaders, Eight Men Out, Harlem Nights, Newsies, Blank Check, Tale of the Mummy, My Favorite Martian,...

Did Falcon and the Winter Soldier Set Up an Even Bigger Sharon Carter Twist?
Image
After six exciting weeks,The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has wrapped up its run. Like most things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it wrapped up its narrative while leaving many threads dangling for future projects. One character of particular interest following the finale is Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter. To say the least of it, her character is radically reshaped by the events of the show and she figures to be a big part of the MCU going forward. But did the series set Carter up for an even bigger twist down the line?

What Happened With Sharon Carter In The Falcon And the Winter Soldier?

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Proceed with caution. The Sharon Carter we catch up with in the series is not the same Sharon Carter we left off with in Captain America: Civil War. Following her participation in the events of that movie,...

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Star Rumored For McU Return
With 25 projects currently in development that include feature films, TV shows, animated spinoffs and holiday specials, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s sprawling roster is set to get exponentially larger over the next couple of years. And at the current rate that the studio are adapting their comic book properties for the big and small screens, almost every actor in Hollywood is going to end up getting involved at some point or another.

After all, Kevin Feige has already cast his eye to the past by finally acknowledging The Incredible Hulk as a thing that exists thanks to recruiting Tim Roth to reprise his role as Abomination in She-Hulk, while Charlie Cox has been heavily rumored to remain onboard as Daredevil when the Man Without Fear gets rebooted and absorbed into the McU.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., meanwhile, was official canon once upon a time, but after...

Review: Russell Mulcahy's Tale Of The Mummy (1998), a cheap and cheesy take on the venerable monster
I vaguely remember watching Tale of the Mummy with my parents in a movie theatre when I was a kid. This was back in 1998, when Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy, starring Brendan Fraser (one of my all-time guilty pleasures, by the way) was at the height of its popularity —films with similar themes and plots, such as Russell Mulcahy’s Tale, were taking advantage of the hype for Universal’s summer blockbuster. As a kid, I really didn’t know the difference between both pictures, and was only excited to see yet another Mummy movie on the big screen. But while Sommers’ film is an entertaining action-adventure populated by memorable characters and featuring state-of-the-art digital effects (for its time), Tale… is a completely different kind of beast....
