The 1986 ENO production of the fairytale opera "Rusalka" has heavy similarities to "Valerie", featuring a teenage girl descending into a dream fantasy world which illuminates her fears of adulthood. Rusalka also features 19th century influences and white and black costumes, similar to those in "Valerie"
