Summaries

  • During the summer of her graduation, young nurse Inger Holst is about to make an important decision for her adult life. Will she cave in to the smart Jørgen Frandsen, who has been hitting on her for some time - or will she go with the less flashy but morally well-intended Erik Berg?

Synopsis

  • The young beautiful nurse Inger Holst (Grethe Holmer) lives a carefree life, together with a clique of superficial young people of the same age. During a party, she is persuaded by her friend, Jørgen Frandsen (Jørn Jeppesen), to take her on a weekend trip to Tisvilde next weekend. Bodil (Lily Broberg), who has just finished his dental exam, has borrowed a summer house, but Jørgen confides in one of his friends that he has booked a double room in one of the hotels and that he intends to seduce Inger on the trip. The next day at the hospital, a little boy is admitted. He is the son of engineer Erik Berg (Erling Schroeder), who is a widower and very worried about his boy. He asks Inger if she thinks the boy will get well. Erik Berg makes a strong impression on her, and when he asks her to stay a while and talk to him, she cannot say no. She tells him that his son is in the best hands he can get. Their conversation develops and becomes very intimate. He says that he is quite old-fashioned and believes in marriage, which he believes is the true meaning of life. Inger only has bad experiences from her parents, who have divorced. When Inger doesn't show up at the agreed time at Banegården, Jørgen calls her at the hospital. Inger says that they have a difficult operation, so she will be delayed. At the hospital, the worst thing happens: The little boy dies. Inger shows the deeply unhappy father to his dead son. Inger's compassion makes her consider giving up her weekend trip. She offers Erik Berg to stay with him, but he refuses her offer. On the trip to Tisvilde, Jørgen does everything to run Inger over, but she resists any attack on her virtue. In Copenhagen, Erik Berg comes home to an empty apartment. At the sight of his son's afterlife, he breaks down and calls the hospital to speak to Inger. Here he is informed that she has gone on holiday. Inger cannot get rid of the thought of the unhappy Erik Berg. "You have to separate work and free time if you want to be a good and professional nurse", says Jørgen. On arrival at the hotel, it turns out that there is no room for them, much to Jørgen's regret. The same fate overtakes 2 single ladies, Else Hansen (Gerda Gilboe) and Norma Sørensen (Grete Frische). They end up in the hotel bar, where their ignorance of alcohol results in a proper brawl. Meanwhile, Jørgen and Inger trot around in vain for a room and eventually end up in the railway station's waiting room. The next day they managed to get a room at the hotel. Carl Thomsen (Olaf Ussing), a professional sheet metal worker who does not have completely clean flour in his bag, praises the baroness (Jutta Jerndorff) for her beautiful jewelry, and suggests a drive out into the blue. Jørgen has lodged Inger and himself as proxy for Petersen and Mrs. On the way up, they meet one of Inger's friends, who is surprised that she has married. She had heard nothing about that. In the room, Jørgen begins his curacy and Inger quickly regrets that she has gone with him. Her thoughts constantly revolve around Erik Berg with his simple and beautiful approach to life. As she has tried in vain to get in touch with him by phone, she decides to go home. Jørgen becomes enraged and holds her back by force. She tells him that she loves Erik Berg and manages to escape. At a gas station, she gets a ride to Copenhagen with Carl Thomsen, who is on his way away from Tisvilde. The baroness arrives at the hotel out of breath. She has been robbed. However, she has been present enough to take Carl's car number. The police stop the car on Strandvejen and take Carl Thomsen and Inger to the police station. Here he denies having knowledge of the two suitcases that were found in the car. The police find the stolen jewelery in them. However, it is quickly clarified that Inger has nothing to do with the theft or the suitcases, so she is allowed to go. With the help of the police, she reaches Erik Berg's address, just in time to save him from committing suicide. He is quickly taken to the hospital, where, after Inger's visit, he quickly recovers and where they confess their mutual love.
