Kristen Bell never anticipated everybody loving ‘Nobody Wants This’: ‘There’s so few times in your career when you feel that lightning thing’
Image
Kristen Bell remembers the moment she had an inkling that Nobody Wants This might hit different. Screeners of the Netflix rom-com series had been sent out to press over the summer prior to its Sept. 26 launch.

"I started getting calls like, 'We've never seen a response this rabid from critics before,'" Bell tells Gold Derby. "So that immediately changed what our press tour looked like. They were like, 'Well, you're gonna do quite a bit more press than you thought you were going to do. So please block off the entire month of August and the entire month of September to get out in front of the show because we think it could be a real hit.'"

And it was. The series became an immediate sensation its first weekend and was quickly renewed for a second season. For Bell, a veteran of beloved but little-watched shows like Veronica Mars and The Good Place,...

‘Nobody Wants This’ Star Adam Brody on Chemistry, Kristen Bell and a Career With No Regrets
Image
It’s been only a few days since Erin Foster’s new Netflix series Nobody Wants This debuted on the streaming platform, and it’s pretty safe to say that the response has been quite the opposite of the show’s title. Both online and in real life, people everywhere seem to be talking, sharing and posting about the romantic comedy that stars Kristen Bell as an agnostic podcast host who falls for an unconventional rabbi, played by Adam Brody, who has just broken up with a longtime girlfriend. The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Brody ahead of the show’s release and, in the spoiler-free conversation below, he reveals the secret to great onscreen chemistry, how he researched playing a rabbi and whether he’s truly as hard-to-get as people say.

I read that Kristen Bell was already attached when this came your way, and she told Erin Foster there...

Kristen Bell & Adam Brody's New Netflix Show Is A Reminder To Watch Their Underrated Comedy From 11 Years Ago
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Nobody Wants This!

After watching Adam Brody and Kristen Bell's new Netflix show, Nobody Wants This, viewers should watch their underrated 2013 drama-comedy movie. Netflixs hit romantic comedy was released on Sept 26, debuting to an almost perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. The show follows Joanne (Kristen Bell), a jaded agnostic podcaster who falls for Noah (Adam Brody), an attractive and charismatic rabbi.

While all the cast in Nobody Wants This gave incredible performances, making their characters nuanced and three-dimensional, Bell and Brodys incredible chemistry created a star-crossed love story to root for. Kristen Bell has appeared in many rom-coms, and Adam Brody has a few under his belt as well. Shockingly, theyve never appeared in this genre together before. However, viewers who enjoyed Nobody Wants This might want to check out another one of their projects a vastly underrated dramedy called Some Girl(s).

Nobody Wants This Stars, EP Break Down What Kristen Bell Calls Her ‘Best On-Screen Kiss’ — Watch Video

Warning: The following contains spoilers through Nobody Wants This Episode 2. Proceed at your own risk!

Sorry, Veronica and Logan ‘shippers. As far as Kristen Bell is concerned, her best on-screen kiss isn’t the memorable Camelot Motel smooch she shared with the reformed bad boy on Veronica Mars. Instead, it comes courtesy of a charming rabbi (played by The O.C. vet Adam Brody) in the new Netflix romantic comedy Nobody Wants This.

David Gail, ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ and ‘Port Charles’ Actor, Dies at 58
Image
David Gail, an actor known for his roles on “Beverly Hills, 90210” and the “General Hospital” spinoff “Port Charles,” died Tuesday due to complications from sudden cardiac arrest. He was 58.

“Gail was found unresponsive by emergency personnel who made every attempt to save his life including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation,” a statement shared with Variety reads. “Despite their efforts, Gail was put on life support where he remained for several days. He was pronounced dead on Jan. 16, 2024.”

Gail’s sister, Katie Colmenares, paid tribute to the actor in an Instagram post on Saturday, writing, “There’s barely been even a day in my life when you were not with me by my side.”

Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Kat Dennings, Kathryn Hahn, Randall Park, and Teyonah Parris in WandaVision (2021)
WandaVision: Will Pietro Maximoff Make an Appearance?
Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Kat Dennings, Kathryn Hahn, Randall Park, and Teyonah Parris in WandaVision (2021)
This article contains spoilers for WandaVision episode 3.

As we’ve now come to expect from WandaVision, the most unsettling moment of the spinoff’s latest episode arrived during its final minutes, when Wanda’s mysterious Westview pal ‘Geraldine’ showed her hand a bit after Wanda mentioned that she was a twin, just like her new bouncing baby boys.

Geraldine (Teyonah Parris), who the residents of Westview are suspicious of because she’s new to town and doesn’t have a home, is actually a grown up Monica Rambeau in the Disney+ series. We last saw Monica as child during the 90s-set Captain Marvel, and she’s most likely working for Sword in the world of WandaVision. The organization appears to rush to her aid when she is ejected from Wanda’s reality for the crime of breaking through to her in the midst of this strangely-constructed reality.

She achieves this...

Deadpool 3: The MCU Questions and Connections
Image
Deadpool is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the X-Men Cinematic Universe fizzled out as Disney bought out Fox, it doesn’t take a marketing genius to remember that Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson is a license to print money. Much like Jk Simmons reprised his role as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home, we’re once again going to see Reynolds as Deadpool because if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! And even if he was broken, Deadpool has the innate ability to fix hims—

Sorry, got lost there.

They aren’t just going to reintroduce the character like Jameson, though. We’re getting Deadpool 3 and it’s going to be rated R. This will be a sequel…but in a different continuity than its first two films. Interesting novelty.

Deadpool 3 is the ultimate wild card because we don’t really know...

Mad Men (2007)
Mad Men: The Main Characters' Story Arcs, Ranked From Worst To Best
Mad Men (2007)
Mad Men has a genuine argument for being the greatest drama in the history of television. Of course, it wouldn't have been able to obtain such a lofty reputation if it wasn't for the compelling cast of characters on the series. At every turn, Mad Men was doing right by its characters, allowing them to drive the story forward, rather than reworking their behavior to fit the show's plotting.

Related: Mad Men: Each Main Character's First and Last Line In The Series

As such, it should be no surprise that Mad Men boasts some of the best character arcs in television history, too. Its run on AMC was highly compelling; the characters helped make it that way. From those rising out of domesticity to those navigating a challenging world and potentially becoming D.B. Cooper, the arcs on Mad Men were quite remarkable.

Kevin Feige Says X-Men Discussions Have Been Long And Ongoing
The X-Men are coming to the MCU. Or so we’ve been told for the past couple of years now. We’ve known that mutantkind were due to be folded into Marvel Studios’ universe ever since Disney finalized their takeover of Fox in early 2019, but so far, no X-related projects have been officially revealed to be in the works. Indeed, last month brought news that Marvel was rebooting Fantastic Four, also formerly owned by Fox, but nothing was said about the X-Men.

Kevin Feige has been doing press to promote WandaVision‘s arrival on Disney Plus this week, though, and he’s finally opened up about where he’s at with introducing the Children of the Atom into the MCU. While speaking to ScreenRant, the Marvel Studios president reiterated his passion for the characters and revealed that “discussions” are well underway behind the scenes.

“You know how much I love the X-Men.

Kevin Feige Hints That MCU Phase 4 Will Tease The X-Men
Marvel Studios acquired the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four at the same time, but the mutants will be a much tougher nut to crack for Kevin Feige and his team. After all, the comic book icons have already starred in thirteen movies of wildly varying quality over the last two decades, with Fox’s time at the helm resulting in the seventh highest-grossing franchise in history with over $6 billion at the box office.

On the other hand, the Fantastic Four have been the subjects of four feature films, the very best of which could be generously described as mediocre, and Josh Trank’s 2015 reboot in particular rightly regarded as one of the worst superhero blockbusters ever made. With casual audiences at least, the team just doesn’t have the same sort of name value or cultural cache as the X-Men, making them much fairer game for a reboot.

Some Girls (1998)
Mad Men: 10 Things About Joan Holloway That Make No Sense
Some Girls (1998)
It's hard to find shows as riveting and genre-defining as Mad Men and its strengths all came down to its compellingly real characters. One such character who didn't have the most imposing impression from the get-go but ended up playing a major role in the series going forward was none other than Joan Holloway. Christina Hendricks definitely gave it her all in this role, and this definitely reflects in Joan's character, who is easily one of the most compelling people in the entire show.

That being said, one absolutely has to admit that Joan isn't exactly the most consistently-written character, with some aspects of her behavior and personality not really making a ton of sense sometimes.

Link Tank: Why You Should Watch Children of Men This Christmas
Les Fils de l'homme (2006)
Alfonso Cuaron’s Children of Men is the dystopian science fiction movie you should watch this Christmas.

“The best christmas sci-fi movie isn’t very cheery. When thinking about holiday movies, spirited romcoms like Happiest Season and family-friendly fare probably come to mind. Children of Men, Alfonso Cuaron’s gritty, sci-fi masterpiece may not even be on the radar as a go-to Christmas movie, but it should be.”

Does your family hang a pickle on your Christmas tree? Learn about the origin of this curious tradition.

“Every family has its own holiday traditions. Maybe they open Christmas presents after dinner. Perhaps they hang stockings up for their pet. Some might display homemade decorations. Others might hide a Christmas pickle ornament in their tree, as simplemost highlights.”

Adam Sandler Reportedly Developing Original Spy Movie For Netflix
Since making his film debut in 1989’s Going Overboard, Adam Sandler has tackled almost every conceivable genre. Of course, he’s best known for the comedies that turned him into one of the most recognizable stars in the business, which has since evolved into him becoming the biggest draw on the world’s most popular streaming service, but the Happy Madison head honcho is still willing to try new things, even if he doesn’t do it particularly often.

Obviously, most of his non-comedic work comes when his production company aren’t calling the shots, but Sandler is a much more versatile talent than people give him credit for. Dramatic performances in Punch-Drunk Love, Reign Over Me, The Meyerowitz Stories, Men, Women & Children and Uncut Gems were all warmly received, he proved a surprisingly effective romantic lead in Spanglish and Blended, and he even made a buddy action movie in the mid-90s,...

Why Marvel Prioritized a Fantastic Four Reboot Over X-Men
Image
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige made it official at Thursday’s (December 10) four-hour Disney investors call and presentation: the Fantastic Four, Marvel’s First Family, are being rebooted as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far from Home, will helm the Four’s new movie, which Feige says is “being developed.”

Feige didn’t say anything else about the Fantastic Four reboot, but as usual at these kinds of events, it was also about what he didn’t say: that the Four will take precedence over the X-Men in terms of joining the McU.

To be clear, the X-Men will become part of the McU at some point. Feige hinted as much at Comic-Con 2019 when he randomly blurted out the word “mutants” toward the end of Marvel’s big Hall H presentation. But the X-Men were not mentioned at today’s rapid-fire,...

‘Marvel #2’ Review (Marvel Comics)
Image
Written by Various | Art by Various | Published by Marvel Comics

Back in the Spring the first issue of this book slipped out, though I don’t think its launch got quite the reception Marvel was expecting. I think it did Ok, but wasn’t a game changer as such. The book was two things. One, the start of a semi-regular companion book to the series of Marvels: Snapshots one-shots, all of which have been excellent by the way. Two, the chance for Alex Ross to finally set out his original idea that in the past had ended up as the groundbreaking Marvels book. Alex originally had wanted to publish an anthology book set in the Marvel Universe, allowing all sorts of creators to write and draw stories with whatever characters and eras they fancied. Variations on that theme have appeared in the thirty years since Marvels came out (Thirty years!

New Mutants: How Magik and Lockheed Fit Into the X-Men Franchise’s Evolution
Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Henrique Zaga, and Blu Hunt in Les Nouveaux Mutants (2020)
This article contains New Mutants spoilers.

The New Mutants, now available to watch on streaming, is the final outing in Fox’s eclectic X-Men film franchise. While Marvel Studios’ finally confirmed Deadpool 3 is a wild card in how it connects to anything, that’s in Disney’s hands now. Otherwise, we have 13 movies in 20 years celebrating superpowers as a metaphor for real-life prejudice. But only in the end, did the X-Men franchise really start to open up to a universe where mutants aren’t the explanation to everything outlandish.

One of the reasons the Avengers movies worked out so well was the contrast. It was a tech super-genius, a super-soldier from another era, a science-based anger monster, a Norse god, and two hyper-competent humans teaming up against an alien invasion. This felt fresh and right for a comic book universe. For X-Men, they didn’t embrace such an...

‘The Expanse’ Renewed For Sixth & Final Season By Amazon Ahead Of Season 5 Premiere
Image
Exclusive: Amazon Studios has set an end date for The Expanse. The popular sci-fi drama has received an early renewal for Season 6, which will be its last. Not returning for the final season is original cast member Cas Anvar, who faced a slew of sexual misconduct allegations during the summer. The rest of the cast, led by Steven Strait, and longtime Expanse showrunner Naren Shankar will be back.

The Season 6 renewal comes three weeks before the December 16 Season 5 debut on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. I hear Season 6 tentatively is slated to begin production Janusary 20, with the target start date subject to change amid fluid pandemic conditions.

The Alcon-produced The Expanse, based on James S.A. Corey’s best-selling novels, originally was picked up by Syfy, where it aired for three seasons. Following its cancellation in 2018, the show’s army of passionate fans launched a massive Save Our Show campaign,...

Mad Men: 5 Times We Hated Pete Campbell (& 5 Times He Proved To Be Right)
Some Girls (1998)
Mad Men is filled with some deplorable characters, but few (if any) are as bad as Pete Campbell. He often resents this, which manifests itself in over-confidence.

He's also the most squirrely character on the show - unafraid to go tattling to others or to throw a hissy fit when something doesn't go his way. That said, there are moments when he is genuinely in the right - even if those moments are sometimes steeped in his pathetic whining.

Jon Hamm Stars in Eels’ New Video for ‘Are We Alright Again’

Eels superfan Jon Hamm stars in the band’s new video for “Are We Alright Again,” “the feel-good hit of the feel-worst year” off their latest LP Earth to Dora.

In the video, “a typical Eels fan finds solace in Eels music,” the band says. The latest buzz out of the Marvel universe has a Star Wars star joining the Disney+ Marvel TV world! According to Deadline, Oscar Isaac is in talks to play Moon Knight in an upcoming series by the same name. Curious who Moon Knight is and why he's important in the Marvel world? We've got all the answers you need!

Moon Knight's Introduction in the Comics

Moon Knight debuted in Marvel comic books in 1975, when he was introduced as an antagonist in an issue of Werewolf by Night. Five years later, after several smaller appearances - most notably fighting alongside the Defenders at one point - he finally got a fleshed-out backstory. Moon Knight's real identity is Marc Spector, a rabbi's son who first became a boxer, then a Marine, then a mercenary. After a life-changing encounter at an Egyptian archaeological dig (we'll get to that...

The Fantastic Four may well be Marvel’s first family but the X-Men are very much my family. I was a fan of the animated series as a kid and like most people was drawn to Wolverine and the infrequent appearances of Cable. There was something about Rogue that a young me didn’t understand! Things really took off when the first X-Men movie hit, it was my gateway to the comics. I don’t know why I made the leap from the movie to the comics. At the time I didn’t really have any hobbies. I remember being heavy into Star Wars when the new trilogy was in the works, but it ultimately left a bitter taste. The Christmas after the movie came out I got Peter Sanderson’s excellent Ultimate X-Men book. It open my mind to a richer history of content greater than the animated series and the movie.

Proof Disney Is Retconning the McU Now That They Own X-Men?
Image
It's beginning to look like Disney and Marvel Studios are starting to retcon the Marvel Cinematic Universe to introduce the X-Men and other mutants. The Wakanda Files: A Technological Exploration of the Avengers and Beyond book was just released this week and it has been shedding a lot of light on the McU and some of its lesser-known secrets, including why Tony Stark made the Iron Spider suit for Peter Parker and what Shuri has been up to since the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame.

Now, it appears that The Wakanda Files is setting up that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver have been mutants this whole time. Both characters made their McU debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron, at a time when Fox still had the rights to their Marvel properties, including the X-Men. This meant that the words "mutant" or "X-gene" could not be included within the McU. So, the powers...

The Boys Star Aya Cash Is the McU's Jean Grey in X-Men Fan Art

After The Boys star Aya Cash expressed her interest in playing Jean Grey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some awesome new fan art has been drawn up imagining how she might appear in the role. X-Men Actor Tye Sheridan Contemplates the Future of Cyclops in the McU
Image
Despite being the original comic book cinematic universe juggernaut before the McU ever came on to the scene, Fox's X-Men series of movies has had a tough time in the last few years, ending in its ignominious and abrupt demise after X-Men: Dark Pheonix. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Tye Sheridan, who played Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Pheonix, expressed his willingness to revisit the role in future movies.

"I think it depends a lot on the circumstances and the situation, who's involved, and, but of course, I think that the X-Men stands for something that's really meaningful, you know? And, it's about, you know, it's largely about a group of people who haven't been accepted by society and I think that that still has a lot of resonance in our culture today, in society today and that was, for me, I think that's why we all love the X-Men.

Two Forgotten Superhero Movies Just Hit Netflix
Image
When most people think of superhero movies nowadays, it’s either the juggernaut McU or the periodically entertaining Dceu, but the resurgence of such films began several years prior to big budget shared universes. Non-x-Men titles that came out in the decade between the releases of Blade and Iron Man often get forgotten about, unfortunately, but two of these, Superman Returns and Ghost Rider, are now available on Netflix.

Although 2006’s Superman Returns cast the then-unknown Brandon Routh as the Last Son of Krypton, it was intended as a direct sequel to 1980’s Superman II. As such, Routh got the part partially due to his resemblance to Christopher Reeve, displaying the same fusion of humble charm and superpowered indomitability.

As far as the plot goes, during a five year absence when Kal-El was off-world in a failed attempt to locate any more surviving Kryptonians, Lex Luthor was released from...

The Man in the Hat Review
Image
Set in the picturesque landscapes of rural France, The Man in the Hat (played by Game of Thrones star Ciarán Hinds) journeys across the country in his Fiat 500 with nothing but a framed photo of an unknown woman on the passenger’s seat. After witnessing what seems to be something of a criminal nature, he takes off and starts the adventure of a lifetime, however, he is somewhat ‘followed’ by the Five Angry Men in a Citroën Dyane. The cars, along with the jaunty french music, gives quite a nostalgic feel, and brings back memories of when good old Mr Bean was back on our screens in 2007 with Mr Bean’s Holiday. Albeit he had a yellow Mini, and not a blue Fiat 500, but it was nostalgic and similar nonetheless.

Written and directed by John-Paul Davidson and Stephen Warbeck, The Man in the Hat is a weird and wonderful yet wacky piece of comical entertainment.

Ant-Man made a low-key debut in the McU in 2015 with a modestly-scaled and surprisingly funny origin movie disguised as a heist film, then followed that up with a sequel that introduced the superhero's partner The Wasp, before becoming a key part of the Avengers' war against Thanos in Endgame. Now, Peyton Reed, the brains behind both previous Ant-Man films, has revealed in an interview with Collider that Ant-Man 3 is going to be the shrinking superhero's biggest outing to date.

"We are working away through the pandemic. There's some really really really exciting things in store, none of which of course I could speak to you about right now, as is the Marvel way... I think the third Ant-Man movie is going to be a much bigger, more sprawling movie than the first two. It's going to have a very different visual template."

Reed's remarks open up intriguing possibilities for the Ant-Man sequel.

‘The New Mutants’ Film Review: A So-So X-Men Spinoff With Teen Heroes and a Horror Slant
Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Henrique Zaga, and Blu Hunt in Les Nouveaux Mutants (2020)
There are delayed movies, and then there’s “The New Mutants.” Originally slated for an April 2018 release before being pushed back to February of the following year, it was then delayed another six months so as not to compete with “Dark Phoenix.” Then Disney’s acquisition of Fox pushed the film back to April of this year, by which time theaters were already closed due to the pandemic. Now it finally arrives at what could charitably be described as an inopportune moment: in the middle of that same pandemic, which is very much not over.

The first, most important question any potential moviegoer has to ask themselves is whether seeing this or any film is worth the risk inherent in venturing to a movie theater. I won’t presume to answer that question on anyone else’s behalf, but suffice to say that “New Mutants” isn’t exactly a groundbreaking cinematic experience.

New Mutants Planned as Trilogy, Included Mister Sinister
Image
Arriving this week in physical theaters is The New Mutants, the last X-Men movie produced under the 20th Century Fox banner before Disney bought its rival studio and absorbed all its film properties, including the Marvel franchises previously optioned by Fox.

Based on the comics created in 1982 by writer Chris Claremont and artist Bob McLeod, The New Mutants tells the story of five young mutants, each with their own powers. They are being held in a secret facility against their wills and seek a way to escape, all while discovering the extent of their abilities.

While The New Mutants is technically a spin-off of Fox’s main X-Men movies, director and co-writer Josh Boone intended to give it its own feel — specifically, that of a horror movie. But plans were also afoot to connect the fledgling team to the larger universe of the X-Men through the time-honored tradition of the post-credits sequence.

Hugh Jackman Will Consider A Face/Off Remake With Ryan Reynolds On One Condition
Image
The ongoing online battle between Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds has become the stuff of legend, with the two A-list stars never missing out on an opportunity to take shots at each other, and that even includes creating marketing campaigns for their non-Hollywood ventures entirely for the purpose of cracking a joke at the other’s expense.

They might have called several truces in the past, but it seems that their battle will continue to rage on for a while yet. The two X-Men alumni have been friends for well over a decade at this point having met on the set of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and it’s been a source of real frustration for fans that their only big screen collaboration to date has been in one of the worst comic book movies of the 21st Century.

With Jackman having retired from the role of Wolverine, Reynolds’ Deadpool 3...

Homelander as the Next Wolverine? The Boys Star Says One Thing Could Tempt Him
Image
Antony Starr has already demonstrated his affinity for the villainous as the malevolent leader of superhero team The Seven in Amazon's The Boys. Well, should the actor be given the opportunity to continue his comic book career and join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Starr would prefer to switch sides in order to play one of the X-Men's most popular members: Wolverine.

"I would say Wolverine!"

Antony Starr was quick to throw his name out there as a potential choice for the recasting of Wolverine, with Starr ready and waiting to shout out the name of the adamantium-clawed mutant in order to get tongues wagging. Despite his excitement for the character, Starr did acknowledge that there would be a lot of pressure on whoever takes on the role following Hugh Jackman's treasured performance over the last two decades.

"Big shoes to fill, man. Jackman's pretty much put his mark on that,...

The Boys Star Wants To Be The McU’s New Wolverine
There are countless questions surrounding the X-Men’s inevitable debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with rumors already swirling about how the studio will introduce the idea of the mutant gene into a mythology that’s existed for well over a decade at this point, not to mention how they’ll manage to put a fresh spin on characters we’ve already seen star in a dozen movies of wildly inconsistent quality.

Perhaps the single biggest question though is how Marvel are planning to handle Wolverine. Hugh Jackman’s tenure as the mutton-chopped mutant saw the actor become inextricably linked with the role, with his stint establishing his take on Logan as both one of the most enduring marriages of star and character in recent history, as well as one of 21st Century cinema’s most iconic figures.

Anybody that steps into his shoes faces a daunting task, and...

Podtalk: Frank Carr on Virtual & Online YippieFest, Available to Stream Aug. 21-23, 2020
Image
Chicago – This weekend, the performance event called YippieFest – which normally has two stages making show for three days – is going online, with a video presentation of the various acts that give YippieFest its particular reputation. Frank Carr is the founder of YippieFest and the coordinator of the virtual and online version, which will be available at YippieFest.com through Twitch. All the information is available by clicking here.

YippieFest is an offshoot and continuation of the old “Abbie Hoffman Died for Our Sins” festival, which reigned in Wrigleyville for 27 years. Frank Carr wanted to keep the spirit of “Abbie” alive, and moved the newly renamed “YippieFest” to the Northwest side at the Prop Theater (Elston and Addison) and began in 2017. The funky hangout and two stages at Prop was perfect for the blend of theater, music, film, comedy and performance. But like all the theaters and events in Chicago, the...

The True Horror Behind The New Mutants Real-Life Abandoned Asylum
Image
The New Mutants has long been touted as the first X-Men movie to truly embrace the horror aspects of the franchise. During a press conference, director Josh Boone revealed that filming the movie in Medfield State Hospital, which was a functioning asylum at one point, made the work of acting terrified during scenes much easier.

"There are several crewmembers who had weird experiences there, had to be walked to their car at night because they were scared to walk there by themselves after they'd been in the buildings all day. People definitely had weird encounters.""And the groundskeeper that worked there for years had some really awful stories to tell us [about] why we shouldn't walk alone at night. I remember him putting his arm around me, and he's like, 'See that basketball court over there?' I was like, 'Yeah.' He goes, 'The state made that for...

Here’s How Stranger Things’ Dacre Montgomery Could Look As The New Wolverine
For all of the missteps Fox’s X-Men movies made over the years, most fans would agree that they got one thing perfect: Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. After the claw-popping mutant’s big sendoff in Logan and Marvel reclaiming the screen rights to the franchise, there’s a vacancy in the McU’s Wolverine department, but whoever takes on this role is faced with the daunting prospect of following one of the toughest acts in comic book movie history.

If the latest reports are anything to go by, Marvel already has an actor in mind for the new Wolvie, with Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery said to be on the studio’s shortlist. Shorter and less macho than Jackman, Montgomery may not be the obvious choice for Logan, but digital artist Apexform believes he’d be ideal and has now thrown together a concept design to prove it.

In the mock-up,...

Hugh Jackman Reveals Wolverine Audition for X-Men Was Shockingly Short
Image
It has been 20 years since the world was introduced to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in 2000's X-Men. It was a huge shift in the landscape of comic book movies and was the starting point of a run as the iconic character that would last nearly two decades for Jackman. Yet, as it turns out, the audition process to land what any actor would surely refer to as the role of a lifetime was surprisingly brief.

Hugh Jackman recently appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show. During the interview, they showed the actor's original Wolverine audition tape. After viewing it, Jackman provided some insight, explaining that there wasn't even a good chance of him playing the part, meaning he had a rather short audition. Here's what Jackman had to say about it.

"When I walked into that room, I was pretty sure that I wasn't playing the role. It was...

BossLogic Turns Shia Labeouf Into Wolverine, Is It a Better Fit Than Iceman?
Image
Artist BossLogic has given Marvel fans an idea about what Shia Labeouf could look like if he were playing Wolverine. Marvel Studios is currently plotting where to place the X-Men within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though we don't have any information beyond that. At last year's San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed that the former Fox property will be integrated, but he did not go into further details. With that being said, the studio is pretty good at keeping their secrecy, which hardcore fans know all too well.

Here’s How Shia Labeouf Could Look As The McU’s Wolverine
Since Disney took ownership of Wolverine as part of their Fox buyout last year, the future of the character has been up in the air. At the moment, Hugh Jackman remains steadfast in his refusal to return even for a cameo (though the studio are reportedly trying with everything they’ve got to change his mind). But just because Jackman is done doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the character.

It’s been a subject of speculation ever since Logan as to who will succeed him as cinema’s second Wolvie. Admittedly, some fan picks are more likely than others and this particularly left-field suggestion falls firmly into the “others” category. As you can see below, this piece of fan art imagines what Shia Labeouf, yes, Shia Labeouf, would look like with the famous claws.

Fans can have their fantasies, too, alright? Especially fantasies that no one else shares.

Marvel Quietly Removes Black Lives Matter Logo From Spider-Man Cover
The Walt Disney Company likes to trumpet their progressive credentials at every opportunity. For example, when two women kissed somewhere in the background of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, they billed it as a big step forward for representation. These tiny gestures have often frustrated fans though, as they’re quite rightly argued as being inconsequential additions designed to tick a ‘woke’ box.

Still, Disney did come out in support of Black Lives Matter in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. They posted a message saying they stand with “the entire Black community” and pledged $5 million to BLM-related causes.

All of which makes it a bit of a head-scratcher that they quietly erased the iconic BLM fist from the cover of 2019 comic Miles Morales: Spider-Man #9. The symbol has long been used to represent Civil Rights movements and since the murder of Michael Brown in 2014 has become associated with BLM protests.

Here’s How Shia Labeouf Could Look As The McU’s Iceman
Over the weekend, we heard that Marvel Studios is keen to find a role for Shia Labeouf in the McU, with one part that they’re currently considering him for being Iceman. As the former Transformers star isn’t the first person you’d jump to as the perfect fit for Bobby Drake, the news has been hotly debated on social media. But what could Labeouf look like as the famed X-Men member?

Digital artist Mizuri has created some artwork that imagines the actor suiting up as Drake. Seen below, the piece dresses Labeouf in a Fox-style all-black combat suit, gives him a frosty glare and transforms his left side into ice. Plus, he’s depicted as standing in front of the iconic “Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters” sign. All things considered, he doesn’t look too bad here.

Shia Labeouf Is Iceman in X-Men Fan Art as McU Casting Rumors Run Wild
Image
A new rumor that Shia Labeouf is wanted by Marvel to play Iceman in the McU's X-Men reboot has been running wild all over the Internet. There is absolutely no truth to this casting rumor, with Disney and Marvel not responding to these allegations. Despite this news coming from a disputable and very unreliable source, that hasn't stopped many legitimate news sites from picking it up. And now, some of our best and brightest artists are imagining what Shia Labeouf might look like set loose in the McU. Mizuri, one of our favorite artists on the Internet, has taken it upon itself to offer up this slick tease of what is definitely, at least right now, not happening over at Marvel Studios.

Been hearing rumours that Shia Labeouf could be playing Iceman in a future McU X-Men reboot. Could definitely be really cool! Here’s a little mockup I did,...

Arrowverse Star Wants To Play Iceman In Marvel’s X-Men Reboot
As a founding member of the X-Men, Iceman has been an integral part of the team’s comic book history for over half a century, but on the big screen, it never felt like the character was given much to do besides acting as Rogue’s doe-eyed love interest. Shawn Ashmore tried his best with the limited material that he was given, but despite starring in four of the Fox movies, his Bobby Drake never managed to leave much of an impression.

With the mutants set to rebooted as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the smartest thing Kevin Feige and his team could do to differentiate their approach to Charles Xavier’s students from the twelve-movie Fox franchise is to focus on heroes that we either haven’t seen in live-action before, or were severely underused by Fox.

While the vast majority of the speculation has focused on how they’ll handle recasting Wolverine,...

Here’s How Michael Fassbender Could Look As The Dceu’s Reverse-Flash
Humor me on this one. There’s a history of actors crossing the divide from one superhero franchise to another. For instance, Michael Keaton starred as the Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s Batman movies, before battling Tom Holland’s Spider-Man as Vulture in the McU.

Similarly, Christian Bale is set to make the same jump from The Dark Knight to Marvel baddie in Thor: Love and Thunder. So, why not get behind Michael Fassbender to play The Flash’s arch nemesis Reverse-Flash? He’s already established his supervillain credentials as Magneto in the X-Men universe. Plus, he has a perfect evil smile for it.

Or at least, that’s what Instagram artist @Spdrmnkyxxiii pointed out when sharing their fan realization of the concept. See below for their take on how Fassbender would look as the Reverse-Flash:

X-Men Trends on Twitter as Fans Pick Their 5 Favorite Mutants
Image
The X-Men have been a pop culture staple for decades, much before the first live-action X-Men came out in 2000. In those decades, the roster of the mutant superhero team has seen many changes and evolutions, and every fan has a set of favorite heroes that they want to see on the team. Comic book artist Gail Simone recently started trending #My5XMen, asking fans to weigh in with their dream 5-member X-Men team.

"Okay, I have a Second question of the day, This Is Unprecedented. ;) There's a lot of mutants. You get to pick Five mutants to be the X-men for your dream comic. They can be from any era. Who do you pick? Xavier is a freebie, so 5 others. Please use hashtag #My5XMen."

It did not take long for fans to start putting forward suggestions for what the ideal 5-member X-Men lineup would look like. Filmmaker...

Shia Labeouf Reportedly Eyed For Big Role In McU X-Men Reboot
Shia Labeouf may only be 34 years old, but he’s been working solidly for over 20 years now and already finds himself in the midst of the fourth distinctive stage of his constantly-evolving career.

Having broken out as a child star and appeared in the likes of Even Stevens, The X-Files, ER and Holes, he became a fixture in big budget box office hits after leading Michael Bay’s first three Transformers movies, Eagle Eye and Disturbia, along with snagging supporting roles in I, Robot, Constantine, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

From there, he turned his back on mainstream fare and frequently found himself in the headlines for his bizarre and eccentric behavior, before reinventing himself yet again as an acclaimed dramatic talent that always fully immerses himself into his characters. In fact, he’s even been labeled as the finest actor of his generation.
