This article contains spoilers for "Daredevil: Born Again" season 1, episode 2.
"Daredevil: Born Again" season 1, episode 2 introduces a brand new street-level vigilante superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, Hector "White Tiger" Ayala (Kamar de los Reyes) finds himself in a world of trouble when a subway station confrontation between two violent plain-clothes police officers and the civilian-garbed Hector causes one of the cops to fatally stumble in front of an oncoming train ... and Hector is accused of his murder. Fortunately, a certain inactive secret vigilante just so happens to be a lawyer and offers to take Hector's seemingly impossible case.
The episode dives deep into the courtroom side of Matt "Daredevil" Murdock (Charlie Cox)'s life, and the tactics he's willing to use in order to prove to the world what his super senses have already confirmed to him: Hector is innocent. It's an episode full of calamity, but before the story even begins,...

Bill Murray slammed Bob Woodward’s 1986 book “Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi” as “completely inaccurate” to the point that he began to wonder if “they framed Nixon” during an interview with Joe Rogan published on Saturday.
In comments that begin around the 1:15 mark, Murray said that the alleged inaccuracies in the book had him half-convinced “they framed Nixon.” He said he read “five pages of ‘Wired'” and “all of a sudden, I went, ‘Oh my God, if this is what he writes about my friend that I’ve known, you know, for half my adult life, which is completely inaccurate, talking to the people of the outer, outer circle, getting the story — what the hell could they have done to Nixon?'”
Murry continued in this vein and added, “I just felt like if he did this to my friend like this, and...

Long before the Roys of New York or the Sopranos of New Jersey, one family dominated television: the Ewings of "Dallas." The genre-shaking soap opera aired for 14 seasons from 1978 to 1991, chronicling the dramatic, twist-filled epic saga of the Ewing Oil dynasty.
On a picturesque ranch in Dallas, Texas, the family used their money, connections, and cunning to bat away threats from outside and within. Whatever threats that rival oilman, spurned lovers, or wannabe politicians think they can pose, "Dallas" always reminds us that there's nothing stronger -- or more dangerous -- than family.
Over 30 years have passed since the final episode of the original series, and there's been well over 10 years of silence from this world following a brief revival on TNT. As such, many are curious about what happened to the cast of "Dallas," so we tracked down as much information about its massive ensemble cast as we could.

If you don’t watch Marvel movies, then you don’t know Bucky Barnes, which means you only know Sebastian Stan as the also-indie actor behind films like 2024’s “A Different Man” and “The Apprentice.” Both movies have put him in the awards race, and possibly the Oscar running, especially after his grimly funny, pathos-spiked turn as a self-loathing, out-of-options actor with neurofibromatosis in Aaron Schimberg’s “A Different Man” won him a surprise Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. That night, he was also nominated for Best Actor in a Drama for “The Apprentice,” where he plays a ’70s New York-era Donald Trump.
Had scheduling gone a different path, he would’ve starred in Brady Corbet’s also-Oscar-contending “The Brutalist,” but Stan had plenty on his plate last year and into this one, setting him up for his biggest awards season run yet. His transformative...

As the new year unfolded, Los Angeles faced the terrifying fury of wildfires—powerful enough to leave even the most secure Hollywood mansions trembling. By the time it was over, more than 30,000 residents were forced out of their homes, and California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency. James Woods, the Oscar-nominated actor known for his sharp-witted roles and controversial opinions, saw his own Pacific Palisades home reduced to ashes.

Before we start lighting candles or sending thoughts and prayers, let’s remember this isn’t exactly the first time Woods has made headlines. Back in 2017, Amber Tamblyn, actress, and outspoken activist, leveled a serious claim against Woods.

Well, if you’re reading this, it means that you’ve survived yet another presidential election.
You might be thrilled with last night’s results, or you might be banging your head against a wall, wondering how you’re gonna survive the next four years.
Either way, at least we can all take solace in the fact that the quadrennial barrage of panhandling text messages has now come to an end.
(Dreamworks Pictures/20th Century Fox)
And now that you can once again turn on your TV without being bombarded by mudslinging political ads, what better time to revisit some of the best presidential biopics?
Politicians and pollsters might tell you they know what the future holds, but that picture is always a murky one.
Thankfully, we can always look to America’s past for encouraging reminders of challenges we’ve overcome and the heroes who have risen to the occasion.

The late, great Larry Hagman had an extensive filmography, but he's by far best known for playing J.R. Ewing in the primetime soap opera, Dallas (1978-1991), which is responsible for much of his net worth. The actor began his career on stage in summer stock productions. As he made his way to Broadway, Hagman also picked up small television parts. He got his big break when he was cast as Captain Anthony Nelson, Barbara Eden's love interest, in I Dream of Jeannie (1965-1970). But it was his role as Dallas' villainous oil baron J.R. Ewing that made him a star.
Hagman was born in Fort, Worth Texas to district attorney Benjamin Hagman and Mary Martin, who would go on to become a Broadway actress after Hagman's birth. Upon graduating high school in Texas, Hagman followed in his mother's footsteps and pursued acting. He enrolled in Bard College...

The best Tony Goldwyn movies and TV shows include Oscar-winning films and one of the most successful television shows in history. Goldwyn has a strong history in Hollywood: His father is film producer Samuel Goldwyn Jr., son of movie mogul Samuel Goldwyn, and his maternal grandparents were playwright Sidney Howard and actress Clare Eames. Tony studied acting at the Hb Studio in New York City and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He got his first movie role as a victim in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives.
He enjoyed his breakout in Ghost, which was just the start for the talented actor. Over his career, he got some small roles on TV in shows like Designing Women and also voiced the lead character in the Disney animated movie Tarzan. However, it was when he picked up a role in Law & Order: Criminal Intent that he started to find quality roles,...

The Sixth Sense may have been a monster hit, but it inadvertently killed its own studio brand! Here’s how Disney’s mega-hit ended Hollywood Pictures!
Twenty-five years after its debut, much has been written about The Sixth Sense and its impact. One thing overlooked is how almost no one in Hollywood expected this supernatural thriller to make an impact. Indeed, in their annual Summer Movie Preview issue in 1999, Entertainment Weekly didn’t even mention Sense.
Sure, it had a big-name star in Bruce Willis, but it was an odd film from a completely unknown writer/director being released in August, traditionally the dumping ground for bad movies. It debuted to $26.6 million, then the highest August release. Thanks to good reviews, strong word of mouth and, of course, that now-famous twist ending, Sense became the second highest-grossing movie of 1999, $672.8 million worldwide. It earned multiple Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and director,...

Three-time Oscar winner Oliver Stone has courted controversy with a series of technically ambitious, rabble rousing political dramas, chronicling the highs and lows of American history. But how many of his titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back at all 20 of his narrative films, ranked worst to best (not including documentaries).
Born in 1946, Stone served in the Vietnam War before enrolling in NYU film school. He first came to prominence as a screenwriter, winning an Oscar for penning “Midnight Express” (Best Original Screenplay in 1978) before writing “Conan the Barbarian” (1982), “Scarface” (1983) and “Year of the Dragon” (1985). During this same period, he directed the low-budget horror films “Seizure” (1974) and “The Hand” (1981).
He emerged as a an A-list director when he was 40 years old with a pair of acclaimed war dramas released in 1986: “Salvador” and “Platoon.” Both earned him Best Original Screenplay nominations, while “Platoon,” which was based on his...

Exclusive: Last time we heard from Oliver Stone, he was in Cannes for a special screening of Lula, his documentary on the incredible comeback of Brazilian leader Luiz Inacio da Silva and his reemergence from a prison cell to the presidency when it was exposed by a hacker that he was the target of an effort to bring Lula down. Anthony Hopkins, one of Hollywood's most prolific actors, has reacted to presidential candidate Donald Trump's comments about the fictional character Hannibal Lecter. Hopkins' performance as Lecter, the pivotal antagonist of The Silence of the Lambs (as well as the other films based on the books by Thomas Harris), shot him into stardom in 1992 when he won an Academy Award for Best Actor. Even though more than 30 years have passed, it remains Hopkins' most influential performance to date and is often remembered by modern audiences.
That includes none other than Donald Trump. The former President of the United States, who's running again this year, went on record a few months ago with yet another one of his controversial claims. During one of his frequent rallies, Trump said the following: "The late, great Hannibal Lecter! He's a wonderful man. He oftentimes would have a friend over for dinner. Remember the last scene?...

“Now I am ready to become a god,” says Anthony Hopkins as the Emperor Vespasian in the Roland Emmerich-directed Those About to Die.
Of course, as ruler of Rome in the year 79 Ce, the victor of the infamous Year of the Four Emperors was for all practical purposes a god on Earth. Which makes the portrayal of the former general who built what we now call the Colosseum by an 86-year-old Welshman widely considered our greatest living actor all the more fitting.

Brainy political lightning rod Oliver Stone isn’t making feature films anymore. Sure, he’d love to add a 21st to his 20 films to date; he just can’t find backers. His alternate route, like many other directors today, from fellow Cannes entrant Ron Howard (“Jim Henson: Idea Man”) to Martin Scorsese, is documentaries.
Stone has churned out a career total of ten, including recent 2021 Cannes entry “JFK Revisited” (Showtime) and 2022 eco-doc “Nuclear” (Abramorama). His latest, “Lula,” marks a move to the left from his much-criticized recent portraits of dictators such as Cuba’s Fidel Castro (HBO’s “Comandante”) and Russia’s Vladimir Putin (Showtime’s four-part “The Putin Interviews”).
Since his start as a filmmaker in the 1970s, the Yale-grad-turned-Vietnam-vet, now 77, has leaned into political fiction, from “Salvador,” “Wall Street,” and “W.,” to Best Director Oscar-winners “Platoon” and “Born on the Fourth of July.” His last Oscar nomination came in 1996, for “Nixon,...

Chicago – One of Chicago’s icon theater actors … Michael Shannon … is performing again in town, in the company that he co-founded. Red Orchid Theatre presents Michael Shannon and Travis A. Knight in the World Premiere of “Turret” by Levi Holloway, now at the Chopin Theatre through June 9, 2024. For tickets and info, click Turret.
Two men (Shannon and Knight) survive in a facility deep underground somewhere in the wild woods of the Pacific Northwest, hiding away from something terrible from the outside. Ensnared in a relentless loop of endless tomorrows, they discover the wolf isn’t at the door, it’s already inside, waiting in the creeping darkness all around them. “Turret” is an excavation of masculinity, love, loss and isolation, and a claustrophobic carnival of carnage, carrier pigeons, cribbage, whiskey, music, mischief and mayhem.

Sir Anthony Hopkins won the Oscar in 2020 and received his sixth Academy Award nomination for “The Father.” With his impressive body of work, it’s somewhat stunning to realize he was 54 years old before he became a household name.
Hopkins was born on New Year’s Eve in 1937 to working-class parents in Wales. He was inspired by fellow Welsh actor Richard Burton to study drama. Young Hopkins found success in theater, eventually becoming an understudy for Laurence Olivier, successfully taking over when Olivier became ill. Although his career was thriving in the theater, Hopkins decided to try his luck in television and films, and soon received his break in 1968 playing Richard the Lionheart in “The Lion in Winter.” Hopkins worked steadily on both the small and big screens, often receiving praise for his work. Scoop is a well-made but hard-to-watch film, believe me that’s a good thing. The Netflix film does everything right from its pacing to its performances giving us an insight into the subject and people behind one of the most scandalous things ever to come out of the British Royal family.
Directed by Philip Martin, Scoop sheds some light on what went on behind the scenes of Prince Andrew‘s News Night interview with Emily Maitlis which was later described as less a car crash than “a plane crashing into an oil tanker, causing a tsunami, triggering a nuclear explosion.” Prince Andrew was a close friend of Jeffrey Epstein and was also accused of molesting an underage girl, but he is still walking freely.

MacFadyen shines in romantic period dramas, carving a niche in sensitive male roles from youth. His portrayal as Tom in Succession elevated his U.S. presence and may define his legacy. MacFadyen's performances in Frost/Nixon, Wuthering Heights, and Little Dorrit showcase his diverse talent.
The British actor Matthew MacFadyen has made a name for himself in television shows and movies alike, but only certain performances are highlighted as his best. Similarly to many other actors from the U.K., MacFadyen has a background in theater, which has greatly influenced the way he performs his on-screen characters. Many of MacFadyen's early roles include stints in period romance films and TV shows based on classic works of literature, which stand out as examples of his typecast in his youth.
However, it's clear after the prevalence of Succession and the many accolades he received for his performance, MacFadyen has many more years of excellent work ahead of him.

Sir Anthony Hopkins has had one of Hollywood’s longest and most impressive careers. He’s played iconic characters and received dozens of awards. Now, the Welsh actor turns his focus toward a new project, Eyes in the Trees, based on The Island of Dr. Moreau, a novel by science fiction pioneer H.G. Wells.
Per Deadline, the actor, partly known for his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs, has signed on to portray an important scientist in the film. Hopkins’ character is a brilliant geneticist whose human experimentation went sour and, as a result, had his government funding cut off and was forced into isolation from the world. Afterward, a pair of filmmakers and their crew set out on an expedition which yields unexpected and dangerous results that threaten all humankind.

Political thrillers based on true events add to the shared cultural memory of significant political moments. The best political thrillers balance entertainment with a deeper message or moral stance on real events. While dramatizing for cinematic effect, these movies draw audiences into the complexities of historical narratives.
Political thrillers are always unbelievable, but the best movies base their plots on true stories, making them all the more shocking. Often involving corruption, intrigue, and violence, there's no shortage of real events for these films to draw inspiration from. Taking on stories of such magnitude is difficult for both filmmakers and actors because they represent real people and the events of their lives. It's a responsibility and a privilege that is respected in the most successful movies of the genre.

One of the greatest crime movies of all time, "The French Connection" is William Friedkin's gritty drama based on a true story. Gene Hackman stars as Detective Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle, a no-nonsense, rule-breaking cop who gets caught up investigating a case in which the Italian mob is bringing drugs into America with the help of a French heroin-smuggling syndicate. But this isn't an open-and-shut case. The lawmen are seemingly foiled at every turn, and things end on a shocking, bleak note. It's an amazing movie with one of the best chase sequences ever captured on film. "The French Connection" was released nearly 53 years ago, which means many of its cast members have left us, along with director Friedkin, who died last year. But a few are still around. So here are the only major actors still alive from "The French Connection."

One may resist celebrity culture, but most people have at least a few actors from pop culture history that mean something to them, whether they're from the silver screen or the flickering box.
Actors know how to spark our emotions and suspend our disbelief. They embody our favorite stories and the visions of our favorite filmmakers. The stars of film and television have the privilege of immortalizing themselves in certain times and places. But it is not just themselves that they immortalize. In their best projects, they capture many complexities of emotion and culture that are relevant to millions. Steve McQueen and his Mustang in "Bullet," Warren Beatty and his freewheeling libido in "Shampoo," Anthony Hopkins and his empathetic presidential turn in "Nixon" -- for better or worse, actors color our memories of the past in both trivial and important ways.

Kevin Dunn played similar roles in Transformers and Small Soldiers, portraying frustrated fathers trying to connect with their teenage sons. Small Soldiers served as an inspiration for the Transformers movie, with both featuring elements of military satire, a bumbling teenage protagonist, and a romance subplot. Although Small Soldiers under-performed at the box office, it still had an impact on Bay's Transformers, with Kevin Dunn playing almost identical roles in both films.
While actor Kevin Dunn has made plenty of movies, the Transformers supporting star played a role that was bizarrely similar to his part in Michael Bay’s 2007 blockbuster some nine years earlier. It is not very uncommon for actors to get typecast in a role; plenty of actors have built careers playing specific archetypes or character roles. However, it is striking when an actor carves out a bizarrely specific, unique niche.

Henry Kissinger, who as national security advisor and secretary of state for Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford became one of the most influential, famous and controversial diplomats of the 20th century, died Wednesday in his home in Connecticut. He was 100.
A consultant to almost every President of the United States since leaving the State Department in 1977, Kissinger was instrumental in the historic opening to China in 1972. He was also a hawk during the Vietnam War, a master strategist in geopolitics and Beltway power, and an architect of Middle East shuttle diplomacy. With a realpolitik legacy that is as complicated as any American statesman, the pragmatic and cynical German-born Kissinger also was a much lauded and criticized recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 for his role in ending the war in Southeast Asia.

Oliver Stone is just the latest Club Random guest to join Bill Maher and discuss dangerous conspiracy theories. Stone was coy, but the ultimate effect of his language trends toward support of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, and attacks against Israel and America.

One of the most acclaimed movies of 1998 is “Pleasantville,” starring Tobey Maguire, Reese Witherspoon, Jeff Daniels, William H. Macy and Joan Allen. Written and directed by four-time Oscar nominee Gary Ross, the film is a creative fantasy drama about two 1990s teen siblings who are transported to a 1950s family sitcom and then slowly begin to transform the dull, colorless world into someplace better. Released 25 years ago in October 1998, “Pleasantville” only grossed about $50 million worldwide on a $60 million budget. But it did end up receiving three Oscar nominations. Read on for Gold Derby’s tribute to the “Pleasantville” 25th anniversary.
Most of the nation’s critics gave enthusiastic notices to “Pleasantville,” including Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times, who picked it as the second-best film of 1998 and wrote that it “is the kind of parable that encourages us to re-evaluate the good old days and take a fresh look at...

Anthony Hopkins takes on the role of Sigmund Freud in "Freud's Last Session," engaging in a captivating debate on the existence of God. The film is based on the stage play and Armand Nichol's book, drawing from the fascinating conversation between Freud and C.S. Lewis. Hopkins' impressive career spans from acclaimed movies like "The Silence of the Lambs" to major franchises such as Marvel and Transformers, making Freud another intriguing challenge for the celebrated actor.
Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins never gets tired of leaving his mark on film history, and will soon play one of the most influential men of the 19th and 20th centuries in Freud's Last Session, the new film by Matt Brown (The Man Who Knew Infinity). Based on the stage play of the same name that has already captivated the world of theater (which at the same time is based on Armand Nichol's book The...

While John Carpenter's Vampires did divide critics upon release, the horror-action movie’s cast went on to some pretty impressive roles. Vampires is something of an anomaly in the legendary horror filmmaker’s canon. An offbeat blend of Western tropes, vampire lore, and gory horror, Vampires follows a group of hard-drinking, foul-mouthed vampire hunters led by Jack Crow. Crow was raised by the Catholic Church to kill vampires and assembled a team of hyper-competent killers, but almost all of them were wiped out shortly after the movie’s opening scene by the main villain, Jan Valek.
While Vampires isn’t John Carpenter’s best horror movie, it is a fun genre mash-up that contains a few memorable scenes. While Jack’s best friend Tony takes Katrina, a prostitute with a psychic connection to Valek, hostage, Jack is forced to pair up with the well-meaning but inexperienced Father Adam Guiteau to take down the centuries-old vampire.

Above: 1973 New York Film Festival poster designed by Niki de Saint Phalle. The 61st edition of the New York Film Festival, which opens tonight, has 32 films in its Main Slate, fifteen films in its Spotlight section, ten films and seven collections of shorts in the Currents sidebar, and eleven revivals. That's over 60 feature films. Fifty years ago, in 1973, the 11th edition of the festival had just eighteen feature films and nineteen shorts. Just like this year’s opener—Todd Haynes’s May December—1973’s opening night film, François Truffaut’s Day for Night, had premiered four months earlier at the Cannes Film Festival. And as with this year’s festival, the 1973 edition opened, fifty years and one day ago exactly, in the shadow of an artists' strike. Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians had been picketing the New York Philharmonic outside Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, where the festival was taking place,...

Star Trek: Voyager premiered in January 1995 as the flagship for the nascent United Paramount Network. The network didn't survive, but the show completed seven lively seasons and 172 episodes, joining the ranks of other classic Star Trek series of the era. The show trapped its crew in the Delta Quadrant: decades from the nearest Starfleet outpost, they were left to find a way home. It was intended to return to The Original Series' loose idea of a starship left to its own devices deep in unexplored space.
Today, Voyager is noted for taking big creative risks, resulting in both classic and risible episodes. But through it all, the sterling cast and unique characters always provided a strong reason to tune in. Below is a breakdown of the ten main members of the Voyager's crew.
