As soon as you hear their celestial harmonies, you need to find them.
If you happened to be looking for them on a cold afternoon in February 2024, you would have found the band of four siblings sitting in the Rolling Stone offices, strumming acoustic guitars. Their layered voices reverberated against the glass walls, completely transforming the space into an ethereal stage of their own. With each note, they instantly captivated anyone who walked by. They were introducing themselves as Infinity Song — and they were about to have a banner year.

“9-1-1: Nashville” has found its leading man in Chris O’Donnell.
The “NCIS: Los Angeles” actor joins the ABC series as Captain Don Sharpe, who is described as “a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son,” according to official character description. While Don is described as a “devoted husband and family man,” “he has his secrets,” the description teases.
Other details regarding the plot remain under wraps, though the procedural will follow the lives of first responders in the capital of Tennessee.
O’Donnell is one of the first cast members to board “9-1-1: Nashville,” which landed a series order at ABC in late February. “9-1-1: Nashville,” which marks the third series in the “9-1-1” franchise, hails from 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television, with Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear and Rashad Raisani serving as executive producers and writers.

In the decade since its release, Cartoon Network's Over the Garden Wall has become an autumnal cult classic, inspiring yearly rewatches from fans longing to return to its detailed fantasy world. The 10-part miniseries celebrated the 10th anniversary of its November 3rd, 2014 premiere, pairing with Aardman Animation to release a brand-new stop-motion animated short featuring original voice actors Elijah Wood, Collin Dean, and Melanie Lynskey as a thank you to the fans who have continued to revisit the show year after year. While there are many reasons why Over the Garden Wall has become so beloved, from its stellar original soundtrack to its sumptuous animation, one of the most important elements that keeps people coming back is its detailed, immersive storytelling.
Series creator Patrick McHale purposefully kept the world of the series, called The Unknown, vague enough to suggest a whole universe beyond the boundaries of the story he chose to tell.

This post contains spoilers for "Joker: Folie à Deux."
In 1992, Bruce Timm and Paul Dini created Harley Quinn for "Batman: The Animated Series," spinning a strange, complicated arc about a former psychiatrist being drawn to and manipulated by one of the most unpredictable criminals among Batman's rogues gallery: The Joker. Harley's actions, although seemingly stemming from personal agency, are impossible to dissect without the horribly abusive tint that colors her dynamic with the Joker, who exploits her empathy-based affection for him to use her as a discardable sidekick.
Harley's devotion to the clown prince never faltered, even when he was relentlessly cruel to her, repeatedly fed her to hyenas, physically assaulted her, and otherwise treated her like an object devoid of personhood. Every time Harley came close to acknowledging this abuse, which can be very complex and difficult for an abuse victim, Joker would manage to manipulate her with ease,...

"Batman: The Animated Series" wound up being as definitive an account of the Dark Knight as its title suggested. So when a new Batman cartoon finally came afterwards, it was destined to never escape the shadow of "Btas." But "The Batman" (which aired from 2004 to 2008) made a noble effort and remains one of the more unique spins on the Caped Crusader.
"The Batman," developed by Michael Goguen and Duane Capizzi, was the first animated Batman in 12 years that was unconnected to the DC Animated Universe (The shared setting that began with "Batman: The Animated Series" and concluded with "Justice League Unlimited").
Bruce Wayne in "The Batman" was voiced by Rino Romano, and Joker by Kevin Michael Richardson, rather than the beloved Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as the Joker duo. Bruce Timm modeled "Batman: The Animated Series" on the Fleischer Studios Superman cartoons, while Jeff Matsuda gave Gotham City an anime makeover.

Batman: The Animated Series is a classic for a reason. The DC series is known for its colorful cast of characters, creative lore changes, and empathetic writing, among other aspects of the show. Even 30 years later, Batman: The Animated Series is held up as one of the best adaptations of Batman. First airing in 1992, Batman: The Animated Series ran for 85 episodes on Fox Kids, and it was reimagined as The New Batman Adventures for Kids WB in 1997. The latter was set after a time skip and had a stronger focus on supporting characters and the Dcau.
When revisiting the series, both iterations are often grouped as a singular show by fans due to being in the same continuity, though they can be watched separately. Viewing both in succession is, however, the best way to get the full story, a benefit that viewers in 1992 did not have. Regardless, the series is remembered fondly for a reason,...

Harley Quinn's introduction in Batman: The Animated Series forever changed DC, leading to her immense popularity and solo projects. Mr. Freeze's tragic backstory in Batman: The Animated Series redefined the Batman villain, impacting comics, movies, and video games. Kevin Conroy's portrayal of Batman in the series set a standard for the character's voice acting, becoming a definitive version of The Dark Knight.

Batman: Caped Crusader breaks Tas rules by featuring Batman using guns, contrary to his moral code. The show targets a more mature audience, includes references to alcohol and drugs, and shifts focus away from Batman. Unlike Tas, Caped Crusader highlights other characters like Barbara Gordon and Renee Montoya investigating crime in Gotham.
While Batman: Caped Crusader has been labeled a spiritual successor to Batman: The Animated Series, the show has strayed from some of the biggest rules of Tas. In 1992, Batman: Tas set the new standard for an adapted version of Batman. Up to that point, there had been the Adam West show of the 1960s with colorful settings and characters, and Tim Burton's Batman starring Michael Keaton, but the tone of the on-screen versions and the comics had a wide gap.

Lady Gaga will grace the big screen in an unexpected manner for Todd Phillips’ musical sequel, “Joker: Folie À Deux.”
The filmmaker revealed in an interview published Thursday that Gaga’s portrayal of fan-favorite comic book character Harley Quinn is completely her “own interpretation.”
“She became the way how [Charles] Manson had girls that idolized him. The way that sometimes these [imprisoned murderers] have people that look up to them,” Phillips told Empire Magazine. “There are things about Harley in the movie that were taken from the comic books, but we took it and molded it to the way we wanted it to be.”
The Oscar-nominated “A Star is Born” actress told the outlet that her portrayal of Joker’s psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum was “unlike anything [she had] ever done before.”
Gaga noted that she had to strip away her star power to fully embody Lee’s voice.

Warner Bros has released the first real look at Todd Philips’ sequel to 2019’s Joker – Joker: Folie A Deux.
When Joker released in 2019 it became one of the most talked about films of the year, not to mention one of the most commercially successful. Todd Philips’ take on the Clown Prince of Crime’s origin story featured an absorbing central performance from Joaquin Phoenix that would earn the actor an Oscar, adding another memorable cinematic interpretation of the popular character to what is becoming an increasingly long list.
Given that the first film grossed over a billion dollars at the global box office, Warner Bros was very keen to secure Philips and Phoenix for a sequel.
Enter Joker: Folie a Deux then: a film that looks to be taking some bold creative choices, much like its predecessor.

When we recently compiled our list of science fiction movies based on true stories, one film that didn’t make the list was Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer. After all, the technology behind the nuclear bomb can no longer be said to be undiscovered, sadly. Nonetheless, Oppenheimer remains the archetypal science fiction story—one about a mad scientist who devises a new machine that changes the world through terrible unforeseen consequences. He is an an American Prometheus, yes, but also a regular Yankee Frankenstein. More than that though, by ushering in the nuclear age, Oppenheimer may have lit the fuse on the genre of cinematic science fiction.

A legend is no longer with us, for Arleen Sorkin has died at the age of 67. The news was first reported by voice actor Neil Kaplan and later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. She is survived by her husband and their two sons. DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn shared a tribute to Sorkin on Instagram, and her old friend and co-star Mark Hamill wrote: "Not just a wonderful talent, but a truly wonderful person. I'm grateful not only to have worked with her, but to have been her friend."
Mrs. Sorkin is most remembered for being the original voice of the DC Comics character Harley Quinn. She played the part across 17 years, beginning in "Batman: The Animated Series" in 1992 and for the last time in the 2009 video game, "Batman: Arkham Asylum." We'll talk about this part of her legacy soon, but first, let's be clear — Sorkin was not a one-trick pony.

Harley Quinn has come a long way in her history with DC Comics. Today, the beloved antihero has become as well-known and recognized as the Trinity composed of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman because of her interesting character and explosive personality. In fact, it could be argued that she has become the fourth DC pillar, seeing as her recognition and popularity have led her to expanding beyond the comics and getting her own TV series and movies.
However, all this success certainly didn't happen overnight. The 30-year-old character wasn't always the quick-witted crimefighter fans think of now. She's actually been through her fair share of evolution in various media that helped to round her out as a character and develop a fan base that continues to love her to this day. A variant cover doubles as the perfect tribute to Harley Quinn's earliest days in Batman: The Animated Series. Two tattoo sleeves highlight Harley's animated origin and show just how far she's come since the beloved animated program.
While Harley is a core part of the DC Universe now, she's one of the few characters that actually originated in another medium. Harley's debut was in the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Joker's Favor". Though not a character from the comics, she became a fan-favorite and appeared in fourteen episodes, including the iconic "Mad Love" episode. The positive reception to Harley in the series eventually led to her joining the DC Universe proper in Batman: Harley Quinn. Since then, Harley has grown considerably as a character. Not only has she ditched the Joker for good, but she's also formed a healthy relationship with Poison Ivy and has even found herself fighting alongside the Justice League occasionally.

Joker: Folie à Deux will include a major change to Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn, as set photos confirm a recent rumor from the movie. The sequel to the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all-time, Joker 2 introduces Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn as a co-protagonist alongside Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck. Phoenix won the Best Actor Oscar for his turn in the first movie, and the sequel appears to be giving its actors interesting material, with Arkham Asylum on fire in recent set photos, and a major change on the way for Harley Quinn.
On Twitter, Gagaimages shared new Joker: Folie à Deux set photos, with one particular shot picturing a newspaper from the movie that features Gaga's "Harleen Frances Quinzel" in her mugshot for Arkham.

All comic characters evolve with the times, but few have grown from such humble beginnings to become an icon in quite the same way as Harley Quinn. Initially created for "Batman: The Animated Series" simply to add a female henchperson to Joker's minions, Harley has since not only grown increasingly popular, but has also become quite a symbol of hope. She's empowered both the LGBTQ+ community and survivors of domestic violence, as well as countless others who could relate to her resilience, humor, heart, and frankly, how bonkers she can be. Harley has also taken an exciting journey from villain to antihero that is so often reserved for male characters. Her toxic relationship with Joker may have been what once defined her, but when people discuss the character in 2022, Mr. J is barely a footnote. In fact, Harley Quinn has become one of the most compelling of DC's comic characters all on her own.

A bookending pair of calving scenes, an hour apart and starkly reversed in perspective, tell the whole story in “Cow,” Andrea Arnold’s tough, full-immersion documentary on the life cycle of a bovine servant. In the first, we watch in challenging close-up as a calf, glazed in gelatinous afterbirth, emerges feet first from the womb of her mother, a veteran dairy cow named Luma who has been through this ordeal many times before. The camera is locked on Luma’s rear, eerily detached from her moos of discomfort, as if she were little more than a vessel for new life; we see her only when, all too briefly, she gets to lick the newborn clean. In the second, we watch Luma do it all over again, this time fixed on her heavy head as farmhands busy themselves behind her. Perhaps it’s an anthropomorphic reach to say she looks tired.

Is this a horror classic? I’d certainly says yes, just for the shrewd, sympathetic performance of Peter Lorre as an unlucky immigrant whose disfigurement in a fire turns him to life of crime and vengeance. An impossibly young Evelyn Keyes shines as the sweet love interest, but the performances and Robert Florey’s good direction keep the tone from going soft. And the ending is as bleak and chilling as they come. Whatever you may do, my recommendation is to Not double-cross Peter Lorre. The disc producers give experts Alan K. Rode and Kim Newman the podium, and they respond with three full extras on this highly unusual, seldom-seen gem of a horror film.

The Joker has been around for quite some time, earning the mantle of Batman's greatest nemesis, with The Clown Prince of Crime having many great stories to his name. While stories like "Mad Love," A Death In The Family," and "Soft Targets" are great, there are two stories that reign supreme.
Related: Batman: White Knight is Making Harley Quinn a Hero (Again)
For years, Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke was seen as the definitive Joker story, then Sean Gordon Murphy created Batman: White Knight. Both stories have their advantages, but if The Joker was going to have a favorite, he'd prefer it to be multiple choice.

Like nearly everything else, late-night musical performances don’t look the way they did a year ago. It’s not just that musicians in these contexts are playing to mostly vacant studios or places with a single-digit number of audience members.
It’s that a growing number of artists and bands with spots on network talk shows are slowly figuring out a new form that exists somewhere between concert and music video. Of course, that’s a line that was pushed well before last spring. (Take Spike Jonze’s live-to-tape video for Karen O & Danger Mouse’s “Woman” or Travis Scott’s euphoric “goosebumps” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”) But what used to be a rare occurence has inched a lot closer towards the norm. With packed studios still a possibility in the distance, this new way of bringing music to these shows is giving musical acts and the shows they...

Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond are among several new DC titles arriving on HBO Max next month, finally bringing the fan favorite cartoon shows to the WarnerMedia-owned streaming service. Additionally, titles like Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Justice League Dark: Apokalips War, and Batman: Bad Blood are also set to begin streaming exclusively on HBO Max starting on the first of the year.
Previously, DC has tried to ingratiate themselves into the streaming game with the launch of the DC Universe streaming service. This came along with the production of new content, such as Swamp Thing and Harley Quinn, which were originally meant to be exclusives. It has since been announced that DC Universe will also become a comics-exclusive platform, and the shows and movies hosted by the streamer will be moved to HBO Max as a result.

In our Q&a series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs - from the last thing they texted to the last thing they binge-watched. This week, singer JoJo takes our call.
Few people have been topping the charts and breaking records since the casual young age of 13, but JoJo is one of them. From her breakout hit "Leave (Get Out)" that we all dramatically sang along to on windows-down car rides to her comeback album Mad Love in 2016, she never ceases to bring us some perfect, relatable bops. So it's no surprise that her latest album, Good to Know, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard R&b albums chart.
Now, she's released a deluxe edition of the album, with new songs and collabs featuring fellow badass women Demi Lovato and Tinashe. In celebration of the album release, we...

Jacques Rivette's Out 1, Noli Me Tangere (1971) is showing on Mubi in the United States. There’s a lot of confusion about what improvisation in movies consists of—when it is or isn’t used, and sometimes what it means when it is used. Those who think that the dialogue in Orson Welles’ The Other Side of the Wind is improvised don’t realize that the screenplay by Welles and Oja Kodar with that dialogue was published years ago, long before the film’s posthumous completion. It’s worth adding, however, that the film’s mise en scène was improvised by Welles on a daily basis. Similarly, those misled by director Robert Altman’s dreamy pans and seemingly random zooms in The Long Goodbye into concluding that the actors must be inventing their own lines are ignoring the careful work done by screenwriter Leigh Brackett, not to mention Raymond Chandler.

This review contains Harley Quinn spoilers.
Harley Quinn Season 2 Episode 6
Over one and a half seasons, Harley Quinn has established itself as silly, satirical, and brilliantly crude. But with “All The Best Inmates Have Daddy Issues,” Harley Quinn reveals a softer side.
Reimagining the classic Mad Love arc through the lens of Silence of the Lambs and some instantly recognizable Harley Quinn humor, we get to see Harley and Joker’s first meeting. Though there is, of course, a twist as it’s revealed that our anti-heroine met someone else on that fateful first day at Arkham: her closest friend and ally, Poison Ivy.
Something that’s immediately intriguing in what could’ve been an overly familiar arc is how they shine a blinding light on why Harley might have fallen for the Joker. Sure, it’s all done in the silliest way possible, but Dr. Quinzel sees horrific human...

Happy birthday to Linda Ronstadt’s New Wave album Mad Love, released 40 years ago, in March 1980. It’s the weirdest oddity in her catalog, with three Elvis Costello covers. Mad Love is forgotten by time, written out of her official history. Not even Linda has a kind word for this album. In the acclaimed 2019 documentary, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice — which treats every one of her career moves as a stroke of brilliance — Mad Love doesn’t get mentioned much. But for some of us, it’s one...

Harley Quinn has had a strange rise to the top. The now top-selling comic book (and especially top-selling merchandise) character famously didn't get her start on the page -- she was born for the screen in the beloved 90s show Batman: The Animated Series. First imagined as a henchman to joker to stand in contrast to his usual lunks, Harley quickly gained a fan following of her own, and after getting a proper origin story with the episode "Mad Love," she made her way to the comics, where she's been growing in popularity and compelling storylines ever …...

Well, here we are, just a few short days away from the kickoff of the 10th annual TCM Classic Film Festival. I promise I am excited for what will undoubtedly be yet another stimulating weekend of buzzing about in Hollywood, engaged in an exuberant celebration of all things classic Hollywood with all manner of fellow travelers from the furthest-flung locales around the country and the world. But what I also am is pre-exhausted, which is a condition that has preceded at least the last five TCMFFs I’ve attended, regardless of the quality and consistency of the individual festivals themselves. I’ve attended every Tcmff since the inaugural festival in 2010, am about to dive deep into the tenth such gathering, and after ten years one develops ways of forgetting, in much the same way that, say, a cyclist can allow herself to forget the grueling aspects of a long-distance road...

“Orange Is The New Black” and “American Pie” star Jason Biggs has been cast in the lead role opposite Maggie Lawson in the upcoming Fox multi-camera comedy pilot “Geniuses,” Variety has learned.
Biggs will play Mike, an affable, enthusiastic dad and husband to Cay (Lawson), who is described as a true Jersey girl. While Mike is definitely not cerebral, Cay can be tough and blunt when she needs to be, with a strong intuition and a nose for Bs, which is a useful skill at her job as a pit boss at an Atlantic City casino.
The pilot follows the blue-collar couple in South Jersey trying to get by and raise four kids, three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses. Lon Zimmet will write and executive produce, while Jonathan Judge will direct.
As well as starring in four “American Pie”-related movies, Biggs previously toplined the CBS comedy series “Mad Love.

Jason Biggs (Orange is the New Black) has been tapped as the male lead opposite Maggie Lawson in Geniuses (working title), Fox’s multi-camera blue-collar family comedy pilot from La to Vegas creator/executive producer Lon Zimmet.
Written and executive produced by Zimmet, Geniuses harkens back to one of Fox’s signature comedy series, Malcolm in the Middle. The comedy is about Cay (Lawson) and Mike (Biggs), a blue-collar couple in South Jersey trying to get by while raising four kids, three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.
Biggs plays Mike, the dad. He is affable, enthusiastic and not dumb but definitely not cerebral.
Biggs next will be seen reprising his role as Larry Bloom on the final season of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black and in the indie The Subject, directed by Lanie Zipoy. In TV, the American Pie alum previously headlined the CBS comedy series Mad Love.

“I feel if I were to organize it correctly I would try to sing like a Mexican and think like a German. You know what I mean? I get it mixed up,” Linda Ronstadt joked to Rolling Stone in 1978. The quip was a comical reference to her Mexican-German heritage but also, in retrospect, a reflection of Ronstadt’s many musical influences and interests, along with the self-deprecating humor she has employed throughout more than five decades of music stardom. Born in July 1946 in Tucson, Arizona, where her father, Gilbert, the...

Thirty-nine years ago next month, Linda Ronstadt released Mad Love, her tenth LP as a solo artist. Ronstadt had previously topped both the pop and country singles charts respectively with high-spirited takes on “You’re No Good” and “When Will I Be Loved,” but Mad Love put the singer in new-wave rock & roll territory. While it’s actually one of her most adventurously vibrant efforts – not to mention Grammy-nominated and her seventh straight million-seller – reviews of the album were decidedly mixed.

When Batman: The Animated Series was confirmed to be released on Blu-ray as a complete package, I was not only thrilled to learn that as a longtime fan, but also eager to review it as a critic. As you may know, this was a show that changed the game when it came to superhero cartoons because there’d simply been nothing like it beforehand. Seriously, it boasted rich, dramatic storytelling that was mature enough for adults to enjoy, yet still accessible for kids – plus it featured actors whom you normally wouldn’t think of as participating in such a production.
These days, it could be argued that some series have surpassed B:tas (I think Justice League Unlimited now takes the cake for me), but there’s no denying the impact it made, or how it has held up more than two decades later. Maybe it’s the film noir quality...
