Batman has one of the most compelling origin stories in comic book history, depicted in a litany of DC movies and series with varying degrees of efficacy. Batman’s backstory is a cornerstone of his mythos, triggering his transformation into the Dark Knight. Throughout the Dcu’s history, various adaptations have put their own spin on this defining moment, some staying faithful to the source material while others take creative liberties, which will likely continue into the Dcu's future. As a result, some have been markedly more effective than others.
Batman’s origin story is simple yet powerful. Young Bruce Wayne leaves a theatre with his parents, Thomas and Martha, turning down Crime Alley. A mugger attacks the family, typically stealing Martha’s pearl necklace before shooting the parents. This traumatic event inspires Bruce to dedicate his life to fighting crime. This story has been retold and reimagined countless times in various media,...

The Bleach anime continued expanding its zanpakuto-based combat system until the characters were releasing their swords with not just shikai, but also powerful bankai. These bankai all take different shapes and have unique powers, making them the apex of Bleach's combat system for the Soul Reapers. Interestingly, the most powerful bankai and the most intimidating bankai are not always the same.
Few weapons or powers in Bleach are actually meant to scare the enemy aside from Äs Nödt's The Fear, but based on their presentation and unusual abilities, certain bankai are certainly intimidating for anyone facing them in battle. Some bankai make the enemy feel trapped and helpless, while others are such a savage display of power that anyone would be terrified to face that power head-on. That may give certain Soul Reapers a psychological edge when facing Arrancars, Sternritter, or even each other.

This story was created in paid partnership with Pokeepsie Films
Pokeepsie Films has cause for celebration. The Madrid-based production outfit has three new premieres on three different streaming platforms this month, an enviable release schedule to be sure. Adding to the mix, the company – launched by real-life partners Álex De la Iglesia, the genre writer-director, and actress-producer Carolina Bang – is also celebrating its 10-year anniversary.
Over the course of the last decade, Pokeepsie has stealthily set itself apart as a unique home for Spanish talent, so much so that they drew backing from multinational Banijay in 2022 to support their ambitious slate of films and series.
“We are immensely proud to conclude our 10th anniversary year with the release of these three premieres,” says Bang, the company’s CEO. “While this was not initially planned, 2024 has provided us with a remarkable close to the year, showcasing our ongoing commitment to innovation...

Debuting on September 5, 1992, Batman: The Animated Series has garnered significant praise over the decades, celebrated as an innovative "all ages" program that challenged preconceived notions of superhero material on television. Lauded for its often-sophisticated writing, production design, orchestral score, and vocal performances, Batman defined the character and his world for a generation of fans. But the show audiences know today followed other abandoned attempts at a network Batman series. Much still remains unknown, but some of the production work for these nixed attempts has surfaced in recent years.
Tragedy Strikes a Super Friend
Prior to Batman: The Animated Series, the hero's most recent series was 1977's The New Adventures of Batman, produced by budget animation studio Filmation for CBS's Saturday morning line-up. Hanna-Barbera's Super Friends series, airing on ABC, was also in production at the time, creating rights issues that prevented the Riddler and the Scarecrow from making real appearances.

Born on April 1, 1992, Kennedy began her career in 2014, appearing in an unnamed role in the small comedy film, Gregor. Work came fairly consistently for the young actress as she appeared in small roles on TV and short films, and even began work as a voice actor in video games. In fact, many of Kate Kennedy's best roles have come in video games.
Kennedy has also appeared on stage, notably appearing in the 2018 play, Hunch, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one of the world's largest performance arts festivals. Back when video shops and horror aisles were still common, it was hard not to be creeped out by the classic box art for The Fear. Wooden antagonist Morty attacks onlookers with his unrelenting stare. The tagline “He’s Whatever Scares You The Most” is as intriguing as it is foreboding. And while this 1990s horror oddball has found itself a fanbase over the years — albeit a small one — its sequel continues to go unnoticed. A lot of folks don’t even know it exists to begin with.
Not too long after Morty’s debut, someone gave the mannequin a killer makeover. Whether or not the update was an improvement is arguable, and reviews of this sequel are indeed more negative than that of the original. However, The Fear: Halloween Night has at least one thing its predecessor doesn’t: a clearer sense of identity.

Three years ago, we heard that genre regular Álex de la Iglesia – whose credits include creating the HBO horror series 30 Coins – had signed a deal with Amazon Prime Video and Sony Pictures International Productions to produce a series of feature-length horror films under the banner of The Fear Collection. It was said that de la Iglesia would be directing part of the collection and the entries not directed by him would still be “made under his creative influence”. The collection has turned out to consist of de la Iglesia’s own Veneciafrenia, Jaume Balaguero’s Venus, and Paco Plaza’s La Abuela – and all three films are now available on VOD, including on Amazon’s Prime Video!
De la Iglesia, who made his feature directorial debut with Accion Mutante in 1993, directed Veneciafrenia (watch it Here) from a screenplay he wrote with Jorge Guerricaechevarría. This one explores the profound connection...

Batman fans have argued for decades over who was the best actor to play The Dark Knight. But what about the performers who portrayed Bruce Wayne as a boy? Batman wouldn't be Batman without witnessing his parents' murder, so audiences have been subjected to that event again and again. While it might seem repetitive to viewers, it means they've also had a chance to see multiple child actors tackle the role. However, that raises the question: Who were those young actors, and whatever happened to these little Caped Crusaders?
The history of seeing Bruce Wayne as a child onscreen dates back to 1985, when B.J. Ward pulled double duty as both Wonder Woman and a young Bruce, as Adam West's Batman remembered his parents' death in the Super Friends episode "The Fear." However, due to the recent explosion of DC animated content in the past 15 years, this article will limit...

The Power is the newest sci-fi series on Prime Video, which follows the interwoven stories of several women as a new power begins to awaken within them. Based on the novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman, who also serves as one of the show’s executive producers, The Power centers on a new organ present only in women: the skein. This new piece of anatomy allows women to produce powerful electricity, and in turn begins to shift the power balance between men and women.
Influenced by her relationship with fellow author Margaret Atwood, Alderman's novel The Power earned the Women's Prize for Fiction in 2017, and is her first novel to be adapted into a television series. Previously, Tim Bricknell served as producer on other projects such as the Tom Hardy-driven Taboo and the miniseries The Fear. "Batman: The Animated Series" is one of the crowning achievements of American animation. To this day, it's remembered for its atmospheric art design (homaging Fleischer Studios' Superman cartoons) and mature storytelling — even if it never forgot its young target audience along the way. The series' star, the late, legendary Kevin Conroy, is the definitive voice of the Dark Knight for a generation, while Harley Quinn, who was created for the series, has become the most successful DC Comics character who didn't originate in the comics.
The series' success meant its creative team shaped Batman in animation for the next decade. In 1993, the series led to the theatrical film, "Mask of the Phantasm," which took everything great about the series and pushed it further. While "Batman: The Animated Series" ended in 1995, it became only the first installment in the DC Animated Universe, which culminated wiith "Justice League Unlimited," which ran from...

Lily Allen has hit out at the “misogynistic and awful” music industry amid her burgeoning acting career.
The star had chart-topping success in the 2000s with songs “Smile” and “The Fear”, and has released four records, the most recent arriving in 2018.
However, in 2021, she starred in the stage play 2:22: A Ghost Story, and is now set to make her TV debut in comedy drama Dreamland. Following this, Allen will co-lead new Martin McDonagh play The Pillowman on the West End later this year.
Allen acknowleged that the career gearshift might take her music fans by surprise, but said it was actually “more surprising” that she embarked on a music career.
“It is the family business,” she told The Times, referring to her acting father, Keith Allen, and brother, Alife Allen.

When you’ve stolen Glastonbury, defined an era, released the album of the decade and exploded Michael Jackson’s cheesy pop pomposity on the global stage, what exactly do you do for an encore? Such was the dilemma facing Jarvis Cocker – arch Britpop voyeur, poet laureate of the fumbled bra-strap and Jesus sandal, once memorably described as a cross between Alan Bennett and Barry White – as he sat in hotel rooms on the tour for 1995’s masterpiece Different Class. There he was, shrouded in the anonymous dark, watching pornographic films and relating deeply to the blankness in the eyes of the performers.
“I found it fascinating wondering what happened to these porn stars,” the frontman of Sheffield alt-legends Pulp – who reform for a run of major festival and arena shows this summer – told NME in 1998. “People have a voracious appetite for porn, they need to see new faces all the time,...

Justin Roiland is leaving Rick and Morty, and while the titular duo is being recast for season 7, one other Justin Roiland character probably won't be recast. Roiland is the co-creator and star of Adult Swim's Rick and Morty, having voiced Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith since the very beginning of the show. However, Rick and Morty season 7 will change everything, giving a new voice to Rick and Morty, with questions still remaining about the status of Roiland's other characters.
Justin Roiland was fired from Rick and Morty after season 6, with the decision being made by Adult Swim after Roiland was accused of domestic abuse. Unexpectedly, Adult Swim simultaneously announced that Rick and Morty would continue on without its creator, with the two characters presumably being recast before the next season. Besides Rick and Morty, Roiland voices tons of background characters throughout the show, giving life to all kinds of one-off joke characters.

Krapopolis has already been renewed for three seasons before the general public have even seen the first episode. Krapopolis creator Dan Harmon rose to prominence as showrunner for Community, a cult hit show that overcame cancelation several times and led to six whole seasons. The community college-based sitcom was known for its quirky and irreverent alumni and faculty of the college, but it was most beloved for its finger-on-the-pulse pop culture references. That continued with the much edgier, more vulgar, and phenomenally successful animated follow-up, Rick and Morty, which is also six seasons deep with a seventh season on the way.
As such, audiences have eagerly anticipated further works to follow-up the celebrated Adult Swim comedy. One such show is Krapopolis, which has seen delays that meant it had season 3 renewed before Krapopolis even premiered. Not much is known about the Fox-owned show other than that it follows a family...

While Rick and Morty season 6’s fight between Jerry and Pissmaster was a pretty pitiable display, the sequence did signal a major shift in the characterization of Morty’s father. Rick and Morty’s characters have changed a lot over the show’s six seasons, but it can sometimes be hard to notice these subtle shifts. While Rick and Morty’s titular protagonist Morty became more self-confident and independent in season 5, this change was largely undone in season 6, while Rick’s apparent redemption late in Rick and Morty season 6 turned out to be a mean-spirited misdirection.
However, one character shift that has stuck is the one undergone by Morty’s father Jerry. Since Rick and Morty’s pilot episode, Jerry was something of a foil for Rick. Where Rick was endlessly competent and confident, Jerry was an insecure, bumbling buffoon. Where Rick could manipulate almost any situation with his seemingly limitless genius,...

While it is better that Rick and Morty season 7 is happening, the critically acclaimed Adult Swim hit could have ended with the season 6 finale in terms of story and character. When the news that Justin Roiland, the co-creator of Rick and Morty, was charged with domestic violence, the future of the Adult Swim hit seemed uncertain. Roiland had voiced both title characters in the massively successful series since the show debuted in 2013 (although his involvement in the writing of recent seasons of Rick and Morty was reportedly minimal). In late January 2023, Adult Swim confirmed that the network had severed its ties to Roiland, but clarified that Rick and Morty would continue production.
While replacing Roiland as Rick and Morty’s lead characters could be tricky for the network, this decision was ultimately the right call. Dozens of creatives would have been left unemployed by the cancelation of the show, and...

The Rick and Morty co-creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon reportedly had a falling out long before the recent Roiland controversies. The two creators elected to work together in 2012 to produce a show that would follow two characters from a Back to the Future parody that Roiland worked on previously. With the project planned, the two collaborated to create the hit show Rick and Morty, an animated sci-fi series with raunchy humor and heavy themes, which has quickly become one of the most popular animated shows on TV.
While Rick and Morty became heavily successful, new reports about Roiland detail shocking behind-the-scenes issues. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Roiland and Harmon fell out years before Roiland's controversies came to light. Despite numerous attempts to resolve their relationship, the two were unable and unwilling to budge, allegedly causing long-term resentment and major problems in the writing room that hamstrung the series.

Rick & Morty will reportedly not cut short its original 70-episode order, despite the exit of its co-creator and main voice actor. Justin Roiland recently was let go from all his animated projects, including Rick and Morty, after being charged with domestic battery and false imprisonment. And just today, a bombshell report revealed that Roiland had in fact been largely uninvolved with the creative process on his shows even before his firings, and had essentially reduced his role on Rick and Morty to remotely-recorded vocal work.
These stunning Roiland developments indeed came just weeks after Rick and Morty wrapped up season 6, bringing it ten episodes closer to delivering on the 70-episode order it received back in 2018. The great success that Justin Roiland achieved with Rick and Morty came crashing down last month when Adult Swim ended their association with him after he was charged with felony domestic abuse. While some feared that the series would be cancelled as a result of Roiland’s exit, it was quickly announced that Rick and Morty would continue with the leading roles set to be recast. After being cut from multiple shows, a new Rick and Morty report details a number of shocking behind-the-scenes issues surrounding Justin Roiland. Having risen to stardom as the co-creator and star of the hit Adult Swim series, Roiland came under fire this past January when charges of domestic battery and false imprisonment were brought against him, resulting in his firing from the show. His troubles wouldn't stop there, however, as not only did 20th Century Animation sever their creative deal with Roiland, but also dropped him from two of their shows, Solar Opposites, on which he is also a co-creator, and the recently premiered Koala Man.
Nearly two weeks after word first broke of his being fired, The Hollywood Reporter has released a new Rick and Morty report detailing Justin Roiland's shocking behind-the-scenes behavorial issues. The story, which features insight from both named and anonymous sources, alleges that Roiland became...

While Rick and Morty’s season 6 finale featured a dark twist in its closing scene, this sequence was also an ironic mirror of the pilot’s cold open. Rick and Morty has changed a lot since the show’s 2013 debut. Rick and Morty season 1, episode 1, “Pilot,” features cruder humor and broader, sillier versions of the main characters. The cast of Rick and Morty wasn't fleshed out until later episodes and viewers wouldn’t get a glimpse into Rick’s internal life until season 2, while they would have to wait until Rick and Morty season 4 for any lasting character development.
However, the more things change in the chaotic world of Rick and Morty, the more they stay the same. Rick’s apparent character development in season 6 turned out to be a ruse in the finale, which revealed that he was more unhinged and obsessive than ever before. Although Rick and Morty...

On December 2, 2013, Adult Swim made an impact in adult animation with the premiere of Rick and Morty. The show had a slow start for a couple of seasons, but word of mouth and online discussions about its clever writing gradually garnered an audience. And by the time Season 3 premiered, its popularity had exploded, becoming the adult animated face of a generation. Not only were they crushing it on Adult Swim, but the show was getting fast food deals, showed up on countless products, presented for the Emmys, cameoed in movies, and setting a precedent for a slew of science fiction projects that currently permeates pop culture. However, by the time the series hit its sixth season, the chatter became less and less, then news of Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland began to surface, putting the show’s future in question. Although the series will return for a seventh season...

While Rick and Morty season 7 will be recasting its two title characters due to Justin Roiland’s dismissal, there is already an in-universe explanation for this change. The anarchic world of Rick and Morty has few rules, which is a major element of the animated comedy’s appeal. However, there has been a level of consistency throughout Rick and Morty’s six seasons. For example, both title characters have been played by Justin Roiland since Rick and Morty’s pilot episode.
Adult Swim cut ties with Justin Roiland after his charges of domestic battery and false imprisonment were made public. Now, the creators of Rick and Morty must recast Roiland's roles for season 7, as Adult Swim announced that the series will continue without Roiland’s involvement. This could succeed thanks to an existing canon storyline from the Rick and Morty season 6 finale, which unintentionally set up Rick’s potential voice replacement.

Rick and Morty season 6, episode 10, "Ricktional Mortpoon's Rickmas Mortcation" further develops the show's overarching plot, proving that the series is really messing with its audience. Rick and Morty has been the subject of some criticism due to its narrative constantly switching back and forth between a serialized story and episodic one-off adventures. However, the way that Rick and Morty season 6 ended shows that the show is willing to double down on criticisms of the show, and proving that it is making a joke at the expense of its viewers.
Each episode of Rick and Morty follows its main cast of characters as they explore high-concept ideas masked with cynical and low-brow humor. This balance has made Rick and Morty beloved by its fans, but more recent seasons have been trying something new. Almost a decade since the debut of the hit television series Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland, who is currently facing domestic abuse charges in connection with a 2020 incident, will no longer be part of the show, Adult Swim announced.
Roiland is the sci-fi comedy’s co-creator along with Dan Harmon and he famously voices both the alcoholic mad scientist and his grandson.
In Memoriam 2022: 100 Great Celebrities Who Died In 2022
This came a week following the 42-year-old’s resignation from his video game studio, Squanch Games, which recently released the comedic adventure-styled High On Life.
Fans can still expect a seventh season of Rick and Morty sometime this year, though the main characters will be recast. Additional details about the recasting and prospective actors are not known, according to a statement from Marie Moore, the senior Vice President of communications at parent company Warner Bros Discovery.

Recasting the title characters of Rick and Morty with some specific internet performers who've demonstrated their perfect skills is the best future for season 7 of the Adult Swim hit. It is not unusual for a television series to recast major characters, but this is tougher for some shows to pull off than others. A week after Rick and Morty star Justin Roiland’s domestic battery and false imprisonment charges became public knowledge, Adult Swim severed ties with the voice actor who played both title characters in the series.
Adult Swim announced that Rick and Morty season 7 would continue without Roiland’s involvement, a decision that ensured the show’s writers, animators, and production staff retained their jobs. However, this naturally raised the question of who would take the role of voicing Rick and Morty going forward with the series. Fortunately for the creators of Rick and Morty, the franchise has...

Marvel Studios has discreetly edited an episode of the Disney Plus series Ms Marvel months after it was released.
The change was made to address a continuity error between the six-part teen series and the 2021 blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Both the series and film take place in the same continuity, under the sprawling franchise umbrella of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
No Way Home staged its final battle on scaffolding around New York’s Statue of Liberty, which is depicted as being bronze-gold in colour – unlike the real landmark, which is green.
The statue can be see in the background of a shot during the final episode of Ms Marvel’s first season.
Back when the episode was first released, in July last year, the statue was clearly green, prompting some fans to point out that this was inconsistent with the world established in No Way Home.

Fans of “Rick and Morty” are auditioning for the hit show following the ouster of co-creator and voice actor Justin Roiland.
With two domestic abuse charges from 2020 surrounding the co-creator and voice actor, Adult Swim will have to figure out how to tread forward without the original voice of the iconic characters.

The task may be tall as Roiland voiced many characters on the popular series, including the two main characters, Rick and Morty. Luckily for Adult Swim, dedicated fans are taking it upon themselves to submit mock auditions for the roles of Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith.
Fans have taken to Twitter and TikTok to audition for the role of the titular characters following the ousting of Roiland. Many are pretty bad, but only a few fans take the auditions seriously.

The removal of Justin Roiland from Rick and Morty may seem to be a major blow to the series, but Rick and Morty has several ways it can explain and integrate new voice actors. Adult Swim announced that it would part ways with Roiland, the series's co-creator and voice of both title characters, after reports of criminal charges for domestic violence surfaced and were followed by additional allegations of sexual misconduct. Given the seriousness of the allegations, Roiland's removal was undoubtedly justified, but it raises the question of whether there's any point doing Rick and Morty without the voice of Rick and Morty.
Voice recasting is rarer in adult-oriented animation than children's shows, but there are undoubtedly recent examples of it, from series such as Family Guy and The Simpsons recasting Black roles for racial sensitivity to fellow Adult Swim show Squidbillies firing and replacing one of its regulars. Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland has just been dropped from both his Hulu series, Solar Opposites and Koala Man. The Adult Swim animated program Ricky & Morty, which Roiland co-created with Dan Harmon, has become an enormous success after it premiered in December 2013. In addition to being one of the driving creative forces behind the multimillion-dollar franchise, Roiland also voices both the title characters. However, he was removed from the show following domestic violence charges for an incident taking place in January 2020.
Per Variety, Hulu has followed suit and dropped Roiland from the animated series Solar Opposites and Koala Man. Both series were collaborations between Hulu and 20th Century Animation, who said in a joint statement that they have “ended [their] association” with the creator. Solar Opposites, which was co-created by and stars Roiland, is a sci-fi comedy that premiered in 2020 and has already been renewed for an upcoming season 4 and 5. Koala Man,...

The decision from the two Disney units comes a day after Adult Swim cut ties with Roiland. He co-created Solar Opposites with fellow Rick and Morty alum Mike McMahan and also voices one of the show’s lead characters. Solar Opposites has aired three seasons to date and is renewed through a fifth.

Adult Swim, the network behind Rick and Morty, announced it is severing ties with the series’ co-creator, Justin Roiland.

Huge news has just broken in response to the allegations and criminal charge against "Rick & Morty" co-creator and star Justin Roiland. The Hollywood Reporter has just shared that Adult Swim has officially ended its relationship with Roiland.

Justin Roiland, co-creator, executive producer and star of Adult Swim’s flagship animated series Rick and Morty, is no longer in business with the Warner Bros Discovery brand on the heel of serious domestic violence allegations against him coming to light earlier this month.

Following Roiland’s exit, Rick and Morty will continue, with title characters, which had been voiced by Roiland, recast.
Co-created by Roiland and Dan Harmon, the hit series received a massive 70-episode order in 2018 when Adult Swim also signed new long-term deals with Roiland and Harmon. The show, which has been renewed through Season 10, has completed six seasons, with four more to go as part of the pickup.

Rick and Morty's post-credit scenes have given a nod to one of the McU's Phase 3 tricks. Each episode of Rick and Morty has featured a brief after credits scene, typically continuing a gag set up in the episode. While the post-credits started as a way to add in a few final laughs, Rick and Morty season 6 used one trick to turn it into a serious story-telling tool.

For a good long while, it seemed that the parody had become the lowest possible form of comedy. With such abhorrent cinematic garbage piles like the works of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer dominating the form for nearly a decade, it felt like almost no one even knew how to make a decent parody anymore, let alone a good one.
Enter Dan Harmon. Thanks to his groundbreaking sitcom "Community" and its numerous episodes that parodied everything from specific classic movies to genres, he and his writers proved that parody could be more than just empty references and callbacks. Putting down-to-earth characters who go to a community college inside a pseudo-zombie apocalypse, as in one episode, is an extension of the way Edgar Wright made films first and parodies second in his early work like "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz."

The fifth season finale of "Rick and Morty" concluded with a game-changing scenario. The episode entitled "Rickmurai Jack" saw the return of Evil Morty and the Citadel of Ricks, both of which were introduced all the way back in the first season in "Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind." Evil Morty took over the Citadel of Ricks in the season 3 episode "The Ricklantis Mixup," and in the fifth season finale, Evil Morty revealed that the multiverse, as we've experienced it in "Rick and Morty" thus far, isn't quite as expansive as we think.

“Rick and Morty” is getting the anime treatment.
On Wednesday, Adult Swim announced it had greenlit the new anime series “Rick and Morty: The Anime,” from director Takashi Sano (“Tower of God”). Sano previously directed two anime shorts in the franchise, “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil).” Sano will adapt themes and events of the main series for “The Anime.”
“The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion,” Sano said in a statement. “It’s such a life affirming sight, and Jerry is no exception. … I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!”
The new series, from Telecom Animation Film (“Lupin the IIIrd Series”), will span 10 episodes. It will air on Adult Swim and stream on HBO Max.
