“Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later every asshole gets one,” François Ozon, one of France's most prolific director/screenwriters, has noted.
With Frantz, his pacifistic, feminist, and slightly homoerotic chronicling of a post-World War I love affair of sorts opening Stateside this week, he can say that with a smile. After all, this feature has already garnered eleven Cécar nominations, including one for best film, and a dozen more from various international film festivals.
For many folks, that’s no surprise. All they have to hear is that a new Ozon is unspooling at their local art house, and they’re hotfooting it to the ticket booth. Why? Few other directors have the ability to depict the psychosexual permutations of our fellow man better, at times accompanied with an unexpected Hitchcockian twist or a good dose of Almodóvarian tongue-in-cheek perversity.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled Wednesday that the women known as the “San Antonio Four” be declared innocent and exonerated after almost 15 years in prison, Ksat 12 News reports.
The story of Elizabeth Ramirez, Kristie Mayhugh, Cassandra Rivera and Anna Vasquez – who were convicted in 1997 of attacking Ramirez’s nieces, ages 7 and 9 – was the subject of a recent documentary Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four, that aired on Investigation Discovery.

The allegations that arose in 1994 stunned Elizabeth Ramirez.
Police were on the phone, saying her two nieces — then ages 7 and 9 — had accused Ramirez and three of her friends of sexually assaulting them months earlier over a two-day period while Ramirez cared for the young girls at her apartment in San Antonio, Texas.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Ramirez tells People. “I was like, where did they even come up with that? I was like in shock.”

“Welcome to the Kingdom,” says Khary Payton’s Ezekiel — accompanied by his pet tiger, Shiva — at the top of a new promo for Season 7 of AMC’s The Walking Dead (premiering Sunday, Oct. 23, at 9/8c). And, just like that, we’re not only in the Negan era, we’re also in the Ezekiel era.

The longtime team physician for USA Gymnastics - who is accused in a new lawsuit of sexually abusing two former gymnasts - was investigated by Michigan State University's police department in 2014 following an almost identical complaint, but was cleared of any wrongdoing, People learns. A spokesman for the East Lansing school confirms to People that Dr. Larry Nassar was the focus of a police probe two years ago, and university officials temporarily reassigned Nassar during the investigation. "The complaint, filed by a recent female Msu graduate at the time, involved an allegation of abuse during a medical procedure," a spokesman for the school tells People.

“We thought it was going to be a cakewalk.”
“Southwest of Salem” director Deborah S. Esquenazi had planned to end her documentary with the happy exoneration of the San Antonio Four. Unfortunately, the case is still ongoing, despite mounting evidence of injustice.
In 1994, four Latina lesbian women — Elizabeth Ramirez, Cassandra Rivera, Kristie Mayhugh and Anna Vasquez — were wrongfully accused of gang-raping two little girls in San Antonio. The accused were released from prison when one of the girls recanted, and some of the forensic evidence were debunked in 2012 and 2013. The women have yet to be exonerated, though, and their freedoms are still curtailed.
Esquenazi filmed the hearings for ID’s documentary “Southwest of Salem” and felt that the evidence was presented “so meticulously” that the four women’s innocence would be apparent. “But the hours passed, and the judge got more ornery,” she said at the Television Critics Association panel for the film on Monday.

Three new releases hit theaters this weekend as the "official" start of the summer movie season is now just one week away. This year, however, has had more than its share of box office blockbusters ahead of the summer movie season with three films already topping $300 million domestically and a fourth well on its way to doing that same. The fourth film is, of course, Disney's The Jungle Book, which will be unfazed by this week's new offerings as it will maintain the #1 position at the box office for a third straight week in a row. Said new titles vying for a position in the top ten include Warner's comedy Keanu, Open Road's Mother's Day and Gramercy's animated release Ratchet & Clank. Meanwhile, Captain America: Civil War began its international debut just yesterday and is off to a great start, banking $14.9 million from 15 territories, just behind the performance of Avengers: Age of Ultron last year.

Late last year we had reported that model turned actor Sudhanshu Pandey who was contemplating on turning producer with a film titled Farmayish, had alleged that Sanjay Gupta's next with Hrithik Roshan that would be coproduced by Rakesh Roshan had been inspired from his script. Well matters simmered down a bit, after Roshan released a statement stating that since they had not launched any film there was no question of it being similar. However, now we hear that Sudhanshu has registered criminal charges of fraud and theft against Rakesh Roshan and Sanjay Gupta at the Amboli Police station. Further, Pandey's lawyer Rohini Vakil added that apart from this they would also be filing a civil complaint next week. While currently the police are recording statements with the investigation underway. Pandey and Siraj Ahmed, the writer who assisted Pandey on the script, recorded their statements. Whereas Gupta and Roshan have...

"I'd always braid Anna's hair, but I was doing it too tight and it broke in some places. Then I got a French-braid lesson from her mom, and it turns out I'm a pro," he says. "I...

The U.S. version of UK series Sirens will make its debut in March. The original featured three Emt’s, one of whom (played by Game Of Thrones‘ Richard Madden) was gay. Will that gay character survive the American reboot? Considering that this version is produced and co-written by Denis Leary … I don’t even want to think about it.

Last week was not so pleasant for actor Vivek Oberoi. The actor and his father Suresh Oberoi received a non-bailable warrant from a metropolitan magistrate court with regard to a bounced cheque worth Rs. 3 crore. Apart from the duo, four members from board of directors and a manager from Oberoi Mutimedia Ltd had also been accused for the same. The complaint had been filed by Jawaharlal Agicha who acquainted with Suresh Oberoi's relative and company's MD Anand Oberoi and its manager Anil Lalwani. Agicha informed that he received only Rs 50,000 in January 2010 via cheque, while another cheque of Rs. 3 crore meant for realisation on October 19, 2010, bounced. In response to the accusation levied on him and his family, Vivek has retaliated by filing a Rs. 25 crore defamation case against the concerned person. Vivek claims that the news being spread is false and is an attempt to defame the name of him and his family.
