There’s another political battle brewing these days, but it has nothing to do with Trump or Clinton. Well, maybe not exactly political, but more “political.” During the Republican National Convention, Late Show host Stephen Colbert reprised his conservative Colbert Report alter ago. This apparently did not go over well with Comedy Central and their parent company Viacom as it seems they own the character. “Immediately after that show, CBS’s top lawyer was contacted by the top lawyer from another company to say that the character ‘Stephen Colbert’ is their intellectual property, which is surprising, because I never considered that guy much of an intellectual,” Colbert said. He added, “So it is with a heavy heart that I announce that, thanks to corporate lawyers, the character of ‘Stephen Colbert,’ host of The Colbert Report, will never be seen again.” But then a funny thing happened. Colbert (are you keeping this all straight?...

What do you know so far about American Horror Story Season 6?
Just about Nothing. But we have news!!!
Lady Gaga has been confirmed and now her on air American Horror Story Season 5 hubby, Cheyenne Jackson, has confirmed his return, as well.
On Jackson's Twitter account today, he merely said, "It's true," posting a link to an interview he did with Out Magazine.
In the interview, Jackson notes the latest season will take the audience to different, if not darker, places, but, "Wild horses wouldn't make me reveal the plot."
So That's why the show has been flying under the radar with regard to filming.
Which is not new, by the way. They're pretty good at keeping secrets until they're ready to reveal them.
That doesn't mean you can't have your fair share of Cheyenne Jackson, however.

Highly respected producer worked on Joanna Hogg’s Archipelago and Sally El Hosaini’s My Brother the Devil.
British producer Gayle Griffiths has died following a battle with cancer. She was 49.
Griffiths, who died on Friday (Oct 23) in London, was perhaps best known for producing Joanna Hogg films Archipelago (2010) and Exhibition (2013), which both starred Tom Hiddleston, as well as urban drama My Brother The Devil (2012).
Sally El Hosani, director of My Brother The Devil, wrote on Facebook: “I can honestly say that the film wouldn’t have been what it was without her input and wisdom. She had real vision and believed in the film when many others in the industry didn’t. She was a fighter with a truly generous heart and empathy for the underdog.
“She was never one to make a fuss about her health and all through the filming of My Brother The Devil nobody would have guessed she was also having cancer...

October on Netflix brings "Beasts of No Nation," starring Idris Elba as a ruthless African warlord who trains child soldiers. Directed by Cary Fukunaga ("True Detective"), it debuts on Netflix and in theaters on October 16.
While a lot of great horror movies are leaving Netflix in October, some new ones are coming exclusively to the platform: "Manson Family Vacation," (starring Jay Duplass as a guy whose brother is obsessed with Charles Manson) and "Circle," in which 50 strangers are held captive and must choose which one of them will live. We're also excited for "The Nightmare," the buzzy documentary about sleep terrors from the directors of "Room 237."
And if you want more horror, there are new seasons coming to Netflix, including "iZombie," "The Vampire Diaries," "Supernatural," "Hemlock Grove," and "American Horror Story: Freak Show."

Season four of the Atx Television Festival (A Television eXperience, as they prefer to be called) kicked off Thursday, June 4th in Austin, TX, with a line stretched ‘round the corner for the sole opening night event, the premiere of Atx partner USA’s Complications. The double-length pilot of the series screened to a packed house and afterwards, Mark Peikert of Backstage Magazine moderated a brief Q&A with the series’ creator, Matt Nix, stars Jessica Szohr and Beth Riesgraf, and creative Mike Horowitz. From the very start, the atmosphere in Austin has been a relaxed, positive one. Badge pickup, at least when I was there, was straightforward with helpful volunteers steering the process and the line for Complications, which started forming well over an hour before the event, was friendly and low-stress.
The screening itself was underwhelming. I am confident there are many who will enjoy Complications, but I...

Pay no attention to the girl collapsing dramatically at center stage. She is as relevant to bigger picture of American Idol‘s 14th season as Kris Jenner is to the Mideast peace process. (And 10 points to Gryffindor if you asked, “What is a Kris Jenner?“)

Amy Schumer and Bill Hader in TrainwreckPhoto: Universal Pictures With Sundance just wrapping up and Berlin starting up in a few days, we are now immersed in the year-long barrage of film festivals. One such festival in South By Southwest. A few weeks back they announced the first seven films of their program, including the opening night film Brand: A Second Coming. Today, they have revealed the rest of the features to be shown in March (except for the midnight program), and some of it has me very excited. The bigger titles announced do not do much for me. Paul Feig's Spy, starring Melissa McCarthy, and the Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart starrer Get Hard leave a lot to be desired in terms of anticipation, as does a work in progress cut of Judd Apatow's latest film Trainwreck. I'm guessing an Apatow work in progress is probably around three and a half hours.

South by Southwest, the multi-faceted film, music and technology festival held annually in Austin, TX will feature such upcoming films as Paul Feig’s Spy, David Gordon Green’s Manglehorn, Alex Gibney’s documentary Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine, and Ondi Timoner’s Russell Brand profile Brand: A Second Coming as headliners in this year’s film festival lineup.
SXSW runs from March 13 to 21 in Austin and is now in its 22nd year. Variety has details of the 145 films and 100 world premieres bowing at this year’s festival. Brand, as previously reported, will be the festival’s opening night film.
Other notable titles on the list are the Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard, a rough cut of Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck, the directorial debut of 28 Days Later screenwriter Alex Garland, Ex Machina, and a new comedy by Michael Showalter, Hello, My Name is Doris.

Exclusive: Production has wrapped on Robert Duvall’s Wild Horses, which Voltage Pictures is selling internationally at the Afm.
Duvall stars in the Western alongside James Franco, Josh Hartnett, Luciana Duvall and Adriana Barraza.
Wild Horses is based on Duvall’s screenplay about the impact on a Texas rancher’s family when the Texas Rangers reopen an investigation into a missing person case.
Michael Mendelsohn of Patriot Pictures serves as producer alongside Rob Carliner and Duvall. Arnold Rifkin of Cheyenne Enterprises is executive producer.
“I had the distinct privilege and pleasure of working with some very talented actors on Wild Horses,” said Duvall, who previously directed The Apostle and Assassination Tango.
“It was very beneficial to have worked in Utah with these actors and wonderful crew. We could not have done the movie without the input from the Texas Rangers. Their expertise plus their natural acting abilities within the film made this a memorable experience.

The problem with reviewing The Prom is that it's kind of difficult to relate to. Being a decrepit dinosaur, in my day (last three words typed in the creaky voice of an old fart), there wasn't such a big deal with end of year proms – shindigs and hootenannys maybe, but tame stuff compared to today. 10 mile limousines can be seen from miles on end in the 21st century, ferrying tuxedo and frock-clad youngsters, who always seem to be dwarfed by the massive upholstery of the swanky poshmobiles.
I suppose it seemed to be a bigger thing in the Us, and was just one of those things that caught on in Britain a bit later. Proms are the stuff of movie legends, whether you're a fan of horror (Carrie), '80s brat pack flicks (Pretty In Pink) or heavily sideburned cheese (Grease), so it's only right that Buffy The Vampire Slayer...

All eyes were on Team Usher Tuesday when his five singers stepped up to The Voice mic and delivered gutsy performances that mostly shined, but left the Grammy-winning R&B singer with a tough choice on the final night of the playoffs.

Usher picked his top three to move on to the live shows in the final episode of the Playoffs on The Voice.
Tj Wilkins was up first, singing “Tell Me Somethin’ Good” by Chaka Khan & Rufus. Tj is a soul singer to his core, and the song shows off his strengths. Adam Levine compliments Tj for his ability to entertain, even while giving a somewhat subdued performance, and Shakira notes that the high note he hit at the end was the perfect trick to finish off the performance.
Melissa Jimenez decided to sing “Halo” by Beyoncé, a song choice that is certainly a risk for Melissa. In rehearsals, Melissa says she wants to “strip down” the track, hoping to let her vocals shine. Unfortunately for Melissa, she doesn’t have the power that Beyoncé has, though she nails the high notes towards the end of her performance. Adam and Shakira...

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were upset in their respective acting categories, but Breaking Bad won the night’s top prize, taking home its first Emmy for Best Drama. It was an unpredictable night in several major categories: In addition to The Newsroom’s Jeff Daniels taking home the trophy for Best Actor in a Drama and Boardwalk Empire’s Bobby Cannavale winning for Supporting Actor, Veep’s Tony Hale and Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Wever were surprise winners — Wever was so shocked that she practically ran off the stage without delivering an acceptance speech.

Enjoying a gorgeous day with her youngest son, Gwen Stefani went to the Los Angeles Zoo on Friday (May 10).
The No Doubt frontwoman rocked a gray T-shirt with "Everyone Loves an Italian Girl" on it, black jacket, ripped jeans, and a black fedora as she rode the carousel with a happy little Zuma.
Last week, the 43-year-old rock star had a bit of an embarrassing moment when she joined The Rolling Stones on stage as a special guest.
During the concert in Los Angeles, Gwen fumbled the lyrics of the Stones' classic, "Wild Horses," though Mick kindly hugged her and said, "Gwen Stefani, thanks Gwen" after the performance.

The Rolling Stones opened up their 2013 North American leg of their "50 And Counting..." tour Friday night in Los Angeles, but it was rather obvious special guest Gwen Stefani didn't quite get the memo.
The group's 23-song set at Staples Center kicked off with the UCLA Marching Band coming out before "Get Off My Cloud" but it was Stefani's guest appearance during "Wild Horses" which had many diehard fans talking afterwards. As shown in a YouTube clip, Stefani didn't quite know the lyrics to the classic, fumbling through a few lines in the second verse before Mick Jagger saved her from further embarrassment.
The lyrics are: "I watched you suffer a dull aching pain/Now you decided to show me the same/No sweeping exits or off stage lines/Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind." However seconds into the clip (which doesn't show the entire song) Stefani can...

The Rolling Stones kicked off their 50th anniversary tour — in their 51st year– with lots of action. That included guest stars Gwen Stefani and Keith Urban, who sang and played, respectively, on “Wild Horses” and “Respectable.” Jack Nicholson was among the stars spotted in the Staples Center. And the show was sold out, despite what some naysayers might think. The fact is, the Stones always sell out in the end even if they have slow starts to sales. That’s just the way it is. They sang “This may be the last time” last night, which may be true for once. And as far as the show itself goes: my experience seeing them last December in Brooklyn and then Newark was that show was quite amazing, the group was beyond expectations. Not only are Keith and co. superbly rocking as if they were in their 20s, but I challenge anyone...

Los Angeles, May 4 (Reuters) - The Rolling Stones rocked a packed house in Los Angeles on Friday on the opening night of their North American "50 and Counting" tour, but only after websites slashed ticket prices and the band released additional cheap seats at the last minute.
The 17-date tour is the veteran British rockers' biggest in six years and follows a handful of dates in London, Paris and New York at the end of 2012 marking 50 years since they burst on to the music scene at London's Marquee Club in 1962.
"We first played La in 1965. Thank you for coming to see us. We really appreciate it," frontman Mick Jagger said late on Friday during the show at Staples Center.

It was night one of the knockout rounds on ‘The Voice,’ slimming down Shakira and Adam’s teams by half. However, this week, it seems like all the judges were more focused on going against Blake!
Once again, The Voice stage was full of talent and competition, pinning the best against the best. However, it was much more difficult on the judges, of course, who were butting heads. Shakira, Usher and even his bromance buddy Adam Levine all really went head-to-head with Blake Shelton!
Team Adam Impresses Blake Shelton
“I think I like you as much as I can’t stand Adam Levine,” Blake told Team Adam’s country singer Amber Carrington after she opened the show with an amazing version of Avril Lavigne‘s ”I’m With You.”
Amber responded by telling Blake how much she loved him, which riled up Adam, causing him to remind her whose team she was on!

Someone on Adam Levine's team had to go up against Sarah Simmons in the knockout rounds on "The Voice," but why did it have to be Warren Stone? Why, oh why, indeed.
Surely Levine had a different sacrificial lamb to face slaughter up against Simmons on night one of the knockouts on Monday (April 29). On a night that saw Amber Carrington and Midas Whale get paired up in a rather "meh"-inducing knockout round, leaving Stone to the final round with Simmons was a strange move on Levine's part.
Things only grew more unfair when Stone proved to be a revelation by stepping outside the country genre for the first time with Cutting Crew's "(I Just) Died in Your Arms." His performance was the moment when an artist found his sound. He'd never sounded better, but even he must've known he was going home.
How couldn't he when...

With just one more week before the live playoffs in Season 4 of "The Voice," it's time for the knockout rounds, wherein coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher once again force one of their artists to compete another, deciding who stays and who goes. Who will make it to the live shows? Only time will tell.
First Knockout: Team Adam - Amber Carrington vs. Midas Whale
Songs: "I'm With You" - Avril Lavigne (Amber); "Higher Ground" - Stevie Wonder (Midas Whale)
Performances: Amber sounds incredible on Avril's overused and, at times, tepid track. It's nice to hear her step outside of the country zone we've heard her in thus far. I hadn't been too fond of Midas Whale prior to this, finding them to play more the role of backup artists in their battle rounds. It was nice to have them put down the guitars and put on a show.

It was a strong night of dueling performances for Team Adam and Team Shakira, which are now down to just four acts each after the first night of knockout rounds on The Voice.

For a show that’s all about good vibrations and international warm fuzzies, The Voice can sometimes be a frustrating mistress.
Take, for example, the Season 4 Knockout Rounds, where Adam Levine and Shakira all too often pitted their best singers against each other in sudden-death faceoffs, while allowing lesser vocalists to slip into the live voting rounds like mold on the underside of a package of blackberries. (Yeah, I know, that metaphor didn’t quite work, but at three bucks a container, you’d think those juicy little treats would last more than 24 hours in the fridge. Sheesh!)

Magnolia Pictures likes docs. The indie distributor has acquired Us rights to Greg "Freddy" Camalier's Sundance entry "Muscle Shoals," a documentary about the Alabama Muscle Shoals recording studio that spawned some of the greatest records of all time. The Bradford International Film Festival is typically an underground-friendly fest. This year appears to be no exception with two very special experimental film retrospectives, as well as a few modern underground-type flicks.
The 19th annual Biff will roll on April 11-21 at several locations around Bradford and Leeds in England, including the National Media Museum, Hebden Bridge Picture House, Hyde Park Picture House and other venues.
Biff is hosting a tribute to Stan Brakhage this year by screening the prolific filmmaker’s magnum opus, Dog Star Man, as well as a selection of his short films, from 1963′s legendary Mothlight to 1994′s Black Ice. There’s also going to be an epic-sized tribute/retrospective of experimental films from Austria, a country with a proud avant-garde filmmaking tradition that’s typically overlooked.

A quick recap... Muscle Shoals from director Greg "Freddy" Camalier) tells the story of the tiny Alabama town called Muscle Shoals, where... ... something miraculous sprang from the mud of the Tennessee River. A group of unassuming, yet incredibly talented, locals came together and spawned some of the greatest music of all time: “Mustang Sally,” “I Never Loved a Man,” “Wild Horses,” and many more. During the most incendiary periods of racial hostility, white folks and black folks came together to create music that would last for generations and gave birth to the incomparable “Muscle Shoals sound.” The...

Yes, I have too much time on my hands. Here's a new feature that was fun to put together (though quite time-consuming, which makes me worry about my ability to do this every month). I look back at rock, pop, and R&B albums that came out five years ago, ten years ago, etc.

Buffalo Springfield: Again (Atco)
There was much chaos surrounding the creation of this quintet 's second album. Bassist Bruce Palmer, in some ways the soul of the band, was unavailable due to a drug charge deportation, and a string of session players took his place. Stephen Stills, who saw himself as the leader of the group, was feuding with Neil Young, who considered himself an equal, and Young actually quit -- but returned. And that's without getting into the fiasco that was the band's management team.
