Mark Pritchard has recruited Thom Yorke of The Smile and Radiohead for a new single. Together, the two have unveiled the recording for “Back in the Game,” which was previewed live throughout Yorke’s 2024 solo tour. Take a listen below.
While the two have been frequent creative partners over the past decade, often appearing on each other’s records (like Pritchard’s 2016 single “Beautiful People”) and in live performance settings, “Back in the Game” marks their first proper collaboration. On the track, Pritchard digitally distorted Yorke’s distinct vocals with a H910 Harmonizer, lending an edgy, haunting quality to the song.
The visual was directed by longtime Pritchard collaborator Jonathan Zawada, a creator known for mixing digital and analogue techniques. “I was immediately struck by the deranged bassline that made me think of the final scene of Staying Alive where John Travolta is cockily strutting through the New York streets,...

The 2000s were the golden age of parody comedy films, with genre-specific lampoons taking broad swings at every trope under the sun. Did America need an absurdist distraction during the height of the Bush administration? Perhaps. The kings of the parody genre were unquestionably the Wayans brothers with their first Scary Movie which debuted in 2000. Now, the brothers are returning to the Scary Movie franchise with the sixth installment, after stepping away from the property after Scary Movie 2. During a recent appearance in BigBoy TV, Marlon Wayans gave an update regarding the release of the long-awaited sequel, revealing that Scary Movie 6 is eyeing 2026.
News of the trio coming back to the Scary Movie series broke back in October of this year. Marlon Wayans posted on Instagram a picture with the smiling Ghostface that now has over 1.2 million likes. Officially, the Wayans brothers have since spoken to Deadline and...

In the 2010s, few TV dramas were as popular as Homeland, and the Showtime series even featured Timothe Chalamet in an early-career role. The Emmy-winning show premiered in 2010 and centers on CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), who believes rescued Pow Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) was "turned" by Al Qaeda and plans to carry out a terrorist attack on the United States of America. From that premise, Carrie travels the world as she deals with a variety of international threats.
It wasn't long after Homeland that Timothe Chalamet saw his career skyrocket. He quickly became one of Hollywood's buzziest young actors to watch when he broke out in 2017's Call Me By Your Name. His role as the lovesick Elio Perlman earned Chalamet an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. From there, Chalamet has continued to impress in both arthouse films like The French Dispatch and Bones and All...

Thom Yorke began his solo tour of New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and Japan on Wednesday night in Christchurch, New Zealand, and played a handful of rarities, Radiohead and The Smile cuts, and even a brand new song called “Back in the Game.”
As Yorke alluded to in his recent interview with Double J — where he claimed he didn’t “give a flying fuck” about fans clamoring for Radiohead’s return — he took the stage with a minimalist set-up featuring several large synth machines and a microphone (and no drummer).
He opened the show with an acoustic rendition of the In Rainbows favorite “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi,” and continued with Radiohead’s “I Might Be Wrong.” Yorke went on to play several more Radiohead tracks, including “Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box” (which he debuted solo for the first time ever live), “Bloom,” “How to Disappear Completely,” “Daydreaming,” “Everything in its Right Place,...

Peter Jacobson is the rare character with a leg up on The Smiler in Smile 2. After a variety of smaller and supporting roles in everything from the John Travolta-led legal drama A Civil Action to Law & Order, Jacobson properly broke out with his turn as Dr. Chris Taub in the House cast from season 4 until the series finale. In the years since the Hugh Laurie-led drama ended, the actor has since gone on to expand his filmography with everything from Justine Bateman's Violet to Showtime's Ray Donovan, USA Network's Colony, NCIS: Los Angeles and Fear the Walking Dead.
In Smile 2's story, Jacobson stars as Morris, an E.R. technician who reaches out to protagonist Skye Riley as she begins experiencing the hauntings of The Smiler after having the curse passed on to her. Despite her reservations, Skye elects to meet with Morris, who...

Portraying the life of a diva pop star — or, at least, doing it convincingly — isn’t the easiest thing for a movie to bring off. There are too many real-life counterparts. The director Brady Corbet (“The Brutalist”), teaming up with Natalie Portman, got about halfway there in “Vox Lux.” Lady Gaga, drawing on elements of her own legend but shrewd enough to play the heroine of “A Star Is Born” as not a version of herself, created a character for the ages. More recently, M. Night Shyamalan seemed to make “Trap” mostly to let his budding musician daughter, Saleka Shyamalan, embody a pop singer — which she did with aplomb in concert, less convincingly in the backstage scenes. So when you hear that “Smile 2,” Parker Finn’s sequel to his effective if overloaded creep-out horror film of two years ago, is centered around a pop star, you may not exactly...

The Smile have released a brand new song called “Don’t Get Me Started,” alongside an accompanying music video directed by audiovisual artist Weirdcore.
“Don’t Get Me Started” was originally premiered live in concert during a string of shows earlier this year. Last week, The Smile released the song alongside another new track called “The Slip” on 12-inch vinyl exclusively in independent record stores. Now, “Don’t Get Me Started” is available to stream globally online.
Crafted by the visual artist Weirdcore, known for their collaborations with Aphex Twin, Radiohead, and The Caretaker, the video features a continuously transforming environment that shifts, stutters, mutates, and collapses. Color emerges and is quickly reverted back to black and white; pyramids, vague cityscapes, suited characters, and industrial backdrops appear often before a new environmental element creates a new scene altogether. The song’s haunting bridge is paired with colorful animations, elaborate landscapes,...

Guitarist and composer Jonny Greenwood is “out of danger” after intensive care medical treatment, according to a statement released by one of his musical projects The Smile.
Greenwood, who composed movie scores for The Phantom Thread, Spencer, There Will Be Blood and The Power of the Dog in addition to his longtime status as lead guitarist and keyboard player with Radiohead, will soon be returning home from hospital, but The Smile – which sees Greenwood on stage with Radiohead bandmate Thom Yorke – has cancelled forthcoming engagements. The statement read:
“A few days ago, Jonny became seriously ill from an infection that needed emergency hospital treatment, some of it in intensive care. Mercifully he is now out of danger and will soon return home. We have been instructed by the medical team in charge of Jonny’s care to cancel all engagements until he has had time to make a full recovery.

Lukas Gage’s mom didn’t mind sitting through watching her son’s sex scene in White Lotus. In fact, she actually had some positive feedback.
While appearing on Live With Kelly and Mark on Friday, Gage was asked by Mark Consuelos what his mom thought about the raunchy scene, involving an intimate moment with Murray Bartlett’s character, from the first season of Mike White’s hit series.
“She loved it,” said Gage. “She didn’t care. She was like, ‘Go for it!’ My mom is really cool and understanding about that kind of thing.”
Gage continued, “She says I have the cutest butt in Hollywood, too.”
Elsewhere in their chat, Kelly Ripa said that in 2021, Gage crashed Paris Hilton’s nuptials. Gage clarified, “It was an accidental wedding crash. I did not know it was Paris Hilton’s wedding.”

With Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood comprising two-thirds of the Smile’s lineup, the band is unlikely to ever escape comparisons to Radiohead. There’s a certain undefinable quality to the latter group’s music that courses conspicuously through the Smile’s Wall of Eyes, but there are also some more easily identifiable similarities between the two bands.
For one, most of the eight tracks here are built around drumbeats that help to anchor ephemeral melodies. On the title track, ambient synths ebb and flow, washing over the song’s acoustic guitars in a way that’s reminiscent of Radiohead’s “How to Disappear Completely.” Elsewhere, the surreal electric guitar of the eight-minute “Bending Hectic” serves as a touchstone around which fever-pitched synths continually circle, similar to those on albums like Hail to the Thief.

The release of a new Radiohead album is greeted in certain circles as a kind of holy occasion, a time to drop everything else going on in your life and commence Deep Listening.
We have not witnessed such a hallowed event since 2016, when Radiohead dropped A Moon Shaped Pool, and a new album after such a wait sure would be welcome. Earlier in the message, O’Brien apologized for not commenting on the heightened Gaza conflict earlier. “Like so many of you I have found the events of October 7 and what has followed too awful for words .. anything that I have tried to write feels so utterly inadequate,” he said. “Ceasefire now. Paul Thomas Anderson is reuniting with his Radiohead cohorts.
The Oscar-winning auteur helms Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood’s latest music video for band The Smile along with Tom Skinner. The Smile’s new track “Wall of Eyes” is from the eponymous album, set to be released January 26 by Xl Recordings.
Anderson directs the trippy black-and-white music video for “Wall of Eyes,” which centers on Yorke wandering through London. Yorke is shown alone in a pub, staring at a literal wall of eyeballs with a Lynchian twist, and later among dozens of versions of himself. The music video was filmed on location at The Mildmay Club and on the streets of London, England from October 24 to 26, 2023.
“Wall of Eyes” also features strings by The London Contemporary Orchestra, conducted by Hugh Brunt. The video is produced by Sara Murphy, Erica Frauman, and Shirley O’Connor, with Andy Jurgensen editing.

Annecy — Opening under the pall of Thursday’s knife attack, – which prompted a spirited show of solidarity and communal defiance at its opening ceremony on Sunday – this year’s Annecy Intl. Animation Film Festival has never been bigger. Creativity is exploding, from “Spider-Verse” and beyond.
Animation is flowering in India and Africa.
Yet studio work, much courtesy of streamer orders, may rebound, but never return to the halcyon levels of the last few years. Theatrical for most animation titles has yet to return, moreover – save for extraordinary mega-blockbusters such as “Across the Spider-Verse” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” 10 takes on this year’s Annecy, the biggest animation festival on the world:
The Big Plays
Three – and nearly four – high-profile U.S. movies world premiere at Annecy: Disney’s “Once Upon A Studio,” a 100th anniversary celebratory short; DreamWorks Animation’s comedy fantasy “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken”; and Netflix’s...

Pj Harvey has confirmed her first new album in seven years. Entitled I Inside the Old Year Dying, it’s due out on July 7th via Partisan Records. As a preview, Harvey has unveiled “A Child’s Question, August” as the lead single. Watch the song’s accompanying video below.
The songs featured on I Inside the Old Year Dying came together in “about three weeks.” Harvey then recorded the album live at London’s Battery Studio with longtime collaborator John Parish and producer Flood.
“I think the album is about searching, looking – the intensity of first love, and seeking meaning,” Harvey said. “Not that there has to be a message, but the feeling I get from the record is one of love – it’s tinged with sadness and loss, but it’s loving. I think that’s what makes it feel so welcoming: so open.”

Pj Harvey has announced the release of a new song called “A Child’s Question, August.” It’s set for release on Wednesday, April 26th. Below, you can watch a preview of the song’s accompanying music video directed by Steve Gullick.
Harvey previously revealed her intention to release a new album this summer. Her last full-length, The Hope Six Demolition Project, came out in 2016.
Speaking to Rolling Stone last year, Harbey said she was inspired by “soundtrack writers” like Jonny Greenwood, Mica Levi, Hildur Guðnadóttir, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, as well as Thom Yorke’s work with The Smile, Anna von Hausswolff’s All Thoughts Fly, and Bob Dylan’s 2020 effort Rough and Rowdy Ways.
She also said that her multi-year archival campaign — in which she reissued her previous albums and associated demos on vinyl — compelled her to “go back to demo’ing on my four-track again.”

Benjamin Woods, the bear-like, baritone-voiced frontman of indie band The Golden Dregs, lets out a big sigh. “Ahhh,” he says, before taking a big gulp of Guinness. “We’re going to have to talk about lockdown, I guess.” While we are thankfully now at a point where pandemic chat isn’t creeping into every single conversation, it’s impossible to properly talk about his new album, On Grace & Dignity, without going there.
Written by Woods in the depths of the pandemic, the record is a warm, dreamy paean to the grit and gorgeousness of Cornwall’s capital, Truro. It’s the seven-piece’s third album, and their first since signing with British label 4Ad, home to bands such as Pixies, Big Thief and The National. Woods, whose gruff tones and wry, observational lyrics have earned him the moniker of the “Cornish Leonard Cohen”, started work on it from his south...

Halfway through A Light for Attracting Attention, the Smile’s debut album, Thom Yorke flashes a smirk: “Don’t bore us, get to the chorus,” he drawls slowly almost without melody over ambient synths and downtempo piano on “Open the Floodgates.” Then he doubles down, whinging, “We want the good bits, without your bullshit, and no heartaches.” These lines are the sorts of gormless heckles he and fellow Smile member Jonny Greenwood have likely heard for decades in their other band, Radiohead, ever since they ventured into more experimental terrain on 1997’s Ok Computer.

With Arcade Fire, Kendrick Lamar, Sharon Van Etten, Wilco, and more, it’s quite a month for new music and amongst our most-anticipated albums is the debut from the Radiohead side project The Smile. Comprised of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner, their album A Light For Attracting Attention will drop this Friday but they’ve now released a new music video for the single Thin Thing.
Directed by Cristóbal León & Joaquín Cociña, who helmed the stunning animation The Wolf House and the recent short The Bones, it’s a vivid stop-motion operating with its own fascinating dreamlike logic.

Already in the midst of his Radiohead side project The Smile, Thom Yorke dropped a surprise new song titled “5.17” on streaming services without warning Sunday.
While it’s unclear why the piano ballad suddenly appeared — reps for Yorke did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment — its arrival coincides with Sunday’s premiere of the third episode of Peaky Blinders’ sixth season, which Yorke and band mate Jonny Greenwood reportedly contributed new music to.
“Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood contributed some original stuff,” Peaky Blinders director Anthony Byrne previously told NME.
