Bleecker Street recently acquired North American rights on the upcoming horror film, which is set during the Palaeolithic period – 45,000 years in the past!
We’ve been told, “It’s a tense, emotional, and incredibly crafted film; so much creativity went into making the paleolithic world – including the entire language spoken in the film, which was created specifically for this by a linguist and an archaeologist.”
In The Origin, “A small boat reaches the shores of a raw and desolate landscape. A group of six have struggled across the narrow sea to find a new home. They are starving,...

In the 54 years since Diahann Carroll (“Julia”) blazed a trail as the first Black female recipient of a TV Golden Globe, the list of small screen Black actresses who have won the favor of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has grown to include 12 more names, including 2023 comedic and dramatic champs Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”) and Zendaya (“Euphoria”). While this roster has long since covered TV movies and both continuing program genres, no Black woman has yet been awarded a Golden Globe for a limited series performance. There is a decent chance of that soon changing, however, given the winning potential of possible 2024 Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress contenders Uzo Aduba (“Painkiller”) and Dominique Fishback (“Swarm”).
Possible Golden Globes newcomer Fishback stars on Amazon Prime Video’s “Swarm” as Dre Greene, a mentally unstable young woman whose unhealthy obsession with a Beyoncé-esque pop star drives a wedge between her and her foster sister,...

The theatrical market across the Nordics recovered in 2022 without reaching pre-pandemic levels, driven predominantly by U.S. fare, such as “Top Gun: Maverick,” the biggest hit in Denmark, Finland and Sweden, “Minions: The Rise of Gru” No 1 in Iceland, and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” No 1 in Norway.
As always Danish movies secured the biggest national market share (30), followed by Finland (27), Norway (23) Sweden (19.3), and Iceland (10). Revenues were often more equally split across a larger number of titles, reaching record levels in several territories, as a result of Covid, that created a bottleneck of new releases.
Denmark
After a quiet start of the year with theaters locked down for the first two weeks due to Covid, ticket sales kickstarted again and ended up at 10.23 million, which is 49 up over 2021, but 20 down on pre-pandemic levels.
Revenue-wise, the Danish market hit Dkk 994.67 million (144.3 million), up 52 from the 2021 annus horribilis for cinemas, but just 16 down on the 2019 trawl,...

"Out of Darkness" finds Sabine growing frustrated with Hera and Kanan’s secrecy. The Mandalorian demands to accompany Kanan on a rendezvous with a mysterious contact, but the two find that their meeting place is infested with deadly fyrnocks. They escape, and Sabine learns to have faith in Hera’s leadership. At the Art and Science of Lucasfilm panel, the Star Wars Rebels team spoke with local students. Art director Kilian Plunkett showed the design process for Chopper and Kanan; it begins with 2-D illustrations, and both characters went through significant evolutions. Chopper originally had a very Artoo-like dome, and Kanan did not always have his trademark ponytail and goatee. Sculpted maquettes finalize the process, showing how the character looks in three dimensions. In “Out of Darkness,” Hera and Sabine take center stage. Pablo Hidalgo tells Lucasfilm’s Andi Gutierrez that Hera is “the true believer of the show. She...

Fox have had quite a week. After announcing they had secured Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., they scored further points by treating fans to a teaser trailer. The legagy of Halo video game franchise hangs high over the sense of anticipation for Destiny, the company's next video game. The success of Halo was bigger than anyone, including its owner Microsoft, ever dreamed of: not only did Halo become one of the handful of video games that attained mainstream attention, it remains just as popular ten years after the first game as it did a console generation ago.

As promised, Bungie (the creators of the Halo franchise) officially revealed Destiny today, a new first-person shooter where players take part in an always-on persistent-world.
Destiny‘s story is set on a future version of Earth long after an unknown enemy destroyed most of human civilization. Prior to the attack, humans had managed to spread out over the entire system in a “bright and hopeful time” known as the “Golden-Age”.
No one remembers what exactly happened or who attacked us, but they do know that those who survived “own their lives to the Traveler” — a mysterious sphere that continues to orbit low over the Earth “keeping silent watch”.
In the years that followed “the collapse of the Golden-Age” humans built the last remaining city on Earth in the shadow of the Traveler. Now they have “begun to venture back into the wilds, only to find that [they] are not alone.” Strange...

Finally relenting their endless barrage of spoiler-ific images on our eyes, the creative team behind “Prometheus” have decided their latest reveal to be through the film's soundtrack details, and boy, do they give a clear look at the storyline's direction. Warning: Spoilers ahead for those wanting to go in blind!
Reading straight through like writer Damon Lindelof's base outline for the film, the tracklisting to the soundtrack composed by Marc Streitenfeld boasts some pretty interesting names indeed. Kicking off the Ost are tracks “A Planet” and “Going In,” which reflect the initial mission and contact of the space crew involving Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron, points well trodden in the film's trailers so far. However, we then reach a track named “Discovery,” and after that it basically lays out every beat of the second and third acts (Track 17 is of particular interest).

Ghostface returns for a belated killing spree in Scream 4. But has time been kind to Wes Craven's slasher franchise? Here's Ryan's spoiler-free review...
More than a decade has gone by since Ghostface last terrorised the teen residents of Woodsboro, and much has changed since. We’re now in an age of social networking, citizen journalism, smart phones and Jedward.
The Scream franchise has always attempted to monitor the changing landscape of teen culture as well as the conventions of slasher horror, so it’s unsurprising that this latter-day entry tackles all these technological and social changes head-on (well, apart from Jedward), while simultaneously poking fun at its own patchy lineage.
In its matryoshka-doll like opening sequence – which, by the way, I found the most fun and surprising since the original movie way back in 1996 – a character mocks the Stab franchise, the fictional film series inspired by the earlier killings in Woodsboro.

Since I seem to be on a sort of nostalgia kick lately, let me add one more to the mix. Now I will admit openly that I have never been a fan of Diana Ross (so go ahead and shoot me..), but I have to say that there is one thing she’s done that absolutely impressed me and convinced me that she had the goods to be a truly wonderful actress (maybe even a great one), and I’m talking about the now sadly forgotten 1994 ABC TV movie Out Of Darkness.
In the film Ross played a once promising medical student who battles with schizophrenia for almost 20 years. Eventually after therapy and intense work, she’s seemingly “cured” and starts a new life, even getting involved in a romantic relationship with a new man. Unfortunately, when everything seems to be going great, she falls again into the abyss, losing everything.

Author Rice 'Quits' Christianity
Interview With A Vampire author Anne Rice has turned her back on Christianity after becoming troubled by recent controversies surrounding the church.
The writer, whose gothic novel inspired the hit Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise movie of the same name, has been a follower of the faith for years and released her memoir, Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession, in 2008.
But on Wednesday, Rice stunned fans on her Facebook.com page when she posted a note which read: "In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control.
"In the name of... Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen."
Rice admits she has harboured doubts about her religion for the past two to three years following the revelations of certain scandals involving the church, particularly allegations of child abuse, and she felt compelled to make a personal stand by declaring she was no longer a Christian.
She tells the Associated Press, "I believed for a long time that the differences, the quarrels among Christians didn't matter a lot for the individual, that you live your life and stay out of it. But then I began to realise that it wasn't an easy thing to do.
"I came to the conclusion that if I didn't make this declaration, I was going to lose my mind."...

HollywoodNews.com: Anne Rice, author of Interview with the Vampire, is widely regarded as the original queen of vampire fiction, but more recently, she’s better known as a Christian writer and outspokenly devout Catholic, having made a public (and controversial) re-conversion to Christianity several years ago. This week, however, Rice announced on her official Facebook page that she is once again leaving the church.
