Cinematographer Elemér Ragályi, one of the greatest talents of modern Hungarian cinema, died last Thursday.
Ragályi was born in 1939 in Hungary, where he graduated at the Academy of Theater and Film with a degree in cinematography.
As a cinematographer, he worked with directors such as István Gaál, István Szabó Gyula Gazdag, Judit Elek, Pál Sándor and Ferenc András, innovating in order to give a distinctive look to iconic films.
In 1970, Gaál’s “The Falcons” won the Jury Prize of the Cannes Film Festival, in large part thanks to the camerawork of Ragályi.

In 1990, he received the television prize, the CableACE Award, of the American Society of Cinematographers for the HBO production “The Josephine Baker Story,” starring Lynn Whitfield. He was also nominated for Ace awards for his work on “Max and Helen” and “Red King, White King,” starring Tom Skerritt and Helen Mirren.

Teslagrad 2, slated for launch some time this spring, offers a fresh take on its puzzle-platforming predecessor while still maintaining its core gameplay style. The Teslagrad sequel comes from developer Rain Games, which outside the electromagnetic platformer has released titles like Viking Chess and Mesmer, and publisher Modus Games, which has had a hand in releasing games like Cris Tales and Soulstice. Teslagrad 2 puts players in the shoes of a new female protagonist who will slowly acquire an increasing amount of unique abilities on a quest to get back home.
Instead of Teslagrad's Russian inspirations, the upcoming sequel draws from old Norse environments while still keeping the familiar steampunk slant. However, it uses a lighter hand than some other steampunk-themed games, still incorporating a large amount of more natural imagery throughout its expansive world and its inhabitants. Shirley Douglas, who is best known for her work as an actress as much as she is known for her activism and advocacy, died on Sunday after complications with pneumonia. She was 86.
Douglas’s son, actor Kiefer Sutherland, took to Twitter to announce the unfortunate news. “Early this morning my mother, Shirley Douglas, passed away due to complications surrounding pneumonia (not related to Covid-19),” Sutherland wrote. “My mother was an extraordinary woman who led an extraordinary life. Sadly she had been battling for her health for quite some time and we, as a family, knew this day was coming. To any families who have lost loved ones unexpectedly to the coronavirus, my heart breaks for you. Please stay safe.”...
