Mehul Kumar, the man who gave the cinegoers hits like Tirangaa, Krantiveer and others is a troubled man today. The reason? Well, he has been arrested after an Andheri Court issued a non-bailable warrant against him in a case of funds' misappropriation. The case cites back to the year 2006 when he was dragged to the court by Pen's Jayantilal Gada, after he allegedly misused a loan that was given to him in building a mall in Jamnagar, whereby he was supposed to utilize that money to make a feature film. Pen's lawyer Anjana Baxi said that the Supreme Court has already rejected Kumar's anticipatory bail application. Meanwhile, Jayantilal Gada said that they are happy that Mehul Kumar (who is presently lodged in Arthur Road jail) has been taken into custody.

Director of yesteryear hit films like Krantiveer and Tiranga has been facing some serious financial trouble for some time now. With legal cases for nonpayment of dues mounting up, Mehul Kumar seems to be heading for a storm. Adding to his woes is a recent ruling by a Jaipur court that sentenced him to a two-year term in a cheque bounce case. However, he was later released on bail.
The court's ruling came following a complaint lodged by Manmohandas Mundada and Sunil Bansal, stating that Kumar had borrowed Rs. 50 lakhs from Mundada and paid the amount through a cheque that was not honoured. While in a separate case, another cheque, worth Rs. 10 lakhs that was given to Sunil Bansal too was not honoured.

June 28, 2010: If not for anything else, a (miniscule) section of audience concerned about the industry and trade were wondering if the nostalgic value attached to the ‘Krantiveer – The Revolution’, sequel to commercial hit of the mid-90s, ‘Krantiveer’ (Nana Patekar, Dimple Kapadia), would help the film gain some eye balls at the least. However, this was not the case to be as the film didn’t find any takers whatsoever on its release. The film was greeted with empty halls all over though single screens were comparatively (and strictly relatively) better than multiplex screen.

With Krantiveer: The Revolution on the brink of release, we at BollySpice believe it is inherently importantly to look back at the initial film, which bought not only Mehul Kumar, but also Nana Patekar and Dimple Kapadia to the spotlight. The film bought about a revolution of its own and highlighted the talented Nana Patekar, who is capable of mouthing dialogues that no one but the actor can. Whether it is his innate style and confidence, it is also his conviction as an actor, which really sets him apart from the rest. As a director, Mehul Kumar outdoes himself. He can easily be deemed as one of the first directors who wasn't afraid to call a bluff and expose a number of corrupt politicians using his film as a medium. We now take a look back at the original Krantiveer.

Bollywood shares a love-hate relationship with Indian politics; they love to depict the level of corruption and contempt associated with Desi Raajneeti. Politically charged films in Bollywood generally discuss power, bribery and dishonesty associated with this particular line. Back in the day, politically charged films were unaccepted and quickly dismissed by Indian audiences. More recently this has changed especially since more of the youth in India are looking to make a difference in modern day India. And of course, these very films create much ruckus among real-life leaders, who jump at the chance to rapidly take a stand claiming that Indian politics is uncorrupt and honest. This June, socio-political fans are in for a huge treat with not one but two politically charged films hitting cinemas: Prakash Jha'sRaajneeti and Mehul Kumar's Krantiveer 2: The Revolution. Both Prakash Jha and Mehul Kumar are known for their keen interest in Indian politics.

Mehul Kumar's first installment of the superhit Krantiveer took audiences for a real surprise in the nineties. The film jutted out outstanding performances by Nana Patekar and Dimple Kapadia. Even the likes of Atul Agnihotri and Mamta Kulkarni managed to gain much recognition because of the film. And now, over a decade later, Kumar is about to release his second installment to the first: Krantiveer – The Revolution.
The film is set to do just the same as the first: talk about corruption and the revolution that the film desperately needs especially today. The sequel will see Kumar's daughter Jahan Bloch making her debut as Nana and Dimple's daughter who takes on their legacy to "clean up the system" after their death.

‘Krantiveer – The Revolution’, a sequel to Mehul Kumar’s 1994 ‘Krantiveer’, has been pushed back by two weeks for a June
25 release from its scheduled date of June 13 due to technical reasons.
‘We needed more time for publicity and marketing and that’s the reason we have pushed the film ahead by two weeks,’
Kumar, who has directed the sequel, said in a statement.
‘We are not in competition with any of the bigger films, but we preferred a gap instead of coming at the tailend of a
bigger movie,’ added Kumar.
‘Krantiveer – The Revolution’ is preceded by big budget outings like ‘Raajneeti’ and ‘Raavan’ on June 4 and June 18
respectively.

* Not just lead actors, even supporting actors are turning film-makers. While actor Neeraj Vora has already directed a few films and actor Paresh Rawal is a successful television producer, actor Rajpal Yadav has also decided to try his hand at film-making. Rajpal is not only writing and producing his first film called Ata-pata Lapata, he is directing it as well, besides playing the main role in the film. In fact, Ata-pata Lapata is almost 90% complete. * Mehul Kumar, who has completed the sequel to Krantiveer called Krantiveer - The Revolution, had initially decided to release the sequel on 11th June. But the veteran has decided to shift the film to a latter date - 25th June. With Raajneeti arriving on 4th June and Raavan confirmed for 18th June, Mehulbhai realized that bringing the film on 11th June would only harm the film. Hence, 25th June. Meanwhile, Mehul Kumar's next film is targeted at the youth.
