Writing and filming sessions for this movie commenced around 1993, but its release was delayed because the film's original distributor, Buena Vista, did not know what to do with it. Finally, Buena Vista and Touchstone Pictures bought the rights to the film in 1994, and it was officially released in 1995.
The song that Helmet plays at the club is "Symptom of the Universe," which Black Sabbath originally recorded in 1975. Ozzy Osbourne, who plays the band's manager, was Black Sabbath's original lead singer.
When the Jerky Boys prank call the mob, they identify themselves as "Frank Rizzo." Frank Rizzo was the Police Commissioner for the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1967 to 1971, then served as its mayor throughout the rest of the 1970s (1972-1980).
Vincent Pastore and Suzanne Shepherd would go on to act in supporting roles on Les Soprano (1999). Susan Blommaert, Joe Lisi, David Pittu, and Brian Tarantina would all appear in guest roles on the show.
When John G. Brennan prank calls the mob, he exclaims, "Get me Tony, I said!". This demand is an interpolation of his line from the prank call "Super Across the Way" from The Jerky Boys' 1993 self-titled debut album, where he yells "Get Brett Weir, I said!".
