It seems like every generation of Saturday Night Live mints a whole slew of new comedy superstars. Despite the eighties being rather slow in that regard, in the nineties, SNL once again recaptured the zeitgeist. For the first time since its seventies heyday, the stars of Saturday Night Live were becoming big screen superstars, often in movies produced by SNL’s master impresario, Lorne Michaels, such as Wayne’s World, Tommy Boy, and a few others. This era gave us Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, and so many others.
However, the 90s era of SNL was also rocked by the untimely death of two charter members, Chris Farley and Phil Hartman. Chris Farley always idolized the original cast, particularly John Belushi. Still, in his efforts to live up to his idol, he dove head-first into a food, drug and alcohol addiction that would kill him before the decade was out,...

When he spent years as one of the music business' most powerful people, Sean "Diddy" Combs accomplished a lot. Diddy gained many famous friends, became rich enough to provide for his many kids, and he had many people working for him. However, after a series of allegations led to his homes being raided, many people spoke out about Diddy and his partying past.
When fans talk about reality shows like Big Brother, they typically discuss things like the show's many twists, what happened to the winners, and which seasons were the best. The thing that most Big Brother fans don't talk about, however, is the fact that the show's legend Janelle Pierzina once had a unique complaint about Diddy's partying.

There’s always a flurry of activity when a celebrity arrives at a premiere — camera bulbs flashing, fans screaming their name. But when Simone Biles stepped onto the blue carpet on Wednesday night to debut the second part of her revealing Netflix documentary “Simone Biles Rising,” those screams were a few octaves higher-pitched.
That’s because the courtyard of the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood was packed full of young girls who dream of someday being like Biles — the greatest gymnast of all time. Taylor Swift’s anthem “Look What You Made Me Do” blared through the speakers (a subtle nod to the floor routine that won Biles her second all-around gold medal) as she made her way to sign autographs and take selfies with the youngsters.

On Friday, Oct. 19, Variety partnered with the Santa Fe International Film festival to celebrate its 10 Screenwriters to Watch. All 10 recipients gathered at Santa Fe’s Lensic Performing Arts Center for a lively conversation about their path to screenwriting and the work that earned them their place on Variety’s annual list of the most promising up-and-coming scribes in the entertainment industry.
The panel began with a conversation about the films that first made them want to be screenwriters — and in some cases, exposed them to the idea that writing for film and television was a job they could pursue. Among their responses, “Fancy Dance” co-screenwriter Miciana Alise named John Huston’s “Annie” (“Carol Burnett just takes up the whole screen”), while her partner Erica Tremblay remembered “The Last Emperor” making a lasting impression; Noah Pink (“Eden”) said “Jurassic Park;” Tory Kamen (“Eleanor the Great”) and Nora Garrett (“After the Hunt”) agreed that “Juno,...

“Big Brother” 26 crowned its winner, ending one of the CBS competition series’ most unpredictable seasons yet.
After 90 days of 24-hour surveillance that included fierce competitions, betrayals and plenty of AI-themed twists, this season’s jury of houseguests voted for the victor among Season 26’s Top 3 players, with all the action taking place during the two-hour finale event Sunday night. In the end, Chelsie Baham was named the winner of “Big Brother” 26, earning the $750,000 prize.
Viewers also had their say during the season finale, as America voted for their favorite houseguest and named Tucker Des Lauriers, a 30-year-old marketing and sales executive. He earned a $50,000 cash prize.
Chelsie, a 27-year-old nonprofit director, was among a competitive final three houseguests that also included Makensy Manbeck, a 22-year-old construction project manager, and Cam Sullivan-Brown, a 25-year-old physical therapist. The jury voted unanimously for Chelsie. Makensy, who made second place, earned $75,000.

In the real world, Phil Hartman could never have nearly cuckolded Arnold Schwarzenegger — the late, great star was too good of a guy to ever embarrass that beta.
When comparing Chris Columbus’ filmography of family-focused Christmas comedies, the critically panned but mildly commercially successful 1996 movie Jingle All the Way doesn’t quite command the nostalgic adoration of, say, a Home Alone or a Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. But while Columbus only served as the producer and rewrote the script of Jingle All the Way, the film about competing fathers, Arnold Schwarzenegger and stand-up legend Sinbad, desperately (and violently) trying to secure the hottest toy on the market in time to appease their young sons before Christmas certainly has Columbus’ comedy DNA embedded within it.

The Big Brother 26 season has been a wild one, and that’s just the first four weeks.
One of the reasons the BB26 cast has become noteworthy is Angela Murray from Utah.
Angela was a real estate agent before entering the Big Brother house, and eagle-eyed viewers recognized her from appearances on other shows.
She was on an episode of The Price Is Right with Drew Carey, and Angela was featured with her family on an episode of Dr. Phil.
Angela was no stranger to television when she joined the Big Brother cast, leading some fans to accuse the producers of planting her in the game.
The pushback on social media has become so intense that the Big Brother bosses had to weigh in during a recent interview.

If you’re a child of the nineties, chances are you grew up loving Sinbad. Also known as David Atkins, Sinbad began his comedy career as a contestant on Star Search before nabbing his breakout role on the Cosby Show spin-off, A Different World, where he played Coach Walter Oakes; he served as a mentor to the main cast, who all played students at the fictional Hillman College. His distinctive look made him instantly identifiable, and it wasn’t long before he started showing up in movies, with roles in Necessary Roughness and Coneheads.
His career was unusual because most people went to TV after their movie careers cooled down. For Sinbad, it was the opposite. His solo TV show, The Sinbad Show, was a flop, but shortly afterwards, his movie career went into high gear, with him appearing in a string of hit movies. All CBS needed to win Thursday was an hour of “Big Brother.” It helped that last night was among the blandest primetime periods of Summer 2021. Hey, it’s almost over. CBS was first in ratings with a 0.5 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 2.5 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Big Brother” at 8 p.m. put up a 0.9 rating and 3.8 million total viewers. Reruns followed: In order, the re-airings were episodes of comedies “The Neighborhood” and “B Positive,” and one of drama “Bull.” Houseguest Derek X was evicted from “Big Brother” Season 23 on Thursday. Claire was able to stay put by a vote of 5-2 in Derek X’s favor. Or, we suppose, not his favor. ABC, NBC and Fox tied for second in ratings, each with a 0.3. ABC was second in total viewers with 1.6 million, NBC was third with 1.4 million and Fox was fourth with 1.2 million.

CBS has slotted a two-night premiere for the Julie Chen Moonves-hosted Big Brother. The summer reality series will return with hourlong episodes on Tuesday, June 25 and Wednesday, June 26 at 8 Pm.
Following the two-night premiere, Big Brother will air Sunday, June 30 at 8 Pm with its regular three-weekly-episode format. Starting Wednesday, July 10, the show moves to Wednesdays and Thursdays (9-10 Pm) with the Sunday broadcast remaining at 8 Pm.

Days after CBS promised there would be “future consequences” for inappropriate behavior on “Big Brother,” another season 20 housemate had a serious lapse in judgement during the show’s 24/7 online feed Thursday night.
In the feed, which was captured by TMZ, Kaitlyn Herman used the N-word in a conversation with two other houseguests. Herman was repeating a line from Drake’s “0 to 100” song when she said, “I did got zero to 100 n—-, real quick.” In the video, Herman appears to quickly realize her mistake as her voice trails off to almost a whisper.
Herman’s gaffe comes just two days after CBS addressed two prior instances of “inappropriate behavior and offensive comments” during the filming of the reality show’s 20th season. On Tuesday, the network promised “future consequences” should the behavior continue.

The results of the first Bb App Store twist will be unveiled on Sunday’s episode of “Big Brother 20,” but the reward and punishment have already been handed out inside the house. And thanks to the live feeds, which started after Thursday’s episode, we already know the recipients of the fan-voted twists.
Faysal, who received the fewest number of votes, got the first Crap App punishment and now has to eat vegetarian ham whenever he gets a Hamazon Delivery. This result is hardly surprising — Fayshal has a very low-key personality and barely registered in the premiere episodes. Then you see his bicep and you’re like, “Oh, right, he’s the muscle guy.” Luckily, this is the worst thing that can happen to him this week since Swaggy C saved his group on the first night.

The twist for season 20 of “Big Brother” that was announced on Wednesday’s premiere has gone live and it is already twisting in the wind. While it is complicated, think of it as last year’s “Den of Temptation” updated. #BB20 fans can vote for their favorite houseguests who will be rewarded while those with low vote totals will be saddled with a punishment.
To cast your 10 votes, you’ll need to learn your way around the CBS Messenger Bot, which is easier said than done. It kept crashing in the first few hours that it was live. Voting will close each Thursday at noon Et/ 9 a.m. Pt and the winner will be announced on Sunday’s show, when voting will start up again.

Shrieks, lies and “bro!”s abounded Wednesday as 16 new Houseguests entered the Big Brother house to kick off Season 20.
Like all good seasons of Big Brother, the lying began immediately. Steve Arienta, for example, decided it was best to conceal his past as an undercover narcotics detective for the NYPD, opting instead to masquerade as a mild-mannered mechanic and family man. (To be fair, that last part is actually true. And the dude loves bubble baths.)

If you thought the “Shazaam” phenomenon was over, what with the fleeting nature of the never-ending meme cycle, then you may have mixed feelings about an April Fool’s video released by College Humor yesterday. Presented as two minutes of found footage from the film in question — a nonexistent and vaguely racist conflation of “Kazaam,” in which Shaq plays a genie, and Sinbad’s ’90s oeuvre — the video asserts that “Shazaam” does in fact exist.

Comedian David Adkins, better known by his stage name Sinbad, has starred in many films in the 90s, including “Necessary Roughness,” “Houseguest” and even the Kenan & Kel vehicle “Good Burger.” But one movie he didn’t star in is “Shazaam,” about an incompetent genie who grants wishes to two children. However, that hasn’t stopped hundreds of people online from claiming that the film is real, believing that they saw it sometime in the 90s.

When Nickelodeon first launched in 1977, it seemed like little more than a child's answer to Saturday Night Live and MTV. In fact, it wasn't until Nickelodeon debuted the Canadian sketch series You Can't Do That on Television in the U.S. that this nascent network began to gain real traction amongst fans of all ages. Before too long, the basic cable channel became quite popular, especially with the launch of it's Nick At Nite line-up featuring such "classic" shows as Alf, The Facts of Life, Growing Pains and many others throughout the years. Viewership certainly proceeded to explode, turning it into one of today's favorite hubs for nostalgia of all kinds.
Nickelodeon had officially arrived in the 1990s, taking its signature brand to the big screen with Nickelodeon Movies in 1995. It wasn't until 1997, though, that this film division made its most iconic and beloved movie of all time: Good Burger.

Good news: YouTube has announced that it has added over 3,000 new movies available for Internet surfers to rent on the site. The bad news: Most of them are D-list schlock like Curse of the Komodo and Land of the Little People. Now that might actually be good news for those of you who are bad movie aficionados (I’d count myself one of them, but I’d prefer my awful cinematic experiences to come complete with a Joel, Tom Servo, and Crow), but it seems a missed opportunity. Yes, the website offers quality fare like Ghostbusters and Charade, but part...

SXSW Film Review
Hesher
Complete Coverage of SXSW Film 2011
Director: Spencer Susser, Writers: Spencer Susser & David Michôd
Loud music. Pornography. Burning shit down – just a few of Hesher’s favorite things. And it’s just this kind of anarchy that’s needed to shake the burdens of sorrow from a boy and his father.
Cast: Natalie Portman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rainn Wilson, Devin Brochu, Piper Laurie
Who’S It For? Anyone with both the patience (or taste) for both 80′s Metallica and art-house storytelling.
Overall
Hesher is an odd creature. Like its unpredictable title character, played with beautiful ruthlessness by a surprising Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the movie fluctuates with its severe tones, and in turn its unpredictability becomes captivating. At times the film can be quite sad, as unexpected loss glooms over the family in which Hesher randomly shacks up with. On the other hand, it can be hilariously crazy, with...

Disclaimer: I know that the Sinbad movie in question doesn’t involve the comedian Sinbad, but I had to post this picture. Why? Because the man starred in First Kid and Houseguest, two of my favorite flicks growing up. Much respect to the son of a preacher man.
Alright, onto the actual news; Variety has announced that Morningside Entertainment is planning on bringing Sinbad the sailor back to the big screen; they have optioned the rights to comic book series Sinbad: Rogue of Mars from Bluewater Productions and are hoping to hammer it out in time for a 2012 release. The comic, which was meant as a continuation of the classic 50′s and 70′s Sinbad movies (The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger), follows the sailor as he and his trustworthy ship crew get transported to Mars in order...

Liam Hemsworth is currently the only guy, or girl for that matter, cast in "Arabian Nights," set to start shooting this September. The "Last Song" star admits that it's going to take the right kind of action star to play his pal in the flick, Sinbad. So does that mean he thinks that comedian, "Houseguest" star and "Celebrity Apprentice" castoff Sinbad need not apply?
"I'm the first person cast. They're looking at people at the moment," he said of the flick in an interview with MTV today. "Um… yeah people have said that to me actually," he added when asked if they'd consider Sinbad to play the role of, well Sinbad. "I don’t know. You know someone action hero-ish [might be more fitting]."
We'll an online petition going to ensure that Sinbad plays the role he was named for. In the meantime, Hemsworth told us that the film will certainly play up some...

Need a little help identifying the newest batch of "celebrities" on "Celebrity Apprentice?" We've got you covered.
The newest cast of NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice" is as follows (from left):
Carol Leifer: A stand-up comedian and author, she is said to be the "real Elaine," as the character of Elaine on "Seinfeld" was partially based on her. She recently became a vegan because she felt that as a Jewish lesbian, she "wasn't part of a small enough minority."
Sinbad: A stand-up comedian and actor, getting his start on "Cosby Show" spin-off "A Different World." He has also appeared in "Houseguest" and "Jingle All the Way."
Maria Kanellis: A WWE wrestler and a model, she is the on-screen love interest to Santino Marella in the soap-opera-for-men world of professional wrestling.
Rod Blagojevich: Blago is currently awaiting trial for scheming to auction off Illinois's vacant U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder.
