Red roses and white roses bloom only because they are missed

Zhang Ailing's works are always full of tragedy, each one is shrouded in a tragic atmosphere, this one is not about the tragedy of women, but about the "tragedy" of Zhenbao's life. When it comes to the novel "Red Rose and White Rose", the most profound image of people is the following passage.

Probably every man has had two women like that, at least two. Married a red rose, and over time, the red one changed to a smear of mosquito blood on the wall, and the white one was still "the bright moonlight in front of the window"; married a white rose, the white one is a grain of rice sticky on the clothes, but the red one is a cinnabar mole on the heart. One is a holy wife, and the other is a passionate lover.

Great drama that keeps your attention to the end.

I watched this movie while I was in Taiwan, Keelung, and I regret the fact that I have never seen it in Dutch cinema, not even in the Film theaters (where they show movies from the theaters around the world, beside the hollywood blockbusters).

This movie is touching and tells more about the struggle of the two women the man is in love with than the man himself. It is one of the classic books of Taiwan and it is a must for everyone who likes Asian cinema or is hooked on drama. Made in 1994 it looks like one of those classic movies from the 30-ies, and it kept my attention till the last moment.
