      Charchters not true to original

Overall the quality behind the stories are following the series from 1969. Almost the same, with some changes.

But for some reason the charchters has changed to the worse, ruining the entire show.

The crooks, are now a pair of idiots. The cops, are now a pair of idiots. Mrs Pruselius, is portraited as pure evil. The horse, a walking corpse. And Pippi, lacking the soul of what makes her to her.

Stay away from this show. Stay with the series from 1969.

      This Movie Was Great

When i was little, about 6 years old, this movie used to come on TV all the time (T_T *boo who* then it stopped). I never seen the TV show before then but i saw 1 episode. The Episodes and the movie were good. I love how the movie was like a full version of the episodes which is really good especially for the kids who never seen the shows. The songs were so catchy. If you didn't like them YOU'VE GOT SOME SERIOUS ISSUES! I especially loved Plutiflikation, What shall I do today, and Recipe for life. I still sing them now. This must be and amazing movie for me to remember them from so long ago. This movie is a wonderful children's movie. Point Blank. (I'm not a child anymore and i still love the songs)

One of the most recognized characters in children's literature gets brought to life in the world of animation.

Pippi Longstocking, one of literatures beloved characters, was brought to life in animation 25 years ago. I remember first watching Toon Pippi when her animated movie first aired on Disney Channel. However, I don't recall watching her animated series back then. I figured that there'd be a TV series of Pippi's adventures though, but I didn't begin checking it out until the mid 2000's.

You'll fall in love with this hilarious ginger of a tomboy from Astrid Lindgren's classic storybooks. You'll also be amazed at her crazy antics and what she can do, especially with her super human strength.

Nelvana International has brought many literary characters to life in animation, and Pippi is one of them. Pippi's animated movie is what I recommend along with the series, of course.

Close to the bottom of the barrel

I can't believe I'm saying this but this has got to be the animated film equivalent to Dragon Ball Evolution! The animation is trash, the story is stupid, the musical numbers are a joke, the characters(especially Pippi)are complete morons and pacing is almost rapid fire. But not in a funny way or exciting way, more of a "SLOW DOWN MOVIE!" kind of way.

I can't recommend this to anyone. And I really mean anyone. Not for the fans of the book, not for fans of animation and not even in a way were it's bad it's good. No, it's so bad it's bad! Very, VERY bad!

Simply stay away from this piece of garbage. If you want to see Pippi Longstocking animated, stick to the animated TV-series. It's not a masterpiece, but it's better than this souless hour waster.

I'm downgrading this to -50 because it totally ruined the TV series

I was totally enjoying the animated TV show of "Pippi Longstocking" in the sixth grade (yes, my sister did talk me into it!). I thought the animation was flat but still colourful and that the voice actors did their job well (two of whom included Melissa Altro who does Muffy on "Arthur" and squeaky-voiced Wayne Robson who plays that hack Mike on "Red Green Show"), and so I thought I shouldn't miss the movie when it comes on TV. Now, I can see why it went directly to video.

The stupid songs that underline this are atrocious, the animation is much flatter, the plots are recycled and it just goes nowhere! I don't think Gordon Pinsent or Catherine O'Hara were stupid enough to participate in this!!! My advice to you all is this: AVOID THIS TRASH ALL TOGETHER! How dare they butcher Astrid Lindgren's beloved red-headed character! Ever since I saw the movie, I can never watch the great animated TV show anymore! Thanks for nothing!

      • Trivia
This was not the first time an animated adaptation of Astrid Lindgren's "Pippi Longstocking" books was ever attempted. In 1971, Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki and collaborator Isao Takahata had planned to produce a feature-length animated film, "Pippi Longstocking: The Strongest Girl in the World" ("Nagakutsushita no Pippi: Sekai Ichi Tsuyoi Onna no Ko"). The two men traveled to Sweden to do location scouting for production research, especially to the town of Visby, where Fifi Brindacier (1969) was filmed). They then had a meeting with creator Astrid Lindgren to discuss the project with her. Unfortunately, after their meeting, their rights were denied, and the project was canceled. Today, beautiful watercolored "image boards" (storyboards) are among all that remain of the aborted project.
      • Goofs
During the song "Pluttification", when the children lift Pippi in the air on the chair, her hair is dark brown instead of red.
      • Quotes

Pippi Longstocking: Why am I walking backwards? It's a free country, isn't it? Anyway, for that matter, let me tell you that in Egypt, everybody walks backwards, and nobody thinks it's the least bit strange.
