Le Monde perdu : Jurassic Park

In Just 12 Days, ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Surpassed Its 56% Rotten Tomatoes Predecessor at the Domestic Box Office
Image
The 2025 box office lineup hasn't been more stacked than its current iteration, with several huge titles battling for financial supremacy. Last week, the arrival of Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth, helmed by the safe sci-fi hands of Gareth Edwards, blew away the competition, becoming the biggest opening of any movie this year, outperforming Jared Hess' A Minecraft Movie by $5 million.

Despite losing its top spot this weekend to the inevitable success of James Gunn’s Superman, Rebirth has still had another huge financial weekend, which has seen it overtake one of its own predecessors after just 12 days in theaters. That movie is the second installment from 1997, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, which achieved $229 million domestically, a total now overtaken by Rebirth's $232 million as of the time of writing. However, when it comes to global revenue, the latest installment is yet to pass the second, with just under $100 million still separating the pair.

'Jurassic World Rebirth' Roars Onto Digital Streaming This August
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest sequel in the Jurassic universe and the official reboot of the franchise (though why Universal stuck with "World" instead of launching a new sub-brand is a matter of debate), has turned into one of the biggest films of the year after a theatrical run that's still ongoing. Though fans have flocked to theaters and the film has accomplished one of the most successful runs in the franchise, there are some who prefer to catch it at home. We have some good news for those fans, as Jurassic World Rebirth already has a digital streaming release date.

Per the site DVDs Release Dates, Jurassic World Rebirth will be released on digital platforms on August 5, 2025, giving fans a chance to watch one of the most exciting adventures of the year in the comfort of their home. The film follows a group put together by a big pharma...

Jurassic World Rebirth Worldwide Box Office: Hits Major Milestone & Becomes 6th Highest-Grossing Film In The Franchise
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth Worldwide Box Office: Hits A Major Milestone In Its 2nd Weekend(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Jurassic World Rebirth took a massive leap in its second weekend, crossing a significant milestone and beating Jurassic Park III as the 6th highest-grossing film in the overall Jurassic Park franchise. Scarlett Johansson’s movie will be a blockbuster against an estimated production budget of $180 million. However, it did witness a harsh decline of -61% from last weekend when it opened in the theaters. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The movie has been hit hard by the new DC flick Superman, and this will further impact Rebirth in the upcoming weeks. However, a strong start helped boost its financial status in its opening weekend only. It has already grossed 2.9 times more than the estimated budget in two weeks. However, it is not tracking to earn $1 billion worldwide.

Jurassic World Rebirth North America Box Office Day 10: Crosses This Major Milestone & Beats Captain America 4
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth North America Box Office Day 10 Update ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Scarlett Johansson is the highest-grossing Hollywood star after a roaring debut last weekend. Jurassic World Rebirth has crossed a new milestone at the North American box office on its second Friday. It has beaten Captain America 4’s domestic haul and outpaced Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible 8. It has also beaten the domestic haul of Jurassic Park III and is on track to beat The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Keep scrolling for more.

The movie is also on its way to beating How to Train Your Dragon’s collection at the North American box office. It would have ruled the theaters isolated at the top spot, but that will not happen soon as the new DC movie, Superman, hits the screen. The fans are lauding James Gunn‘s film and will give great competition to ScarJo’s sci-fi flick.

5 Movies I Wish George Lucas Had Directed Apart from Star Wars, Ranked
Image
George Lucas is the visionary behind the Star Wars franchise, a globally renowned and beloved space opera saga that remains popular to this day. Over the years, Lucas directed several installments in the franchise and oversaw most of its creative direction until selling its rights to Disney in 2012.

Given Lucas’ involvement with the franchise, he rarely directed movies outside the space opera saga, which is such a shame, given the director’s unique visual style and filmmaking abilities. Here are five movies I wish Lucas directed outside Star Wars that could’ve become glowing additions to his filmography, and here’s why.

5. Contact (1997) A still from Contact (Credit: Warner Bros).

Contact is a sci-fi movie directed by Robert Zemeckis and based on the 1985 novel of the same name, written by Carl Sagan. It follows Dr. Eleanor “Ellie” Arroway, who is chosen to make first contact after discovering evidence of extraterrestrial life.

Jurassic World Rebirth Box Office Quickly Climbs Franchise's All-Time Chart With New Milestone
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth has continued to climb up a major chart for the franchise. The movie is the sixth sequel to Steven Spielberg's 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park. The standalone story stars Mahershala Ali, Scarlett Johansson, and Jonathan Bailey as members of a team who are sent to extract dinosaur DNA on an island full of mutant genetic experiments.

The Jurassic World Rebirth release kicked off on the Wednesday of Fourth of July weekend, taking No. 1 at the domestic box office with a 3-day domestic debut weekend of $92 million and a 5-day holiday debut of $147.8 million.

Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, Jurassic World Rebirth is projected to earn a 3-day domestic total of $38.7 million by the end of its sophomore weekend. This will bring its cumulative domestic box office gross to $230.8 million.

In addition to seeing it become only the fifth movie of 2025 to pass the $230 million domestic milestone, this...

Jurassic World Rebirth completed one week at the theaters and has already set a few records. Scarlett Johansson’s film has already amassed $350 million+ at the worldwide box office. Keep scrolling for the deets.

There are seven films in the Jurassic Park series, including the Scarlett Johansson-led latest release. It reportedly has a production budget of $180 million and has earned around twice that amount. Jurassic World Rebirth Features The Worst Product Placement In The Franchise
Image
There is so much I could rant about in "Jurassic World Rebirth." I could talk about the script, which seems to forget its own exposition the moment it's spoken, only to repeat it in the next scene (and the next and the next). I could also talk about the former Blackwater mercenary character who's played essentially like the mess-around delinquent in a teen dramedy. Or ... I could talk about the Snickers bar.

Let's talk about the Snickers bar, shall we?

Rarely has a film ever led so immediately and egregiously with its product placement as "Jurassic World Rebirth." The opening scene -- one that, in retrospect, seems entirely unnecessary given the featured dino's tiny role in the rest of the movie -- shows technicians in an InGen genetics lab caring for a wide range of mutant dinosaur hybrids. One of the scientists entering the containment cell for the massive (and...

Steven Spielberg's $1 Billion Sci-Fi Masterpiece With 91% on Rotten Tomatoes Is a PVOD Hit 32 Years Later
Image
If the latest PVOD charts are any indication, dinosaurs will never go out of style. 32 years after wowing audiences in theaters, Jurassic Park has once again become a hit, this time on iTunes.

According to FlixPatrol, as of July 9, Jurassic Park is ranked No. 9 on iTunes' Top Movies list. Steven Spielberg's 1993 sci-fi classic is in good company, as two of its sequels, 2015's Jurassic World and 2018's Jurassic World Dominion, are slightly above it at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Based on Michael Crichton's 1990 novel of the same name, Jurassic Park follows a group of visitors as they struggle to survive and escape Isla Nublar — home of Jurassic Park — after a catastrophic power failure shuts off the safety precautions, allowing the de-extinct dinosaurs, including the vicious T-Rex and velociraptors, to roam free.

Jurassic Park was led by Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill, who respectively portrayed Drs. Ian Malcolm,...

Jurassic World Rebirth Director Gareth Edwards Got Some Crucial Advice From Steven Spielberg
Image
Director Gareth Edwards is no stranger to taking on beloved franchises that people feel very strongly about. After only making one ultra-low-budget movie in the form of "Monsters," he was tasked with helming 2014's "Godzilla," which kicked off the MonsterVerse as we know it. He then moved right into a galaxy far, far away with "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," which was a massive hit. So, making "Jurassic World Rebirth," the seventh chapter in the long-running dino property, shouldn't have been too intimidating. Except, this one carried the Steven Spielberg factor.

Spielberg directed the original "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," staying on to produce all of the other sequels. So, anyone who takes on one of these movies will be dealing directly with Spielberg, one of the most beloved filmmakers to ever do it. Fortunately, Edwards had a very good experience working with him on "Rebirth,...

Jurassic World Rebirth North America Box Office Day 6 Update( Photo Credit – YouTube )

Jurassic World Rebirth roars at the theaters and is loud and clear with the $300 million+ global opening this weekend. The movie is tracking to hit the $400 million milestone worldwide this upcoming weekend. It has now surpassed a key milestone at the North American box office. Keep scrolling for more.

The sci-fi adventure movie recorded the third-biggest overall debut in the Jurassic Park franchise. It collected $147.8 million on its five-day opening weekend, beating the debut collection of Jurassic World Dominion’s $145.1 million. The film received mixed reactions, but that is not stopping it from becoming a blockbuster. Recently, we have seen movies with good ratings fail at the box office. For example, Thunderbolts* and Ballerina received good ratings but failed financially.

Steven Spielberg Had A Simple But Important Note For Jurassic World Rebirth
Image
As the seventh installment in a multi-billion-dollar dinosaur franchise created by Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton, "Jurassic Park Rebirth" had its creative work cut out for it. On the plus side, there seemed to be little chance that director Gareth Edwards and writer David Koepp (the scribe behind "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World: Jurassic Park") could do any worse than the dino-locust debacle of "Jurassic World Dominion," but, even though that film grossed over $1 billion like the two "Jurassic World" movies before it, there was a sense among critics and discerning fans that the property was becoming not just stale but even too ridiculous by its own dino-standards.

Bringing in Edwards seemed like a smart move, given his background in visual effects and gift for conjuring vast physical scale. However, the key to the new movie's creative success would lie in doing something completely different from the plodding, critically...

Jurassic World Rebirth North America Box Office Day 5: Opening Weekend Update(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Jurassic World Rebirth shatters industry’s projections and opens with one of the biggest collections in the Jurassic Park franchise. The film’s opening weekend surpassed Minions: The Rise of Gru’s as the biggest 4th of July opener of all time at the domestic box office. This is also expected to challenge a few of her MCU movies and become one of the biggest blockbusters in ScarJo’s career.

'Jurassic World Rebirth' Writer Explains Recapturing 'Jurassic Park's Tone and Reveals the Scene That He Pushed to Include in the Film
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest installment of the adventure franchise created by Steven Spielberg in the early '90s, is set to arrive in theaters today. The film aims to capture the audience's attention after the last entries received mixed-to-negative reviews and Universal Pictures decided to freshen up the franchise. A new director and a new cast were essential when reviving the Jurassic universe, but it wasn't enough. Franchise supervisor Steven Spielberg decided to also bring back David Koepp, a Jurassic veteran, for screenwriting duties. Naturally, Koepp felt that the return was challenging, but at the same time, he understood what he had to do: he just had to "recapture" the tone of Spielberg's 1993 classic.

Koepp sat down with IndieWire to talk about his return to the Jurassic films. The writer was responsible for adapting Michael Crichton's books into the films Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1993 and 1997, respectively.

Box Office Round-Up: 'Jurassic World Rebirth' Opens With Record-Breaking Weekend
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth roared into theaters and easily won the Fourth of July weekend box office because there simply wasn’t any competition to legitimately challenge the latest feature film in Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment's beloved franchise. Director Gareth Edwards’ flashy dinosaur movie made an estimated $147.3 million over its opening weekend to secure the top spot in domestic theaters, and on the surface that appears to be an extraordinary number. Unfortunately, when investigated more deeply, the harsh reality is that it took five days for the Scarlett Johansson-led Jurassic World Rebirth to reach that amount of money. So, when one weighs its three-day total ($91.5 million) against the rest of the movie saga, it becomes clear the latest Jurassic entry simply doesn’t measure up to the previous trilogy, which starred Chris Pratt.

There have been seven Jurassic feature films in total, and all the entries in the...

Jurassic World Rebirth Finds A Surprising New Meaning For The Franchise's Dinosaurs
Image
In Steven Spielberg's groundbreaking 1993 blockbuster "Jurassic Park," the billionaire behind the titular hoped-for attraction, John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), is practically buzzing with giddy anticipation at how successful his venture will likely become. He crows that his team who helped bring dozens of extinct species of dinosaurs back to life "spared no expense," and that everything in the park boasts "absolutely spectacular designs." Although the small group of experts Hammond has invited to tour the park are indeed impressed with what he's done, having strong emotional responses to the sights of actual living dinosaurs walking the Earth, they begin to have serious doubts as reality begins to set in. Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) sums up the potential folly of Jurassic Park succinctly: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

"Jurassic Park," both the first movie and Michael Crichton's source novel,...

Jurassic World Rebirth Is A Cry For Help From A Series That's Run Out Of Ideas
Image
When Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Michael Crichton's bestselling sci-fi/horror novel hit theaters on June 11, 1993, the entire motion picture medium was forever changed. James Cameron had given us a tantalizing taste of how seamlessly computer-generated imagery could be integrated into a motion picture via "The Abyss" and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," but no one was prepared for Spielberg and his visual FX team (which included Cameron collaborator Dennis Muren) to blast the technology seemingly decades into the future by creating photo-realistic dinosaurs. That moment where Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum get their first look at a living, breathing brachiosaurus induced a new kind of awe in moviegoers, and it remains a blessing and a curse that Spielberg was the man at the helm.

The blessing is that the bar was raised so dizzyingly high for photoreal CGI that, in the immediate wake of the film's blockbuster success,...

Jurassic World: Renaissance (2025)
What’s Your Favorite Jurassic Park Sequel?
Jurassic World: Renaissance (2025)
This weekend marks the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth, the seventh installment in the long-running Jurassic Park franchise. While reviews so far — including ours — have been pretty mixed, audiences seem unfazed. The film is pulling in impressive numbers over the holiday weekend, proving that moviegoers are still very much on board with dinosaurs on the big screen.

Of course, most people agree that the original Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg, remains the gold standard. None of the sequels have matched its critical acclaim or cultural impact. But with six follow-ups now in the can, it begs the question: which of the sequels is the best?

That’s the focus of this week’s poll. We want to know what you think is the strongest entry after the original. Is it The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Spielberg’s own darker and more action-heavy follow-up? Or perhaps the stripped-down, survival-focused Jurassic Park III?...

Jurassic World Rebirth Betrays The Franchise With One Awful Choice
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Jurassic World Rebirth."

"Jurassic World Rebirth" is a strange movie. On the one hand, it's a lean, back-to-basics dino flick and is certainly better than the atrocity that was "Jurassic World Dominion." On the other hand, it's still a rather disappointing movie and illustrates the inherent limits of the larger "Jurassic" franchise with its basic, dull plot and uninteresting characters.

At its worst, "Rebirth" shares a lot of similarities with the worst impulses of the American MonsterVerse movies. Specifically, it spends too much time focusing on humans rather than the creatures audiences are here to see. It also feels the need to force some unnecessary kid characters into the story, which mostly ends up distracting from the stuff that's actually fun and cool.

Even at its best, however, "Rebirth" struggles to do a whole lot with its most fascinating concepts, like an island full of mutant dinosaurs.

What Did You Think of Jurassic World Rebirth?
Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Ariana Richards, BD Wong, Joseph Mazzello, Martin Ferrero, and Bob Peck in Jurassic Park (1993)
A new entry in the Jurassic Park / Jurassic World franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth, is now in theatres. We’ve heard what JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray had to say about the movie – you can read his 5/10 review at This Link, or listen to it in the video embedded above. Now we want to know, what did you think of Jurassic World Rebirth?

News of the new Jurassic World movie first hit back in January of 2024, when it was revealed that the screenplay had already been written by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, returning to the franchise for the first time since The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The project was assembled in a mad scramble after that, with Godzilla and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards ending up at the helm. This new Jurassic World movie won’t be featuring any returning lead characters from the previous Jurassic Park / Jurassic World movies,...

This Two-Time Oscar Winner Should Have Passed On Jurassic Park Rebirth
Image
"Jurassic World Rebirth" is not, as far as studio tentpoles go, overly long. Though it's the second-longest of the seven films in Universal's dinosaur franchise at 133 minutes, it isn't anywhere in the punishingly interminable league of "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning" or "F1." Given that we expect summer event movies to give you a little extra bang for your buck (particularly when Steven Spielberg is on board as an executive producer), a slightly inflated runtime shouldn't be taken as a sign of trouble in and of itself.

Unfortunately, "Jurassic Park Rebirth" is frustratingly bloated -- particularly for a film blessed with such a streamlined premise. Scarlett Johansson stars as Zora Bennett, a veteran mercenary hired by a Big Pharma executive to quarterback an extraction mission on Ile Saint-Hubert, one of InGen's abandoned dino islands near the equator. The objective is to obtain blood samples from three different...

Scarlett Johansson’s Jurassic World Rebirth is headed for a roaring opening weekend at the box office in North America. 'He's Allergic to It' : What Steven Spielberg Wanted Jurassic World Rebirth to Avoid
Image
The Jurassic Park franchise is back and has a new installment out in theaters, Jurassic World Rebirth. Although it features a brand-new cast, it brings back the original screenwriter, David Koepp.

Koepp has collaborated with Steven Spielberg on multiple projects, aside from the dinosaur franchise. However, he's now back to the Jurassic franchise for a new era. Although Spielberg didn't direct the new entry, which had Gareth Edwards at the helm, the legendary filmmaker was a producer and was very involved in the project. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Koepp revealed the most important thing for Spielberg in Jurassic World Rebirth.

Speaking about his longtime collaboration with the director, Koepp explained Spielberg is still excited about finding something new for the franchise. "I’ve done 10 or 12 movies with Steven over the years, and I think his favorite part is making them up. The part where you say, 'Hey, do you...

Jurassic World Rebirth Has Rotten Tomatoes Critics and Audiences Divided After Breaking Box Office Records
Image
The Jurassic Park franchise has just returned with a new installment, Jurassic World Rebirth. The film comes after the second trilogy of films, and features a new series of lead stars.

Jurassic World Rebirth premiered to underwhelming reviews from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but the audiences didn't agree. The critics gave the new entry a "rotten" score of 51%, but the audiences gave enough positive reviews for a 72% approval score. This marks the fourth-best rating in the Jurassic Park franchise.

The best-rated entry remains the 1993 original. The Steven Spielberg-directed film has the critics and the audiences in agreement with a stunning 91% approval score from both camps. The second-best-rated in the franchise was the soft reboot, 2015's Jurassic World, which featured a new cast led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who returned for the two subsequent sequels, as well.

The remaining installments didn't impress. The 1992 sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park,...

'Indiana Jones' Writer Talks Continuing the Franchise on Streaming Amid Reboot Rumors
Image
One of the many writers who have participated in the Indiana Jones franchise has now addressed the possibility of continuing the journey of the archaeology professor and adventurer following recent rumors that a reboot is in the works. Screenwriter David Koepp is no stranger to the world of blockbuster IPs, and his latest movie, Jurassic World Rebirth, has shown signs of reviving the dinosaur franchise. Could the intrepid adventurer now get the same treatment?

Koepp is currently enjoying the recent release of Jurassic World Rebirth, his official return to the universe created by Steven Spielberg. The film solidly revives the spirit of the first two Jurassic Park movies, which isn't a coincidence considering Koepp wrote 1993's Jurassic Park and 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park. However, these are not the only Spielberg movies he has worked on. Koepp also wrote 2005's War of the Worlds and 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’: Instant Oscar odds
Image
When Jurassic Park opened in 1993, it marked a historic leap for visual effects and was rewarded as such at the Academy Awards the following years, where it won three Oscars including one for Best Visual Effects.

Thirty-two years later, visual effects and the film franchise that Jurassic Park spawned look quite different. The six movies that followed Park racked up a total one nomination and zero wins.

But could the relatively stripped-down Jurassic World Rebirth be the movie that breaks the Ice Age of a cold streak that's been around since 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park? The reviews certainly lower expectations for any surprise above-the-line noms, but there are a few categories where the franchise could show signs of life.

Best Visual Effects

It's the category where the series has been the strongest, accounting for half of its four total nominations. If Rebirth has any hope of an Oscar nomination,...

The latest entry in the Jurassic Park / Jurassic World franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth, just reached theatres yesterday (you can read our review at This Link and let us know what you thought of the movie Here), but even before the movie was released, rumors were already swirling that Universal Pictures is hoping to get director Gareth Edwards and star Scarlett Johansson to come back for a sequel. Maybe those conversations will officially begin once the weekend box office numbers are in, but during an interview with Screen Rant, Edwards said that he hasn’t talked to anyone about a sequel. Yet.

News of the new Jurassic World movie first hit back in January of 2024, when it was revealed that the screenplay had already been written by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, returning to the franchise for the first time since The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The project was assembled...

Jurassic World Rebirth Has Already Broken a Franchise Box Office Record After Just 1 Day in Theaters
Image
One day into its theatrical release, Jurassic World Rebirth is already breaking records. The latest entry in the long-running dinosaur franchise has just posted the best opening day for the series, but there's a catch.

Per Deadline, Jurassic World Rebirth earned $30.5 million on Wednesday. While not the best opening day ever for the franchise, it is the best opening day for a Jurassic movie that was released on a Wednesday, besting the $19 million that Jurassic Park III made back in 2001. Among opening days for the franchise, regardless of the day of release, Rebirth comes in at No. 4, behind 2015's Jurassic World ($81.9M), 2022's Dominion ($59.5M), and 2018's Fallen Kingdom ($58.5M). Rebirth is currently looking at a $80M 3-day, $133.5M 5-day domestic opening weekend.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, Jurassic World Rebirth picks up five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, following Scarlett Johansson's Zora Bennett, a skilled covert operations expert,...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Writer David Koepp on Making the New Movie Less, Well, Goofy
Image
The Jurassic franchise was, clearly, ready for a new era.

The previous Jurassic World film, 2022’s Dominion, garnered the weakest reviews and poorest box office of the sequel trilogy (though still managed to top $1 billion). Some thought Universal’s dino franchise might be put into cryo storage for a decade. But executive producer Steven Spielberg wasn’t ready to let his creation go extinct, and tapped his longtime go-to screenwriter David Koepp to design a new adventure in the saga — Jurassic World Rebirth, which opens this week and stars Scarlett Johansson as a mercenary seeking to retrieve some dino blood samples on a forgotten island that has ties to the original park.

Koepp co-wrote the beloved 1993 first film (based on Michael Crichton’s bestseller) and penned its sequel, 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park. His other credits include 1996’s Mission: Impossible (and has quite an entertaining idea for a new sequel for that franchise,...

How to Watch the ‘Jurassic Park’ Movies in Order
Image
In 1993, Steven Spielberg released a cinematic adaptation of Michael Crichton’s hit novel “Jurassic Park.” Co-written by Crichton and David Koepp, Spielberg’s film remains in high esteem to this day, one of the most rewarding and brilliantly constructed blockbusters in cinema history. Beyond the beauty and fear of the dinosaurs themselves (portrayed through a mix of digital and practical effects that holds up to this day), the film provided poignant commentary on the dangers of mass consumption, expansion and commercialization.

“You read what others had done, and you took the next step,” Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm says in one of the film’s most iconic scenes. “You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunch box, and now you’re selling...

Movie Review: Jurassic World: Rebirth
Image
The fourth entry in the “Jurassic World” franchise, Jurassic World: Rebirth, continues the cycle of decline of the overall franchise that began with the release of Jurassic World in 2015. Sadly, this new film feels like a retread of stories and ideas that were handled more effectively over thirty-one years ago when the original Jurassic Park was released.

Taking place five years after Jurassic World: Dominion, the Earth has proven to be inhospitable to the reconstituted dinosaurs. Those that do still exist, live primarily in an isolated environment along the Earth’s equator. This area is largely off limits to humans until a small group of explorers are tasked by a pharmaceutical company to secure DNA samples from three of the largest known “currently” living dinosaurs in an effort to create miracle drugs that could bring about the end to various diseases plaguing humankind.

It goes without saying that the “company...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ About To Get Loud With $260M Global Opening Over Independence Day Stretch – Box Office Preview
Image
It’s Jurassic World Rebirth all the time, until DC Studios/Warner Bros’ Superman opens next week, and the rumbling starts offshore today in Hong Kong and tomorrow in the U.S., UK, China, Germany, Korea, Spain and Italy; the overall global outlook by Sunday being $260M on the high end.

Broken out we’re seeing $130M+ abroad with the dinos dropping into Australia, Brazil, Mexico and the Netherlands on Thursday. On Friday, they head to France and India, among others. In total, a big footprint of 82 markets overseas with Japan joining in August.

The Universal and Amblin theatrical release will hit stateside tomorrow (not tonight) at 4,000 theaters before upping to 4,300 by Friday. The studio doesn’t really believe in previews on discount Tuesday and has generally launched hard on Wednesday. The five-day forecast is $120M-$130M.

6 Scariest Moments in the ‘Jurassic Park’ Franchise While You Wait for ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’
Image
I’ll never forget the first time I watched Jurassic Park. While I didn’t have the privilege of attending its original theatrical run, I remember begging my mom to rent the movie on VHS and then watching it three times in a row in utter amazement. Naturally, I became obsessed with this blockbuster Michael Crichton adaptation and soon sought out the source material for more dinosaur-related thrills.

Like many other kids at the time, I was unprepared for the novel’s dark tone and copious amounts of gore (not to mention all of the hard sci-fi elements). However, I soon grew to appreciate how one of the biggest summer blockbusters of all time was actually based on a weird little horror book. And in honor of the latest entry in the Jurassic Park series promising to bring genetic terror back to the films after years of tamed velociraptors, we...

David Koepp on Why It Took Him Almost 30 Years to Return to the ‘Jurassic Park’ Franchise He Helped Create
Image
It’s been 28 years since David Koepp wrote a screenplay about dinosaurs. As you probably know, Koepp was the screenwriter (along with author Michael Crichton) for Steven Spielberg’s original hit “Jurassic Park.” He then wrote the script for Spielberg’s 1997 sequel, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.”

And then, well, he was out of ideas when it came to dinosaurs. When Joe Johnston’s “Jurassic Park III” came around, it was time to let someone else take a shot at it. Koepp has stayed peripherally involved in the “Jurassic World” movies since, offering some notes here and there when asked, but as Koepp told IndieWire, there was nothing of real consequence.

This all changes with “Jurassic World: Rebirth.” It was Spielberg himself who called Koepp and urged him to return to the cinematic world he helped create over 30 years ago. And what Koepp found appealing was that it seemed like...

The Funniest Death by Dinosaur in Each ‘Jurassic Park’ Movie
Image
Deep in the jungle of Isla Nublar, game warden Robert Muldoon instructs a group of park employees on how to handle the transfer of a deadly Velociraptor. As he grips his shotgun, Muldoon shouts orders like “Pushing team, move in there,” and “Loading team, step away,” while warning “I want tasers on full charge!” But when the gatekeeper goes to open the container to put the raptor in its cage, the dinosaur rams the back of the container, moving it backwards and causing the gatekeeper to fall. Muldoon tries to save the gatekeeper, but fails. The man is devoured by the ferocious creature.

After six movies — including three good ones — the opening scene of the first Jurassic Park remains one of the most gruesome in the franchise. But to assure audiences that death by dino can be fun, too, director Steven Spielberg made the very next death in the first movie far more lighthearted.

Jurassic Park Movies Ranked By Worldwide Box Office: 4 Films With $1 Billion+ Collection – Can You Guess The Topper?
Image
Jurassic Park Films At The Worldwide Box Office ( Photo Credit – Prime Video )

The Jurassic Park movies or the Jurassic World films are among the popular franchises in Hollywood. Six films have been released, and a seventh one is gearing up to hit the screens this Friday. It is expected to have a benchmark opening at the domestic and global box office, but before that, we will be ranking the worldwide collections of the six films in the Jurassic Park franchise. Keep scrolling for more.

Steven Spielberg directed the first film in the franchise, released in 1993. He also directed The Lost World, released in 1997. Sam Neill and Laura Dern were part of two movies from the Og trilogy, and they returned in 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, led by Chris Pratt. Also, Jeff Goldblum’s Dr Ian Malcolm is a recurring character in the franchise.

However, Jurassic World Rebirth is a reboot,...

Jurassic World Rebirth Rotten Tomatoes Score: Scarlett Johansson’s Reboot Mauled By Critics Harder Than The Dinosaurs
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth Rotten Tomatoes Score ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

The Scarlett Johansson-led ambitious Jurassic World: Rebirth is about to enter the theater screens. With less than a week to its Independence Day premiere, the Gareth Edwards directorial had been inciting speculations in its hesitance to lift the review embargo in a timely fashion. And the reputation has preceded its next misadventures! The Jurassic Park sequel hasn’t been warmly received by critics. Its susceptibility to repetitiveness over originality has weighed it down.

The Jurassic Era Nears Its End? Here’s What Rotten Tomatoes Says

Based on 98 reviews, Jurassic World: Rebirth currently holds a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. When it comes to Jurassic Park sequels, audiences and critics have been echoing alike that maybe the franchise has run its course and it’s time to put the dinosaurs to sleep. And once again, critics have not deviated from this message.

Where to Watch All the ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Jurassic World’ Movies Before ‘Dominion’
Image
When director Steven Spielberg unleashed “Jurassic Park” on audiences in 1993, the sci-fi blockbuster quickly became the highest-grossing film ever at the time – and created a franchise that’s still running today.

With six films in total, the “Jurassic” franchise spans nearly three decades, with four different directors putting their stamps on what the world would look like if dinosaurs walked alongside humans.

Spielberg’s initial adaptation of the Michael Crichton novel showcased visual effects that were groundbreaking at the time, and each successive film in the franchise has attempted to one-up and/or recapture the magical mix of awe and terror that’s so effectively pervasive in the original movie.

With “Jurassic World Rebirth,” a brand new reboot of the franchise, hitting theaters this summer, there’s no time like the present to revisit the franchise. Below, we’ve put together a handy list of where every “Jurassic” movie is currently streaming.

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Narrowly Avoids Earning the Franchise’s Lowest Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Life has once again found a way with Jurassic World Rebirth about to hit theaters on July 2 in time for the upcoming holiday. It marks a return for the long-running dinosaur-infested franchise for the first time since 2022, when Jurassic World Dominion brought the modern trilogy to a close with a cool $1 billion at the box office but disastrous reviews for what Steven Spielberg's groundbreaking original had morphed into. Fortunately, there are no genetically modified locusts this time around, but, in the eyes of critics, when it came to continuing the story, they believe Universal was so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should. At the time of writing, Gareth Edwards's walk with the dinosaurs currently has an unfavorable 57% score on Rotten Tomatoes, yet it's not particularly close to the worst the series has seen.

Against the rest of the Jurassic films,...

Jurassic World Rebirth's Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed As First Reviews Are Unleashed
Image
As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, the reviews are in for Jurassic World Rebirth. Unfortunately, it looks like the next part of the summer blockbuster season will get off to a bumpy start.

July is shaping up to be a busy month for theaters, with this, Superman, Smurfs, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps all competing for the attention of moviegoers. However, bad news for Jurassic World Rebirth could be good news for the Man of Tomorrow if this first wave of mixed reviews negatively impacts the box office prospects of Gareth Edwards' new start for the franchise.

73 reviews for Jurassic World Rebirth have been counted on Rotten Tomatoes as we write this, and it currently sits at a "Rotten" 58%. On the plus side, the score makes it far from the franchise's worst-reviewed instalment.

2022's Jurassic World Dominion has a dismal 29%, while Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has 47%. Next up...

‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’: Reviews are split on whether a ‘stripped-down’ sequel can be too stripped-down
Image
It's been three years since Jurassic World: Dominion, the successful-but-well-liked trilogy capper, and in the timeline of movie studios, that's practically an eon. So the dinosaurs are once again walking the earth, this time with stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.

The seventh installment in the Jurassic series finds director Gareth Edwards and original Park adapter David Koepp attempting a more back-to-basics approach — to mixed results, according to critics, who have just begun to weigh in.

"Jurassic World: Rebirth serves as a reset of sorts, bringing back not a single one of its former cast members, but instead allowing screenwriter David Koepp to restore what worked so well about the original film," write Variety's Peter Debruge.

But to what extent those efforts were successful is where the reviews are divided. Some, like The Hollywood Reporter's David Rooney, can appreciate a strong cast, even if they're working with...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Review: Scarlett Johansson In Spielbergian Reboot That Is Part ‘Jaws’, ‘Skull Island’ & ‘Indiana Jones’ Mixed With The Pure DNA Of 1993 Original
Image
I am not quite sure why the latest spinoff of Steven Spielberg’s enormously popular Jurassic franchise is using the Jurassic World moniker of the past trilogy rather than the Jurassic Park handle of the first trilog. Jurassic World Rebirth looks and feels somewhat retro, like it could have been a direct sequel to one of the earlier films that Spielberg himself directed, rather than simply executive produced, as is the case again with this one. But even with that EP title, make no mistake, Spielberg’s fingerprints are all over it. He and his Amblin team including director Gareth Edwards reunited with screenwriter David Koepp, who wrote the first two Jurassic World films, have concocted another winner with all the elements that made this such a blockbuster series in movies and Universal theme parks.

Proof of that is just to look at the box office of the past three entries,...

Jurassic World Rebirth Review — Where Dinosaurs Still Walk but Wonder No Longer Lives
Image
Jurassic Park (1993) is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the films of my life. A landmark in cinema history – not just on a technical level, but especially for the way it blends pure entertainment with philosophical and ethical commentary on science, nature, and humanity. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about the rest of the franchise. The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic World (2015) are, in my personal view, the only sequels that actually offer something worth noting. The others range from forgettable to downright insulting.

Still, how can anyone resist a new dinosaur blockbuster? No matter how disappointing the recent entries have been, no matter how formulaic the saga has become, the promise of seeing these majestic creatures back on the big screen is enough to stir genuine excitement. Curiosity always outweighs fatigue – even when everything points to yet another disposable chapter… which, thankfully, isn’t...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Review: Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali Find Signs of Life in 32-Year-Old Dino Franchise
Image
Dr. Henry Loomis, the paleontologist played by Jonathan Bailey in Jurassic World Rebirth, at one point laments the public’s diminished interest in seeing the same old prehistoric creatures. That prompted the bottom line-driven folks at InGen, the billion-dollar biotech corporation that specializes in resurrecting extinct animals, to start crossbreeding new species. “Engineered entertainment” is what Henry calls it. The same descriptor could apply to Gareth Edwards’ new chapter in the cloned dinosaur franchise birthed by Steven Spielberg more than three decades ago. There are some mighty new monsters on the prowl, but this is primarily an assembly of recycled story beats.

Which is not to say the movie doesn’t deliver adrenalized action, excitement and white-knuckle close encounters with giant beasts whose rampaging anger at times gives them a weird kinship to the cruelly exploited carnival attractions of Tod Browning’s Freaks. How can you not feel a little...

Do Jurassic Park And Face/Off Exist In The Same Universe?
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Easter eggs in movies are an interesting thing. Sometimes, they are there only for the most hardcore of fans to spot. Rather famously, a "Guardians of the Galaxy" Easter egg has still never been spotted, at least not that director James Gunn has admitted to. At times, modern blockbusters can feel more like Easter egg hunts than anything else. Sometimes, though, an Easter egg is so subtle, yet so compelling, that it warrants a great deal of discussion. Such is the case with one from John Woo's 1997 action classic "Face/Off." And buckle up, because things are going to get weird.

Though this particular Easter egg has been pointed out in the past, it began making the rounds online again recently. We'll dig into it more in a moment but, in essence, a blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot from "Face/Off" suggests that the...

Steven Spielberg Screens First Footage From His Top-Secret Untitled Sci-Fi Film Rumored To Involve UFOs
Image
Even after seeing footage from Steven Spielberg’s highly secretive upcoming sci-fi film, it remains difficult to get a clear sense of the project’s full story and direction.

It seems that was intentional, as the footage was reportedly carefully curated so that no plot details could be deduced.

Earlier this week, Spielberg attended a special event at Universal Pictures’ sprawling 84,000-square-foot facility known as The Commons. There, he officially unveiled a new screening room bearing his name, the Steven Spielberg Theater, a 250-seat cinema dedicated to his legacy.

To mark the occasion, Spielberg shared exclusive footage from the mysterious sci-fi movie, which reportedly involves UFOs. Fans and insiders have speculated wildly about the film’s nature, with theories ranging from an entirely original story to possible sequels of classics like E.T. or Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Jurassic World Rebirth's "Nine Commandments" Addressed By Director
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards may be putting his own spin on the blockbuster franchise, but he has addressed the secretive “Nine Commandments” laid down by the original Jurassic Park screenwriter. Set to arrive in theaters on July 2, the seventh film in the long-running franchise sees David Koepp, writer of 1993’s Jurassic Park and its 1997 sequel, return 28 years after penning The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

Inspired by the work of animator Chuck Jones and his own commandments for the Roadrunner cartoons, Koepp developed his own list of rules to help guide his work on the new film.

Speaking with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth’s theatrical release, Edwards was asked if he was made privy to Koepp’s Nine Commandments while making the movie. Revealing that while Koepp never revealed the full list of his commandments to Edwards, the screenwriter would occasionally pull them out to win an argument,...
