Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 Has An Extended Cut That Makes The Movie Worse
Image
Sam Raimi's 2004 film "Spider-Man 2" is still, even after a two-decade glut of superhero media, considered one of the best of the genre. Raimi found the perfect balance between character and comedy, between camp and sincerity. It's silly and fun, but melodramatic in a satisfying fashion. And it contains much of Raimi's signature filmmaking style, with swirling cameras, quick edits, and cartoonish reaction faces. His 2002 "Spider-Man" wasn't mature or polished. "Spider-Man 2" is a head and shoulders above it. We won't get into "Spider-Man 3" here, nor the Marvel-produced Spider-Man movie, which did indeed have Tobey Maguire.

Their respective strengths and weaknesses aside, Raimi's Spider-Man movies were proof to Hollywood that superheroes were finally bankable. Special effects had finally advanced to the point where Marvel hero shenanigans could look reasonably realistic, and a new generation of filmmakers swarmed into the space. The Marvel Cinematic Universe launched with "Iron Man...

The Undertaker Didn’t Care For Shawn Michaels at All, Said He Wouldn’t Even Save Him From a Fire
Image
The Undertaker made his debut in WWE in 1990 as the mortician figure who was the mystery partner of The Million Dollar Man, Ted Dibiase. The night marked the start of what became one of the greatest legacies in professional wrestling as Undertaker went on to become a worldwide-renowned figure.

In his illustrious WWE career, The Demon from Death Valley has battled some of the greatest in-ring performers of all time. The right at the top is none other than Shawn Michaels, with whom he had produced countless stellar matches. However, there was a time when Taker despised the very sight of The Heartbreak Kid back in the day.

How was The Undertaker’s relationship with Shawn Michaels back in their prime? The Undertaker & Shawn Michaels in their match at WrestleMania 25/ Credits: WWE.com

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 Review — Maggie and Negan Face New Threats
Image
Season One laid its cards on the table with a striking premise: Maggie and Negan, once mortal enemies, storm a decaying Manhattan to rescue Maggie’s son, Hershel. By the finale, Negan finds himself shackled as a political pawn under the Dama’s iron grip, while Maggie secures her boy’s safety at the cost of uneasy truces.

Season Two vaults directly into those tensions. Negan initially refuses the Dama’s offer to reclaim power, only to relent when the Croat’s threats extend to his hidden family. Across the river, Maggie bargains with the New Babylon forces—offering herself as collateral to keep Hershel alive.

This installment doubles down on its ambitions. Stretching to eight episodes, it carves out space for both lead characters to confront lingering grief and repressed guilt. New survivor enclaves—ranging from cultured zombie-brawlers to folk-ritual mystics—inject fresh oddities into familiar power plays.

In a franchise crowded with spin-offs,...

StarVaders Review: Mech Deckbuilding Meets Space Invaders
Image
StarVaders arrived on Steam on April 30, 2025, from indie developer Pengonauts and publishers Playworks and Joystick Ventures. It combines three familiar elements—roguelike deckbuilding, grid-based tactics, and classic Space Invaders action—into a cohesive experience built around high-stakes decision making. You step into the cockpit of one of several customizable mechs, each powered by its own energy—or “Heat”—system, and guided by pilots whose personalities unfold between runs.

The goal is deceptively simple: repel descending alien forces before they overwhelm your last three defense rows and fill your Doom meter. Doom replaces a traditional health bar, and each hit injects unwanted “Junk” cards into your deck, forcing you to balance aggression with damage control. Chrono Tokens let you rewind time, redraw hands, or reroll shop offerings, adding a strategic safety net.

Where StarVaders really stands out is in how its systems interlock. Shaping your deck through card rewards and artifacts...

Why Annie Potts Ignored The Big Bang Theory When She Joined Young Sheldon
Image
The inimitable Annie Potts plays the role of young Sheldon Cooper's (Iain Armitage) grandmother, Connie "Meemaw" Tucker, in the "Big Bang Theory" spin-off prequel "Young Sheldon." Because the older version of the character (June Squibb) is a fairly prominent presence on "The Big Bang Theory" and Potts therefore had ample material to draw from, one might assume that she studied Squibb's work on the original show quite faithfully in order to find out what Meemaw was made of.

However, Potts opted to go another route. She didn't take cues from Squibb's performance -- and, as it turns out, she had a very good reason for this decision. In a 2024 interview with Den of Geek, Potts revealed that she chose to ignore the "Big Bang Theory" version of Meemaw and focus instead on what "Young Sheldon" wanted to convey. Fortunately, she had more than just the scripts to go with,...

Grosse Pointe Garden Society Season 1 Review: Where Pristine Facades Conceal Dark Truths
Image
In the manicured lanes of Grosse Pointe—a polished enclave on the fringes of Detroit—the series unfolds its tale of suburban secrets. A garden club, where every neatly trimmed hedge hides a concealed truth, becomes the unexpected arena for a murder mystery that prickles the conscience as much as it tickles the fancy.

The narrative oscillates between two distinct epochs: a present marked by the fallout of a clandestine crime and a flashback from six months prior that gradually exposes the characters’ concealed motives.

The inciting moment—a body quietly interred beneath a bed of roses—acts as a catalyst for a cascade of dramatic events. This initial hook invites viewers to examine the hidden fissures within a seemingly impeccable society, challenging assumptions and inviting both amusement and reflection.

Threads of Suspense: Unraveling the Narrative

Nosferatu's Robert Eggers Gave Nicholas Hoult Some Unusual Acting Advice
Image
Nicholas Hoult has been on a bit of a run of late. Having lost the role of Batman to fellow Brit Robert Pattinson in "The Batman," the actor will soon play Lex Luthor in James Gunn's upcoming "Superman" after having similarly lost the lead role to David Corenswet. Still, not getting to play Superman almost makes Hoult the perfect Lex Luthor, and it will certainly be interesting to see what the actor does as the Man of Steel's most famous foe. In the lead up to that high-profile role, however, Hoult has been raising his profile and demonstrating his range with a slew of 2024 films that range from animated comedies to searing crime dramas.

After appearing alongside Nicholas Cage in the anticlimactic "Renfield" in 2023, Hoult seemingly went into 2024 determined to keep his career afloat. He voiced Jon Arbuckle in "Garfield," then starred in Clint Eastwood's legal thriller "Juror #2,...

Michiel ten Horn on his Rotterdam opener ‘Fabula’: “It’s between comedy, crime and fantasy”

International Film Festival Rotterdam is opening with a homegrown Dutch film for the first time since 2018.

Writer-director Michiel ten Horn’sFabulaaims to combinegrittiness with magical realism to tell the story of asmall-time crook, played by Fedja van Huêt, star of Oscar- winning Dutch movie Character.

The setting is almost as important as the storyline, says ten Horn. He shot the film in Limburg, a province in the very muddy south of the Netherlands, close to the Belgian and German border. It is famous today as the birthplace of right-wing Dutch politician Geert Wilders.

Shifting Gears Review: A Mixed Ride Through Generational Humor
Image
We see Tim Allen’s character, Matt, again in Shifting Gears. Matt is a widowed classic car fanatic whose life takes a big turn when his estranged daughter Riley (Kat Dennings) returns during a messy divorce.

Their meeting serves as a springboard for examining generational conflict, with themes reminiscent of “The Prodigal Son.” Even though the premise is familiar, it is also steeped in unsolved emotional issues, setting the stage for an ideal clash.

The classic car shop represents Matt’s longing for a time gone by and shows how hard it is for him to stay in charge in a world that is changing quickly. The initial clash between traditional values and modern senses sets off tension in this case.

This setting becomes a battleground for ideas, which is a lot like bigger societal problems where old traditions and new rules meet. The mechanics of fixing an emotional injury...

Fernanda Torres On Her Golden Globes-Winning Performance In Walter Salles’ Oscar Contender ‘I’m Still Here’: “It’s A Hell Of A Character To Play”
Image
In Walter Salles’ Oscar-shortlisted film I’m Still Here, set in 1970 at the height of Brazil’s military dictatorship, Fernanda Torres plays an extraordinary mother: Eunice Paiva, who was left to raise five children alone after the disappearance of her activist husband Rubens (played by Selton Mello). In the movie, as in life, however, Eunice refuses to be worn down by the scare tactics of the regime, mounting a campaign of defiance that would take up 25 years of the widow’s life before the authorities finally took responsibility for this historic crime and issued Ruben’s death certificate in 1996. The real Eunice never broke down, at least never in public. “Photographers wanted to take pictures of us looking sad, so we started a battle against the media,” explained her son Marcelo, who wrote the memoir that Salles’ film is based on. “The family of Rubens Paiva does not cry in front of the cameras.

Solo Leveling Season 2 Review: Striking Visuals Meet Emotional Depth
Image
Few anime tales today are as powerfully representative of how society changes as Solo Leveling. In the first season, we met Sung Jinwoo, an E-Rank hunter who grows up to become a powerful Necromancer. His rise to power is a metaphor for social mobility, reflecting the fights against systemic injustices in many countries today.

When Season 2 starts, with the tagline “Arise From the Shadow,” the stakes increase even more. Jinwoo has to deal with both danger from the outside and the moral problems that come with his growing power. This thematic shift makes you think about responsibility and privilege, aligning with current conversations about societal power relations.

The series reflects a larger trend in television that favors collaborative storylines over traditional hero archetypes as Jinwoo changes from being a lone wolf to a mentor. With a combination of exciting action and a critical look at societal norms, this evolution urges...

Naruto's Powerscaling Broke the Anime and Ruined Its Underdog Hero
Image
Naruto is one of the most popular shōnen in history, with a long legacy of popularizing the underdog trope within the genre, as Naruto Uzumaki became one of the most well known underdog characters in anime, but throughout Naruto: Shippuden, the titular hero became the strongest shinobi in the series and cemented his legacy as anything but an underdog, all thanks to powerscaling.

Unlike other shōnen, Naruto's focus between the original and sequel series shifted from telling the story of an underdog protagonist with a demon fox to the strongest shinobi in history thanks to the Nine-Tails' overpowered strength and his unrivaled willpower. Make no mistake, the Naruto in the original shōnen is the same character who appears in Shippuden, but the sequel series removed his status as an underdog quite early.

The Rule of Jenny Pen Review: A Haunting Tale of Power and Aging
Image
In The Rule of Jenny Pen, Judge Stefan Mortensen (Geoffrey Rush) begins his journey in a world of order and power, governing his courtroom with the kind of intellectual precision that only a lifetime of legal experience can hone. The film begins with a striking scene in which Stefan collapses from a stroke in the middle of a vehement condemnation of a child predator.

It’s a tragic and ironic moment, as the man who formerly controlled the lives of others is abruptly deprived of his freedoms. While many films focus on the emotional aftermath of such a life-altering moment, James Ashcroft wastes no time putting Stefan in a new environment that will challenge his sense of control even more deeply.

Royale Pine Mews, Stefan’s assisted living facility, is introduced with the same icy sterility as a courtroom. The monotony of acoustic guitar singalongs and the dreary buzz of...

Solo Leveling – ReAwakening Review: Shadows of Power Unleashed
Image
Solo Leveling’s “-ReAwakening-” film captures the tremendous intensity of one of anime’s most talked-about series. Set in a world where mysterious gates unlock doors to deadly realities, the story follows Sung Jinwoo, long regarded as the weakest hunter, who discovers an incredible power to grow stronger while all other hunters remain static.

This theatrical release is more than simply another anime film; it marks a watershed moment for the franchise. “-ReAwakening-” bridges the gap between the massively successful first season and the approaching second season, providing both a comprehensive retrospective and a tantalizing teaser of what’s to come. The film deftly condenses the whole first season into its opening act, making it unexpectedly accessible to newbies while providing diehard fans with a cinematic reinterpretation of familiar material.

What distinguishes this film is its distinct structure. Approximately 80 minutes are dedicated to reviewing the original season’s important moments,...

Wicked: How Jeff Goldblum's Wizard Of Oz Is Different From Previous Versions
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Wicked."

L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" stands as one of the most adapted novels ever published. As early as 1908 — practically the dawn of cinema — "Oz" was being translated to the screen, and the titular character of the Wizard of Oz has appeared in each of those adaptations. As such, the Wizard is a character who's been interpreted in a variety of ways, given that he's been portrayed by actors ranging from Richard Pryor, Jeffrey Tambor, Christopher Lloyd, Vincent D'Onofrio, and James Franco. When it comes to the portrayal of the Wizard in the new film version of "Wicked," two actors in particular leap to mind: Frank Morgan, who played the Wizard in 1939's "The Wizard of Oz," and Joel Grey, who played him in the original stage production of "Wicked."

When Jeff Goldblum was announced to be taking over the...

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Knows You Love Shadow, And That Makes Keanu Reeves Character Even More Exciting
Image
Shadow the Hedgehog is about to make his live-action debut, and the filmmakers behind Sonic 3 know why fans love the character so much. First appearing in Sonic Adventure 2 in 2001, Shadow has since become one of the most popular characters in the Sonic universe. From the games to the comics to the cartoons, Shadow has been a key figure in the franchise for over two decades now. Considering how successful and well-received the first Sonic the Hedgehog was, it was only a matter of time before Shadow made his way into the big screen.

Whereas the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie was relatively self-contained and tried to please both fans of the character and general audiences, the franchise has since embraced way more elements from the games. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 included Tails and Knuckles, the latter of whom has since received a spinoff series. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 also featured...

In honor of the movie's release, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Finn to break down the development and expansion of the new horror franchise with Smile 2. When asked about whether The Smiler is more savage in the film because the entity is getting stronger or because of the more chaotic mind of Skye,...

“The more I watch, the more Leonard gets on my nerves”: The Big Bang Theory Fans Reveal 5 Instances That Prove Johnny Galecki Played a More Toxic Character Than Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Melissa Rauch Combined
Image
Once upon a time, not too long ago, The Big Bang Theory was the apple of pop culture’s eye, parading its way into the hearts of millions like a band in a homecoming parade. Who among us hasn’t chuckled at the witty “Bazinga!” or hummed along to the endearing Soft Kitty tune?

Mayim Bialik, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, and Jim Parsons in The Big Bang Theory | CBS

Indeed, this show was no flash in the pan—it was a cultural juggernaut, gathering fans like a snowball rolling downhill, unstoppable in its prime. But as the accolades stacked up and the nerd herd led by Leonard, Sheldon, Rajesh, and Howard commandeered our screens, we really can’t help but wonder, when did the magic begin to unravel, and the laughter give way to weariness? I Think I Know Who The Acolyte's Force Cult Really Are (& They're An Awesome Legends Reference)
Image
This article contains spoilers for The Acolyte episode. 3

The Acolyte's witches resemble the Fallanassi from Star Wars Legends, a reclusive all-female group of powerful Force-users. The Fallanassi use the Force in a unique way, referring to it as the "White Current" and mastering illusions and trickery. The Fallanassi have been brought into the Star Wars canon through various media, fitting well with The Acolyte's theme of emerging Force cults.

The Acolyte has many Star Wars viewers scratching their heads with its new Force cult of witches, but I think I know who they are - courtesy of Star Wars Legends. The Acolyte episode 3 stepped back 16 years to reveal mysterious events that took place on Brendok, a remote Outer Rim world visited by four Jedi. There, the Jedi discovered an as-yet-unnamed coven of witches.

The Acolyte broke an old Star Wars tradition that primarily explores the Force through the lens of Jedi and Sith.

Fiery Karlach Cosplay Perfectly Captures The BG3 Tiefling Going Into A Rage
Image
Soumik's gritty edit elevates LexyKary's realistic Karlach cosplay to match the game's fiery animation. Realistic cosplays can be enhanced by skilled photo editors, blurring the line between reality and fiction. Attention to detail in Lexy's Karlach cosplay at Philly's Fan Expo brings the beloved character to life authentically.

Everyones favorite fiery tiefling has been shown plenty of love since Baldurs Gate 3 released (even if the developers rudely left her out of the games cover art). Karlach has seen plenty of well-done cosplays honoring her muscles and heated passion, but few manage to capture her raging as well as this one.

Reddit user LexyKary shared another snapshot of her Karlach cosplay, this time accompanied by an edit showing the tiefling going into a rage. The original photo, which Lexy had already shared online, shows Karlach in her signature raging stance: feet apart, knees bent, fists clenched, and screaming at the sky.

Tom Hiddleston at an event for Loki (2021)
Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Jonathan Pine in two further series of The Night Manager, based on characters created by John Le Carre.

Back in 2018, The Night Manager was a huge hit for the BBC, winning 36 awards including two Emmys, a BAFTA and several Golden Globes.

Adapted from the 1993 novel by John Le Carre, the show followed Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), the night manager of a high class hotel in Cairo, who is recruited by Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), the manager of a Foreign Office task force, to infiltrate the inner circle of sinister arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie).

It was a glossy, big budget production, and writer David Farr expertly crafted Le Carre’s twisty plot into six exhilarating hours of drama.

A second series was announced in 2020, but now the BBC has confirmed that two series have been commissioned and will be filmed back to back,...

House Of Usher’s Queen Twosret Legend Explained: Why Roderick Gives Madeline Sapphire Eyes
Image
Spoilers for Netflix's The Fall of the House of Usher finale ahead.

Some discussion of the series' gruesome deaths ahead.

Madeline Usher's association with Egyptian pharaohs and mythology aligns her with the story of Queen Twosret, an intriguing and lesser-known female ruler of Ancient Egypt. The portrayal of Roderick's farewell to Madeline, with references to Egyptian burial practices and the insertion of sapphires, serves as a symbolic rather than historically accurate moment in the series. Although Queen Twosret was not specifically associated with sapphires, the gem's symbolic connotations of wealth, protection, and yearning for eternal life provide a meaningful backdrop for Madeline's character arc.

At the end of Netflix's The Fall of the House of Usher, Roderick sends Madeline off into with afterlife with sapphire eyes, claiming the gems belonged to the Egyptian Queen Twosret. Throughout the Mike Flanagan miniseries, Madeline Usher (Mary McDonnell/Willa Fitzgerald) is often...
