Silent House should perhaps be called Really Noisy House, judging by the amount of screaming going on.
The horror movie stars Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) as Sarah, who gets trapped inside her family’s lakeside retreat. Unable to get out or contact anyone outside, Sarah experiences increasingly ominous events in and around the house.
Based on the 2010 foreign film The Silent House, the R-rated 2011 movie got mixed reviews from critics, and less appreciation from moviegoers. Silent House grossed $12 million in wide release in theaters, and while some critics say the film is incredibly scary, others say the only scary part is the movie’s flaws.
Both the DVD and the Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack include a feature commentary by co-director Chris Kentis (Open Water) and screenwriter/co-director Laura Lau (Grind).

Today on a very special interview edition of The Golden Briefcase, host Tim Buel interviews The Silent House co-directors Chris Kentis and Laura Lua (of Grind and Open Water previously) regarding the making of the remake of Uruguayan original, La Casa Muda. The two directors speak with us about some of the filmmaking techniques employed to create the film's "real time" non-stop feeling and talk about using a little known actress (at the time) such as Elizabeth Olsen as the lead and primary character through the whole film. Silent House is already playing in limited theaters now. Listen to, or read, the interview below. The Golden Briefcase is also broadcast Live on Wednesday nights starting ~7:30Pm Pst. You can listen in via our Ustream page or by visiting our own live page. We're very happy to be able to present this special interview for your listening pleasure, as we'll...

Sam Jackson Not in Thor: This is only a bit of clearing up as I thought Samuel L. Jackson was reprising his role as Nick Fury in all of the Marvel based films surrounding the anticipated The Avengers film to be directed by Joss Whedon, but apparently that's not the case. Jackson was quoted in an interview saying, "I'm not in Thor. Supposed to do Captain America this summer in London." As far as why he's not in Thor, he adds, "I thought I was, they said I was in the trades and I was like, 'Ooh! I got a job!' I called my agent he said, 'Naw, you're not in it.' I was like, 'Well sh*t, they need to pay me if they're gonna put my name in it. Somethin'.'" Jackson will next be seen as Nick Fury in Iron Man 2 on May 7. [Latino Review]

We have three quick pieces of casting news for you today. First up, Deadline reports that Cameron Diaz and Benecio Del Toro have signed on to co-star in the romantic comedy An Ex to Grind. Next, Production Weekly tweets that Billy Crudup and Toby Jones will join Zooey Deschanel in Bruce Beresford’s biopic Enchantress of Numbers. Finally, Pw also tweets that Kurt Russell, Adrien Brody, and Sharon Stone have come on board Rupert Wainwright’s historical drama Waco.
Hit the jump for details on all three projects.
An Ex to Grind is based off Jane Heller’s novel, which would have Del Toro as a former star athlete who transforms into a slovenly couch potato after his career is cut short by an injury. Supported by his waitress wife (Diaz) both before his rise to fame and after his downfall, the wife has now become a big business success.
