This may be an all too real film, but this slice of reality in the lives of a group of twenty something, with a groom to be, getting cold feet and finding out his brides been cheating on her, is in no way original, but all so captivating. The thing with this documentary type film is that we don't care about anybody. They aren't interesting to us, yet are in all too realistic situations. You wouldn't want to bump into any of these people, particular the big narcissistic oaf, who's so disrespectful to women, and repulsive, a reminder of some loud crass people you know. Yet having this oaf on board, is an asset as he's responsible for most of the laughs. As for the acting, it's not really acting, as in the fact it's more documentary like acting, this isn't bad documentary style acting either. The long bachelor party scene really cuts loose and brings out the laughs, again primarily to the oaf. Kate Cerbrano's "Passionate kisses" song was one I really liked from late 97 too. Again the down under message here is Men have d..ks, and women are horny, and we're capable of mistakes and the resolution of good friend Cerbrano, offering advice to the groom, to forgive and forget was a great dramatic point of the film, but yet again, these people aren't worth caring about, although I love seeing real life brought to the big screen and Rodgers has a talent doing this, making it work successfully, and making the viewer involved, although not being worthy of AFI potential.
Lee Rogers has a unique, sharp style -- both in shooting/laying out a scene, and story-telling. I know he has done several Aussie commercials, but Iwould love to see him do more features. Any in the making? I recommend this film highly for people new to Lee's work. I suppose what attracted me to this film initially was the star, Kate Ceberano, who I know as an incredible singing sensation from Oz. Who knew she could act as well? Maybe it was her director-husband who coaxed that out of her, but the result is still a star-turn for both her AND her husband. I know she has done more music videos, but I would also like to see her in more feature work. Maybe the two of them can work again together soon? I for one will be there in line to watch their work.
Terrible movie and shocking acting. Probably set the Australian film industry back 20 years. An example of when sub-par film students getting older without developing any skills.
A story of a groom going through the pre-wedding dilemmas of manhood and loyalties. A uniquely told story by talented director Lee Rogers. The raw style captures the lifestyle and heartbeat of the ozzie beach scene in sydney, or more specifically, Bondi beach. Great performances by all cast members, including singing sensation Kate Ceberano. Very relatable storyline that is heartfelt and honestly told. A bunch of unique characters that are fun and humorous and make for good comic relief. Surfing in the nude is always fun to watch, i don't care who you are. Definitely worth watching for wit and charm that is brought to the table by this troupe of Australian surfers and their friends.
Honest potrayal of the fast life on the beach front of Bondi where we follow the exploits of a Groom-to-be and his dilemma of getting married. A semi-documentary that may be crude to some and which definitely lacks any originality. But it is a stepping stone for director Lee Rogers who shows potential and hopefully may mature in later works now that he has got this lame piece of work out off his system.
