Vince Vaughn Says ‘Responsible’ Comedies Are a ‘Snoozefest’: Hollywood Should ‘Let Young People Go Make Movies and Leave Them Alone’
Image
As the star of everything from “Swingers” to “Brawl in Cell Block 99,” “Wedding Crashers” to “Freaky,” Vince Vaughn has made an impression on moviegoers that looms even larger than his 6’5” frame. Be it comedy or horror, on the big screen or small, his performances often feel oversized but always exude a lived-in authenticity, which is why so many of them have endured as stand-outs and staples of the genres he’s explored. And yet, when facing an honor commensurate with his impact on the entertainment industry, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Vaughn reacts a bit more like a shrinking violet than you might expect.

“I get shy somewhat with these things,” Vaughn tells Variety. “I was fortunate years ago to be included in a Mann’s Chinese [handprint ceremony] and that was out of nowhere — and very nice as well. But it’s definitely something that is nice...

Drive-Away Dolls Review: A Tidal Wave Of Naughty Lesbian Energy
Image
Ethan Coen's queer roadtrip film "Drive-Away Dolls" is set in 1997, and feels like an escapee from that era, for better and for worse. On the one hand, it possesses all the impish, make-the-straights-squirm energy of a legit '90s indie lesbian farce. It is not just upfront about its queerness, but confrontationally playful about it. "Drive-Away Dolls" unapologetically and cartoonishly plunges audiences into lesbian basement make-out parties and rowdy gay bars, flinging about cunnilingus jokes, masturbation scenes, and multiple on-screen dildos with gleeful impunity. It's a lightweight, weirdly teen-friendly (but very R-rated) slumber party movie with an upbeat and liberating "be gay, do crime" vibe. It's a queer, hand grenade-shaped squeak toy.

On the other hand, however, "Drive-Away Dolls" is being released in 2024, and the very fact that it depicts queer characters having queer sex and talking about queer issues isn't nearly as confrontational as it once was. There...

Psycho (1998) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
The episode of Revisited covering Psycho (1998) was Written, Edited, and Narrated by Kier Gomes, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

In the early 1960s, movies like Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho were considered to be groundbreaking and controversial works of art that were not for the easily spooked. Stories like that, which tackle deep psychological struggles, paranoia, voyeurism, and even murder- were far from the horror genre’s mainstay creature features that were capturing audiences at the time. The movie was based on Robert Bloch’s 1959 novel which was published just in time for Hitchcock to purchase every copy in the United States right off the shelves of book stores in order to preserve the shock value of the story’s iconic twist ending. With Psycho, the gilded status “Classic” is certainly well-earned and maybe even a slight understatement. The movie flawlessly captures the...

Wtf Happened to Vince Vaughn?
Image
If you followed indie film in the 90s, Vince Vaughn was at the center of a legendary tale. As the story goes, in order to get permission to use the theme from Jaws in the film Swingers, Doug Liman screened the film for Steven Spielberg’s approval. Not only did Stevie Boy allow them to use the scary shark tune but the legendary director knew he had to work with whoever was playing Trent Walker. And, he did just that when he cast Vince Vaughn in his Jurassic Park sequel, The Lost World. Spielberg instantly knew that Vince Vaughn was superstar material and he was correctomundo. Over the last nearly 30 years, he has given us some of the best comedic performances mixed in with some bone chilling anti-heroes. But it seems in the past few years Vaughn has slowed down his output to focus on smaller roles in more meaningful projects.

You're Missing Out If You Haven't Heard Michael Cera and Ryan Gosling's Indie Music Projects
Image
Michael Cera and Ryan Gosling star in the biggest movie of the summer, "Barbie," and both have received rave reviews as the magnificently neutral Allan and the insecure Ken, respectively. Gosling, in particular, has made waves for his blockbuster performance of the song "I'm Just Ken," which allows him to show off his dance skills and impressive vocal range. Unfortunately, Cera's Allan doesn't get to show off his vocal skills, which is a shame because Cera actually has a very nice voice, and he's used it to make some pretty solid indie folk music.

As it turns out, both Cera and Gosling have produced impressive indie music projects over the years. Cera released his debut album, "True That," in 2014, and it's a soft, wistful, lo-fi folk project that garnered generally positive reviews and comparisons to the likes of Elliot Smith. Though the album showcases Cera's impressive songwriting skills, one...

Image
The Chainsmokers have dropped a new single, “Riptide,” off the group’s upcoming LP, So Far So Good. The emotive track is a reflection on the need to embrace time spent with a significant other. “But if I only get one life, this is what I wanna do,” the duo sings. “And if I only get one life, I wanna live it with you.”

“Riptide” is the third single to emerge from So Far So Good, out May 13 via Disruptor/Columbia Records. It follows “High” and “iPad,” released earlier this year.

The book, written with Jeff Alulis, tells Krieger’s story in a series of vignettes, from the pawnshop where he purchased his first guitar and his teenaged drug bust to his first writing sessions with Jim Morrison to the Doors’ awkward first concerts in backyards and empty bars.

Flashback: Genesis Play ‘Invisible Touch’ Instrumental ‘The Brazilian’ at Wembley Stadium

The 1986 Genesis album Invisible Touch is the closest thing the band ever had to a Thriller. Not only did it sell by the millions to a wide demographic of fans, but it produced five huge singles (“Invisible Touch,” “Tonight Tonight Tonight,” “Land of Confusion,” “In Too Deep” and “Throwing It All Away”) that kept the album on the chart for a year and allowed the band to start headlining football stadiums.

“Anything She Does” and “Domino” weren’t singles, but the former still got a goofy video video starring Benny Hill...

Nia Long on Producing Netflix’s ‘Fatal Affair,’ Reuniting with Omar Epps 20 Years After ‘In Too Deep’
Image
Nia Long has long been a fixture in Hollywood, but the actor is still celebrating important firsts. With her latest film, “Fatal Affair,” Long steps into a new role, serving as an executive producer for the first time and starring in her first thriller.

“I was saying to myself months prior to reading the script, ‘Wow, it’s really crazy in all of these years being in the industry, I’ve never done a thriller,’” Long tells Variety, explaining how the project landed in her lap. “So, ultimately, I decided this was a great opportunity to ask for a producer credit, to be involved in the beginning, to help with casting, to have ideas about the script and Netflix was very supportive of that.”

And the experience was as empowering as she’d hoped. “For the first time in my career I felt heard,” she says. “I felt like I...

Review: Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga, Inconsistent, Sporadic Laughs
Image
In the before times, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, a comedy directed by David Dobkin and co-written by and starring Will Ferrell, a comedian who’s made a virtual meal out of playing a relentlessly high-energy, dim-witted man-child and buffoon, was all set to premiere with the 65th edition of the European Song Contest in May. But with the pandemic raging and large-scale mass events a no-go for the foreseeable future — the competition was delayed an entire year — Netflix decided to forego any synergy that might accrue with the simultaneous release of Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga with the actual competition and stream Farrell’s musical parody now. They probably should...

Will Ferrell at an event for Le monde (presque) perdu (2009)
‘Eurovision Song Contest’ Film Review: Will Ferrell as an Icelandic Wannabe Pop Star?
Will Ferrell at an event for Le monde (presque) perdu (2009)
Before I say that “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga” isn’t very funny, I should point out that I’ve underestimated the humor and the staying power of Will Ferrell comedies in the past. “Step Brothers” and “The Other Guys,” for instance, both seemed pretty flat the first time I saw them – but after a few more viewings, I began to appreciate the durability of Catalina Wine Mixer and Little River Band jokes.

So maybe one day “Eurovision Song Contest,” which premieres on Netflix on Friday, will be one of those Ferrell films that needs repeat viewings and that will one day prove to be a surprisingly durable source of laughs.

But, you know, probably not.

Oh, there’s humor to be had in making fun of the glitzy musical competition that brought us Abba (back in 1974), Celine Dion (in ’88) and others of their ilk. And Dan Stevens...

Eurovision Song Contest: Trailer and Release Date for Will Ferrell Netflix Comedy
Will Ferrell at an event for Le monde (presque) perdu (2009)
Will Ferrell’s singing voice is like a combination of Fergie and Jesus, which makes him the perfect choice to get involved in an international singing competition, which his character does in the upcoming Netflix film, fully titled Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.

Ferrell was heavily involved with Eurovision, having co-written the script with frequent collaborator Andrew Steele, and also served as co-star and producer. The feature was directed by David Dobkin.

The premise is based on the long running international TV music competition, The Eurovision Song Contest. The contest, created in 1956, pits each participating nation from the European Broadcasting Union against one another, challenging them to write and perform an original song for a live TV and radio performance. Notable past winners include Sweden’s Abba in 1974 and Switzerland’s Celine Dion in 1988.

‘Blaze’ Star Ben Dickey Readies New Album ‘A Glimmer on the Outskirts’

The boutique Americana label based in Austin is a joint venture with Nashville’s Dualtone Records and was co-founded by filmmaker Ethan Hawke, Austin businessman Louis Black and musician-actor Charlie Sexton, who portrayed Townes Van Zandt in the film.

‘Blaze’ Review: Country-Music Cult Hero Gets the Biopic He Deserves
Never heard of Blaze Foley? You’re not alone. So why would Ethan Hawke decide to direct a film about a country singer and songwriter who died at 39 after a flirtation with fame that went nowhere? Maybe for just that very reason. Right up until that day in 1989 when he took a fatal gunshot to the chest from the son of a friend, Foley was making his own kind of music, this time in a dive bar in Austin, Texas called the Outhouse. Hawke keeps coming back to that recording,...

Alia Shawkat and Ben Dickey in Blaze (2018)
To see Ben Dickey at all is to spot him from a country mile away. The 41-year-old musician is milling about something called the Gibson Showroom in Austin, a sort of multi-purpose space decorated in vigorous 21st-century guitar chic, and clocking in well over six feet tall, the Little Rock, Arkansas, native dominates whatever square footage he is in. The dude is big, and a little husky. But you wouldn’t call him intimidating. In fact, when you watch Dickey in Blaze, Ethan Hawke’s semi-biopic about singer-songwriter Blaze Foley...

Blaze Foley: How a Forgotten Texas Songwriter Became the Year’s Best Biopic
Even Blaze Foley’s closest friends didn’t know much about him. The eccentric, burly Texas songwriter – who wrote country classics such as “If I Could Only Fly” and “Clay Pigeons” before he was shot dead at 39 years old in 1989 – was known to embellish the story of his background, and his death was clouded in mystery. “I heard he got shot at the unemployment office taking a bullet for another homeless guy,” says Ethan Hawke. “I remember waxing poetic about that one night. . . . Then we found out that’s actually not true.

In the upcoming Ethan Hawke-directed film Blaze, musician and first-time actor Ben Dickey pulls off nothing short of an astonishing feat as he inhabits the lead role of singer-songwriter Blaze Foley. ‘Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus’: The Songs to Know from the Show’s Country Music Icons
[Editor’s note: This article is presented in partnership with Cinemax in support of Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus, which premieres on September 22nd at 10:00 pm Et/Pt on Cinemax.]

Mike Judge is behind a new TV show this month, with Cinemax’s “Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus,” an animated eight-episode series looking into the lives and times behind some iconic country music performers.

Some of these folks are household names from Nashville to Norway, but others are lesser-known figures from the country music world. They all have distinct styles and, as “Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus” shows, they all led very different lives away from the stage.

We’ll leave the prime anecdotes and animated hijinks to the experts (the series premieres Friday, September 22 at 10pm Et/Pt on Cinemax), but in the meantime, here’s a primer on the musicians that make up the backbone of this illustrated look at country music history.

The Toronto International Film Festival kicks off Thursday, Sept. 4, with the premiere of Robert Downey Jr.’s new drama, The Judge.

One of the higher-profile fall films has found an appropriate berth. David Dobkin’s father-son drama "The Judge" (Warner Bros.) will open the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday, September 4. Movie Review: 'Delivery Man'
Delivery Man

Starring Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulders, Chris Pratt

Directed by Ken Scott

Rated PG-13

On occasion, I’ve brought the topic of motivation. With certain actors, actresses or directors, you start to wonder, as you watch their once promising career sort of flat line, what their drive is anymore. Robert De Niro or Al Pacino are two prime examples of this topic. Vince Vaughn, a guy who for a good stretch was the lighting rod for a lot of comedies; the guy who added that extra spark, turning an otherwise run of the mill comedy into something better than it had any right to be. But lately, it seems that lighting rod Vaughn is no more and we're left with going through the motions Vaughn, still taking on only ridiculous big concept comedies but the end result being one where neither party is benefiting. In fact, back when Vaughn...

Vince Vaughn after 'The Internship': Let's get serious
Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in Les stagiaires (2013)
When Vince Vaughn made a huge splash as the “money” L.A. skirt-chaser in 1996′s Swingers, Hollywood knew it liked what it saw. But it wasn’t sure exactly what to do with him. Trent was a machine-gun-mouthed life-of-the-party who drew women — “beautiful babies,” in Trentspeak — like flies, and the tall, kinetic Vaughn was immediately propelled to the top of the lists for new leading man.

Steven Spielberg himself plucked him to be in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Vaughn subsequently starred with Joaquin Phoenix in a pair of indie dramas, Clay Pigeons and Return to Paradise. Gus Van Sant...

Psycho Path: Tracing Norman Bates' Twisted Trail Through Page and Screen Part 5
And here we are – the fifth and final installment of Psycho Path, a look at fictional madman Norman Bates from the Psycho franchise.

This series has focused on each of Norman’s adventures – in novels, films, and television series – while examining each incarnation of the character and the differences amongst them.

Check out past installments of Psycho Path: Tracing Norman Bates' Twisted Trail Through Page and Screen here.

Part V: New Beginnings

“Are you sure you wouldn't like to stay just a little while longer?”

Say what you will about Gus Van Sant’s 1998 shot-for-shot remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (and I’ll likely join you), one thing should not be up for debate: It’s a fascinating idea for an experiment - taking one of the many masterworks created by a genius director, then replicating it moment for moment while using the same screenplay and shot list the...

Joaquin Phoenix
Career Watch: Joaquin Phoenix - He's Still Here
Joaquin Phoenix
Biggest Asset: No one looks, sounds or moves anything like him. The Start: One of five children, Joaquin Phoenix started working as a child actor, joining older brother River in TV shows before getting cast in 1989's "Parenthood," for which he received much praise. He did not return to the big screen until 1995, when he starred in Gus Van Sant's "To Die For." Van Sant had directed River in 1991's "My Own Private Idado" before his death in 1993. "To Die For" kick-started Phoenix's adult career, with a leading role in Pat O'Connor's 'Inventing the Abbotts" and supporting role in Oliver Stone's "U Turn" following in 1997. Signature Quote: "No, I do more hip hop music...[audience laughter]...is this a joke?" - on The Letterman Show Body Of Work: After Joseph Ruben's "Return to Paradise" and David Dobkins' "Clay Pigeons," both in 1998 and with Vince...

Vince Vaughn to cowboy up in Randall Wallace's Gunslingers
Does anyone remember when Vince Vaughn starred in movies where he didn't have the same snarky, smart-ass delivery that he has employed since Old School? Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of his style but I also have seen him play other types as well. From The Cell, Clay Pigeons, Domestic Disturbance, and even Psycho, Vaughn has shown he can play some darker roles as well. Here's to hoping Randall Wallace's Gunslingers is that project. Vaughn's Wild West Picture Show Productions and New...

Vince Vaughn New Show In Development As Well
Vince Vaughn Looks Poised For A Comeback

Word around the campfire is Vince Vaughn is currently developing an original series for television, alongside Lawrence Konner, whose writing credits include such shows as The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire. This news is hot on the heels that Vaughn is to star in a film version of the old James Garner P.I. show, The Rockford Files. It’s looking like Vaughn is poised for a comeback that no one had been clamoring for, but after which everyone will be grateful for.

According to Deadline, the show is to be focused on “global private security operatives,” which I’m taking to either mean either balls-to-the-wall soldiers of fortune, or a buncha over-caffeinated guys in vans listening to a lot of hidden microphones. Vaughn’s statement doesn’t do much to clear this ambiguity up: “This compelling yet secretive world we are exploring is...

Filmmaker Clay Dumaw Asks if You Can Get Out Alive
Clay Pigeons Studios is currently putting the finishing touches on a creature feature from New York-based filmmaker Clay Dumaw entitled Get Out Alive. We've got an extended trailer for you to look at that certainly raises more questions than it answers, but it's definitely intriguing!

Get Out Alive was written and directed by Dumaw and stars Tyler Sutton, Jesse Maner, David Fichtenmayer, Rhiannon Roberts and David Iannotti, most of whom also doubled as crew members in this grassroots filming effort. The movie is currently in post-production, which includes 100-plus F/X shots that need CGI added to them. However, undaunted by the task, Dumaw plans to have the film finished within a few months and ready for festival submissions soon.

For more visit the official Get Out Alive website, "like" Get Out Alive on Facebook and follow director Clay Dumaw on Twitter (@claydumaw).

The extended trailer below is eight minutes...

David Dobkin To Direct Contemporary 'Arthur & Lancelot'
After doing the indie thing with "Clay Pigeons," getting a taste of Hollywood with "Shanghai Knights," and breaking out with "Wedding Crashers," David Dobkin is getting ready to change gears a bit. While "Fred Claus" was an embarrassment, his forthcoming Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman comedy "The Change-Up" looks to find the director back in stride and it seems Warner Bros. is ready to allow him to take a chance on something big. Deadline reports that the studio has shelled out $2 million, beating out Universal and Fox among others, for Dobkin's spec script "Arthur & Lancelot." The film, budgeted…...

Set Visit: The Change-Up - Part 2
Ryan Reynolds at an event for Deadpool 2 (2018)
When I last left off in Part 1 of our set visit for The Change-Up, I was describing a hilarious scene with Ryan Reynolds and young actress Sydney Rouviere, which involved multiple alternate lines, all of which were hilarious. When that scene wrapped up, and they were setting up the next shot, we had a chance to speak with the stars of The Change-Up, Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds. Even with most of this shoot behind them, both actors were still in incredibly high spirits and they both seemed genuinely pleased to be there. Here's what both of these top-notch comedy actors had to say about their experiences thus far on The Change-Up.

Actors Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds:

We haven't actually seen you guys changing yet. Are you "doing" each other when you change?

Jason Bateman: It's not that. I told (diretor) (David) Dobkin early that my talents...

First Look: Bateman & Reynolds in David Dobkin's 'The Change-Up'
Universal just debuted some individual photos as a 2011 preview (via RopeofSilicon) and one of them that I thought was worth sharing is for the summer comedy called The Change-Up that stars Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman. The supporting cast also includes the illustrious Olivia Wilde as well as Leslie Mann and Alan Arkin. Change-Up is another classic body switch story where a responsible family man (Bateman) trades bodies with his lazy, man-child of a best friend. The just looks fun because I'm guessing this is after the switch and Ryan looks like he's freakin' out. But if I had to choose, I'd see Green Lantern this summer. A comedy in which a married guy switches bodies with his lazy best friend in order to woo his co-worker. The Change-Up is directed by veteran comedy filmmaker David Dobkin, of Clay Pigeons, Shanghai Knights, Wedding Crashers and Fred Claus previously. The screenplay...

Vince Vaughn Career Assessment | Daddy Got the Rainman Suite & He Sh*t All Over It
Subject: Vince Vaughn, 40-year old American actor, comedian, and producer

Date of Assessment: January 14, 2011

Positive Buzzwords: Swingers, smooth-talking, money

Negative Buzzwords: Christmas movies, stagnation, monied

The Case: If I asked moviegoers to consider today's subject, the vast majority would express the same sentiment in regard to today's subject; that is, what the hell happened to Vince Vaughn? Babies, you know what I'm talking about when I refer to Vaughn's promising performance as Trent "Double Down" Walker in Swingers. Vaughn virtually materialized out of thin air to great effect -- women wanted him, and men wanted to be him. To put it quite simply, he was money... and he still is, but Vince's definition of "money" has drastically changed over the past fifteen years. Instead of a descriptor of coolness, the term now refers to what's rattling around in Vaughn's very oversized pockets. Then again, the size of the pockets has changed as well.

Leslie Mann Joins The Change-Up
Leslie Mann has joined the cast of The Change-Up , reports Variety . Mann will star alongside Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman, who play two best friends who switch bodies. Olivia Wilde is also set to star. Though unconfirmed, it is likely that Mann will play Bateman's character's wife. Part of the storyline is said to involve him borrowing Reynold's character's body so that he can date his office crush, played by Wilde. Mann is best known for her appearances in the films of her real-life husband, Judd Apatow, including Funny People , Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin . The Change-Up is based on a spec script from Jon Lucas and Scott Moore ( The Hangover ) and is set to be directed by David Dobkin ( Wedding Crasher , Clay Pigeons ).

Colin Firth and Julianne Moore in A Single Man (2009)
Spin-ematical: New on DVD and Blu-ray for 7/6
Colin Firth and Julianne Moore in A Single Man (2009)
A Single Man

On the posters and advertisements, it might seem like a dramatic romance between Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, but A Single Man is actually the story of a college professor struggling through life after the death of his partner (Matthew Goode). In his review, Eugene Novikov pointed out the high and low points of the film: "despite the shaky start, Ford finds an elegant, striking way of bringing this material to the screen. Much of A Single Man is an elegiac tone poem, rendered haunting by Ford's beautifully composed images, and propelled by a gorgeous, somewhat Philip Glass-like musical score by little-known Polish composer Abel Korzeniowski." Rent it on DVD or Blu-ray.

'Vacation' Gets Back to Work
If you're interested in hurling bad fruit at the studios over once again dusting off a classic from years gone by, the line forms to the left.

New Line is making "a sequel of sorts" to National Lampoon's Vacation, which will be produced by David Dobkin, and The Hollywood Reporter says he might also direct. Dobkin has one undeniable success on his resume - Wedding Crashers - but Fred Claus, Clay Pigeons, and Shanghai Knights don't add up to very much. Still, provided a good story can be developed, Dobkin could be a decent choice.

Speaking of the story, it's now Rusty's turn to load up the family roadster, and there will apparently be opportunities for Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo to make cameos, but nothing's set in stone. Would you want Anthony Michael Hall back as Rusty? Technically, it wouldn't matter since Hall was only Rusty in the original...

Final Michael Jackson Rehearsals Highlight Today's Dailies -- 8/10/09
-- No tricks here, Michael Jackson fans are getting a Halloween treat when Sony Pictures puts out a digestible version of the much-discussed final rehearsal footage. In a throwback to "Captain Eo," select bits will be presented in 3-D. Speaking of "Eo," wouldn't it be nifty of some of those 3-D clips turned out to be from the Disney attraction? The words "career retrospective" are mentioned after all. (MTV)

-- It still feels so strange to know with absolute certainty that a "Wall Street" sequel is happening. It is though, and the "Money Never Sleeps" cast just got bigger. Frank Langella is in, playing a seasoned broker who mentors Shia Labeouf's young up-and-comer. The role is said to play "a major part in the film's plot." (Variety)

-- Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal, the writer/director team behind "The Hurt Locker" who have enjoyed a solid limited release run,...

Ferrell and Dobkin Say Goodbye to Neighborhood
Will Ferrell has dropped out of the Fox comedy Neighborhood Watch. Director David Dobkin, who most recently helmed Fred Claus and the box office hit Wedding Crashers, in which Ferrell made a cameo appearance, has also left the project. Watch centers on an urbanite that gets more than he bargained for when he moves to the suburbs and joins the neighborhood watch, with a sci-fi element included via a plot line about aliens. The duo were attached to the comedy in the spring, and Dobkin had recently submitted revisions to Jared Stern's script. Dobkin’s other directing credits include Shanghai Knights and Clay Pigeons. No reason was given for Ferrell and Dobkin’s departure. Ferrell, whose recent Land of the Lost was a summer misfire, has a role in the upcoming Jeremy Piven comedy The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard. He’s also developing the buddy flick The Other Guys,...

Vince Vaughn, Serious Actor
Remember Clay Pigeons or A Cool Dry Place? Me neither. These are the films that Vince Vaughn tried to be more than just a stand up comedian in. Turns out, he's returning to that dry well. He's been cast in a drama/comedy, Sunny and 68, that sounds suspiciously serious. However, for some reason, my instinct tells me he's old enough to be up for it. Variety reports that Universal has bought the rights to the script of Sunny and 68 and that the Wild West'erner is attached, along with Gavin O'Connor (Pride and Glory) directing. The story will follow Vaughn as an alcoholic who bottoms out on television after riding the national poker circuit. Sounds like he's going to learn a lot of lessons when he moves back home after going broke. He finds out he has a 5-year-old daughter and that his mother is dying. So he's got to grow...

Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show
Narrative Review When you hear the name Vince Vaughn, you expect laughter. That seems to be the rule now. Sure, for a while he attempted drama with a "Psycho" remake, "Clay Pigeons" and "Return to Paradise," but the public spoke with their wallets. None of those films made much money, and Vaughn returned to comedy with huge hits such as "Wedding Crashers." So who better than Vaughn to lead us through 30 cities in 30 days with four stand-up comedians? "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days and 30 Nights, Hollywood to the Heartland" is supposed to be a raucous ride of laughter, but it's thin on one important aspect: the jokes. Vaughn is joined by four stand-up comedians (Ahmed Ahmed, John Caparulo, Bret Ernst and Sebastian Maniscalco)...
