As his lost 70s songs emerge, the Oscar-winner and musician explains how the magic of art keeps him upbeat even after losing homes to LA fires
A rainy day in Santa Barbara, and Jeff Bridges sits in his garage, wondering where his favourite spectacles have got to. We are in the middle of a rangy conversation on a video call, meandering our way from Bob Dylan to the anthropomorphism of bees, via Crazy Heart, Cutter’s Way and The Big Lebowski. There are sidetracks and double-backs and loose threads. Intermittently, an unseen assistant hands the actor pairs of glasses seemingly identical to the ones he is already wearing. Bridges, in a soft brown cardigan, inspects each pair and dismisses them. “Where was I?” he asks.
The garage here serves as Bridges’ jam space and ceramics workshop. He has drums set up for his grandson, and a picture of Captain Beefheart on the wall.

It seems the farther away from award season we get, the more 2024 films are finally making their way to streaming. Indeed, Max is not the only service that is adding a few of last year’s best movies to its platform this month. Peacock is also set to host the long-awaited streaming premiere of one of 2024’s biggest, most financially successful and beloved blockbusters. On top of that, the platform has also brought more than a few iconic, timeless film classics into its fold in March, including one of Quentin Tarantino’s best movies and an underrated, often wrongly forgotten romance.
Here are TheWrap’s picks for this month’s best new-to-Peacock movies.
“The Big Lebowski” (Gramercy Pictures) “The Big Lebowski” (1998)
It is one of the most quoted and referenced American movies of the past 30 years, and yet “The Big Lebowski” still feels as original and inimitable now as it...

The first trailer for the Steve Buscemi-led black comedy Psycho Therapy: The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer has been released. Directed by Turkish filmmaker Tolga Karaçelik in his English-language debut, the film follows John Magaro (Past Lives) as Keane, a writer whose crumbling marriage to Suzie (Britt Lower) is further complicated by his years-long struggle to complete a book about serial killers. His luck takes a bizarre turn when he meets Kollmick (Buscemi), an ex-murderer who offers to mentor him in the finer points of homicide.
The newly released trailer for Psycho Therapy shows things spiral further out of control when Suzie mistakes reformed serial killer Kollmick for their new marriage counselor (via Brainstorm Media). Psycho Therapy is set to premiere in New York theaters on April 4. The film will also star Ward Harton, Olli Haaskivi, and Lower's Severance co-star Sydney Cole Alexander.

With a jazz singer mother, actor brother, and actress cousin, Turturro has been surrounded by the arts from a young age. His rise to prominence as an actor came with frequent collaborations with directors Spike Lee and the Coen brothers. Steve Buscemi joins Sam Rockwell in the cast of Martin McDonagh's upcoming movie Wild Horse Nine. One of the most prominent character actors in Hollywood, Buscemi has an impressive filmography, first shooting to fame with a supporting role in Quentin Tarantino's debut Reservoir Dogs. He later appeared in several hit movies, including Pulp Fiction, Con Air, The Big Lebowski, and Ghost World. With a strong body of work on television too, including a supporting role in The Sopranos and the lead role in Boardwalk Empire, Buscemi remains one of the most recognizable and iconic stars of film and TV.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Buscemi will replace Mark Ruffalo in Wild Horse Nine, and is also joined by Parker Posey and John Malkovich. The movie, which McDonagh will write and direct, is described as a darkly comedic drama, and will begin shooting later this month in Rapa Nui, aka Easter Island.

Steve Buscemi has joined the high-flying cast of Wild Horse Nine, a Searchlight feature being directed by Martin McDonagh. It is the filmmaker’s first feature since his acclaimed The Banshees of Inisherin.
Sam Rockwell, who starred in McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, as well as John Malkovich and Parker Posey are already in the saddle for the dark comedic drama that begins shooting later this month in Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island.
Plot and character details are being kept under wraps, but it is extremely rare that a production, let alone an American or British one, shoots on the island, which lies 3,700 kilometers off the coast of Chile and is one of the most remote, inhabited islands on Earth. It is also one of the rare areas not overrun by modern conveniences, as it is run by the Rapa Nui National Park.

John Goodman has been injured during the production of Warner Bros and Legendary’s Alejandro González Iñárritu movie, which is filming in the UK.
A Warner Bros Pictures spokesperson told us: “Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury. He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
We understand Goodman slipped during the past week while blocking a scene at the UK’s Pinewood Studios and was taken to hospital for treatment. We understand it led to filming being stopped for two days. It is described to us by sources as a relatively “minor injury” and the 72-year-old actor is expected back on set Monday.

Whether it was Zoe Saldaña calling out her husband’s beautiful hair during her acceptance speech or June Squibb claiming that she’s really Bill Skarsgård in drag, the 97th Oscars on Sunday were chock-full of good, bag and fugly moments.
Here are all the moments that made us go hmmm.
So Good: Oscar gave a collective hug to fire victims by opening the show with a chill-inducing ode to our beloved L.A. with iconic moments from Rocky III, La La Land, Grand Canyon, La Bamba and The Big Lebowski, followed with gorgeous performances by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
So bad it was good: It felt a little strange to transition out of such a sentimental opener to the image of “four-time Oscar viewer” Conan O’Brien crawling out of Demi Moore’s corpse.

While Hollywood typically has a good instinct for turning great films into box office gold, as seen with Marvel's Avengersmovies, this isn't always the case. Considering how much money can be spent on films and how much competition there is, it's always easy for great stories to get lost in the cracks, only to find new love later on. Some movies enjoy success in the home video market as word-of-mouth spreads, while others are only ever appreciated by a small minority.
While some box office flops earned their failure, others crashed and burned despite being among the best of their era. The 1990s in particular had no shortage of fantastic movies that didn't make a strong impression in theaters, but have since earned the respect of fans of their respective genres. From gritty crime movies to stylish Westerns, the decade proved even the best movies can struggle to fill up theaters.

One of our great character actors, John Turturro, is equally adept at at drama, comedy and tough-guy roles. A New York stage veteran, he made his way to Hollywood following a character actor’s path, but thanks to several influential mentors, his career soared as he appeared in film after film that would prove to become classics.
Although he continues to have a successful career in television — he is an Emmy winner from two nominations and has earned a Golden Globe nod and three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for his TV work — I suspect that it will be for his work in film for which he will be most remembered, from small indelible roles in “Do the Right Thing” and “The Big Lebowski” to great leading parts, such as in the Coens’ “Barton Fink,” and “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”
So let’s raise a glass to Turturro by...

Penny is basically an audience surrogate who hangs out with a group of intensely nerdy guys with a ton of esoteric knowledge about science and pop culture.
As the resident "normie," Penny translates their nonsense for the viewers and, within the universe of the show, helps all of the guys evolve. Leonard, Penny's on-again, off-again boyfriend, is a much better person after he spends years as Penny's partner. Penny ultimately breaks Sheldon's barriers down to the point where he considers her one of his best friends in the world.

Hollywood is full of comeback stories, but Matthew Fox decided to skip the sequel. After ruling TV with Lost, he took a swing at movies — only to land in a Jeff Bridges-led box office disaster that made less than $500K on a $1.8 million budget. Yeah, that certainly makes you rethink your whole career.

A new output deal will see Lionsgate movies continue to premiere on the Starz cable channel and streaming service after the two companies split.
One of the sneaky unknown questions surrounding the split of the Lionsgate movie studio from the Starz cable channel and streaming bundle was whether Lionsgate films would still go to Starz first once the break up was complete. That’s the arrangement currently, but as the two entities are on track to become separate, publicly traded companies, Lionsgate could easily have made a streaming deal with a new service once it was officially on its own. However, Deadline reported this week that Lionsgate and Starz have extended their output deal for multiple years as they take the necessary steps to split for good.

When it comes to movies, the passage of time can be both a blessing and a curse. For example, a movie such as The Big Lebowski was a commercial flop upon release but eventually found its place in cinema history as one of the most beloved cult classics. On the flip side of that coin, even some popular and successful movies don't hold up as the years go by.

If you can't roll on Shabbos (much to the chagrin of the main characters in The Big Lebowski), you certainly can't cover up a murder on Shabbos. Yet, that's exactly what happens in Citizen Weiner filmmaker Daniel Robbins' latest feature film Bad Shabbos, which follows a Jewish family's weekly get-together that goes horribly wrong. So wrong in fact that the repercussions of what takes place could put the family behind bars for good.

Denzel Washington has dabbled across several genres in his time as a Hollywood leading man, but he's only ever been in one true horror movie, 1998's Fallen, and it deserves far more recognition than it gets. The supernatural religious horror movie features Washington as a seasoned Philadelphia police detective who is investigating a series of ritualistic murders that are reminiscent of those committed by a serial killer he had already put on death row. What begins as a religious thriller veers into supernatural horror with the introduction of genuine demonic possession as the narrative unfolds.
While Fallen was regarded as a box office flop upon its release, it has gained a certain cult status over the years, and is widely regarded as one of Denzel Washington's most underrated movies. The stand-alone movie has an original, creative plot that is appropriately dark for a creepy religious horror movie, and it features...

Miller's Crossing, one of the greatest gangster movies ever made, is an extremely underrated movie created by The Coen Brothers. As one of the best directing duos of all time, The Coen Brothers have directed classic films such as The Big Lebowski, Inside Llewyn Davis, Fargo, and No Country for Old Men. Joel and Ethan Coen have directed a total of 20 films together beginning with the 1984 neo-noir crime film Blood Simple.
Following their feature film debut, the Coen Brothers' sophomore effort was the 1987 crime comedy Raising Arizona, which remains one of Nicolas Cage's most iconic roles. Although cinema is an art form, first and foremost, it is also a business that requires financial support to be sustained. A healthy box office is necessary for the medium to remain a cornerstone of popular culture, as studios will only be willing to invest in future projects if it is proven that there is an audience that is willing to go out and see them. 2024 was a year in which there were tremendous box office highs, but the delays due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes did lead to some crushing lows.
Box office performances are a compelling way to examine where the industry is headed, but it is not necessarily an indication of quality. Although films like “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Inside Out 2,” “Kung Fu Panda 4,” “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” and “Wicked: Part One” performed extraordinarily well this year, few publications that take themselves seriously...

"The Big Bang Theory" is no stranger to removed scenes. In fact, one of the pilot episode's scenes aged so badly that it was removed from syndication by creator Chuck Lorre. Still, while the CBS sitcom isn't generally known for its adults only content, it does know how to play naughty on occasion. In fact, one particular scene of the show got a little too frisky for British advertisers, and as a result, it was removed from the UK version of the episode in question (via The Mirror).
The scene takes place in "The Big Bang Theory" season 10, episode 7, titled "The Veracity Elasticity." It shows Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) in Bdsm gear, with the former chained to a St. Andrew's Cross. The shirtless Leonard is wearing a leather harness and a collar, while Penny is decked in a corset with a somewhat revealing neckline and a fetish cap.

While Ghosts has a lot of good guest stars, I still can’t get over how cleverly self-referential the CBS sitcom’s best season 2 guest role proved. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts give the sitcom a lot of opportunities to make historical jokes, but not all of these gags are concerned with far-flung periods in history, like the Viking invasions or the Revolutionary War. Flower’s Ghosts storylines feature a lot of jokes about the counterculture of the ‘60s, while Pete’s obsession with ‘80s pop culture is central to his bond with Sam’s husband Jay.
