Alec Baldwin in Baby Boss (2017)
Netflix 2018 Originals Include Boss Baby, Trolls, Captain Underpants
Alec Baldwin in Baby Boss (2017)
Netflix and DreamWorks have partnered up for a massive slate of programming next year. In 2018, Netflix and DreamWorks Animated Television will debut six original shows. Some familiar titles and some brand new. Among the movies getting the small screen treatment are Trolls and The Boss Baby. In addition, TVweb is reporting that Netflix is rebooting the beloved 80s animated series, She-Ra, a spin-off of the old He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon.

First up is Trolls: The Beat Goes On, which arrives on January 18, 2018. Picking up where the film left off, Trolls: The Beat goes On is an all-new chapter in the endlessly upbeat adventures of the Trolls as Poppy, Branch and all of Troll Village keep the party going in their fantastical forest home. Executive produced by Matthew Beans (Robot Chicken), the series features Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect) and Amanda Leighton (This Is Us) as the voices...

DreamWorks and Netflix Expand Their Animation with Six New Series
That “Kids” tab on that you get before the welcome screen on your Netflix is about to get more use as they are adding six new series for your kids and some of us adults to watch.

Film success seems to be the contributing factor for some of these series as they are continuations from those films. But some of these are just great series and continuing them is kind of a no brainer.

DreamWorks Trolls: The Beat Goes On!

A 344-million-dollar profit at the box office will see Trolls continuing with a new series. With that if you’re expecting Justin Timberlake, Ana Kendrick, or anyone else returning from the movie think again. Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect 1 and 2) and Amanda Leighton (This Is Us, The Fosters) will be filling the roles of Branch and Poppy with original songs written by Alana Da Fonseca (Pitch Perfect 3). Although I...

She-ra is Making an Animated Comeback on Netflix!
Netflix and Dreamworks Animation have announced that they have a new slate of animated series projects in development that are set to launch next year. One of the most exciting projects that came with the announcement includes a revival of the classic 80s series She-Ra: Princess of Power!

I hope that the series turns out to be good. I think it's something that my girls are going to love. I'm sure most of you are familiar with She-Ra, but if not, she is also known as Princess Adora and is the twin sister of Prince Adam a.k.a. He-Man. She was kidnapped as a baby by the Horde's leader Hordak. She is eventually given the Sword of Protection, which parallels He-Man's Sword of Power, gaining the power to transform into She-Ra.

The series is being developed by showrunner Noelle Stevenson, who is the Eisner-winning co-creator of Lumberjanes. Here’s...

Netflix has given a series order to an updated version of the 1980s animated action series She-Ra, the streaming video service announced Tuesday.

Children of the ’80s will remember She-Ra as the alter ego of Princess Adora, He-Man’s twin sister, who leads a rebellion to free the planet of Etheria from tyrannical rule.

Noelle Stevenson (the Lumberjanes comic book series) will executive-produce the cartoon’s reboot, which is described as “a modern take on the ’80s girl-power icon for a new generation of young fans” that will be...

Allison Tolman, Samm Hodges, and Ned the Dog in Downward Dog (2017)
‘Downward Dog’ Review: ABC’s Very Good Canine Comedy Instantly Shakes the Network TV Format
Allison Tolman, Samm Hodges, and Ned the Dog in Downward Dog (2017)
Watching a Jack Russell terrier struggle to hop up on a bed at the end of “My Dog Skip” or seeing the look in a golden retriever’s eye after being told he’s not wanted anymore in “Air Bud” or recognizing the moment that a rabid Old Yeller isn’t the same family pet anymore — those are heart-shattering dog moments. But even though there are canines at the center of those stories, they say more about what it means to be human; to invest so much of yourself in a creature that will never speak your name.

That same spirit is the driving force behind “Downward Dog,” the latest ABC comedy that brings a surprising level of poignancy to a simple premise. Nan (Allison Tolman), newly broken up and drifting about at an unfulfilling marketing job, finds solace in the companionship of her dog, Martin. As the show documents...

‘Downward Dog’ Creator Shares His Diary on How This Unlikely Show Ever Got Made
Allison Tolman, Samm Hodges, and Ned the Dog in Downward Dog (2017)
“Downward Dog” was born nearly five years ago, and it all started when creators Michael Killen and Samm Hodges came across the Disney Channel series “Dog with a Blog.”

Killen, the owner of a Pittsburgh VFX production house, was aghast. As one of the minds behind Taco Bell’s infamous talking chihuahua, he had been hoping to do a show about talking animals for years. But this wasn’t it.

Read More: Here’s Why ABC’s Talking-Dog TV Show Belongs At the Sundance Film Festival

“I come in early one morning and my boss Michael looks distraught,” recalled Hodges, who was a commercial director at Killen’s company. “‘They took my idea,’ he says, ‘and they made a mess of it.'”

Killen then suggested that Hodges write it. Later that night, that’s exactly what Hodges did – and so began a wild ride that led from web short to ABC pilot,...

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015)
ABC’s Live ‘Little Mermaid’ Should Just Use the Cast Of ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015)
ABC announced Tuesday that it was tossing its hat in the ring of live TV musical events with “The Wonderful World Of Disney: The Little Mermaid Live!” Other details are sparse, but the enhanced broadcast of the 1989 Disney animated classic has been slotted for an October 3rd airdate.

While it’s a bit surprising that it’s taken this long for the network to take a Disney property (especially one that’s already had a Broadway run) and bring it to TV, it won’t be a full-fledged musical along the lines of the “Grease Live” or “The Sound of Music Live” productions that have popped up on other channels.

There’s also no word on casting for this ABC version of “Little Mermaid” yet. But, given the live-singalong format that they’re looking to adopt, they might veer close to the talent at the front of last year’s Hollywood Bowl production,...

‘Last Man Standing’ Wasn’t Canceled Because Tim Allen Is Conservative, So Stop Whining
Ken Jeong 05-17-2011
Conservative sites are apoplectic with rage over ABC’s cancellation of Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing.” But ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey told reporters Tuesday that politics didn’t play a role in the show’s ax.

Those sites are accusing ABC of killing the show because of Allen’s right-leaning politics. Yet lost in the furor: ABC also canceled several shows with more left-leaning themes, including “American Crime” and “The Real O’Neals.” (This year ABC also canceled “Dr. Ken” and “The Catch.”)

ABC remains fully committed to “The Middle,” its signature Tuesday comedy starring another well-known Hollywood conservative, Patricia Heaton. The network is also reviving another blue-collar comedy, its late 1980s staple “Roseanne,” for midseason.

Toni Erdmann (2016)
'Toni Erdmann' triumphs at Germany's Lolas
Toni Erdmann (2016)
Maren Ade named best director as female filmmakers flourish.

Toni Erdmann continued its triumphant run at the German Film Awards on Friday night, taking home six coveted Lola statuettes in an evening dominated by strong women filmmakers.

Maren Ade’s tragicomedy received the Golden Lola for Best Feature Film as well as double honours for Ade (pictured at left) herself as director and screenwriter, plus statuettes for her lead actors Sandra Hueller (pictured at right) and Peter Simonischek, and a Lola for the film’s editor Heike Parplies.

Handled internationally by The Match Factory, Toni Erdmann began winning the hearts of critics and audiences around the globe following its premiere in Cannes’ Official Competition last year.

It picked up five European Film Awards in Poland’s Wroclaw last December – in the same categories as the Lolas except for editing – as well as Golden Globe and Oscar nominations.

Hours before Friday night’s ceremony in Berlin, the film’s...

Zaza Urushadze
Exclusive: Tangerines director’s second feature is being presented as a work-in-progress at Warsaw Film Festival.

Berlin-based sales agent Picture Tree International has taken international rights to Monk, Zaza Urushadze’s second film as a director.

Ed Catto: Leading…by Getting Out of the Way
Back in business school I learned that there are many different styles of leadership. A good leader has several different styles at his or her fingertips and employs them based on the particular situations at hand. But this week I’d like to focus on two people who lead in a manner that’s generally not easily recognized. They lead, and in doing so contribute to their community and help build character by getting out of the way.

Brave New World Comics is a California based store run by two engaging and effervescent women named Portlyn Polston and Autumn Glading. Like most comic shop owners, they are energetic entrepreneurs who work hard to keep their customers happy, attract new shoppers and have a little fun along the way. One thing that sets them apart is their commitment to fanning the flames of geek-focusd interest in women and girls. But as you’ll see,...

Just because American Idol‘s Top 6 will cover “Arena Anthems” next Wednesday (8/7c on Fox) doesn’t mean we want a Jock Jams-type situation. (Not that there’s anything wrong with “Pump Up the Jam,” mind you.)

Thankfully, the parameters for the theme are a little broader than that — essentially “songs that can entertain a massive crowd and are performed by mega superstars.”

‘Black Science’ #7- Back in Business
Black Science #7

Written by Rick Remender

Art by Matteo Scalera and Dean White

Published by Image Comics

Ah, this is the comic book I’ve been waiting months for. Black Science has finally ended its hiatus, and it starts off with a bang and never lets up the pressure.

We’re thrown into a dimension of some kind of fish people who have plans to eat the “goblins” who have teleported into their midst. Kadir is our narrator this time, describing his childhood and the way that he was raised as he tries to save Shawn, Rebecca, Nate, and Pia. This dimension just doesn’t let up though, and even though he manages to rescue them from certain doom in some sort of coliseum, they wind up in a chase that splits the group up yet again.

First of all, and this will sound really dorky, but I’m really...

The Strain (2014)
It’s time to forget everything you know about vampires.

Although the pop culture landscape is currently littered with blood-suckers — most of them very good-looking — the vampirism found in FX’s The Strain is entirely new (and way, way creepier).

Year: 1973

Album: Half Breed

Chart Peak: N/A

When the album Half Breed came out in 1973, it represented a bit of a comeback after two previous chart disappointments, thanks to the #1 title song (which we’ll be seeing later), which makes it curious why the second and final single “Carousel Man” was only released as a promo to radio DJ’s, and therefore failed to chart on the Hot 100. It remains memorable thanks to that bizarre merry-go-round hook.

'Barbershop 3' Gearing Up With Ice Cube Returning To Star

MGM Studios have just announced that they will re-open the “Barbershop” for a third time with Cube signing on to reprise his role as Calvin Palmer in "Barbershop 3." This announcement comes ten years after “Barbershop 2: Back in Business” was released and the studio hopes Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah will also return to the franchise. Both “Barbershop” movies were solid financial hits back in the day. The first film, which came out in 2002, made over $77 million on a $12 million budget; “Back in Business” made slightly less money ($65 million), but still managed to be a make more than double its budget ($30 million). In the first half of season three, we came together as a group to fight the supernatural. Now, it's about living that with us. The super in our natural world has fully come into effect and it's going to be fun for the audience...

Once Upon A Time In Wonderland episode 6 review: Who's Alice?
Review Kylie Peters 22 Nov 2013 - 06:48

Alice gets some very welcome character development in this entertaining episode of Once Upon A Time In Wonderland...

This review contains spoilers.

1.6 Who's Alice?

It isn’t flashy—there’s little suspense, the action is mild, and there are no plot twists—but Who’s Alice? is possibly my favorite episode of Once in Wonderland so far. It feels like we’ve spent the past five weeks hanging around someone who’s fixated on impressing us, and now she’s finally letting loose and we realize she’s pretty cool after all. Though the adventure story clichés and overdone odes to the power of true love are still there, this week they are trumped by the more human drama of Alice struggling with loss and alienation.

Alice, while traveling through the Black Forest, follows a heavenly bright light (never a good idea) into a...

Once Upon A Time In Wonderland episode 5 review: Heart Of Stone
Feature Kylie Peters 17 Nov 2013 - 20:21

Mother issues, jewel thieves, and magic dust in this week's episode of Once Upon A Time In Wonderland...

This review contains spoilers.

1.5 Heart of Stone

Never fear, Wonderland fans—a little setback like turning to stone can’t keep the Knave of Hearts from his turn in the spotlight. But even more than the lovable Will, this week focuses on Emma Rigby’s Red Queen, who continues to defy expectations by taking her character to a more complex, emotional level (though her duck face is still really distracting). Unfortunately, these increasingly three-dimensional characters are pasted into a decidedly flat plot.

In flashbacks, Will/Knave and Anastasia/Red Queen are about to leap into Wonderland when they are forced to face off with—surprise!—Anastasia’s mommy issues. You didn’t think we’d get through a Once spinoff without some of those, did you?...

‘Once Upon a Time in Wonderland’ Takes a Leap of Faith
[This is a review for Once Upon a Time in Wonderland season 1, episode 5. It contains Spoilers.]

-

With Jarfar’s origin story firmly in place, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland turns its attention to Anastasia (a.k.a. The Red Queen), who was not as kind and innocent as we were led to believe. In this week’s episode, entitled ‘Heart of Stone,’ deals are made and hearts broken, in what could possibly be this series best episode.

Some have described Emma Rigby’s portrayal of the Red Queen as flat, boring, and forgettable; however, it’s worth arguing that her character is the most diverse on the show. Rigby ...

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Review: “Frank’s Back In Business” (Season 8, Episode 7)
This season of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia has continually provided fresh takes on the traditional sitcom format, while still staying true to their roots. The result has been a season that has been thoroughly enjoyable thus far, especially for long-time fans of the show.

Tonight’s episode, Frank’s Back In Business, reverted a bit to a typical episode, but it still threw in some references to the best moments of the show’s past including touching on Charlie’s bird obsession, the old Kitton Mitton and Paddy’s shotgun commercial, Mac’s second identity, and the erotic life of Dennis Reynolds.

The episode begins with Frank’s old company, Atwater, in deep trouble. They’re so desperate that they again call upon “The Warthog” to save them from going under or being sold. Frank rushes in to save the day, increasing productivity and shedding the company’s dead weight,...

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Review: The Warthog Loves Crow-tein
Following the Thanksgiving break, The Gang bounces back from "Charlie's Mom Has Cancer" with "Frank's Back in Business."

This is a logical and long overdue move for the show. We know Frank's loaded financially, but we never really saw him in action when he actually was earning his nut. But here, we get a glimpse of "The Warthog" in which he plays a Gordon Gecko-like business magnate.

Though I know I shouldn't laugh, Frank's racist comments about "Chinks" and the "Jap Broad" always strike a comical chord. And yet again, Charlie serves as the social commentary, the driving factor for spelling out what's wrong with Wall Street and the finance industry.

"What do we create? What do we build? What do we produce?"

He speaks for most middle-class average Americans who wonder what the purpose is. Their exchanges point out the absurdity of their existence, but then again those same...

Kate Gosselin Excited That Hairstylist Reopened Post-Sandy

Kate Gosselin told The Huffington Post that she didn't care about what her “haters” thought about her, which is fortunate because once again Kate finds herself in the middle of controversy, following her reaction to news that her hairdresser had regained power after Hurricane Sandy.

“Back In Business!!!!!!” tweeted Jason Backe, the partner of the reality star's hairdresser, Ted Gibson, along with a picture of his salon lit up.

“Hallelujah! So happy!” responded an enthused Kate.

Gibson, who boasts on his website that he is “perhaps most known for toiling over the tresses of top celebrities, including Anne Hathaway, Debra Messing, Angelina Jolie, Ashley Greene, Joy Bryant, Zoe Saldana, Emma Watson, Gabrielle Union and many more,” might actually be most famous for Kate's first major hair makeover in 2010, which took a reported 20 hours and would have cost $7,000 had the reality star not received it complimentary.

Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson in Twilight: Chapitre 5 - Révélation, 2e partie (2012)
Review: 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2' soundtrack
Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson in Twilight: Chapitre 5 - Révélation, 2e partie (2012)
The Twilight Saga soundtracks have always been met with consistent praise for being well-coordinated and including impressive artists. In the same tradition, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2's original motion picture soundtrack is quite a fitting end to the series indeed. The fourteen-track album contains a few numbers that harken straight back to the original tone of the Twilight Saga, like St. Vincent's "The Antidote" and Feist's "Fire in the Water" - both of which are bound to be an instant fan favorites especially given the latter's placement in the film. It also produces a few fun new sounds, such as the song by Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed, "All I've Ever Needed," Passion Pit's "Where I Come From," and Pop Etc's "Speak Up." The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 Soundtrack Revealed; Includes Series Star Nikki Reed
Since it began back in 2008, a key component of The Twilight Saga has been its soundtracks, and things are no different for Breaking Dawn - Part 2. Read on for the track listing, which includes Green Day and series star Nikki Reed.

Per MTV, iconic punk rockers Green Day will have a song on the album, along with Passion Pit, Ellie Goulding (whose track is produced by real-life love Skrillex), Nikki Reed with her real-life husband "American Idol" alum Paul McDonald, and such Twilight soundtrack veterans as St. Vincent (she contributed to the New Moon album) and Christina Perri (who previously appeared on the Breaking Dawn - Part 1 soundtrack).

Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt shared with Yahoo! Movies why the group wanted to get involved with the franchise as it bids a final farewell. "When we were asked to be part of the 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2' soundtrack, we...

A Twilight Fan Analyzes The Breaking Dawn: Part 2 Soundtrack Song List
I was excited to write up my reactions to the just released Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack listing, because I truly love the previous soundtracks from the franchise and think Music Supervisor Alex Patsavas always does a killer job cultivating tracks that suit each film’s mood. However, I know that my deep entrenchment in the Twilight fandom might make my opinion a little biased. Yes, I drink out of a giant Twilight cup and can identify every pair of Kristen Stewart‘s sneakers out of a shoe lineup, so my thoughts are certainly tainted by years of Twi-obsession. So take these silly, quick comments with a couple grains of salt, okay? They’re my unedited, unresearched, immediate reactions. Besides, we all know this soundtrack could be made up solely of songs by The Wiggles and I’d still love it.

1. Where I Come From — Passion Pit

I thought their last album was a dud,...
