Way Down In Chinatown Exclusive Casting Announcement
Nancy Wolfe (Susan Atkins/Sexy Sadie from Helter Skelter) joins the cast of Way Down In Chinatown
The Way Down in Chinatown production team – being independent filmmaker Eric Michael Kochmer, Angel Corbin, Maria Olsen and Jonathan Haloossim - are thrilled to welcome Nancy Wolfe of Helter Skelter fame to the cast. Wolfe has bagged the supporting role of Lindie in Way Down in Chinatown, the utterly creepy and surprisingly intense noir horror feature that will soon be unleashed on horror fans.
Wolfe caused major waves in horror / serial killer movie circles with her eerily terrifying portrayal of Susan Atkins “Sexy Sadie” in the 1976 made-for-television movie Helter Skelter, which tells the story of the gruesome Los Angeles murders masterminded by Charles Manson. Neither the Tate/Labianca murders nor Manson himself is ever out of public consciousness for long, nor should Wolfe’s portrayal of Atkins,...

At the just-concluded American Film Market in Santa Monica, Fango caught a screening of two over-the-top scenes from Drag Me To Hell, Sam Raimi’s eagerly awaited return to screen terror, which opens on May 29 from Universal. From what we watched, Drag Me To Hell, which stars Alison (Beowulf) Lohman, Justin (Jeepers Creepers) Long, Sage (The Manson Family) Stallone, Jessica (Cloverfield) Lucas and David (Mighty Joe Young) Paymer, features the same mix of horror and humor that Raimi mined so well in his Evil Dead trilogy.
Clip #1 takes place in a deserted parking garage. The heroine, Christine (Lohman), is trapped inside her car, while a cackling gypsy woman (Bonnie Aarons) assaults her from the back seat. Christine slams on the accelerator and sends the old hag flying over the front seat, slamming her face-first into the dashboard and knocking out the crone’s dentures (!). At this point, said crone attempts...

Filmmaker Justin Paul Ritter tipped Fango off that Little *Ucker (pictured), the stoner-goblin flick he produced for FX-artist-turned-director Michael Muscal, is set to have its world premiere this evening at 10 p.m. at La’s 1st Annual Severed Head Film Festival. The event will also showcase Ritter’s anthology chiller A Gothic Tale, which plays Friday, October 31 at 2 p.m. (see the full schedule below).
“To finally have A Gothic Tale and Little *Ucker completed and ready to show people is really exciting,” says Ritter, who previously helmed the indie shocker Katiebird*Certifiable Crazy Person. “These movies were both made to satisfy particular hardcore viewer bases, and we really hope we can create avenues for those people to learn about the movies and see for themselves.
“The pair of screenings at Severed Head is especially meaningful,” Ritter says of the fest, programmed by Dylan Reynolds and taking place at 251 South Main Street in downtown La.

Mindfire's CFQ enters film arena
Mindfire Entertainment, which owns Cinefantastique magazine -- now rebranded as CFQ Magazine -- has launched a related film division. CFQ Films will focus on feature films budgeted at less than $10 million, and its first movie, All Souls Day: Dia De Los Muertos, will wrap production this month. The movie will be released in the first half of next year and distributed in all media worldwide by IDT Entertainment Sales. Souls, starring Laura Harring (Mulholland Drive), Danny Trejo (Once Upon a Time in Mexico) and David Keith (Daredevil), is set against the backdrop of the Mexican Day of the Dead and has the dead rising to menace the living. Mindfire president Mark Altman described the film as The Ring meets Night of the Living Dead. The film is produced by Altman and Mark Gottwald and directed by Jeremy Kasten (The Attic Expeditions).
