Chadwick Boseman does not look likes James Brown. He did not look like Jackie Robinson either before playing #42 in last year’s hit about the barrier-shattering athlete, but Boseman’s magnetism and charm made up for the actor’s leanness and lack of cosmetic similarity. Now, the young actor has mastered another legendary man of the 20th century, the groovy funkster whose howl on “I Got You (I Feel Good)” is still one of the most exhilarating moments in popular music.
As James Brown in Get On Up, Boseman wears a heavy jaw of make-up on his face, which could have been more distracting had the actor not nailed the slurred speech, the electric rasp, and the dazzling dancing feet of the pop music icon. It’s an performance that is as impressive as Jamie Foxx’s show-stopping turn as Ray Charles ten years ago. (Like Foxx, though, Boseman does...

I didn't even realize that the show was still on... I remember when it was The game show to watch, when it first came on the air in the late 1990s, with Regis Philbin hosting. The dramatic pauses between questions and answers, the catchphrase, "Is that your final answer?," and more... I remember it all. I just haven't watched it in probably a decade at least. But apparently it's still going strong. Who's watching? Anyway... should be a steady pay-check for Cedric, who's replacing Meredith Vieira, as host of the game show; she took over after Regis, making Cedric the 3rd host of the series. Cedric's certainly busy. Keep in mind that TV Land picked up his TV series, The Soul Man,...

Monday’s performance finale of The Voice marked the first live show of Season 2 that didn’t feature backstage correspondent Christina Milian yammering about which contestants were trending on Twitter. Unfortunately, that might’ve been because the show’s main social-media heat probably centered around terms like “Xtina’s side cleavage,” “Adam Levine’s t-shirt,” “Xtina texting,” and “99 Problems lyrics.”
Indeed, a tense vibe percolating through the entire two-hour telecast — and Cee Lo’s “No Problems” t-shirt — seemed to suggest that there might’ve been at least some truth to reports of an ugly Xtina-Adam imbroglio earlier in the day.

In ‘celebration’ of the release of Adam Sandler’s latest comedy Jack & Jill (which is already out in the Us, alas UK readers will have to wait until February 3rd, but at least then you can take your loved ones to it on Valentine’s Day!), I thought I’d take a look at 10 other films I am baffled ever got the green light. I mean, watching the trailer for Jack & Jill one might think it was a deleted scene from the film Funny People in which Sandler mocked the kind of ridiculous high concept comedies that he is so often guilty of making. We thought after pushing them to extremes with spoof clips in that movie which included Sandler’s head magicked onto a baby’s body, it seemed like Sandler was both affectionately lampooning some of his early career decisions and also putting to rest that kind of...

Subject: Dan Aykroyd, 58-year old American actor, entrepreneur, and UFO spotter
Date of Assessment: December 17, 2010
Positive Buzzwords: "SNL" original, Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters
Negative Buzzwords: 1990-present, Ghostbusters III
The Case: An entity like Dan Aykroyd demands a different type of evaluation than most of our assessment subjects. With Aykroyd, one must acknowledge that he's enjoyed quite a long moneymaking career in Hollywood, but the vast majority of his acting credits spawn from unwatchable films. It's bloody obvious that his best days have long since passed and there is no hope for his future, so let's talk in terms of legacy, shall we?
In comparison to his founding "SNL" colleagues, Aykroyd's presence has always been overpowered by the likes of Bill Murray (who can do no wrong), John Belushi (whose early demise saved him from his brother's fate in sitcom hell), and (to a degree) Chevy Chase (who enjoyed a couple of...

Pasquin takes 'Congeniality'
Joe Somebody helmer John Pasquin has closed a deal to direct Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality 2 for Warner Bros. Pictures. Shooting is scheduled to start in the spring in Los Angeles. The project-- a Castle Rock Entertainment presentation in association with Village Roadshow Pictures -- will find Bullock reprising her role as Special Agent Gracie Hart. There is no other talent attached to the project, according to the studio. Bullock will again produce from a script by Marc Lawrence, who also penned the original Donald Petrie-directed film. Released in 2000, the first installment cleared $100 million at the boxoffice from a budget in the $45 million range. Pasquin's deal to direct Bullock likely stems from their previous relationship: Pasquin helmed several episodes of ABC's George Lopez, which is produced by Bullock's production company, Fortis Films. His other credits include Payne, Soul Man, Jungle 2 Jungle, The Santa Clause and Home Improvement.
