‘Dying for Sex’ Review: Michelle Williams Delivers Career-Best Performance in Poignant and Hilarious FX Limited Series
Image
Cancer isn’t funny. Erotic kinks are often smirked at in movies and television, almost never portrayed with humor that also respects what participants get out of them.

“Dying for Sex,” then, is a f—king miracle.

To call the FX/Hulu limited series a sitcom would be to diminish the healing positivity it lavishes on both title subjects. Yet laugh-out-loud comedic it consistently is. Poignant and adorable too. Empowering if that’s what you want from it, but not insistent in that regard.

Any tears the show will bring are eminently earned. And there’s a good chance it’ll get you hot.

Michelle Williams and Jay Duplass in “Dying for Sex.” (Sarah Shatz/FX)

Adapted from Nikki Boyer’s Wondery podcast about her best friend Molly Kochan’s final months, the show is overseen by the “New Girl” brain trust of Kim Rosenstock and Elizabeth Meriwether. The latter also created “The Dropout,...

Image
Jennifer Lopez, outfitted in a sparkling, webbed-up gown and sky-high black heels, fought back tears as “Kiss of the Spider Woman” was embraced at Sundance Film Festival with a standing ovation. She told the audience at Park City’s Eccles Theatre that starring in the musical adaptation fulfilled a lifelong dream.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life,” she said. “The reason I even wanted to be in this business is because my mom would sit me in front of the TV and [‘West Side Story’] would come on once a year. I was mesmerized and was like, ‘That’s what I want to do.’ This is the first time I actually got to do it. This man made my dream come true.”

The Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Situation: A Deep Dive Into One of the Biggest Hollywood Scandals in Years
Image
When production for the adaptation of the Colleen Hoover Novel It Ends With Us started back up in January 2024, after a long hiatus brought about by the Writer’s Guild and Screen Actors Guild strikes, what followed were rumors of contention and conflict on-set and especially in post-production. It initially seemed like mere creative differences, with star Blake Lively clashing with co-star and director Justin Baldoni over how to best embody the intentions of the wildly popular novel. It has since blossomed into a feud that has been in the celebrity news cycle for a year straight.

Baldoni, for his part, has claimed that Lively used her status to strong-arm creative aspects of the production, sneaking in dialogue written by her husband Ryan Reynolds and even commissioning a re-edit of the film. It’s unclear if a cut of the movie edited by Shane Reid, who Reynolds leveraged for Deadpool...

5 NCIS Prequels We Want After NCIS: Origins
Image
The NCIS franchise delving into prequels with NCIS: Origins warrants a follow-up with another spinoff series. Few NCIS characters are as compelling as Mark Harmon's Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Still, other NCIS characters could hold their own as the stars of the next NCIS prequel. The franchise made history by looking back at Gibbs' story, contextualizing flashbacks to his time as a Marine Corps sergeant and when he joined Mike Franks' Nis team while showing the rookie's earliest cases at Nis.

Another NCIS franchise prequel could look equally closely at another familiar Major Case Response Team (McRt) member. Honing in on a familiar chapter in time for a fan-favorite character could be a fun way to bring back an NCIS character who can't surface otherwise. A complementing prequel chapter would be a unique way to fill out the NCIS narrative, especially if the franchise leans into the established stories of...

Donnie Wahlbergs The Sixth Sense Role, Explained
Image
This article contains references and discussions to suicide and murder

Donnie Wahlberg's role in The Sixth Sense was a brief but unforgettable part of the horror movie. The singer and actor has played a handful of movie and TV characters and shared his personal life in two reality series, allowing a behind-the-scenes look at running a fast food franchise with his brothers in Wahlburgers and his relationship with Jennie McCarthy on Donnie Loves Jenny. M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense is famous for its twist in the last moments of the movie, which connects back to Wahlberg's small role as Vincent Grey.

After joining the New Kids on the Block in 1984, Wahlberg appeared in several movies throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including playing Chollo in Bullfighter and the intelligent Detective Eric Matthews in the Saw franchise. He has also taken on many long-term TV detective and police characters,...

Why Jeong Jin-su Was Recast In Hellbound Season 2
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Hellbound season 2, episode 1.

Jeong Ji-su has been recast for Hellbound season 2, which sees the returns of a lot of characters from season 1. Given that Jeong Ji-su was sentenced to Hell and died in Hellbound season 1, it may be surprising that the character is back in the new season of the Netflix original K-drama. That said, Ji-sus resurrection is part of a larger storyline in Hellbound that was teased at the end of season 1 the return of people who had been sentenced and burned alive. However, Ji-su is no longer played by Yoo Ah-in.

Hellbound had quite a large cast in season 1, particularly because the show introduced a new set of characters after the five-year time jump in episode 4. Several of those characters make a comeback in season 2, including people we saw die on the show. While the wait for Hellbound season 2 was long, the show was also...

10 Most Popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer Ships, Ranked
Image
Buffy the Vampire Slayer's romances are as big a part of it as its fantasy elements. Fans absolutely love many of the show's couples, as well as those found in the spin-off series Angel. And for characters who have multiple romantic partners throughout the franchise, every viewer has a strong opinion on who they truly belong with.

The shipping culture around Buffy the Vampire Slayer has always played a key role in the series' popularity. Not only do fans argue over which romances in the show are best and obsess over their favorites, but there are plenty of non-canon ships as popular as any canon ones. Unsurprisingly, as Buffy was one of the first television series with a major LGBTQ+ couple and thus built a massive LGBTQ+ fanbase, where most of the fan-favorite non-canon ships are queer ones.

Speak No Evil Has a Haunting Connection to This 16-Year-Old Horror Film
Image
Quick Links What Was Eden Lake About? How Did Eden Lake End? Watkins Breaks His Pattern With 2024's Speak No Evil

The following contains spoilers for Speak No Evil, now playing in theaters.

Without a shadow of a doubt, James Watkins' Speak No Evil is a very disturbing movie. Just like its Danish predecessor, it paints a violent story of toxic masculinity and a couple under duress due to a sick game that they're forced into by some strangers. In this case, James McAvoy's Paddy and his wife, Ciara, are the ones toying with an American couple in the British countryside.

They're pretending to be happily married, when truly, they're planning to murder the couple and take their child. As the trailers confirm, torture and death do ensue. Coincidentally, Watkins made a film in 2008 that had similar themes. This is none other than Eden Lake, which starred Michael Fassbender...

The One Movie Jennifer Lopez Claimed to Do for Free Was Revenge Against Men: ‘We’ve been watching men take advantage of women’
Image
Jennifer Lopez has set fire to the entertainment industry both as a singer and an actor. One of the most influential names out there, J-Lo redefined the music industry with her catchy bangers one after the other. You can’t possibly forget the hold Ain’t Your Mama had on the world in 2016, can you? Aside from her singing and dancing, Jennifer Lopez also took the film industry by storm with movies like Selena (1997), The Wedding Planner (2001), and Hustlers (2019).

With a career spanning decades, Jennifer Lopez is worth a lot, and having her in a movie is probably going to cost the producers some serious bucks. However, when it came to filming and producing Hustlers, Jennifer Lopez worked without a set salary. For her, money wasn’t anything to worry about; she simply wanted to make a film that would put women in charge.

“Jenny was a sad figure but she was not evil”: You Might Stop Calling Robin Wright’s Jenny the Villain in Tom Hanks’ Story From Forrest Gump After Learning This Narrative
Image
Tom Hanks and Robin Wright’s Forrest Gump will never not be one of the most epic depictions of love, trauma, and all the different emotions innocently wrapped up in a 142-minute-long masterpiece. Besides having people gain innumerable different perspectives of it, the brilliance with which it was made will continue to leave an indelible mark on viewers’ hearts forever.

Forrest Gump. | Credits: Paramount Pictures.

That said, there have also been quite a few theories surrounding the traumatized Gump that seem to dump the entire blame of antagonism on Wright’s Jenny Curran because of the way she treated Hank’s character in the film. However, that seems to hardly be the case, after learning the story from a different narrative, that points out everything Jenny did for Gump.

This Narrative Proves Robin Wright’s Jenny is Not the Villain of Forrest Gump

David Tennant's Companion Returns For Season 3 Of Doctor Who Audio Series
Image
Jenny, the Doctor's daughter, returns for a new Doctor Who audio adventure. The upcoming Big Finish audio story "Saving Time" continues Jenny's adventure, facing off against the Colt-5000 android. Fans can pre-order the new audio story set to be released in October.

One of David Tennant's most underrated companions is returning for another season of Doctor Who audio adventures. Throughout his run as the Tenth Doctor, Tennant's companions included Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones, and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. These companions generally followed him for at least one season, but there was one who saw only a single episode: Jenny (Georgia Tennant). As the Doctor's daughter, Jenny has been roaming the universe out of sight of her singular parent.

‘Dead Boy Detectives’ Review: Netflix’s ‘Sandman’ Spinoff Is a Fast, Fun Binge
Image
In theory, Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives should be a feast for the misery wraiths, faceless creatures who feed on pain and suffering. The ghostly protagonists, Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri), are both teenagers bullied to death at the same British boarding school seven decades apart. They spend their time finding closure for other lost souls, like a pair of high schoolers cut down in their prime or a family slaughtered by an abusive patriarch. And they’re constantly on the run from the agents of Death, who would condemn Edwin to Hell on a technicality.

Yet the duo only ever encounter one such monster over the eight-episode first season, and perhaps that’s because despite its gloomy-sounding premise, Dead Boy Detectives is the furthest thing from dour. Dark, sure; bittersweet, sometimes. But it’s never less than entertaining, thanks to an appealingly quirky lead cast and a cheeky sense of humor.

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From A Time For Killing
Image
"A Time For Killing" (also called "The Long Ride Home") isn't one of the best Westerns of all time, nor is it the most memorable, but the 1967 film still comes up in conversation thanks to its unique status as the very first movie role Harrison Ford was ever credited in. Ford played a young, sideburn-wearing Union soldier in the film, which followed the exploits of a group of captured Confederate soldiers on a mad dash for Mexico — none of whom realize the war has officially ended.

Aside from Ford's debut as Lieutenant Shaffer (for which he was credited as Harrison J. Ford), "A Time For Killing" is most noteworthy for its status as an abandoned Roger Corman flick. Corman started making "A Time For Killing" after already churning out cult classics like "A Bucket of Blood" and "The Little Shop of Horrors," but the low-budget filmmaker was replaced by "99 River Street...

Suzanne Somers Remembered by Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg: ‘She Shattered Stereotypes’
Image
It’s hard to overstate the late 1970s stardom of Suzanne Somers, who died on Oct. 15 in Palm Springs at 76. “Three’s Company” made Somers one of the most popular faces on TV, thanks to Chrissy Snow, the naive and charming character she played on the ABC sitcom. Somers fought for equal pay decades before it became a rallying cry for female actors — and she wound up getting fired for it. But Somers bounced back with TV series like “She’s the Sheriff” and “Step by Step,” and became a ubiquitous author and TV pitch woman. Perhaps even more importantly, she inspired a new generation of stars — including Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg. Here, the ‘Masked Singer’ panelist, SiriusXM host and performer pays tribute to her mentor and longtime friend.

We all aspire to leave behind a positive impact, and Suzanne Somers achieved that and much more. In Hollywood, she shattered stereotypes, proving that ditsy...

Jennifer Lopez Reveals Her Kids’ Struggle With Their Famous Parents’ Publicity
Image
Jennifer Lopez is being candid about the life her two children are experiencing.

“The Mother” actress shared during a recent interview that her and ex-husband Marc Anthony’s 15-year-old twins are seeing the effects of their parents’ celebrity.

“I think being the child of famous parents is not something many people can understand and I feel for [my kids] for that because they didn’t choose that,” the 53-year-old said during a roundtable talk with Audacy.

The “All My Love” songstress said that her children have recently begun sharing how they are perceived by others.

“They have just started letting me know how people treat them — so when they walk into the room, that’s what people are thinking about,” she said. “They’re not seeing them for who they are. And I think that has to be a really hard thing for them. So, I would love to be able to protect them from that.

But the success of The Quiet Girl, the acclaimed Irish-language drama from writer-director Colm Bairéad that had become something of a dark awards season horse over the last couple of months, wasn’t the only reason for cheer from the Emerald Isle, which is celebrating its greatest ever haul of Academy Award nominations.

As expected, Martin McDonagh’s Irish period tragicomedy The Banshees of Inisherin led the charge. The film’s nine nominations — an Irish record that beats the seven each earned by last year’s Belfast and 1993’s In the Name of the Father — included its domination of the performance categories thanks to best supporting actor nods for both Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan, best supporting actress for Kerry Condon and, as had been widely presumed, a best actor nomination for Colin Farrell.

Sundance 2017 Review: Xx Confidently Showcases the Horrific Talents of its Filmmakers
Horror anthologies can be a tough feat to pull off, especially when you’re trying to pull together different filmmakers’ visions into one cohesive experience. That being said, Xx, which recently celebrated its world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, succeeds in delivering four wildly distinct stories from several female directors, featuring the talents of Jovanka Vuckovic, Karyn Kusama, Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent), and Roxanne Benjamin. Beyond just its historical significance, Xx stands out as one of the more successful anthologies we’ve seen as of late, regardless of the gender of its directors.

Xx starts off with Vuckovic’s contribution, The Box, which is based on a story of the same name by acclaimed author Jack Ketchum. In the segment, we follow Susan (Natalie Brown), a mother who watches helplessly as an unknown force literally consumes her family after her son, Danny (Peter DaCunha), takes a peek inside...
