Sci-fi comedies of the 90s spoof genre eccentricities with timeless classics like Mars Attacks and Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. Eddie Murphy shines in The Nutty Professor, showcasing his comedic instincts with fast-talking banter and brilliant slapstick. Men in Black stands out with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones' dynamic as top-secret agents facing inventive creature designs and great physical humor.

The 1990s produced plenty of classic sci-fi comedies, including some beloved returning franchises and some fresh new ideas. Many of the best sci-fi comedies of all time happen to be from the 1990s, including Galaxy Quest, Men in Black and Space Jam. Some of the best comedy actors and directors of the era turned their attention toward sci-fi in the 1990s, creating some timeless classics.

Sci-fi comedy often spoofs the genre's eccentricities, just like Mars Attacks and Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. However, not all sci-fi comedy is inherently satirical in nature.

TV trivia fanatics will happily point out that the first-season theme song to Sherwood Schwartz's seminal sitcom "Gilligan's Island" is different from the theme heard in later seasons. The song is the same -- it's the usual, earworm sea shanty that everyone can sing from memory -- but the final listing of the show's dramatis personae is different. In the later seasons, the theme song listed Gilligan (Bob Denver), the Skipper too (Alan Hale), the Millionaire (Jim Backus) and his wife (Natalie Shafer), the movie star (Tina Louise), the professor (Russell Watson) and Mary Ann (Dawn Wells), there on Gilligan's isle.

In the first season, however, the professor and Mary-Ann were introduced merely as "And the rest." Watson and Wells didn't have credits and photos like everyone else. This was a little baffling, as all seven characters were of equal value to the series; no one was a supporting player.

Often forgotten and rarely represented, the Universal Monsters are a terrifying cast of creatures, creeps, and outcasts dating back over a century. While characters like Dracula, The Bride of Frankenstein, and The Mummy tend to get top billing, many horror creations unfortunately seem underappreciated as Universal seeks to reimagine its classic catalog of horror films. A tribute to or parody of the murder mystery movies of Hollywood from throughout the 1930s and 1940s — sometimes referred to as “old dark house” projects — Dark and Stormy Night (2009) premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival at the turn of the 2000s.

Written and directed by Larry Blamire, who also appears in the film as Ray Vestinhaus, this is arguably the funniest film he’s ever made. Granted, you’ve likely never seen any of his movies, as they’ve all been made on shoestring budgets with frankly absurd premises and even more ridiculous styles of execution. They don’t exactly appeal to the widest of audiences, in other words.

When Jim Mallon's "Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie" was released in theaters back in 1996, many noted that it had a shorter running time than a single episode of the show on which it was based. "MST3K" ran for two hours, or 92 minutes with the commercials removed. The movie, in contrast, was an incredibly brief 77 minutes. This was in spite of an arch premise that needed to be explained to the audience, and multiple "host" sequences.

As it so happens, the original cut was much longer.

Since 2009, the guys from MST3K have given us many theatrical get-togethers featuring so many bad movies as RiffTrax.

In 1996, Universal Pictures released Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. While it’s gone on to find love in the aftermath, the whole situation was handled badly in many ways and it ended up being a box office dud. The idea was solid, though. If MST3K worked so well on TV and gathered such a fanbase, it would probably be an extra great experience to enjoy its style in a movie theater surrounded by other laughing fans.

Ten years later, long after MST3K seemed gone for good, Mike Nelson created his own take on bad movie riffing called RiffTrax. It gained steam thanks to the help of his old running buddies Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, as well as celebrity guests like Neil Patrick Harris and Joel McHale.

For all you movie monster fans out there, Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell hits both Blu-ray and DVD, and Universal has assembled Tremors: The Complete Collection on DVD as well. Cult film fans are going to want to pick up the new HD releases of Blood Hook and Terror, and for those of you who missed it in theaters earlier this year, Winchester comes home to haunt your shelves this Tuesday.

The Us series poking fun at bad movies from the comfort of a satellite several miles above the Earth ran for eleven years from 1988-1999, and creator Joel Hodgson has been raising funds to resume the experiment via Kickstarter. The new episodes will star The Nerdist’s Jonah Ray as the hapless human, with the internet’s Felicia Day down to play the evil scientist torturing Jonah with cheesy B-movies, with Patton Oswalt performing henchman duties.

His heroine, ten year old Chihiro is a typically modern girl, upset about moving into a new home and afraid of new changes in her life. But after her parents take a detour into a strange tunnel she finds herself trapped and worst of all, her parents have been turned into pigs.

Why We're In: One of the most unique stories of the summer (we've had enough superhero & action flicks for a while), "Now You See Me" was a refreshing find. The film also had a great cast, including the very underrated Mark Ruffalo, Jessie Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Melanie Laurent. "Now You See Me" was one of Moviefone's Best Movies of 2013 (So Far).
