“A Legend” is another entry in the seemingly unlimited Jackie Chan universe, and despite its visual opulence, it is ultimately a bitter disappointment. The film joins the ranks of the many, many expensive but insignificant works that the action master has delivered in recent years. Released nationwide on July 10, it was massively rejected by Chinese audiences: With production costs of a good 50 million dollars, “A Legend” brought in a meager 11 million dollars and was not received well by critics either.

48 Hrs. Lethal Weapon. Hot Fuzz. The best buddy cop comedies adhere to a simple formula. One guy is straight-laced, by the book, and really good at his job. The other is a loose cannon, a wild card who pushes the boundaries and gets most of the attention.
Rush Hour is no exception, pairing serious Hong Kong inspector Lee with a motormouth LAPD detective named Carter. Chris Tucker fits the bill for the latter role, coming off of big performances in Friday and The Fifth Element. But for the serious partner, they cast Jackie Chan, perhaps the greatest physical comedian since Buster Keaton. And they completely wasted him.

The story goes thus: it was 1985, and Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan, having enjoyed nearly two decades of cinematic success in his native country, wanted to extend his reach into the United States. Chan had already tried to infiltrate America in 1980 with Robert Clouse's film "The Big Brawl," but while it was highly respected by martial arts fans, "Brawl" wasn't the massive hit Chan wanted. Chan had already directed four movies by 1985 but still felt that an American director could translate his fightin' sensibilities for a North American audience more accurately. So, he hired genre filmmaker James Glickenhaus to helm the 1985 actioner "The Protector."
Chan and Glickenhaus butted heads throughout production, as Glickenhaus refused to film fight sequences in a way Chan approved of. At the end of production, Chan merely re-edited the film himself and directed new scenes in the hope of salvaging the project.

Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2, episodes 1 & 2.
James Ackerson becomes the new director of the Spartan program and clashes with Master Chief, creating friction within Silver Team. Ackerson, a character from the Halo books, has a ruthless and ambitious nature and is locked in a rivalry with Dr. Halsey. Joseph Morgan plays Ackerson in Halo season 2 and brings a compelling presence to the show, standing in the Chief's way and plotting something sinister.
While plenty of familiar faces return for Halo season 2, including Pablo Schreiber's often-unmasked Master Chief, the Paramount+ show's sophomore outing adds an important new character to the roster: James Ackerson (Joseph Morgan). At the end of Halo season 1, it's revealed that Natascha McElhone's Dr. Halsey has a sinister purpose for Cortana. Instead of forming one half of a team, the A.I. assistant is meant to overwhelm the Chief's mind and take control of his body.

Spider-Man's struggle to maintain a social life goes beyond his superhero career, and has become a core part of Peter Parker's character, something should be addressed by Marvel. Miles Morales recently accused Peter Parker of ghosting him, and called out the older hero for not being there when he needed him. Marvel should eliminate Peter Parker's perennial flaw of being a bad friend, in order to make him a stronger and healthier character who has overcome this adversity and become better off for it.
Warning: Spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man Gang War: First Strike #1!
Introduced sixty-one years ago, Spider-Man has always struggled to maintain a social life – but after all that time, it seems as though the issue extends beyond Peter Parker's superhero career, and has become a core part of his character, one that Marvel should consider putting a rest to, in order to let the enduring character move forward.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts!A Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie is coming, as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts sets up the Hasbro movie event. The last two decades have seen Paramount leverage Hasbro's most iconic toy lines into potential movie franchises, with Transformers and G.I. Joe movies routinely part of the studio's slate. These efforts began in the late 2000s as Michael Bay's Transformers was released in 2007 and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra hit theaters in 2009. Both franchises have since been rebooted to very different results, as Snake Eyes tanked the franchise restart and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts continues Bumblebee's timeline.
The popularity of Transformers and G.I. Joe toys has at times translated to massive success for Paramount, to the point where a cinematic universe was considered several years ago. However, the studio has never brought the two franchises together...

Every kid of a certain age grew up wanting to be Jackie Chan. A legend in Hong Kong and most of the world from the late-seventies on, Jackie Chan also, at long last, became a superstar in North America after the release of his 1996 classic Rumble in the Bronx. Supercop, First Strike and more dubbed versions of his Hong Kong movies would follow, but it was 1998’s Rush Hour, which paired him with Chris Tucker, that made him a phenomenon in the United States. It was as if, at long last, the United States was let in on a secret the rest of the world already knew.

"Halo" is a story about a super soldier known as Master Chief (aka John-117) who fights aliens in space over ancient technology. You might think from the description that it's a story you've seen many times before. Certainly, "Halo" wears its influences on its sleeve. But don't underestimate the world of the games, which has thus far been the subject of over 30 novels, several comics, and one season of a live-action television show. Bungie cut their teeth directing the "Marathon" trilogy of narratively ambitious first-person shooters. "Halo" was targeted at a wider audience, but its developers still took the time to flesh out the game's setting. Rather than the heavy metal mishmash of "Doom" and its ilk, this would be a world of alien religious sects, military jargon, and Gregorian chanting.

Jackie Chan and longtime collaborator Stanley Tong strike out miserably in their seventh film together. Vanguard is a bumbling CGI spectacle with a ludicrous plot, terrible acting, and strained nationalistic themes. The fight scenes are decently choreographed, but lost in the barrage of cartoonish gun violence. The film elicits minor chuckles with fleeting moments of slapstick humor. The laughs are the sole bright spot. Vanguard is a big disappointment from two of China's storied filmmakers.
Vanguard starts on a festive note during the Chinese New Year celebration in London. A wealthy businessman, Qin Guoli (Jackson Lou), and his trophy wife are kidnapped in broad daylight by vicious mercenaries. Little do they know that Qin is being tracked by Vanguard, an international security firm for elite clients. Vanguard's CEO, Tang Huanting (Jackie Chan), activates nearby agents Lei Zhenyu (Yang Yang), Zhang Kaixuan (Ai Lun), and Mi Ya (Miya Muqi). They rescue Qin,...

"The enemy has moved in." Gravitas has released a new US trailer for the crazy cool action film Vanguard, starring Jackie Chan - who is still making action films despite announcing he would retire. Marvel and Netflix have created something truly special with their four superhero shows: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. They've established a unique, ongoing, and shared universe that not only respects each character's source material, but also builds upon and expands their lore. Fans have clearly responded, as many media outlets report that these are some of the most-popular shows on Netflix.
