Was Tabu once engaged to Sajid Nadiawala? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
I am sure you already know who Tabu is if you are a Bollywood movie buff! If not, you are in for a treat because she is a national award-winning actress with incredible movies on her resume. She is one of the most talented actresses in the film industry and is known for her powerful performances both in commercial and independent movies. She has received two national film awards and a Padmashree for contributing to Indian cinema.
If you love Bollywood movies, then you definitely must have seen “Cheeni Kum,” “Drishyam,” and “Andhadhun,” all of which featured stellar performances by the award-winning actress. Three-fourth of his 88-year-long life was spent in acting and of these, six and a half decades, over half, had Dev Anand playing the lead (romantic) role, even as his peers and even several of his leading ladies had moved on or out. In the process, Dev Anand ended up being paired against at least three generations of heroines, if not four, as he transitioned from his early days where his female co-lead was the bigger star to a time when most actresses were keen on working with him as he sauntered from success to success with that charming demeanour and the winning smile.
While most of his early heroines, say, Kamla Kotnis, who was cast against him in his debut “Hum Ek Hai” (1946), Kamini Kaushal, the heroine of his first hit “Ziddi” (1948), Khursheed Bano or Nimmi or Shakila will only be familiar to hardcore film buffs or movie historians,...

Korean filmmakers have produced some of today’s most cutting-edge movies by borrowing the best elements from Hollywood, Chinese, and Japanese cinema, and mixing them their own unique cultural vision. So when it comes to the action genre, K-films are all over the map. K-actioners range from irreverent comedies to gritty brutal ultraviolence. Story arcs move from funny to savage in the blink of an eye.
Always well-crafted, Korean action films are filled with clever plot twists, refreshing characters that are fully fleshed out, and superb cinematography, However, Korean cinema tends to defy being as easily pigeonholed into genre boxes as Western contemporaries.
For example, Park Chan-wook’s disturbing Cannes winner, Oldboy, is more of psychological thriller than an action film, and yet the brilliant one-er hallway hammer fight is consistently referenced as one of the top examples of fight choreography from that year. Snowpiercer, which spawned a TNT series,...

This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.
“The Jedi” is an action-packed episode of The Mandalorian that takes many of its cues from classic samurai and Western movies, two of the genres that heavily inspired George Lucas’ vision for the first Star Wars. Here, we see as two brave warriors take down a cruel warlord hidden within the walls of an oppressed city, all while covered in the thick fog that’s undoubtedly meant to evoke the look of an Akira Kurosawa film.
At the center of the episode’s story is Ahsoka Tano, a former Jedi who needs information from the magistrate of the city of Calodan. Located on a ravished planet called Corvus, the city is surrounded by dead forest in every direction, and a green fog that could very well be poisonous from the way the magistrate’s soldiers wear gas masks and full Hazmat-like suits.

There are some films that you see and you instantly know what you want to say about it, how you want to say it and exactly what you think. Then there are the types of films that make you think. You need to go away and understand what you saw and then write. The Viceroy’s House is one of those films.
A story about the transfer of power from Britain to India and the partition is something I think every South Asian with an Indian or Pakistani heritage is familiar with. It is a sensitive subject that has been presented many a times in the Indian film industry and is used even now as a main topic or an underlying backstory. The stories we are familiar with, are generally told from the South Asian perspective. Gurinder Chadha has turned the story around, and told it from the British point of view.

If I were asked about the one sound in the world I love, hands down the answer would be the whirring of a film projector. In this day and age, when digital is king, I still remember the joys of watching films at my uncle’s house, the whirr of the projector, the dancing of dust in the light in front of the lens and – joy – the ability to send the thing into reverse, which gave us countless hours of silly pleasure. I still remember the excitement of learning how to use the projector myself, a skill that I’m sure has grown rusty as I’ve enjoyed a world of media streamed right to my computer.

The Randeep Hooda starrer ‘Sarbjit’, is based on a real life story and also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Richa Chaddha. The film has been directed by Omung Kumar who’s last successful film was ‘Mary Kom’. The music of ‘Sarbjit’, has been composed by a mixture of composers (surprise, surprise!) namely Amaal Malik, Jeet Ganguli and also features a host of new composers such as Shail-Pritesh, Tanishk Bagchi and Shashi-Shivamm.
The film features a very sensitive storyline which also has a lot of pain surrounding it, and this has been well reflected in all of the songs in the album. Despite the album having wide range of composers, all of the songs do carry the same ‘sound’.

2014 was a fantastic year for music in Indian Cinema. We saw a definite shift from formularistic numbers to more nuanced tunes in step with the respective screenplays they would be featured alongside. Music directors were bold and brave, breaching familiarity and conventions to taking risks and we could not be more mesmerised by the results. Hamlet was adapted to a gritty and raw musical by Vishal Bhardwaj. Ankit Tiwari and Mithoon basically defied gravity by re-creating the magic of Aashiqui 2 with Ek Villian. Read on as Bollyspice closely chronicles 2014’s top 10 music directors.
10. Jeet Gangulay
Jeet Gangulay’s Citylights was the silent hit of 2014 with Arjit Singh’s Mukurane becoming a crowd favourite from the get-go followed closely by Mohd. Irfan’s unplugged version of the song. While Youngistan did not do well at the box office, Gangulay’s ‘Sangemarmar’ definitely left a mark. Similarly, ‘Sun Le Zara’ from Singham was equally effective.

It's now confirmed! Sajid Nadiadwala, producer of several successful films such as Judwaa, Jeet, Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, Heyy Babyy, Housefull, and Housefull 2 will be making his directorial debut with Salman Khan starrer Kick. The film was supposed to be initially directed by Shirish Kunder but since the last few days, there have been murmurs that Shirish is no longer part of the project. Shirish Kunder, whose film Joker released yesterday to a tepid response, tweeted, "Sajid Nadiadwala will be directing Kick. He had originally envisioned the project and I feel he is the best person to bring it to life. I'll continue with my efforts to make original films and bring novel stories in a mainstream format. Remakes for now do not interest me. It is easy for me to do what everyone else is doing or what is working. But I'll always choose to attempt something new with every film.

The Raaz franchise re-emerges with its third film, Raaz 3 this year. Great music has been synonymous with the last two movies and with names like Emraan Hashmi and Mahesh Bhatt associated with it, expectations are certainly running high. Raaz featured music by Nadeem-Shravan while Raaz – The Mystery Continues featured music by Raju Singh and Toshi-Sharib, the second being very contemporary and the first relatively traditional. Both, immensely popular.

Pran Kishan Sikand
Pran Kishan Sikand dreamt of becoming a professional photographer. Little did he know that a measly, humble ‘paan’ (betel leaf) would change his life and set him on his destined path. It was 1939 or thereabouts. Pran was at a ‘paan’ shop at Lahore, enjoying a munch with his friends when a stranger approached him and asked whether he wanted to act in films. Pran was amused and asked his name. Stranger introduced himself as Muhammad Walli, a renowned film maker in the flourishing film district of Lahore. He said he was making a Punjabi film and Pran looked a perfect fit for the role of a villain in the film. Pran just brushed him off. Walli kept insisting that he pay a visit to the studio, and pushed a piece of paper with his address into Pran’s hands. The film was Yamla Jat (1940), a runaway hit that year.

Both the sisters are superstars in their own right. While Karisma was the darling of the masses (Raja Hindustani, Jeet and Jaanwar), and had a sizable fan following with the classes (more so after Dil Toh Pagal Hai), Kareena's appeal is predominantly amongst the multiplex thronging elite audience, and she is still...
