Heath Ledger’s One 10 Things I Hate About You Scene Proves Tom Cruise’s Cult Classic Moment Was Overhyped
Image
Heath Ledger’s one iconic scene in 10 Things I Hate About You proved to be better than Tom Cruise’s scene from Jerry Maguire. Tom Cruise’s love-confessing scene in Jerry Maguire became the go-to moment for couples on how to profess love. Despite the film gaining a cult-classic status, we think that the confession scene in the Cruise starrer was a bit… overhyped.

Being iconic, we believe that Heath Ledger’s love-confession scene in 10 Things I Hate About You was much better than Cruise’s scene in Jerry Maguire. Of course, people have their different opinions, you cannot compete with a microphone holding Heath Ledger, especially when “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” plays in the background.

Image
Exclusive: Oscar-winner actor Cuba Gooding Jr. is set to take the lead in The Madness of Judge Jeremiah Doherty, an intense neo-Western thriller written and directed by Nika Agiashvili.

Billed as being in the vein Man on Fire, No Country for Old Men, and Sicario, upcoming production The Madness of Judge Jeremiah Doherty centers on a hardened Texas judge (Gooding Jr.) who survives a brutal cartel assassination attempt only to discover his wife has been kidnapped and is presumed dead.

Abandoning the law, he forges an uneasy alliance with the cartel assassin sent to kill him. Together, they wage a relentless, bullet-riddled campaign of vengeance across the U.S.–Mexico borderlands, battling mercenaries, dirty cops, and outlaw bikers in a desperate quest to find his wife, dead or alive.

Studios Expected Clint Eastwood's Last Western To Be A Box Office Flop
Image
Clint Eastwood's 2021 Western "Cry Macho" is set in the year 1979 and centers on Mike (Eastwood), an elderly ex-rodeo star who is hired by his boss Howard (Dwight Yoakam) to travel to Mexico and retrieve Howard's 15-year-old son Rafo (Eduardo Minett) from his wicked ex-wife (Fernanda Urrejola). Because Mike is so old, however, he can travel without being interrupted. When he finds Rafo, though, he quickly discovers the boy is at risk. Indeed, Rafo is already heading down a dangerous path, even participating in a cockfighting ring. Thus, Mike convinces Rafo to come back to the United States with his prize rooster, Macho, in tow.

Like many of Eastwood's films, "Cry Macho" is gentle, calming, and reassuring, with Mike serving as a grandfather figure to Rafo. The movie barely played in theaters as many venues were still closed because of Covid-19, and it was simultaneously released on HBO Max, all with little fanfare.

Matt Damon Lost A Lot Of Weight For A Two-Day Shoot With Denzel Washington
Image
There are certain movie stars who have "It" the second they walk in front of a camera. It might not happen for them immediately, but all casting directors and filmmakers had to do was watch a minute or two of Cary Grant, Marlene Dietrich, Carole Lombard, or Paul Newman to know that they'd be topping marquees and posters for decades to come. For Gen X-ers, the same could be said of Denzel Washington, Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, and Halle Berry. For Millennials and Zoomers, you've got Michael B. Jordan, Florence Pugh, Glen Powell, and Sydney Sweeney.

Some future movie stars don't pop like this. They need seasoning and, most importantly, the right role to demonstrate that they're capable of carrying a movie. I don't think anyone envisioned Gene Hackman as a leading man until they saw him whoop it up as Buck Barrow in "Bonnie and Clyde," nor was Renée Zellweger...

Tom Hanks Passed On A Role That Catapulted Tom Cruise Into Iconic Stardom — You’ll Never Guess Which One
Image
The Role Tom Hanks Rejected That Helped Tom Cruise Become A Legend(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Tom Hanks had the script in hand before anyone saw Tom Cruise sliding across the floor of Jerry Maguire’s meltdown. You see, at that point the idea of Hanks playing a weary sports agent trying to find his soul did not sound all that strange. He had already carried the weight of emotional stories as he played men finding meaning in unlikely places and proved he could anchor a film with both warmth and wit.

However, this time, his plate was full and was neck-deep directing That Thing You Do!, due to which he politely let the role go.

Tom Hanks Was the Original Choice for Jerry Maguire

According to Far Out Magazine, Cameron Crowe had written the character with Hanks in mind. The early idea leaned toward someone gentle and someone who would unravel more softly.

Tom Cruise Stands Alone in Top 10 Highest-Grossing Actors Without a Marvel Role
Image
Tom Cruise hasn’t played a superhero, but he’s still one of the biggest box office stars in movie history.

While actors like Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., and Samuel L. Jackson have spent years inside the Marvel universe, Cruise has taken a totally different path, and it’s worked just as well. As of this weekend, Cruise is still one of the top 10 highest-grossing actors of all time. According to new box office numbers following the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth, the list is packed with names from Marvel films, except for him.

Everyone else in the top ten has been in at least one Marvel project. Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, Vin Diesel, and others all boosted their numbers with movies like Avengers: Endgame, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more. Scarlett Johansson just reached the number one spot, passing Downey Jr. and Jackson with a career total of over $14.9 billion,...

Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible Isn’t Over Yet In a recent trends piece from Today.com- of all things, about the curious way Tom Cruise eats popcorn- it was noted that the latest ‘Mission: Impossible’ installment, 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning', is “the eighth and final movie in the franchise.” Tom Cruise- the face and spearhead of the film franchise- has never said he’s done. In fact, at the premiere of 'Dead Reckoning - Part 1', while commenting on Harrison Ford’s return as Indiana Jones in 2023’s 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny', he told The Sydney Morning Herald, “I hope to keep making 'Mission: Impossible' films until I’m [Harrison Ford’s] age.” At the time, Ford was eighty-one. Since then, Cruise has only doubled down. At the New York City premiere of 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning',...

The Jerry Maguire Scene Where Renée Zellweger Was Scared to Death to Work With Tom Cruise
Image
In Tom Cruise’s star-studded resume, there are numerous explosive action, sci-fi, and thriller blockbusters and very few rom-coms. But despite being in the minority, his one flick with Renée Zellweger was such an epic masterpiece and fared so well that very few of his other projects have managed to live up to it: Jerry Maguire.

A name that pretty much every movie buff is very well aware of, Cruise’s said rom-com from 1996 didn’t take long to become a cult classic, thanks to the spectacular performance from the cast and crew. But, surprisingly, despite her own outstanding portrayal, Zellweger was actually ‘scared to death’ to work with Cruise in one scene!

Tom Cruise movies: 17 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
With a film career that spans over four decades, Tom Cruise is arguably the biggest movie star of this generation. Cruise is associated with so many iconic film moments -- the dance in "Risky Business," the "need for speed" chant in "Top Gun," and "Show me the money!" in "Jerry Maguire," among many others -- that it seems like he's been a movie star forever.

He has been a critical darling through parts of his career but has mainly focused on blockbusters (acclaimed or not). He has received two Oscar nominations for Best Actor in "Born on the Fourth of July" (1989) and "Jerry Maguire" (1996) plus another as Best Supporting Actor in "Magnolia" (1999). Those are the three performances that provided him with Golden Globe wins. His other four nominations with the Hollywood Foreign Press were for "Risky Business" (1983), "A Few Good Men" (1992), "The Last Samurai" (2003) and "Tropic Thunder" (2008). Many of these...

Tom Cruise’s Iconic 1996 Film Unknowingly Inspired Dakota Johnson’s Materialists
Image
Romantic comedies often draw from the classics, but who would have thought that Dakota Johnson’s latest movie, Materialists, would take some elements from Tom Cruise’s Jerry Maguire? The 1996 sports dramedy is wildly different from the movie it inspired, but both explore the tension between transactional success and emotional authenticity.

They prove that whether you are negotiating endorsements or bringing two people together, the heart of the story is always a human connection. So, here’s how Jerry Maguire and two other mega-starrers unknowingly shaped Materialists.

How Materialists took inspiration from Tom Cruise’s Jerry Maguire Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire | Credits: Vinyl Films

A24 recently publicized their references for Materialists on X (formerly Twitter), and revealed that Jerry Maguire shaped the professional aspect of its character, which could be Dakota Johnson’s Lucy, who shares a few similarities with Tom Cruise’s Jerry because they are both high-stakes intermediaries.

Tom Cruise to Be Celebrated at MoMI with ‘Above and Beyond’ Retrospective Festival

Patron saint of theaters Tom Cruise will be at the center of a well-deserved retrospective at the Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI). IndieWire can announce that starting June 20, 22 of Cruise’s most iconic films will screen at the museum. Cruise’s entire captivating career speaks to his legacy as a singular movie star, and all the contradictions— of mystery and emotional transparency, of relatability and untouchability, of strength and vulnerability— that entails.”

Hayley Atwell’s Favorite Ever Tom Cruise Movie Is a Streaming Hit This Month
Image
Tom Cruise has such a long and illustrious catalog of beloved movies, from the likes of Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut to Risky Business, that it can often be difficult to pick a favorite. Never one to back down from a challenge, Cruise's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning co-star Hayley Atwell has had her say, moving away from the blockbuster action franchise and, instead, naming the 1996 romantic sports drama, Jerry Maguire, as her favorite.

A five-time Academy Award nominee and featuring one of Cruise's most memorable performances, Jerry Maguire is an inspired choice from Atwell, and it seems the current population of streaming fans agrees. As of May 28, and amid the Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning hype, Jerry Maguire has landed in the Top 10 most-streamed movies on Pluto TV in the US. Jerry Maguire joins an eye-catching list of other titles in the top 10, which includes three Mission: Impossible movies,...

Vanilla Sky Ending Explained
Image
The 1990s was a time of optimism and opportunity, but Gen-Xers also had a lot on their minds. This was reflected in the cinema of the decade as we pondered our love lives, our approach to work, and the way we partied. Things got extra angsty around the turn of the century with concerns about the future and our relationship with technology that seemed like science fiction a decade or so earlier. Two movies bookending the end of the 20th century, in particular, brought all this together: "The Matrix" and "Vanilla Sky." While they look vastly different on the surface, both films asked the same question: Would you rather stay tucked inside a blissfully ignorant dream world or wake up and face real life head-on?

"Vanilla Sky" was Cameron Crowe's next film after "Almost Famous," and it feels very much a '90s movie despite its release date in...

The Worst Mission: Impossible Movie Was A Crucial Box Office Hit For Tom Cruise
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"I was so scared I was sweating. I couldn't even watch the monitor when we shot it." Those are the words of renowned action director John Woo reflecting on working with Tom Cruise in 2000's "Mission: Impossible 2." Specifically, Cruise's death-defying rock climbing stunt. It speaks volumes about the far-reaching nature of this franchise after all these years, and Cruise's star power, that this scene is so easy to recall despite being in what is broadly considered to be a bad movie.

While certain corners of the internet have offered a reappraisal of this movie in recent years, it's by far the worst-reviewed "Mission: Impossible" movie to date, ranking as the only "Rotten" entry in the series on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet,...

You Won’t Recognize Tom Cruise in His Debut Movie in Hollywood From 1981, Endless Love
Image
Tom Cruise is one actor whose fame transcends generations and boundaries, known all over the world thanks to his high-flying stunts and Mission: Impossible blockbusters. But before he was known as the God of Action and entertaining audiences with his versatile performances, he was just another aspiring actor looking for his big break.

While his big break came later on in films like Risky Business and Top Gun, he made his acting debut in a small role in a 1981 romantic drama called Endless Love. Looking back at it now, most won’t even recognize the star today in his feature film debut.

I Never Knew Chris Evans Is Such a Geek About RomComs Until I Watch Him Beat Pedro Pascal in This Game
Image
Chris Evans may have done the absolute best job at embodying Captain America throughout his tenure in the MCU, but he never let that role tie him down to one genre. If anything, what makes him rank among my favorites, besides his charms and absolute heartthrob of a personality, is the excellent versatility he has displayed as an actor.

Be it starring in a superhero role, romcom, action role, or comedy-drama, Evans has, in my eyes, never once ceased to give an indisputably outstanding performance. That’s something to say, for even I had no idea that the hotshot was actually a geek about romantic comedies until I recently saw him beat Pedro Pascal in this game!

What Happened To The Cast Of Fast Times At Ridgemont High?
Image
Over 40 years after its release, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" remains one of the funniest stoner comedies ever made. Helmed by first-time director Amy Heckering (over a decade before she would direct "Clueless") from a screenplay by then-newcomer Cameron Crowe (before his work on "Almost Famous" and "Jerry Maguire"), the 1982 film followed a group of slacker kids as they navigate the socially volatile waters of sophomore year at Ridgemont High School.

"Fast Times" famously boasts an ensemble cast that includes several actors who would go on to become massive stars, some in tiny roles you may not remember. We took a look back at the "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" cast to see where their careers took them after they graduated from sneaky hooks up and joints to Academy Award-winning roles in major feature films.

Here's what happened to the "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" cast.

Tom Cruise on Black Panther Actor: I’m Not the Last Movie Star Because ‘Talented Actors’ Like Him Exist
Image
Movie star culture has been on a decline since the 2000s, as major A-listers no longer guarantee a movie’s success in the current IP-driven landscape, in which franchises and pre-established IPs remain the biggest draw. Tom Cruise has been one exception to this trend, as he’s arguably one of the few stars who can still sell a movie with his name alone.

However, Cruise himself recently refused to acknowledge the title of being the last remaining movie star, vouching for stars like Michael B. Jordan to carry the torch moving forward.

Michael B. Jordan is Tom Cruise’s pick for the next potential movie star

Back in the ’70s, ’80s, and even the ’90s, a major movie star’s inclusion allowed a filmmaker to realize ideas that wouldn’t have been greenlit otherwise. From Meryl Streep’s Kramer vs. Kramer to Cruise’s Jerry Maguire, audiences showed up to watch them,...

Tom Cruise at an event for Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Given how famous Tom Cruise has become for performing his stunts in a never-ending series of action films, one could be forgiven if they forget that before he became an action hero, he was better known as a romantic leading man. Indeed, Cruise was the heartthrob of all heartthrobs in the eighties and nineties, known for headlining some of the best dramas of the era, including Rain Man, Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men, The Firm, and Jerry Maguire. While yes, he’d had two massive action-driven hits with Top Gun and Mission: Impossible, Cruise didn’t really engage in classic action movie heroics in them. The hand-to-hand action was limited, gunplay was non-existent, and the stunts were modest considering what would come.

That all changed in the wake of Mission: Impossible 2. Once Cruise teamed up with legendary action director John Woo, he seemed to...

‘Jerry Maguire’ and ‘Stuart Little’ Child Star Jonathan Lipnicki Says ‘I’m Not Where I Want to Be Career-Wise’ as an Adult: ‘I Want to Turn This Ship Around’
Image
Jonathan Lipnicki said in a recent interview with People magazine that he is trying to turn his acting career around after it more or less sputtered following his iconic run as a child actor in the late 1990s and early 2000s. With roles in “Jerry Maguire” (1996), the “Stuart Little” movies (1999-2002), “The Little Vampire” (2000) and “Like Mike” (2002), Lipnicki was one of Hollywood’s most recognizable young performers. He cut back on acting to attend high school and says that he’s since struggled to match the professional highs of his youth.

“I had some really good things that happened when I was younger. It’s totally fine to say I’m not where I want to be career-wise,” Lipnicki said, adding that he’s “all right” with that for now. “Everything we’re doing in this life is nearly impossible.”

“This is the thing I want to do for the rest of my life,...

This 1 Scene Has Me Convinced That Kenneth Branagh Was Not Lying About Tom Cruise and His Acting
Image
When I say the name Tom Cruise, the first thing that probably pops into your head might be his high-speed motorcycle chase, a jaw-dropping scene from Mission: Impossible, or his smirk in Top Gun. For decades, he’s been the face of blockbuster entertainment and a global superstar who commands the screen.

But I feel like his million-dollar smile and daredevil stunts often make people overlook how great of an actor he is. So when Kenneth Branagh, one of the finest artists, praised Cruise, I had to revisit one scene that convinced me of his acting talent.

Kenneth Branagh on Tom Cruise’s acting Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire | Vinyl Films

Kenneth Branagh recently dropped a truth bomb about Tom Cruise that I can’t ignore. He acted alongside Cruise in Valkyrie, so we can take his word for it. Moreover, the British Film Institute has awarded him with a BFI Fellowship,...

Tom Cruise at an event for Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Why don’t enough people think Tom Cruise is a brilliant actor?
Tom Cruise at an event for Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Picture Tom Cruise and chances are he’s hanging from a plane or a skyscraper, maybe jumping out of a helicopter or speeding down narrow roadways on a motorcycle. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, we might at the same time be neglecting just how incredible of an actor Tom Cruise is.

Kenneth Branagh – who worked alongside Tom Cruise in 2008’s Valkyrie – isn’t about the star going down as only an action movie hero, which, while that’s a reputation a lot of guys would dream of, is so far from what Cruise is. “If he ever tires of wowing the world with action, he’s going to surprise those who view him as only a movie star. What he’s done with Mission and Top Gun is unique — cinematic entertainment with a serious intent to give you a wonderful time at the movies. But he’s...

Tom Cruise is Responsible For Damon Wayans Losing an Oscar Winning Role in a 1996 Classic
Image
Damon Wayans started his career as a stand-up comedian before starring in several shows. In the 1990s, Wayans transitioned to films, establishing himself with hits such as Bulletproof, The Last Boy Scout, and Major Payne.

Despite his impressive resume, Wayans has never come close to winning an Academy Award. However, the actor-comedian might have had a shot at the prestigious award had he landed a part in a Tom Cruise movie of the 1990s.

During a recent podcast appearance, Wayans reflected on losing out on the supporting role in Cruise’s sports comedy-drama Jerry Maguire. The role eventually went to Cuba Gooding Jr., who won an Oscar for his performance. Here is what Wayans had to say about missing out on the Oscar-winning role.

Tom Cruise Holds a Moment of Silence for ‘Dear Friend’ Val Kilmer
Image
Tom Cruise honored the late Val Kilmer with a moment of silence on the CinemaCon stage in Las Vegas, asking the crowd of exhibitors and press to take a moment to remember all the great film moments Kilmer gave audiences in his career and the “wonderful times we had with him.”

“I’d like to take a moment to honor a dear friend of mine, Val Kilmer,” Cruise said. “I really can’t tell you how much I admire his work, how much I thought of him as a human being and how grateful and honored I was when he joined ‘Top Gun’ and came back for ‘Top Gun: Maverick.'”

Kilmer died on Tuesday at age 65, dying of pneumonia after having previously struggled with throat cancer that made it incredibly difficult to speak. He had recovered enough to appear in 2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Demi Moore joins Tom Cruise, Eddie Murphy, and these other 1980s ‘popcorn stars’ denied at the Oscars
Image
Is there a kernel of truth to the notion that "popcorn stars" don't win Oscars? It certainly felt that way to fans hoping to see Demi Moore pull off a Best Actress victory at the 2025 Oscars. Her daring performance as Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance had earned her a Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and SAG Award, putting her in frontrunner position as she arrived at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2. But suddenly, those hopes were dashed when Emma Stone read out the winner: Mikey Madison in Anora.

It wasn't unfamiliar to see one of the biggest box-office draws from decades past lose the big one. Perhaps the Academy couldn't see past what Moore had once been told she was — a popcorn actress. She addressed the demeaning title in her Golden Globes acceptance speech nearly two months prior, stating that a producer called her a “popcorn actress” 30 years ago, which...

A career studded with leading men who read like a Hollywood power list: Richard Gere, Hugh Grant, Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Colin Firth. Seriously, that’s a resume. It’s enough to make any actor green with envy. From sharing stolen glances with Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire to going toe-to-toe with Richard Gere in Chicago, Zellweger has proven she can hold her own against the best. And let’s not forget her iconic turn as Bridget Jones, where she charmed audiences worldwide and cemented her status as a rom-com queen. We’ve been lucky enough to chat with Zellweger many times over the years, and we once asked her about sharing the screen with so many A-listers. Her response? Pure, unadulterated awe. It’s time to catch up with Bridget Jones once again and, as always, life is pretty different for her.

In “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” now streaming on Peacock, we find Bridget (Renée Zellweger) a mother of two and, sadly, a widow. Her husband died four years ago on a humanitarian mission in the Sudan.

But, in true Bridget Jones fashion, she’s got two new men in her life. And you’ll probably recognize both of them.

Here are the key players in “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.”

Here's How The Oscars Decide Who Gets Played Off During Speeches
Image
As the Academy Awards gear up for their 97th ceremony, many long-time Oscar-watchers are wondering how this year's Conan O'Brien-hosted broadcast will differ from those of the last decade. The Academy has certainly been through a lot since 2015. There was the flubbed Best Picture call in 2017, the three-year hostless experiment, and the full-scale debacle of 2022. The last two Jimmy Kimmel-hosted ceremonies actually weren't bad (ratings even crept up for last year's broadcast), but, as ever, there's a hope that this year's go-round can be a little more entertaining, a little less self-satisfied, and hopefully, much shorter than usual.

ABC has been battling the length issue for ages, and, really, they should look at 2024's 3-hour-and-23-minute show as a victory. I've been watching the Oscars since the early 1980s, and, length-wise, I don't think you can produce a tighter ceremony than this. I have a feeling they'll run...

Even Henry Cavill Would Disagree With Egregious Claim That He Has “Overshadowed Tom Cruise” Since James Bond Rejection as Tape Leaks
Image
It has been 12 years since Henry Cavill first debuted as the Man of Steel but the fans loyal to Zack Snyder and his grimdark vision of the DC universe have still been unable to move past the actor’s version of Superman. Those faithful to Cavill, in the meanwhile, have taken his entire career into account and not only rendered him the best Superman but also one of the best actors working in Hollywood right now.

The recently leaked audition tape of the actor as James Bond has further fanned the flames of mass discord as fans cannot reconcile with the fact that Cavill was twice rejected from the role that he seems to be tailor-made for. The lost 007 role combined with his ill-fated arc as Superman and the much-beloved Witcher has thrown the fans into a spiral of confusion and blame.

What Happened To The Cast Of The Bernie Mac Show?
Image
For five seasons, "The Bernie Mac Show" provided a hilarious and often heartwarming portrayal of fatherhood. The sitcom followed a fictionalized version of Mac, who still works as a stand-up comedian, but is thrust into fatherhood when he has to assume the parental duties over his two nieces and nephew. The premise is loosely based on real life, as Mac actually did have to look over his sister's kid for a little bit. But in reality, Mac was a proud father to one daughter.

"The Bernie Mac Show" has an almost timeless quality to it, whether it's the humor or the lessons learned. It was unlike any other sitcom at the time, or even today really, which makes sense when considering creator Larry Wilmore drew inspiration from French New Wave films like "The 400 Blows" when crafting the style. The show also featured Mac breaking the fourth wall to address the audience,...

"I Hope I Don't Kill Top Gun": Tom Cruise & Jamie Foxx Were Falling Asleep While Filming 2004 Oscar-Winning Thriller Because Of One Car Blunder
Image
Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx are both major names in Hollywood, with the former being one of the biggest movie stars of all time. Cruise is widely known for his work in the Mission: Impossible franchise and the two Top Gun movies, as well as for films like Jerry Maguire (1996) and Risky Business (1983). He can next be seen in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning this spring, his potentially last time playing the superspy Ethan Hunt. The actor has become a worldwide sensation, having grossed over $10 billion as a leading man at the box office throughout his career.

Foxx, on the other hand, is known not just for being a movie star, but also for being a comedian and an R&b singer. Ray (2004) marked one of Foxx's first major leading big screen roles, and he ended up winning the Best Actor Oscar for his performance as musician Ray Charles.

Hollywood’s favorite power couple, John Travolta and Kelly Preston, always seemed to have an unbreakable bond. And yes, she apparently kept it a secret until it unfolded right in front of him during a screening!

That’s awkward. I had no idea.” Ouch.

The Only Tom Cruise Movie On IMDb's Top 250 List
Image
At this point, it really is a wonder if there's anything Tom Cruise can't do. After falling, jumping, and flying through the air in a fashion that makes mere mortals tremble, one thing he can check off the bucket list is making his way onto IMDb's Top 250. With a filmography consisting of some iconic level entries that have defined eras and raised the bar in their respective genres, it only made sense that his work would be shown some love alongside some of the greatest films ever made. What's surprising is just which film made the cut.

Even before his magnificent run of "Mission: Impossible" movies (which all displayed his actual magnificent run), Cruise had appeared in films like "A Few Good Men," "Jerry Maguire," "Collateral," and "Risky Business." But none of them could compare to the time he got back in the cockpit as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in "Top Gun: Maverick.

30 Years Ago, Tom Cruise Made His Directorial Debut with 'Fallen Angels'
Image
While some question the power of celebrities to guarantee box office success, there is one actor whose name value seldom wavers in getting people into the theaters. Tom Cruise has become one of the world's most recognized and revered actors, with an impressive filmography of fan favorites throughout the decades, including Risky Business (1983), Top Gun (1986), Mission Impossible (1996), Jerry Maguire (1996), Minority Report (2002), and the list goes on and on up to the modern era with massive blockbuster his like Top Gun: Maverick (2022) and fan favorites like Edge of Tomorrow (2014).

His success as an actor has remained prevalent for decades, despite controversies involving his association with the Church of Scientology and some oddball interviews (who can forget Cruise jumping on Oprah Winfrey's couch in 2005?). Still, Cruise remains best known as an actor who is very much in charge of his career trajectory. That is what makes his first and last directed work such an oddity.
