Feeling Minnesota's title was inspired by some lyrics in the Soundgarden song 'Outshined': "I just looked in the mirror/And things ain't looking so good/I'm looking California/And feeling Minnesota". The band's lead singer and the song's composer, Chris Cornell, revealed to Blender magazine in 2005 that his lawyer told him that they could sue the filmmakers, but Cornell didn't want to be part of that, he was embarrassed about his song inspiring the film's title.
Towards the end of the movie when Keanu is catching a ride to Vegas, they pass a billboard that says "Cool Breeze". Keanu's name in Hawaiian means "cool breeze over the mountains"
Freddie (Cameron Diaz) tells Jjaks a story about meeting Ann-Margret in Las Vegas when she was a child, showing Jjaks a necklace Ann-Margret had given her. Three years later, in L'Enfer du dimanche (1999), Ann-Margret played Christina Pagniacci's (Diaz's) mother.
Cameron Diaz and Delroy Lindo would work together again in Une vie moins ordinaire (1997) the very next year.
