February’s home media releases are an exceptional bunch, led by Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep adaptation, which is headed to a variety of formats, including 4K Ultra HD. In terms of other recent genre titles making their way to Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday, horror fans will undoubtedly want to add Rabid (2019), Daniel Isn’t Real, The House That Jack Built, and Mon Mon Mon Monsters! to their collections as well.
We also have a few older titles that are making their way to Blu this week, including Frank Henenlotter’s Brain Damage and Evil Ed, and if you somehow don’t already own them, both the original Halloween and Halloween (2018) are being released on Blu as a double feature from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
Other notable home media titles arriving on February 4th include The Nightingale, Perfect, Ouija Room, Restricted Access, and 10/31 Part II.

I know I say this every single year, but it really is hard for me to believe that we’re now less than two months away from Flashback Weekend 2018. Chicago’s longest-running convention returns to the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel Friday, August 3rd through Sunday, August 5th, and Fbw founders Mike and Mia Kerz have put together a frighteningly fun lineup that Midwest horror fans are not going to want to miss. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased Here.
For Flashback 2018, both Brad Dourif and Tom Holland are headlining this year’s convention as the co-Guests of Honor, and there will be Child’s Play and Fright Night reunions and screenings happening that weekend. You're so cool, Corpse Clubbers! Over thirty years ago, Tom Holland brought undead scares into the suburbs with his directorial debut, Fright Night, introducing viewers to a lovable cast of characters that includes Peter Vincent, Evil Ed, and the suave vampire next door, Jerry Dandrige. The film's effects, performances, and clever writing have made it a fixture of the horror genre over the past three decades, making it the perfect bloodsucking subject for the Corpse Club to sink their teeth into on the latest "Horrigins" episode of Daily Dead's podcast.
In a special "Horrigins" installment of Corpse Club, co-hosts Patrick Bromley and Heather Wixson discuss Tom Holland's directorial debut, Fright Night (1985), including their first experiences watching the "vampire next door" movie, the film's endearing blend of horror and humor, the intriguing cast of characters, the movie's most humanizing moments, and they also talk about the 1988 sequel and the 2011 remake.

What do you get when you mix a bunch of Swedish horror film fans with little film experience and no money but a great deal of gumption? Why, Evil Ed, of course!
Evil Ed is both a tale of horror as well as a tale of stick-to-it-ness that all aspiring filmmakers should hear, and both are equally entertaining. Some Swedish kids who grew up on American horror films courtesy of the first video boom and who shared a common goal of making a film that could play in theaters started experimenting with the tools of the trade. Their first feature was never actually completed before they ran out of steam, but the nucleus of that group, Anders Jacobsen, Goran Lundstrom, and “Doc,” moved right into what would become Evil Ed. They took the nucleus of a story, about a docile, henpecked film editor forced to cut...

Press Release: May sees the release of a fantastic slate of cult cinema from Arrow Video, with a healthy mix of giallo, cult crime and gore to keep fans happy.

[Hello, readers! To celebrate Valentine's Day, the Daily Dead team thought it would be fun to do things a little differently this year. We're putting the spotlight on our favorite horror-loving characters from genre cinema—people who have represented our own fandom on screen and, in many cases, helped bring our passion for horror into the mainstream. Be sure to check here for more of our tributes to some of the greatest horror fans to ever grace the big screen.]
As a kid, while I loved every possible monster out there, I was a total vampire nerd through and through. I’m not sure what it was that completely drew me in—perhaps it was their power, their bloodlust, their uninhibited nature, or even their immortality—but vampires were where it was at, as far as I was concerned during my childhood. Which brings me to my picks for my favorite horror fans in cinema: Mark Petrie from Tobe Hooper’s miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s ’Salem’s Lot, and Charley Brewster from the original Fright Night. To be honest, it was hard for me to choose between the characters, simply because they both meant so much to me growing up, so I felt like I needed to give each of them their due here.

We’re back to dissect another remake and this time we’re taking a bite out of a vampire movie. The original version was a classic but the remake does not quite measure up. This week, Cinelinx looks at Fright Night (2011).
When the remake of the classic vampire film Fright Night (1985) came out in 2011, the initial reaction was very positive because it was such a relief to have truly evil vampires back. After the brooding and sparking vampires of Twilight started a trend of angst-ridden or lovelorn or depressed vampires, fans were thrilled that the blood-sucking antagonist of director Craig Gillespie's new Fright Night remake and his fellow vamps were hard-core predators with no reservations about chowing down on their next-door neighbor. The Fright Night creatures-of-the-night were more Dracula than Edward. It was good to have the badness back. However, upon reflection, the 2011 version doesn’t hold up that well.

A company called Kreepy Kustomz creates handcrafted horror film-inspired lunchboxes. They have a great assortment of lunchpails and considering the time that goes in to creating them, the prices are really reasonable. These lunchboxes start at $40.00 and go up from there. While the starting price does not include a thermos, buyers can add one on for an additional charge. This Etsy shop also has some amazing minimalist horror poster art for sale. What’s more, the store’s proprietor is also available to do custom work.

Horror news used to slow down in December, but not anymore. With plenty of horror movies being released in January and it being Friday the 13th, we have more news than ever. Here’s a look at the brand new Fright Night t-shirt from Cavity Colors:
“Vampires just aren’t what they used to be. Now they’re covered in glitter and battle CGI werewolves with big muscles. But in the 1980′s, a certain vampire movie stood out from all the others, and that movie is Fright Night. And what might be one of the best vampire kid characters, “Evil Ed” goes from being a somewhat friendly wild child with a dark sense of humor, to a bloodthirsty vamp beast controlled by the dark lord himself.”
This design is limited to only 100 shirts and will never be reprinted. There is also the option to get the design as a shirt/poster combo.

Ahead of the home entertainment release of Fright Night 2: New Blood, HeyUGuys had the opportunity to speak with the immortal Gerri Dandridge a.k.a. Jaime Murray. During the course of our conversation she confessed to her habitual tendency to remove the horror from horror films, showed a refusal to define herself as either a Freudian or a Jungian, described a yucky feeling, and spoke about the challenges of unearthing a little gallows humour thanks to realism. Yes, we are still talking about the aforementioned vampire film…

Case in point, I’m not sure really what do call this latest incarnation in the “Fright Night” series. Is it a sequel to a remake or is it a remake of a sequel? It’s supposed to be perceived by the general horror watching public, as a sequel to the Colin Farrell “Fright Night” remake, but anyone who is familiar with the first two films could compare it to the 1988 sequel to the original. Both have lead lady vampires after a lead male vampire in the first films. See how confusing it can get.

Jaime Murray Talks Fright Night 2: New Blood, available now on Blu-ray and DVD
The sequel Fright Night 2: New Blood is making its debut on Blu-ray and DVD today, October 1, just in time for Halloween. Fans of 2009's Fright Night remake might be disappointed to see that none of the original cast is back, making this essentially the fourth version of this horror tale about a deadly vampire, the neighbor who knows his secret, and the TV horror host who knows how to end his reign of terror. The good news is that Fright Night 2: New Blood is a very entertaining and worthy entry in this long-standing franchise, and that it stands almost on par with the 1985 original.
Jerry Dandridge the Vampire gets a sex change for this quasi-reboot, a hopeful home video franchise restarter, with the very beautiful and equally awesome Jaime Murray stepping in to play Gerri.

The “Fright Night” franchise is not dead yet. Not at all.
The somewhat sequel “Fright Night 2: New Blood” is released today on DVD and Blu-ray. In this movie, actress Jamie Murray plays the vampire seductress Gerri who preys over Charley.
This sequel is kind of a remake of the original movie re-introducing the main fan favorite characters of Charley Brewster, Peter Vincent, Ed Bates and Amy Peterson. And the primary adversary is a female vampire instead of suspicious vampire neighbor Jerry.
The horror comedy film introduces a new cast to star alongside Murray with Will Payne, Sean Power, Sacha Parkinson and Chris Waller.
Here’s the synopsis: By day Gerri Dandridge is a sexy professor, but by night she transforms into a real-life vampire with an unquenchable thirst for human blood. So when a group of high school students travel abroad to study in Romania, they find themselves...

Stephen Geoffreys, equally famous for playing Evil Ed in the original Fright Night and later appearing in a slew of gay porn flicks, stars in Do Not Disturb cheaply-produced and, at times, brutal horror flick about a Hollywood screenwriter holed up in a cheap hotel while working on a horror/revenge flick. Somewhat down on his luck, Don (Geoffreys) is on-edge, drinking heavily and alienating friends and professional acquaintances.
Obsessed with building the perfect "killer" script, Don ventures deep down the rabbit hole, taking his writing entirely too literally, turning his talent for the written word into a talent for brutality and murder. Somewhat meta in its approach, Do Not Disturb is a fairly interesting character study, mostly buoyed by Geoffreys' solid performance. Though he's far from the hysterical, creepy and intense little kid in Fright Night, he's still a solid performer.

The trailer for Fright Night 2: New Blood has officially been released by Fox Home Entertainment (after being bootlegged not long ago). Eduardo Rodriguez directed the remake/sequel arriving on DVD and Blu-ray October 1st.
When high school student Charlie attends a study abroad program with his horror obsessed friend “Evil” Ed and ex-girlfriend Amy in Romania, he soon discovers their young attractive professor Gerri (Jaime Murray) is a real life vampire. Too bad no one believes him. In fact, Evil Ed finds it amusing and it only feeds his vampire obsession. When Gerri turns Ed, Charlie seeks out Peter Vincent, the infamous vampire hunter (well, he plays one on TV) who is in Romania filming his show “Fright Night,” to teach him how to take down Gerri before she gets to Amy, who’s blood will cure Gerri of spending eternity as a vampire.

It's a little known fact that the original 1985 Fright Night had a sequel simply called Fright Night Part II, starring original cast members William Ragsdale as Charlie and Roddy McDowall as the great vampire hunter Peter Vincent. It may also become a little known fact that there is a sequel to 2011's Fright Night, which gets the title Fright Night 2: New Blood and a direct-to-video release date of October 1. Both sequels have a similar storyline. Vampire Gerry Dandgridge's sister is out for revenge. Only this sequel gets a whole new cast, with Will Payne the third person to star as Charlie Brewster. Sacha Parkinson is our third Amy, and Chris Waller is Evil Ed, though we're pretty sure he's died in every single movie to date. Peter Vincent is back, too, this time played by Sean Power. But, instead of sister Regine Dandridge, we get Gerry's other sister...

Although it doesn't appear to be a follow-up to either the 1985 original Fright Night or the 2011 remake, the first trailer has arrived for the "sequel" Fright Night 2: New Blood. Will Payne stars as Charlie, who is studying in abroad in Romania with his friend "Evil" Ed (Chris Waller) and ex-girlfriend Amy (Sacha Parkinson). When Charlie realizes that his attractive professor Gerri (Jaime Murray) is a vampire, he turns to TV vampire hunter Peter Vincent (Sean Power) to take down Gerri before it's too late. In addition, we also have the poster for this horror sequel/second remake, which debuts on Blu-ray and DVD on October 1 from Fox Home Entertainment.

Fright Night 2 Jaime Murray Interview - A sequel to 2011′s Fright Night already wrapped up filming and will be released later this year. Titled Fright Night 2, the movie has been a little under the radar, but that’s about to change soon.
This movie is more of a reboot than a sequel, mixing up the story by taking the main characters from the original movie to Romania, where they encounter Gerri, a female vampire played by Jaime Murray. During Comic-Con, I had a chance to talk one-on-one with Jaime Murray, who told me about playing a vampire and her time on the set in Romania:
Horror fans love the original Fright Night and the remake has been embraced by many fans as well. Had you see the original films prior to joining Fright Night 2? What made you want to be a part of this series?
Jaime Murray: I’m super excited.

Today's MPAA ratings bulletin is a little busier than some of those we've seen recently and even includes an R-rating for Alexander Payne's Nebraska which Paramount will be appealing. If I remember correctly there are a couple uses of the word "f**k" but nothing else. If I had a guess the R-rating for some language will soon be changed to a PG-13 rating for some strong language. We wait patiently... I posted a trailer only an hour or so ago for the Vince Vaughn dramedy Delivery Man and now it has a PG-13 rating, Ryan Coogler's excellent Fruitvale Station starring Michael B. Jordan received a not-so-surprising R-rating and the Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke thriller Getaway received a PG-13. Stuart Beattie's graphic novel adaptation I, Frankenstein starring Aaron Eckhart will be rated PG-13 when it arrives January 2014 and August opener The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones...

There’s a moment in co-writer and director Conor McMahon’s horror/comedy “Stitches” where one of the film’s more obnoxious characters meet his maker at the hands of the titular clown. The death is immediately followed by a stylish slow-motion shot of the victim’s head falling into a fountain. It was at this point in the feature that I knew I was in love. “Stitches” is a lot different than other so-called horror/comedies currently crying for your attention. For starters, McMahon’s effort is actually funny. It resonated with me in much the same way director Anders Jacobsson’s deliriously underrated 1995 effort Evil Ed did all those years ago. I immediately wanted to watch it again, a statement I don’t make on a regular basis. The film tells the story of a guy named Tom who accidentally murdered a clown at his birthday party when he was a kid.

I know we as a people need to be conscience of living green and recycling, but I don’t think Hollywood needs to hold itself to that standard. Alas, that doesn’t keep them from recycling more than a darn waste plant. Consider the case of Fright Night.
Fright Night first hit theaters in 1985, written and directed by Tom Holland. Many view it as a classic. Then, it was remade in 2011, starring Anton Yelchin and Colin Farrell. It was actually pretty good, but nobody saw it. That hasn’t stopped them from announcing a sequel, albeit one that is direct to DVD/Blu-Ray. Yuck.
Now, we know what the sequel is about, and it sounds like a complete rehash of the original story (and its remake), except that it takes place in Romania. It’s going to have characters that died in the first film, and another vampire named Jerry,...
